This is Resident Evil with Evil on top

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 5

After having played ALL the Resident Evil games I've liked them for their complex stories and gameplay, but the gameplay is notoriously hard for those who lack the time or patience to adjust. Resident Evil 4 corrects all the difficulties associated with Resident Evil games... And then it goes way, way beyond. Resident Evil 4 has easy controls aiming is precise, unlike most other shooters. Turning an 180 is done by pressing down on the stick and B. RE4 has a great story worthy of the name, the game is long spanning two disks and is NEVER boring, sometimes challenging at times, it has nothing that will make you stop playing it. The graphics are cutting edge...state-of-the-art. There are no better graphics on gamecube or any other console. The combat is very addictive, but also quite gory. RE4 is not as scary as other RE games but I wouldn't let any young children near the screen. Not very many games deserve high ratings, if this one doesn't deserve the best then they should stop making games. RE 4 does all it sets out to accomplish. Its already one of the all time best games ever created. I'd buy it again if I didn't already have it.

An excitin' game; The BEST Resident Evil Game yet

This game has everything-

1)The graphics of this game are outstandingly beautiful, without a doubt one of if not the best lookin' games around

2)The intense action in this game, the AI in this game will not dissapoint you, they give you a great challenge, especially in no.'s that make you actually have to try to survive on this game

3)The enemies in this game are just spectactular; any of the bosses in this game would look like a "last boss" to any other game

4)The animation and environment in itself is just so creepy that you have to look both ways just to know you're safe

5)Very realistic, you will be thrilles to get this game

Overall-

5/5

Up there for game of the year! It's great; buy it, play it, love it

The best Gamecube game by far

This is by far the best Resident Evil game & Gamecube game that I have played this year so far. I couldn't believe how much Capcom had overhauled in the combat, graphics & gameplay. Now the camera is behind the character, which does make it better because now you don't have to guess where the enemies are coming from off screen. Now this is where some of the gripes come into play. You can swirl the camera and all but when you aim, it only goes in one direction instead of ahving a choice of where it would go in the options menu. I would have to say that my favorite part of this game is the Krauser vs Leon knife fight FMV (Full Motion Video). It was cool when you had to dodge the deathblows of Krauser with his knife. Also in a portion of the game, you had to fight off Krauser to collect 3 pieces to get to a door. I just love it when he mutates his arm. To me Krauser was a cool character. He had that bad ass personality along with the fact that he was with Wesker who also makes a comeback. These 2 are playable along with 3 others in a minigame called the Mercenaries. This isn't the one from Nemesis, this a completely overhauled one with a lot of changes.

Not bad

I did enjoy this game very much, But I think its kind of disapointing because it really is nothing like any of the other RE games. You dont get the same feel when you play this after youve played the other 3. I didnt like the enviorment and the zombies seemed so new and the graphics stuff like that makes me think this doesent belong in the Resident Evil series. But when you dont compare it too the other games in the series Its not a bad game at all. Infact I thought the new ideas for it were great, how you can buy guns and collect money. All in all its not a bad game but a disapointing entry to the series. If you wanna play a good RE game with the same main character, better zombies, LOTS of gore, and will make you $#!% your pants go play Resident Evil 2 now.

"DONT PEE YOUR PANTS"

Resident evil fans, Be affraid, Be very affraid, Because you heard what the creator of resident evil 4 said at E3, He said not to pee your pants. First of all they had to change the game 3 times because they messed up on the storyline, In November they showed a preview of resident evil 4 just to get everyone excited which featured leon walking down a hallway holding a flashlight, Then they showed another video were "Pretty boy" leon kennedy is walking in the umbrella Facility, Umbrella, kiss your ass goodbye, Because resident evil 4 is no longer associated with you! eek! Like they said you have never seen resident evil 4 like this before your going to be expecting a whole new different gameplay, And If you think your going to be getting into the habit of not being scared when your walking down a hallway just because your between two walls,Your Dead wrong, They arent always going to be coming from you From the back or front anymore no way kiddies they are going to pop out from all sides when you least expect it so watch your back! And second of all take a look at the graphics for this game they are beautiful! Resident evil zero's graphics go second place with this badboy. As far is this game is concerned ps2 owners, You might as well now shut your mouths about how kiddy the gamecube is... You are obviously jealous that resident evil is comming out for gamecube and not for ps2, Oh yeah and what did you say before? Kiddy games was it? I dont think so. Lets face it, sony isnt really a game companie, nintendo does only games which is why they innovate ways to play

best of the series, no doubt!!

