This game has awesome gameplay, realistic sound, stunning graphics (using the full power of the GameCube), and so much more. Really, this game has so many good points to mention, so I will keep this review short and sweet. The key thing to note is that Resident Evil 4 is just as good or even better than past Resident Evil games, despite the lack of zombies. Since this is a critical review, the only negative thing I can honestly mention is that Resident Evil 4 is only available on the GameCube at this time. It is an awesome game which should be accessible to any fan of this genre.
P.S. This game WILL be coming to the Xbox and Playstation 2 later in 2005.
Best Resident Evil Ever Made.

This Resident Evil is the best ever made, not only is it highly interactive (Videos along the game aren't just for watching), it has amazing graphics, controls, ambient and sound. You can buy and sell along the game, and you can upgrade (Modify) your weapons and if you're tired of them you can sell them.
The enemies are amazing, they come in many shapes and sizes with different weaponry (Some have RPG-7 launchers and Mini-Guns). The enemies can be hit in every area of their body unlike other Resident Evils, head shots make more damage than in the chest, and chest shots do more damage than leg shots, etc. They can miss when they attack you so they're highly realistic. They're not 'Mutants' as others have specified, you'll see what they are as you go through the game for some time along with notes a character Luis Sera leaves you.
For items, you no longer store them in Chests, you store them in Attache cases (you can buy larger ones as you advance). Besides having a great aray of weapons grenades can also be found (Flash Bangs, Incendiary or Fire Grenades, and fragmentary or explosive grenades).
As for money, it is given loose most of the time, you can sell everything for money (except Key Treasures, such as keys to a room, etc.), you can also find treasures, some with missing parts such as jewels, if you fit them the item will gain a higher price.
As you advance you'll encounter Ashley wich CAN get killed so you'll have to watch out for her, good thing is that you can heal her and you can also increase her maximum health. She'll also help you out (sometimes). She will not get on your way when shooting (she'll put herself behind you or if she's away she'll crouch). One funny thing is that if you try to look at her panties when she's standing above you she'll say you're a pervert and what the hell are you looking at (Tip: You can see them without her noticing them with the sniper rifle when she's very high above you, just if you're curious...).
The enemies are tougher depending on who or what they are, so there WILL be a difference when you fight them, even if they look the same.
This game WILL at least take you a good 18-24 hourss to finish it in Normal if it's your first time (You'll be increadibly entertained eblieve me, this game is really fun). And some 16-24 hours in Professional. Appart from the normal game is the Mercenaries game which is VERY fun, it consists of 4 different stages with 5 different characters, all with different equipment and special abilities. You'll start with Leon, and you'll need to pass each stage with 4 stars or more to unlock a new character.
Another mini game is 'Assignment Ada'. It's quite challenging, and fun too, you'll have to retrieve 5 Plaga (sort of the 'Virus' there) samples from the island, it's short compared to the normal game with Leon, but you'll find it fun. If I tell you more I'll ruin the game plot, all I'll tell you is that Ada takes twice as much damage as Leon does which is a lot, and ammo is scarce so you'll have to use it wisely (ok, not that scarce but still you'll need to use kicks or do accurate head shots).
The weapons you'll unlock when you finish the game (You'll need money to buy them) is an Infinite Rocket Launcher which is an RPG-7 and the 'Matilda" which is a H&K VP-70 which is a selective fire (means you get semi automatic or 3-round burst) handgun with a buttstock for better stability. The Inifinite Rocket is $1,000,000 and the 'Matilda' is $70,000.
If you finish Assignment Ada you can buy the 'Chicago Typewritter' which is a submachinegun called Thompson M1A1 which fires the .45 Cal. (Most powerful round in the game), and it has infinite ammo! The price: $1,000,000.
If you get 5 stars in every stage with every character in the mercenaries you get a Revolver called 'Handcannon' which is very powerful, and you need to upgrade it to get the exclusive upgrade which is 1-shot kill and infinite ammo, or just infinite ammo I forgott.
