This game made my son try and force choke me when I told him to get ready for bed. He also takes the broom stick and hits me with it like it is a lightsaber now. I have about a dozen welts on me from that broomstick. He has even learned all of the alien languages on the game. I have told him too many times that it is fake. This boy is 15 years old and I am considering sewing the developers of the game for brainwashing my son with this nonsence. He is also now calling me "Meat Bag" because some robot on there calls the humans that on the game. He has been doing this for two months now and it is very annoying. His friend is also behaving the same way. The other day I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up and he told me that he wanted to be a dark jedi so he can take over the galaxy.I think that you should not let your kid have this game because it has made kids weird.

Along with Brute Force, this is one of the most overrated games to come out on the Xbox yet. Fortunately, I only rented it. I hate to think that people actually spent $50 on this waste.

Now for the reasons. Unlike what people have been saying, there really isn't much freedom or depth in this game. Sure, you can make choices that will turn you toward the Dark or Light Sides, but these choices throughout the game are obvious. There aren't any choices in the game that actually require thought and an understanding of long-term consequences. Most of the decisions you have to make in the game are on the level of, "kick the stray dog," or, "give it some Alpo."

Additionally, there is very little physical freedom to this game. The environments are extremely restrictive and the places you can travel are very limited. You start out on this beautiful looking world that is one giant city to find out that you can travel on like two of its streets. I would much rather have had fewer worlds, but much deeper, more explorable and complex environments. Every world you go to has a very small area you can actually explore. These areas are of course bordered with eight foot tall granite slabs. The desert world (Dantooine if I'm not mistaken, but it's been a long time since I played) looks like it was designed in a day and a half.

The fighting system in this game does an ok job at copying that of Parasite Eve, which originally came out on the PS. Although it appears to be real-time, it maintains that sluggish feel found in turn-based RPGs where I hit you and you hit me (although traditional turn-based RPGs at least do that part well).

For a game that was really trying to be a groundbreaking RPG for the Xbox, I feel that it really pales in comparrison to Morrowind. I would actually recommend buying Pirates of the Carribean before KOTOR. Although Bethesda, with Morrowind and Pirates, put out two very bugged and glitch-filled games, you'll definitely spend more than your money's worth on the full RPG experience.

For those RPG fans, who played the originals like Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy, leveling up in KOTOR is also painful. Random encounters are few and far between, and you're usually stuck fighting sandpeople or those lizard/rhinocerus things. And that's when they're actually around.

Don't waste your money or time on this game. Save up money for early 2004 when both B.C. and Fable come out. Or better yet, put down your controller, put on your sneakers, and go outside. Go for a run, take up a sport, do anything but play this game.

This is a horrible game

The controls are slow and unreasonable! The graphics are foggy and unseeable. The gameplay is boring with nothing new about it. This is the the first rpg with Star Wars, and it's the worst!

Will be terrible! For sure!

I'm sure this game will be junk when it is released. I never thought any of the lucas arts games were that good. Some were even the worst games I ever played. Star Wars Jedi Outcast was the last straw. It convinced me not to buy star wars games again, or even waist $5.00 to rent a Star Wars game. I rather swim in a pile of puke than have this game in my home.

Xbox needs to give up on RPGs...

I'm sorry to say this, but this game is pathetic, and the level of fame that developer BioWare has gained over it really saddens me. Now, I'll admit that I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan (read: I saw one movie when I was eight), but I am a huge RPG fan, and this game plummets far below my expectations. I will describe my experience with the game, and hopefully you will choose to pass it by and skip the agony I went through.

At the start of the game, I was asked to choose my character's appearance, skill point allocation, and basic moveset. Sounds fun and cool, right? That's what I thought, too. Until I realized that every character model was blocky and pseudo-realistic (you know, that weird, pale, supposed-to-look-human-but-really-doesn't look), the skill-point system was convoluted and confusing to anyone who isn't a hardcore Dungeons and Dragons player, and choosing my moves was so difficult and frustrating that in the end, I didn't even know which ones I had. Creating the character took an hour, and I didn't feel at all satisfied after I finished.

Once I started the actual game, things only got worse. I headed to my first battle, expecting a standard turn-based system at the least, and an innovative action/RPG blend at the most. I got neither. Instead, I was greeted a bizarre mess. In fact, this combat system was so strange and awkward that I don't think I could even describe it. All I know is that, first off, my character was somehow moving on its own, and second, the commands I entered didn't seem to effect what happened onscreen at all.

After making my way through several battles, by way of random button mashing and liberal use of medpacks (that was the easiest way to do it, and seemed to have the same result as trying to concentrate and strategize), I met my first party member. What happened after that just plain scared me. First, the voiceovers made me want to both laugh and scream. Secondly, while the horrendous voice is grating your ears, you have to look at a disturbing close-up of the character's face as he's talking. And finally, THE FACE DOESN'T CHANGE. His expression stayed exactly the same throughout the entire conversation, and this happened with every single other character I talked to. Freaky.