since i brought home the first resident evil in the huge bulky custom playstation case back in 1996 i've been insterested in this series since its birth. Though after resident evil 2 the control scheme felt dated and the overall scare factor was left behind for a nemesis of a play style. Enter the gamecube which now has not only revived the series but brought us the original game in all of its graphical glory.

resident evil 4 is the best game of the series without a doubt in my mind. after completing the game in roughly 20 hours,i'm still blown away by the replay factor, not only does the game offer a seperate mission and character to play with but also several mini games and even more bonuses to make the player want to play through again.

and who wouldn't want to play through again, the locations and places the game takes the player through are absolutely breath taking. not only could i not put this game down because of the story, the play style and the graphics but the game felt perfect. NO where can there be found a blemish, all doubts you had about the series are adressed, from the camera angle to the aiming system, EVERYTHING is perfected in this title.

something that always is top notch in a resident evil game is the creatures, enemies, and bosses. and by no means is the experience barred by this. Every enemy is fully realized and there is such diversity in the enemies you'll never get tired of fighting to the end.

another great feature is the merchant in the game who sells you anything you could ever want on your journey. not only do you have to solve puzzles in this game but collecting money to buy that next sweet gun becomes a factor. also there is an rpg element when it comes to uprading your new death giver, this gives depth and another great feature people love, replayability.

i could go on and on about the great things in this game, but the point is simple if you have a gamecube buy this game. it is truly amazing and breaths life into an expanding series.

Game of the year... Decade... CENTURY!

I know that may sound like an overstatement, but I honestly believe that this game offers more than any game before it. The atmosphere, the graphics, the sound, the AI, the GAMEPLAY!!!

I know some people talk about the lack of zombies. Yeah, there aren't any zombies. I think we'll see them in the future, but in the meantime, enjoy fighting Las Plagas!

In my opinion, in future RE installments, there is going to be something involving using the T-virus on the Plagas to mutate them/make them harder to kill. You just wait. Whenever Ada gets something, it isn't going to be researched for the good of mankind...

Anyway, back to the main point, this awesome game.

The controls are a bit different, as is the camera, but it feels so natural, you don't even have to think about it. Everything is laid out well. The only problem I have with the controls is that sometimes when you lower your gun and press B to either run or do a 180, Leon will reload his gun rather than run or turn, which can get really annoying.

The graphics are simply beautiful, in a creepy kind of way. The lab feeling is all but gone. Instead you get a much more organic feeling from this game. There is only one section which takes place in an actual lab. Instead you get a creepy village, a creepy church, a creepy graveyard (it's a small part, but still creepy), a creepy farm, a creepy mine, a creepy dig site... Oh yeah, and a creepy castle... The only fault with the graphics is the clipping! I can't believe that they put all of that work into the graphics, and then let the clipping go! When there are Ganados on the other side of a door, for instance, you can see their weapons pass through to your side. This shouldn't happen, but it is still a minor, although frequent, problem.

The sound is wonderful. The Ganados are disturbing. As you progress through the game, their voices become less and less human sounding. By the time you're facing the military Ganados, the sound of one speaking will make you want to freak out. While we're on the subject of sound... Resident Evil voice acting! The voice acting is good. The script is good. As good as RE will get, anyway.

The storyline isn't as big as in previous games, which is odd, since they're introducing a whole new story! You will understand the basics of the Ganados and the Plagas by the end of the game, but more could have been done for those of us who enjoy the story almost as much as the actual playing experience.