**Tip: Don't shoot the boxes at the beginning as I did, use the knife with the L button! (I didn't know this until I was far ahead in the game, so sue me).
**Tip: Shoot the guys in the head, get close and tap the A button to do a kick which will do a lot of damage, hopefully killing them, do this if you have the time or if you're short of ammo. You can shoot them in the legs too, when they're sort fo 'kneeling' or half standing up get close and tap the A button and he'll make a different move which is a strong kick (different kick than the other).
(Sort of a swamp o**Tip: When in the Marsh r a part surrounded by water), snakes will be hidden inside boxes, give a double slice and you'll kill it, snakes will give you an egg (always), but they will vary:
-White: Restores A little bit of health.
-Brown: Restores Partial health.
-Gold: Restores full health.
Buy it, if you're a Resident Evil fan or not, this game will keep you entertained for hours and hours if not days! Rent it if you don't believe me! Hope this small review helps.
Resident Evil 4 is best game ever. GO BUY IT!

The first thing I have to say is that, I don't like Survival Horror games. After playing Resident Evil 4, I still dont. BUT, I love Resident Evil 4 and every weapon, scream, and all horrifyingly fun moments that come with it.
Having never been a fan of the genre(I dont like being scared to the point where I cannot play), I went into Resident Evil very pecemisitc. I started off in the outskirts of a village, a European forest near a hut. What to me now seems like a walk in the park on a nice summers day, scared the crud out of me. As I walked in I was greeted by a cutscene of an angry villager who hated outsiders and, he had an axe. This is where it all starts, the first bullet I shot, suprised me! I had shot the man/creature directly in the face and he lurched back in pain while screaming and grabbing his face! From that point on the game only got better; and scarier.
There are too many good parts of this game to list all, but I will try.
-Camera Angles:
The first thing that you notice as you get started in this game is the camera. Its a partially-free moving camera that sits behind Leon and a little bit to the right. The camera does its job of never taking its eyes off Leon and giving you just enough of a field of vision to be able to see the enemy in front of you and to make you worry of what is behind.
-Graphics:
Easily the best graphics on Gamecube, Resident Evil utilizes every inch of hardware on the gamecube to bring lush detail to the world, the characters and everything in between. In no game have I ever seen face models as real as in Resident Evil 4. At some points, you will have to reload your weapon, and you see Leon turn his head to reveal his face, which while in combat or running has a stressed look on his face. They even show cuts on his face and body.
-Gameplay
Resident Evil 4's gameplay is by far the most intense gameplay I have ever experienced. At a time with no enemies around and you are free to explore for items and money, it keeps its intensity with creepy ambience and the feeling and state of mind that you know, that in a matter of seconds you could be face to face with a creature so out of this world that you pee your pants :) . But when it comes time to fight, this is when Resident Evil 4 becomes most intense. When you spot an enemy and shoot or come too close, you will alarm it most likely making it shout or create a noise to alert all others in proximity. When this happens you will begin to shoot at what ever is in you field of vision. But its not that simple, not only can the Ganados be tough to kill, but hitting them can be a challange too. Since mostly all of your weapons have a laser sight, the ganados can see it and have several manuvers to dodge it. It might be a duck of the head, covering there face or a quick sidestep. Now while all this is going on, there are more enemys working to surround you. When they do this, they will come up behind you and hit you with whatever they have, and yes, it will make you jump. A lot.
-Sound:
Im not good at complimenting sound, but ill try. They have a variety of scary music to fit the mood. But at cirtain points, it will become pretty action packed and they have a great musical composition for those moments too. Aside from music, the voice acting is top-notch, even if the dialoge lacks in one or two lines.