The final part of the game that I played through was the first city. It was big, with lots of people walking around, going about their lives. This would be cool, if I had known where to go in this massive maze. But did I? Nope. Although my horribly-voiced partner apparently knew the city well, I recieved no guidance from him. Instead, he followed me around, giving me no hints but the instruction to "find Bastilla". By the way, I knew nothing about what Bastilla looked like or where she might be.

After twenty minutes of running around in the maze, talking to random, badly-voiced people, most of whom had mean things to say, I gave up. Maybe people who like Star Wars and D&D will appreciate this, but I just can't. BioWare, quit pretending you're the next great RPG maker and go back to putting your characters in MTV music videos.

This is probably the WORST game I've ever played!!

I am a fan of Star Wars games. I like Jedi Starfighter, Starfighter Special Edition, Clone Wars, Jedi Outcast and Obi-Wan. They were all good. When this came out, I thought it would be the best, but no. You can't even fire the gun when you want to. You have to wait for a 'target' to come up and then you can shoot, but when you press attack, it aims and fires for you. Talk about fun. The whole thing is practicly a movie. All you do is equip the guy and press the action button, that's it. Really boring and frustrating. NO FREEDOM like in Obi-wan or Clone Wars where you could go ANYWHERE and shoot ANYTHING. So don't listen to those losers who write awesome reviews before the game comes out. Listen to someone who has the game and don't make the mistake that I made of wasting my money on this JUNK. DON'T BUY THIS GAME!!!

BORING....................

The only reason I bought this game is because it had this so called "game of the year" thingy. You can't even attack, whats up with that. I'm a big boy, I can fight for myself I don't need the Xbox doing it for me. After an hour all I got done was making my stupid charater then I found out that you can't attack. Practicly the whole game is talking, talking, talking It's like The Social gathering game gone wrong. Do yourslef a favor and don't buy it. Its a total waste. Da** u Lucas arts.

No gameplay - at all?

First, I want to say that I realize most of the other reviews have raved about this game and referred to it as the "best" Star Wars game, and "best" game in general this year. I entirely disagree, as I rented the game two days ago, and i would like to point out the good and bad:

Pros:
Graphics:
I haven't really seen better graphics anywhere, and I was impressed with the graphics and sound for this game.

Storyline & Theme:
Cool story, and I must say, good job creating an atmosphere for Star Wars time minus 4000 years.

Cons:
Gameplay:
Horrible, perhaps the worst I have ever played. If you like pure RPG where you are basically watching a movie that is "choose your own path," then this game is for you. But if you actually want to play a video game (ex. Obi Wan), then there is no game to be found here. You just walk around and talk to people and see the reactions. When you fight, you just select to "engage" and watch the movie continue. You don't actually DO anything, and you can't actually FIGHT anyone. It is completely 180 from Obi Wan where you go around fighting enemies, exploring boards, gathering clues, and solving levels in classic video game style. Plus, to make things worse, you don't even have the force or a lightsaber until who knows when? - (I gave up on this game after six hours of pure boredom.)

Perhaps my mistake to expect it to be anything like Obi Wan, Halo, Max Payne, etc. But just a warning: if you like to actually control the subject and play a video game, don't even waste the six bucks on renting it. Likewise, if you like to just select options and watch the game play itself out for you, you'll probably love this game.

Shame really, why can't they make an Obi Wan that's not riddled with poor graphics and sound, and a shallow story? At least that was fun to play.

would be a great game if

this would be a great game if it didn't screw up all the time.I have bought 2 now and both of them will not play correctly.when you go into a different part of a town or map and it has to load, the game does not load correctly or the xbox can't read the disk.so yeah I am more than a little disappointed.

I bought this game because I LOVE Star Wars, and I LOVE Star Wars Games. I had seen the hype leading up to the game and I thought it looked great. I bought it after searching a few places for it and eagerly put the game in my Xbox. Boy, what a dissapointment. The game looks pretty good, but as far as how much fun it is? Well, let's just say it's about as fun as reading a really bad script on a hot summer day with no air conditioning. I was SO bored by the end of three levels that I simply stopped playing. Basically you run around talking to characters who talk and talk and talk. They tell you their entire life story if you care to sit and listen to it. And when the action finally happens after all the chatter, then there isn't much for you to do. The game actually freezes and says something like, "Enemy sighted. What would you like to do? Engage?" Then you can take as long as you want selecting your weapons that you think will help you fight. When all that is done and if you're still awake or even still care, you hit a button and your character just runs off and fights, usually getting killed in about 10 seconds and all you can do is sit back and watch. I realize this is a role playing game (something I will NEVER buy again) and that you are supposed to assign your character skills, but even that part is boring. The audio is awful....when you switch characters they mumble something like, "I'm here." Why? What's the point? It took me aout 10 times hearing that to figure out what the hell they were saying. The only thing I found interesting in the game is that some of the graphics were good...but I found Splinter Cell and Jedi Knight, Outcast to be FAR better as far as graphics, gameplay, and story.

Save your money or buy a bad novel. Either is preferable to this lame excuse for a "game."
