I woke up this morning with a terrible urge to play KOTOR...

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 0

Its been out for over five years at this point, KOTOR, but that did not stop me from waking up this morning with a terrible, life-altering need to play the game. Light and Dark side, male and female, I've played it all - and yet I still, after all the replays and years, love the game. Sure, five years later it looks a little simple and choppy compared to its grandchild, Mass Effect, but the storyline is something so captivating and the charectors so intriuging that I keep coming back time and time again.

*SPOILER* So, you're the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Reven, and the Jedi have managed to capture you and reprogram your brain so that your litterally tabla rasa, with the ability to fall to the darkside (thus proving that we cannot escape our pasts, that if you become evil, you were always dark) or rise into the glory of the light (proving that we choose to become what we do, and that circumstance is all that seperates the light from the dark). As you play you fall or rise according to your actions, all the while discovering more about your past and decay of the Republic, and can fall in love with your saviours and, in some cases, take them down with you. Save the galexy or destroy it. *End SPOLIERS*

But it is not just good vs evil, KOTOR is about what makes humans human, Jedi Jedi, and Sith Sith. KOTOR is far from a simple button-masher, it is an insight into Reven's psyche and your own. A must play for any serious Xbox player.

Didn't get game of the year for nothing.

I'm going to keep it short and sweet. This game is amazing, if you like star wars and if you like video games get this one. It's fun and challenging and good for any star wars fan. It got game of the year in like 2003 (i can't remember exactly) from at least 5 different magazines and websites. super fun don't pass it off.

THE BEST GAME EVER AND STILL PLAYING IT

THE BEST GAME EVER and STILL PLAYING IT!!!!!!!!!! If your anything like the hard core Star Wars fan and NEED to learn the ways of the FORCE (or scwartz) then this game would still be played. Knights of the Old Republic game made me want to go out and buy an XBOX (which it did). This game includes a near endless ways on how you interact with the other characters (in a good or bad way) and gives you character creation options (limited but still creative). I love that the ending and story changes when you choose either the light-side or dark-side. Thankyou soo much for making this game for Xbox now please will you kindly make it for PSP too soo I can carry it wherever I go?

Best Sci-Fi RPG for Original Xbox

Some people claim they had problems with the glitches in this title. I never experienced any such thing. This is by far the best sci-fi RPG ever made for the original Xbox. The story is deep and compelling. Most importantly, it keeps continuity with the original Star Wars story. The feel is classic SW. HIGHLY Recommended.

RPG HEAVEN

If you like RPG's and you are even slightly interested in Star Wars the story and gameplay in this game are amazing. Although you must choose light or dark they are both a blast "dark is better they have cookies". You get light sabres and force abilities out the wazoo not to mention vehical races and more. GET IT!!!

Too many bugs

Freezes constantly! The cut scenes have not worked yet, and the game will stop in the middle of loading. It skips during action sequences. The level maps themselves are the "go here - do this" type with no room for original thought or puzzle solving of any kind. The characters were interesting at time, but the plot kept jumping in the way. I'd be in the middle of going somewhere on a level and I'd be prompted to talk to one of the other characters. I found this game frustrating and monotonous. Morrowind is far superior in ever respect. Maybe my expectations are too high. Maybe I bought a defective copy. What ever the reason, I'm annoyed that I paid as much for this game as I did.

Great playability the first time through, but it gets monotonous and boring after that. You can't really become much of a sith in this game, for that try Kotor 2, but even then its lacking.

Tremendous

Basically, it boils down to this:
-Pro-
Tremendous story taking you to numerous planets, with a good twist towards the end.
-Con-
Repetitive and simple gameplay that you will either not mind at all or hate with a passion.

If you are not much of a Star Wars fan, this might bore you to tears. I really like the lore of the game, and how it plays out. I definitely would recommend this game.

One of my favorite RPGs ever.....meatbags!

This game is amazing, plain and simple. Why are yo reading this review when you could go out and buy the game right now? Ah so you want to know the reasoning behind the perfect 10 rating before you buy. Well first things first. People say the graphics are lackluster. I personally think they are fine for RPG graphics and are good enough to help make the game feel immersive. The sound is spot on, the effects match what's going on and the music is fitting for a Star Wars game. I am absolutely in love with the combat system, its my favorite non turn based system ever. It makes you feel like every second of the battle matters, which in some cases it does. The customization is fantastic, you can customize your character's looks, stats, force powers, and more. You can even customize your weapons and armor with a system later stolen by Blizzard for World of Warcraft, you may recognize it as the gem sockets in The Burning Crusade. Your character progresses along the dark or light storyline depending on the decisions you make, this contributes to replayability and just overall more fun. The missions are varied and atmospheric , not to mention they make you feel like you're actually accomplishing something. There are some great plot twists along the way as well, and the characters you have in your party are fantastic. My favorite is the robot bounty hunter who calls organic beings meat bags, not to mention he's just a bad a$$ in general. Go out and get this game, you will not be sorry in the least, well unless you don't have an Xbox, but then why are you reading this?