-Immersion:
Aside from being the most intense game ever, while playing Resident Evil 4, you cannot take your hands off the controller. And yes I mean never. In most games you play and play and play until you get to the infamous cutscene of that building you just blew up and you just sit back and relax. But no, in Resident Evil you can't relax. Why you ask? Because when you see that villager walk in with an axe and you are tied up and he swings...Leon is going to need a little help getting over the hump. How? Its simple. In many cutscences, you will be prompted with a random button press to get Leon out of whatever trouble he has managed to dig his way into. This was the only game I walked out of saying, that was the hardest cutscene ever.
-Overall:
Resident Evil 4 is absolutely the best video game that I have ever played. Even after beating it, you come back for more. You do this because, not only do you unlock a new, harder and scarier difficulty, but you unlock a new sidestory and a game type where the mission is to kill as many ganados as you can. These missions come loaded with characters, weapons and moves that you havent seen before, and the next time you play through, there are new weapons that will help you lay waste to anything that bother you. And after you beat the unlockables, there are more unlockables! This game rocks. Go buy it now!
Absolutely Amazing, The Best Game Ever Made!!!

Resident Evil has been a good series in the survival horror genre but nothing in the series can compare with this game. It is almost as if the game itself evolved into something much more than it was. The biggest change in the series has to be dumping the zombies from the game. Now we have hostile villagers who will come at you with whatever is lying around, things like pitchforks, knifes, torches, or just their bare hands.
You play Leon Kennedy again who is searching for the President's daughter in Europe. Once you arrive in town you notice the villagers are not friendly and obviously want you dead for no apparent reason. Capcom has finally realized that there are things scarier than zombies moaning at the moon. The thing that makes these villagers scary is the fact that they have brains. If they realize they can't fight you, they'll get others who are around and then try to trap you. Fortunately, you have a great arsenal this time around and the ability to interact with the environment.
Want to block the door with a shelf, hold the A button and stop when it's there. Want to make sure those people don't get you on the second floor, knock down their ladders. Of course, they'll still find a way to get to where you are or at least attack you. Whatever safety you felt on the other end of a door in previous titles, is lost in this game, doors are as flimsy in the game as they would be in real life. They can be knocked down, destroyed, or even broken apart. Windows can be broken and the enemies know that crawling in like zombies in the previous games is only a waste of time.
Capcom has taken out the fixed camera system (thank goodness) and replaced it with one that follows behind Leon making it easier to see things in front of you. As mentioned earlier, the arsenal of this game is huge and the selection will make you want to buy all of them at once. However you have to have enough room to place it in, just like the previous games, with a certain twist. Items are as big as they would be in real life. Don't have enough space for that shotgun, well then move your green herbs over. That's right, you can actually manage your items in a much better fashion and even discard those that are not needed. However, this is not RE0, once you drop an item its gone. Ammo is not scarce in this game due to the huge change in action but if you are bad at aiming or managing it, you'll have trouble with swarms of people. There's also a feature to upgrade your weapons to become extremely powerful. My favorite is upgrading the handgun to have the strength of a shotgun.
Another cool feature is the character you have to escort around. Ashley, the president's daughter, will follow you around at a certain part of the game, but she's not stupid. She'll duck when you aim in her direction, point out things to you if you hadn't caught them, scream when she gets abducted, and will hide when you tell her to.
Capcom knows that one enemy type is not enough to please everybody so you'll run into real creepy things. I will not spoil them because they are very cool to see and just writing it down would not be enough. But, I will say one thing, these other creature will scare the crap out of you when you first see them. The detail that went into each is amazing and none are reused from the other games.
The storyline is great, the best in the series and its interesting to find out what has happened to the village. The game follows 5 chapters and can be completed rather quickly. However, I bought the game when it first came out and I still play it to this day. There are many things that can be unlocked, which adds to the already replayability factor.
Pick this game up, no matter what, you must have this game if you own a GC no questions asked. There is nothing wrong with this game. I do feel sorry for those PS2 owners though who will have to wait a little on this one because this is one of the best games that has ever been released, but if you can't wait, go out and buy a GC, they don't cost much and they don't take up much space.
