Fun the first time

Great playability the first time through, but it gets monotonous and boring after that. You can't really become much of a sith in this game, for that try Kotor 2, but even then its lacking.

= Awesome game!

I'm not too big of a Star Wars fan. I have seen the movies and that is the extent of my knowledge. I'm not too big of an RPG fan either. I have played Morrowind and liked it, but stopped because of the constant long walking and bugs.

This game is for anyone. I loved it. I'll just list pro's and con's for you, since I'm not much of a reviewer.

PROS:

Good graphics, nothing spectacular but good nonetheless.
Awesome in game cinematics that look almost like the movies!
Good controls, easy to learn and easy to use.
Long amount of play-time, with 60+ hours.
Over 4 different endings.
The ability to become a sith or a jedi, depending on your actions throughout the game.
When talking to people you have nearly 4 different answers for everything, from "I don't like your face, I think I'll remove it" to "Ok, I'll help you out". The former takes you to the dark side, while the latter takes you to the light.
Controling up to 3 characters at once, and being able to choose the 2(besides you, yourself) that come with you(out of 9 characters)
Talking to characters is just awesome. The lip-synching of EVERY character is just amazing.
Battle system is wierd, but works really good when controlling 3 people.
No shortage of lightsabers. And the reason behind their color! Plus you can add different crystals to the blade to custamize!
Over 40 force powers, including some favorites like "choke", and "lightning".
Side missions galore. Which probably takes the game to 100+ hours.
Swoop racing and gun turrets are always fun too!

CONS:

Out of 30+ hours of gameplay, I have gotten 2 glitches in the game. Nothing bad though, just paused for about 15 seconds.

Your other characters are constantly talking to you, it can get annoying, but it isn't too bad.

Not being able to do side-missions after you have completed the game...

Thats it.

Things that could be improved in a new game:

A little more open ended, not totally like Morrowind, but a little more.
A little less story line, and a little more side-missions.
A multi-player online edition(basically StarWars Galaxies for XBOX)

And thats really it, the game is, dare I say it? Perfect? Not quite, but they have done a good job of getting to a point that makes you think it could be. There is talk of a sequel, which (if they don't mess up the storyline) could be bigger and better with the new technologies. Go rent the game if your still sceptacule, thats what I did. But my rental ran out and now I need to buy it.

This game goes beyond the movies

As soon as I got the game I played it for about 5 hours. I couldn't believe how great this game was. I waited for over a year for this game to come out and it was worth it. The controls are simple to learn. The graphics are just as impressive. Its great that you get to cusomtize character and the rest of your party. I thought the coolest thing about the game is you can upgrade your weapons. The fact that you can choose between the light or the dark side of the force is great also. It can make for a short game if you chose the dark side. Or a long game if you choose the way of the jedi. There are a lot of force powers to choose from and that makes it more fun. This is one of the best games ever!!

Xbox needed this game, and now it's a blockbuster!

Just to show you how popular this game is--Blockbuster, only a five minute walk from my house, had about 6 copies available on Fridat mrning at 11am. By 11:29am, all the copies were gone!

You can use the character you create at the beginning and either be the good Jedi, or an absolute, no holds barred, I'm going to wipe the streets with your face bad guy or girl. I understand once you go completely to the Dark Side, you can use the imfamosu Force Choke, Darth Maul's double bladed lightsaber (with the red crystals no less), even a Sith robe. If you want to be Darth Vader, then by all means you can do that. Just one thing however--the the gameplay will take over 80 HOURS (!) I have gone through 12 hours so far, going through the first starship encounter, the Planets Taris, Dantoonie, and Now Tatoonie. 3 Dark Jedi jumped my group--myself and te 2 female Jedi. Not a smart move after my side had just leveled up on Dantoonie LOL.

I was not a RPG fan, but with this game I will make an exception. The controls are easy to use, the storyline you help create by your actions is excellent, and it's alot of fun!