The biggest adjustment you'll have to make in switching to RE4 from previous titles is the aiming. The laser sight seems to disappear at a distance, so you can waste time lining up shots that anyone who's looking down the sight of the gun would have had lined up in a heartbeat. You adjust.

Overall, this game is amazing. The only chance this game has of being knocked from it's #1 position is the new Zelda, but even that doesn't look like it has the potential to beat RE4. If you don't have RE4, go get it. If you don't have a Gamecube, go buy one so you can play RE4.

Oh yeah, if you need help with it, go to www.gamefaqs.com. I have a walkthrough under the name chrisnelson1984.

Let me just start off by saying that I am a big fan of past RE games but RE4 blows them completely away. I was a little worried when I heard that it was different than RE Zero through Code Veronica X but CHANGE IS GOOD. It's about as close to James Bond as you can get without have to listen to horrible british humor....instead you can listen to Leons wise cracking remarks. The graphics are great, the story is as good or better than any RE game. The game is a little difficult at first but you get the hang of it, the interactive cut-scenes are very cool (and frustrating at times). And the camera views are perfect for this game.

Bottom Line-
RE4 is a great buy for any die hard RE fan....or James Bond fan.

this is a decent game but it's like playing an arcade style of resident evil. The graphics are second to none and it does have some cool game play but it's not a typical resident evil game, basically just kill everything that moves, not much thinking involved. This game will keep u entertained for a few hours ,but killing everything gets boring fast, save your money and rent it first.

Modern masterpiece of the genre

At first I was very hesitant about this game. It seemed, on the surface, that Capcom had changed so much that how could it possibly be a Resident Evil game? Having just finished clocking in about 16 hours into the game I can say it is RE redefined.

Some people have complained about the direction in the series, but having played all of the mainstream RE games, I welcome this new change. The RE games had become redundant, nothing had been done to really mix up the gameplay. This is why I think RE4 has been so successful. It breaks you of what you have been taught in previous RE games. In the beginning I was so afraid of using bullets, but bullets are so abundant that I realized the point was to infuse you with frantic gunfights. I loved the faster pacing of the game instead of trying to run from everything to conserve bullets.

From the very beginning its like the first time the dog jumped through the window in the first RE. The townspeople don't just stumble toward you and let you shoot them. They dodge, they flank, they throw grenades, the do everything in their power to kill you. And kill you they will which brings me to another point. Save points no longer take ink and when you die you don't automatically start back at the save points. Nicely put checkpoints help you along so that if you die you don't have to backtrack and go through the same things over and over again. Thanks Capcom!

When you barracade yourself in the first house and hear the chainsaw reving, I challenge you to not sweat. From the opening moments onward, the game excels at raising the tension a notch, then allowing you a chance to rest. And those welcome moments of uneasy calm will be needed.

The bosses are amazing and varied as well. With the exception of one, I didn't find the bosses to be cheap. Hard, yes, but not cheap. What's interesting is that the last section of the game, the last location, is so very RE. In fact, I felt the need to conserve bullets was back as well. By that time, my bullet supply was running low and I moved from encounter to encounter with just enough to keep me going. Another way in which RE tried to break up the norm.

Graphically, the game is beautiful. There's some clipping issues where flames can be see through walls or hands will reach through closed doors, etc, but over all the game is beautiful. The sound effects are great, especially if you have a receiver that supports Pro Logic. The voice acting is spotty, probably because of the sometimes silly things they are saying. The story does a nice job of starting a fresh new series while at the same time bringing in the past and tying this game to the franchise.

I just can't say enough about this game. It's longer than all of the previous REs, in fact you could fit a couple of them into this game with room to spare. The one thing that I really missed was the "cheap scares" from previous REs. There really aren't too many jump out at you moments. But the intensity of each and every encounter made up for it in spades. If you like action video games I would doubly recommend you picking this game up. If you are a Resident Evil fan and an action fan, what are you waiting for? Get it.