Pros
- The best game ever made
- Better Camera system
- Best Storyline in all the games
- Very Smart AI
- No more zombies
- Great Graphics
- Great Sound
- Awesome item system
- Huge Arsenal
- The ability to upgrade weapons
- The unlockables add to the already great replay value
- The escorting in the game is the best ever done in a game
- The character you do escort is smart and reacts to situations well
- We get to see Leon again after all these years
If this isn't a masterpiece, I don't know what is.

It's been hailed as the greatest Resident Evil game ever, and even as the greatest survival horror game ever...can these claims possibly be justified? Well, after playing it, I would have to say...yes. All right, maybe it's not better than the first Resident Evil in terms of conceptual perfection...that game will forever hold a special place among horror fans. But in terms of how the sequels and general clones of that series have turned out, I would say this one tops them all.
As the back of the box puts it, forget survival horror, and forget zombies. By the time Resident Evil 4 was on the cards, it's creators must have seen the fun that people playing "Devil May Cry" were having and decided that the RE gamers would enjoy some similar all out action, because RE 4 is a perfect blend of that game and the original Resident Evil elements. So what's different? Well, remember in the first game how scared you were when that first zombie lurched down a corridor towards you, and then in Resident Evil 2, how scared you were when that group of 6 or 7 burst into the gun shop to make a meal out of you...? Well you'll soon be in a whole new world of danger in this game.
Right from the start, you know you are in for something special. Playing as good old Leon Kennedy from RE2, you are dumped outside a small rural community and quickly introduced to it's freaky inhabitants...not zombies but seemingly possessed, homicidal villagers. After encountering two or three on a woodland path, you'll already be thinking "these zombies are a bit too clever for my liking", but just wait, because a mere 20 minutes or so into playing time, the game plays it's first major trump card as you reach the outskirts of a ramshackle village. There's no choice but to enter and getting spotted is unavoidable. What follows is truly breathtaking gameplay, as, from all corners of the enviromnment, crazed figures start emerging, all armed with pitchforks, axes and flaming torches, and all heading towards you! Run into a small house, and you get the option of pushing furniture over the doors. Run upstairs and look for escape, only to find that they are lifting ladders up to the windows and climbing in! You can push the ladders down but they only pick them up again...and then, as you start to dash from one window to another to keep them at bay, you hear a crash from downstairs as the blockades break, and before you know it they are inside the house and coming up the stairs. Panicking yet? Wait until you see the one with the sack over his head weilding a huge buzzing chainsaw that can kill you in one hit. It's nothing short of brilliance to pitch you against such an onslaught and see if you can handle it. There are no tricks or rules for beating this scenario, it's purely up to you, so use your wits. Run away, climb up the church tower and pick them off, set fire to them all with grenades, you can try anything you like and the game will probably let you do it. It took me two or three tries to make it through this set-piece alive, and then, I realised I had been having so much fun that I reloaded the game and did it all again a few times more, until Leon was a slick machine causing maximum damage at lowest cost to his own health and ammo. Totally awesome, and yet a sequence like this, that would form a climactic centerpiece of many other games, is merely the opening battle.
So what next? Well, things just carry on in this vein of excellence and the action hardly ever lets up. Getting past the village leads to other rural settings like a farm, a lake, a quarry and a cemetery, amongst other things, and each new environment seems to be teeming with life - all of it trying to end yours! After what seems like hours, you will eventually find yourself in front of an impressive castle, and once inside, the second major playing field of the game begins, where you find yourself roaming vast chambers and battling scores of cowled monk-like enemies who are no less adept at fighting you than the villagers outside. Notice I said the second location - not the last - because after the castle comes still more, as Resident Evil 4 is an absolutely gigantic game. I can't go on to detail all the locations of the game,. as this review would take forever, plus it would also spoil the plot for newcomers too much, but be aware that your adversaries don't get any easier, and certainly no less numerous. You'll soon be facing snipers with crossbows, flaming catapults, and thugs sporting heavy duty gatling guns and cattle prods (yeoowch!), plus the game has subverted the idea of a well-paced head shot gaining you a swift victory - watch in later stages as decapitated villagers stand up again and bear down on you again with tentacles and flailing razor blades sprouting from their bloody neck stump...!