Simply the best - Even if your not a big Star Wars fan

I'm not really into RPG type games and Star Wars is old news. I got excited about it when it first came out. This game is so awesome. The only bad thing about it is that it is completly addicting, I can't put it down. Everyone else I know playing it has the same experience. Go ahead and buy the greatest game yet, sorry Halo and Morrowind fans but this games simply the best. May the force be with you.

Oh yes... God, yes....

This is a boon in a summer of some otherwise disappointing games. The game itself can be a little glitchy (on a refurbished xbox, anyway), but this is only a problem because you can't stand not to be playing this game. Elaborate foray into the star wars universe (hell, it's a better plot and exposition than the schmarmy prequels), as well as immersive real-time combat based on the Star Wars pen and paper RPG game system. A whole new level of what console RPG's can achieve. You must obtain this software...

Outstanding

Bioware has made an outstanding product with KOTOR. I bought the game almost as soon as it came out and I couldn't put it down for anything. I played it 14 HRS STRAIGHT!! It's just that good. Graphics, sound, and gameplay are all topnotch. I feel like it's more a movie than a game. GOOD JOB BIOWARE.

One of the Best Games Ever Made for Xbox

If you are a fan of action RPG's or a fan of Star Wars, this game is not one you can pass up. The game offers over 20 hours of genuin playing time. Most new games these days are lucky to have 10. On the start-up screen you are given a choice of a combination of various characteristics for your hero. You get to pick a name, the gender, the type of character--scout, soldier, or scoundrel each with their own personalized skills. In addition to those, you get to determine what features your character has such as a power attack or specialization with a melee or ranged weapon.

The best feature of the game is being able to choose between being a dark or light side character. Every action changes how your hero answers in conversations and how the appear as well how others feel about them. The story is definitely worthy of the Star Wars universe and rivals some of the best books I've read. I won't give away too much, but I will say somewhere in the game you get to use a lightsaber. Almost all the weapons are upgradeable. Higher quality armor is also upgradeable. The presentation of the fight options is well layed out and easy to use. Leveling up is rather simple too. Graphics are pretty good for a couple of years ago.

The gameplay is excellent and will make you a prisoner of your couch. Game value is near perfection if you don't already own the game since the current price for the game is only seven dollars. Replay value I would say is high to very high. It is difficult not to desire to play again with a totally different character.

Lastly I would have improved a few things about the game. One problem is the terrible autosave which occurs in what seems like every other load screen. Another is the graphics, they leave something to be desired becuase of the fact it is on the Xbox. The last thing I would have done is probably added 10-15 hours to the game. Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic is an amazing game which I think would bring even non-rpg game players to the genre. I rate it a 9 out of 10.

ONE OF THE BEST STAR WARS GAMES!!!!!!!

If you have every seen one of the star wars movies and found it even remotely interesting, BUY THIS GAME!!! Aside from being one of the best star wars games, it is also one of the best RPG's I've played. There is so much to do, you can literally spend hours just exploring the worlds without even playing the main story. Also, this game is a change of pace from the movies, as it is set 4000 years before "A New Hope". In addition, this game has lots of cool weapons from the movies, books and comics. If all of this wasn't reason enough to buy KOTOR, you can choose to be light or dark side. This is the first star wars game to do it correctly. Lastly, this game has one of the best plots I have ever seen in a video game. Take my word for it, buy KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC

An Excellent RPG

It may not tickle everyone's fancy, but Knights of the Old Republic will definitely not disappoint a RPG fan. The story is fantastic, the voice work and sound effects are spectacular. Character advancement and customization is another high point, as it should be with any RPG. Graphics are the lowest point to the game but I would still give them a 4/5. On the other hand, special effects [especially the lightsabers] are a feast for the eyes.
The gameplay may not please everyone and it does take some getting used to, but for those of us who like to micro-manage it is highly entertaining and adds yet another dimension to the game. The mini-games and side plot add great depth to the game and with so many things to do it gives the game immense replay value. The Light or Dark side choice also adds replay value to the game allowing you to play as you wish, beit good or evil.
Overall the game is excellent, sure the graphics may not be brain-meltingly amazing, but most games aren't. The story and re-playableness of the game more than make up for it's one sore spot.