As for graphics, things couldn't be better. Leon looks realistic enough, and the locations are gorgeous, but it's the enemies that really steal the show. The villagers look like real people! Male and female, they all point, snarl and shout at you in Spanish (I think!) as they approach with weapons at the ready. They're no slouches, either, and will also dodge aside if they see you aiming a gun at them for too long. Luckily the weaponry at your disposal is pretty tasty; you'll have the standard handgun, shotgun and magnum of course, but say hello to the the sniper rifle, sub-machine gun and of course the trusty knife, which has finally been awarded a place as a worthy weapon, as you can now lunge and do some pretty severe damage any time if the enemy is close enough. And it is permanently equipped, so you just use a different button for a knife attack, whatever your current weapon. Not to mention that all the weapons can be upgraded and improved by spending money (that you pick up from dead enemies or find by smashing crates) with "merchants" who crop up every so often, usually just before or after an important scene. This is a new aspect for the game, and one that is definitely borrowed from "Devil May Cry". You can even increase your maximum health with rare Yellow Herbs that complement the game's famous staple of Red and Green Herbs for health recovery.
I honestly have to say that I could not believe just how big this game was. Even before the end of disc one, RE4 has crammed in more gameplay than a complete play through of any of it's predecessors would give you. There's hardly anything that it falls short on. Bosses? Plenty of them, and often more than one per chapter. Variety? You'll find lots of diversions here, such as playing sections unarmed as Ashley, who is Leon's companion for some of the time (think Sherrie from RE2), riding vehicles such as mine carts and trucks while enemies throw themselves at you, and escaping near-death scrapes by following "emergency" button prompts on screen (think "Shenmue"). Plus loads I haven't mentioned...oh, just wait for the crane that you control briefly, which picks up enemies and drops down them a chute like you were trying to win a cuddly toy - a real hoot!
I've only got a few tiny niggles, which are firstly that Leon still cannot move while aiming! Sure, the old fixed controls have finally been scrapped for the great new "follow behind" viewpoint, but I played the PS2 game "Cold Fear" before this one - which supposedly mimics this game's fighting controls - and in that one Tom Hansen could aim his gun and still walk...whereas Leon Kennedy becomes rooted to the spot every time he readies his weapon...imagine the fun of being able to step back or strafe while keeping your gun sight trained on an enemy's head. Why not, Capcom? However, kudos to them for scrapping the elements of the previous games that fans did not like, such as item chests that share the same contents wherever you find one, and the typewriter ribbbons needed to enable saves (they are now unlimited - hurrah!).
But one last thing - the final battle has such a huge dose of deja-vu that I though for a minute I was right back at my PS1 all over again...you'll see what I mean.
This review is going on too long, so I'll stop. Last thoughts are - yes it's worth buying, and yes it's the best Resident Evil and/or survival horror game since the PS2 was invented. As a Gamecube owner I'm lucky to be playing it long before it comes out for the PS2 - if you can't wait for that, simply buy a Gamecube. I'm surprised if any true RE fans haven't got one already, as they would also be missing out on the excellent original remake and RE Zero as well...but the console is worth owning for this game alone. A true 10 out of 10.
Outstanding

It's amazing to see the Resident Evil franchise grow so much since the release of the first title in '96. It has spanned its name across each of the different systems and has now landed on the Nintendo Gamecube. Resident Evil was first presented on the Gamecube in '02, it was a remake of the classic edition and followed a lot of the same style of gameplay as previous Resident Evil titles. The game's graphics were absolutely phenominal. Along with memorable cutscenes, excellent voice acting, and terrifying gameplay, Resident Evil made an excellent debut on the Gamecube. Resident Evil 4 is an outstanding release that is wholeheartedly recommended to fans of the series. There are plenty of new features in RE4 that weren't present in RE such as never before seen enemies, a reinvented behind-the-back camera perspective along with a hit zone aiming system; shooting an enemy in the head has a higher damage percentage than shooting it in the leg. Furthermore, certain battles require you to use your wits as hordes of enemies can surround you at times. You may be required to use grenades, instant kill techniques such as Leon's roundhouse kick, or shooting your enemies in the legs to make them tumble to the ground. Graphically this game is breathtaking. The amount of detail in each character, as well as the environment will leave you taking the time to appreciate the work put into this game. There are a large number of cinematics throughout the game which provide a bit of a break from all the white-knuckle action and are enjoyable to watch in their own right as they provide further substance to the storyline. The voice-acting in each of the cutscenes is very well done; the lip movements flow well with the voice of each character which is very nice to see. The gameplay itself is just downright fun. Although Leon can pack a lot of heat with weapons such as the shotgun, rocket launcher, or submachine gun, you'll want to take careful consideration of which weapons to bring to bear. You have a limited amount of what you can carry on your character. Furthermore, you can choose whether or not to upgrade your weapons in their firepower, bullet capacity and so forth. This detail also helps to provide a higher replay value. It is important to choose which weapon to use on which enemy as at times ammo for particular weapons can become quite scarce as you progress through the game. The new large bosses can take a lot of firepower to take down, but you can feel a sense of relief once you've taken down a twenty-foot behemoth that has just wreaked havoc on your character. The storyline, although rather simple, is enjoyable as it progresses well over time and there are certain plot twists that will leave you wanting to reach the end of the game. I recommend this game to any Resident Evil fan who has followed the series. However, this game is so good that it is recommended to any action/adventure fan as well. If you own a Nintendo Gamecube, you owe it to yourself to AT LEAST rent if not purchase it.
A bit about the story...
"U.S. agent Leon S. Kennedy has been tasked to look into the abduction of the President's daughter and his investigation has led him to a mysterious location in Europe. As Leon encounters unimaginable horrors, he must find out what is behind the terror."
Pros:
-New gameplay mechanics - behind-the-back camera perspective
-Hit zone aiming system
-Phenominal graphics and 3D effects
-Relentless white-knuckle action
-Enjoyable cutscenes along with excellent voice acting
-Unlockable extras
-Excellent replay value
-25 hour (give or take) campaign
Cons:
-The ability to make your weapons so powerful, let alone the already potent firepower of each gun can make the game seem somewhat easy. However, you can unlock new difficulties
-Although it definetly had its moments, this title just wasn't as scary as previous ones
BEST.....RESIDENT....EVIL....EVER

This has to be the best game I have ever played by far. I would rate the gameplay, control, story, graphics, sound, and overall fun factor of RE4 a 10/10. When I first played this game in a mall in D.C, I instantly fell in love with the eerie environment, smooth graphics, and easy playability. Unlike earlier games in the Resident Evil series, RE4's focus as far as shooting is all accuracy. Unlike other games where the most accurate way to shoot a gun involves using some sort of zoom feature, RE4 creatively utilizes a laser sight system, enabling you to shoot at a larger number of enemies, while keeping an eye on your character's surroundings at the same time. In addition to this, there will come a time (actually, many times) in this game where, in order to dodge, jump, open, attack, and do various other incredible actions previously impossible to create w/ limited buttons, you will need to quickly press a random combination of buttons (A and B, L and R, or rapidly moving the control stick in a circle). The pure cinematic capability of RE4 is one of its best qualities. The characters are extremely worldly, and seem almost like real people. Some players might even connect with a character or two, such as the epitome of the protagonist, Leon S. Kennedy, the somewhat naive yet loving Ashley Graham, the helpful, friendly, suave spaniard, Luis Sera, the enigmatic, ruthless, yet charming leader of the Los Illuminados (the cult to which the "zombie villagers" belong), Osmund Saddler, the beautiful, cunning woman from earlier Resident Evil games, and perhaps even the tiny, impish, childish Ramon Salazar, the Castellan of the medieval fortress in which part 2 of the game takes place. The horrors in this game are unspeakable, be it the towering El Gigante, the swarms of posessed villagers (los ganados, the enemies that replace zombies in this series), the furtive Verdugo, or the near-invincible, shambling monstrosities known only as Regenerators. The story itself could be made into a movie (let's hope that at least THIS Resident Evil isn't ruined by the creation of an over-hyped knock-off of a popular game. Yeah, I said it!). The mysteries that gradually unfold over the course of the game will keep you thinking even as you blast through hordes of enemies. Perhaps the most shocking is the revelation of the identity of the mysterious "rogue agent" that supposedly kidnapped Ashley. I won't give anything else away, but just know that it's the perfect twist leading up to some great battles, which in turn reveal more about the "agent's" true goals. Sure it's a little different than other games of the series, but trust me- with the release of the X-Box 360, G-Cube prices have dropped. Take advantage of that. Buy the GC if you haven't already, just for this game. Or, if you have PS2, get that version instead. If there was ever a video game worth owning, RE4 steps on the face of that game and triumphantly stands atop ALL opposition.
Resident Evil is back in a new way, shape, and form.

Resident Evil 4 for the almighty Gamecube follows Leon Kennedy, one of the heroes from Resident Evil 2, as he finds himself in some sort of Spanish farm village to find the President of the United States' kidnapped daughter Ashley. Little does he realize that he is stepping right into another nightmare, one that may just surpass that of the Raccoon City incident. On his adventure he will encounter unlikley and yet familiar faces, crazed religious men, and many more..
For better of for worse, RE 4 is a major step in a different direction than the previous games in the series. To begin, this is the first Resident Evil to have a free-roaming camera instead of having it in a fixed position. In addition, you can finally interact with your enviroment & enemies (half the time you have no choice if you wish to survive). By this I mean you can now jump over fences, kick enemies away, etc. And finally, this game is all about fast paced, heart racing action instead of puzzles and shooting something once in awhile.
I'll tell you straight up, this game is hard. Maybe to many it wasn't, but for me it was. Anyway, you get a lot of weapons like a handgun, shotgun, sniper rifle, a few types of grenades and many more. You also get a lot of items like ammo, first aids, treasures, and herbs. As you progress in the game you can upgrade your weapons to a much more powerful state, and if you do certain things right, can unlock new weapons altogether. Like I said earlier, this game focuses more on the action like really intense shootouts. Like in one part, you and a new character named Louis must shoot it out against pretty much an army of parasite-infested villagers before they kill you, and the best part is, they will break windows and use ladders to get into the house - both on the first and second floor.
The AI in this game is truley amazing. Every enemy you encounter will call for backup, try dodging your aim, and use any kind of weapon they can get their hands on. Even your allies AI is good - for instance, if you aim your weapon at Ashley she will duck so you can fire at someone who may be coming up behind her. I was impressed, and apparently, so were hundreds if not thousands of other players.
Now it is time for graphics. I'll say it out right and blunt: They are pretty much some of the best on the Gamecube and probably some of the best in the whole gaming industry. I know I say this a lot, but everything looks so damned lifelike, and at times, extremley menacing. The guns look real, and sound it too, and every character (be it Leon, the village chief, etc) all look so amazingly real. Capcom did an exceptional job on the enviroments. From the lonley, pre-21st century villages, to the dark and scary graveyard, to the HUGE and terrorfying castle you will be amazed. Hell, even the water moves fluid and looks beautiful... until the Watcher of the Lake comes and attacks you.
Whats cool in this game is just like in RE 3: Nemisis, you can unlock a sort of "Mercenary Mode" where all you do is kill as many enemies as you can using a small assortment of weapons until time runs out. If you complete certain stages with a certain score you can unlock other characters to use such as Hunk, and Wesker... although I wasn't too impressed with Wesker, it is still a lot of fun and is also very action packed.
The sound is pretty awesome, although there isn't much music besides the save music. The voice overs are awesome and when it comes from the enemies, it definitley freaks you out. The villagers, Illuminados, and every one else all scream and whisper and growl.. its awesome. Although Leon is voiced by someone different than that of his RE debut in number two, whoever voices him now he helps give Leon some personality and just makes him more human.
Wha I didn't like was that this game, to me, feels as though its a basic run-n-gun game instead of a real horror filled Resident Evil title. I guess I'm just too old school nowadays. Anyways, dont get me wrong, the game is a lot of fun and is definitley worth picking up... but dont think that just because Leon Kennedy is in the game that it has anything to do with the other titles in the series. In otherwords, older fans of the series may feel left out of the circle.
Superb!

This is the console game I've been waiting for since I beat Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64 all those years ago. Everything is glorious about this game: the graphics, the story, the AI, the cut sequences, the weapon system, the fact that if you aim for their knee they will fall down. This game will keep you coming back for more, over and over. The new enemies in this game are unlike any you have seen before and will keep you on your toes. The bosses are extremely challenging and are very different from eachother as to not get boring. All your weapons are upgradeable, adding for more entertainment. If you like adventure games, survival games, or shooter games this should be your top choice. No question the best Resident Evil game ever, and, in my opinion, the best game out for Gamecube, possibly best game of year for any system.
RESIDENT EVIL 4 is the best video game I've ever played!

Thats right folks! Right now (at this time in my life) I feel that RESIDENT EVIL 4 is the best video game ever made. Pure and simple! Growing up in the 80's, I've played enough video games to single out the "best of the best." I've also bought enough video game systems in my time and through the years I've seen some really amazing games! Every once in a while a game comes out that blows everything else away! Back in the late 80's it was SUPER MARIO BROTHERS 3 that took the cake. Anybody who was ANYBODY had a copy of SMB3, it was truely a classic! In the mid 90's FINAL FANTASY III was the game of choice. I can remember long nights of playing that game on my SUPER NINTENDO because it was so good! Soon the mid 90's brought the PLAYSTATION into our homes. One of the first games I've ever played for it was RESIDENT EVIL. It was one of the first games that actually made me feel real emotions when I played it. Pure, hardcore, in your face, terror! RESIDENT EVIL scared the living crap outta' me and to this very day, I can remember the feeling of being scared to death by a video game! (Anyone who played RESIDENT EVIL back in the day remembers that first freaky scene where the skinless dogs jump through the glass window. I'm willing to bet EVERYBODY jumped out of their skin!) RESIDENT EVIL part one is a classic and will always be a classic! For the longest time no game could match what RESIDENT EVIL did, I think it's safe to say that nothing can compare. 2005, RESIDENT EVIL 4 is now out. I'm not going to sugar coat my details. The bottom line, RESIDENT EVIL 4 is better that ANY of the "classic" games that have came out during the past ten years or so. This game does such a good job (being fun and creepy) that you keep wanting to go back and play it more and MORE! Everything about this game is amazing! The graphics, the game play, the story line. Listen to me when I say that THIS IS THE BEST GAME EVER MADE! Instead of feeling like your playing a game, RESIDENT EVIL 4 makes you feel like your LIVING it! The game actually gets your heart pumping! However, it's doing you no good sitting there reading what I think about it. Buy the game. Thats it. Buy the game! Personally I think it's impossible to dislike this game. Buy it, play it, enjoy it. A rare treat when a game like this comes out.
