Opened the eyes of a jaded and burnt-out gamer

Heh, there are mountain of positive reviews for this game already, so I'll keep it short. Basically I've been playing games since the days of Atari 2600 and Apple IIe till now with the most current next-gen systems. This game is, and I don't say this lightly, one of my favorite games ever.

I was skeptical in buying this game, despite being a Resident Evil fan because most games this days just don't impress me. However, this game is not only a great Resident Evil game but just a great game in general. You've probably already read about the amazing graphics, great story and good gameplay, but more than anything, I'm just impressed with the polished touch to the game. It just oozes quality in production values. Moreover there is a ton of replayability.

I rarely play a game more than once, heck these days I often find it boring to finish most games, but with Resident Evil 4, I've replayed the main game 3 times and having a blast with all the mini-games. This game is destined to be a classic.

Whoa...

God this game was so cool - up until that chick Ashley turned up, that ruined it with her flashing her undies every single time. But ignore her and pay attention to Leon's thong and you have something.

The gameplay is awesome and is very addictive. It isn't extremely hard and one of most newest things to the Resident Evil series is that the camera will follow you, and that during the cut scenes you can't drop the controller and watch because you have to press buttons during the scenes.

You are in complete control and this is a deffient game to get. It so far is the greatest game on the Gamecube, besides Mario Kart Double Dash lol.

Greatest game ever made

And that's saying a lot. I have played some great games, but overall, this is the best ever. It is really beyond words. Just read some of the other reviews. It's pretty much all been said, I just wanted to give it my five stars.

Frickin' awesome! Best RE ever!!!!

This gem is by far the best RE. It takes the series in a brave new direction. It rocks!

GAMEPLAY: Run around in many areas, shooting your enimies and monsters. New controls, a new aiming system, plus enimies drop items. One cool thing is that if you shoot an enimie's head, you can kick him or suplex him. Another thing is a LOT less puzzles, just pure action!

Another feature is those merchents. You get money and can get new weapons, more space, and more. There are no boxes, and no Ink Ribbons [yay!]. Overall, a much different RE game. Different in a good way! Also, beat the game to play Mercanaries and Assignment Ada.

GRAPHICS: Really impressive. Realistic faces, creepy enviromesnts add to the terror.

Sound: The voices are good. And the sound is nice.

STORY: It's pretty different. It takes place in 2004, 6 years after the other RE games. Umbrella has been destroyed by the government, so no more T-Virus! Anyway, Leon Kennedy [From RE 2] is now a US agent. His mission is to rescue the President's hot daughter, Ashley, who was last seen in Europe. In Europe, Leon encounters a strange village, and the terror begins.

Overall a great story which ending sets the stage for the next one. Plus, an RE 2 character who you thought was dead returns!

CONCLUSION: Overall [damn, I say that word too much] a great bloodbath. Great for RE fans, or action fans!

UPDATE: 8/12/05: RE5 is going to be released for PS3 and XBox360. Those systems will be painfully expensive!

AWESOME

I didn't think it was possible the ever beat the first resident evil due to it's classic standing, but this is so so so amazing. Resident Evil 4 is the future of horror gaming at it's best. So now we can sit back and watch the ripoffs start rolling in, but this is where the future starts. Easily the best and most original of the franchises release since the first. This has definitly made my top 3 game list of all time. Go get it now!

WOW!!!!! ...and that's cause I'm a PC gamer.

First of all in response to what Elton Lee posted, Resident Evil 4 is meant to be "scary" so you are NOT supposed to see where the enemies are coming from.

**spoilers included**

Resident Evil 4 is played in a 3rd person point of view. At times it will be played in a first person point of view(fps) when you decide to equip Leon with one of the rifles and snipe some heads completely off.
This game reminds of when I first played Rainbow Six on my PC with the suspense of not knowing what's around the corner except of course for the health meter which allows you more than one wound. :) I will admit to jumping in my seat a couple times when Leon was first grabbed over the shoulders by a villager and then when I first tried to take out one of the chainsaw ladies.
This isn't a first person shooter(FPS) game where you run around and blast everything. You actually have to plan attacks at times and look for ammo in drawers and such while trying to avoid attacks from all sides.
The A.I. is phenomenal!!!
Instead of the regular ol' zombies, these baddies will actually strafe to avoid attacks and somtimes bunch up so the front few will absorb the hit and the back few will rush up and attack. And yes as Elton Lee posted, they will attack you from the sides and behind so you've got to keep moving, toss a grenade or equip Leon with a submachine gun.
The atmosphere in the game makes it a lot more scary like this one chapter where your in a village, it's raining and you can't see much until the lightning flashes across the night sky.
The ability to upgrade your weapons is awsome and gives it an RPG feel. Believe me, there are a lot of weapons to buy, find and win in this game. My favorite is the tactical shotgun with the power maxed out. Call it my personal Boomstick. ;)
The graphics, hmmm, I think you've heard enough about that aspect of the game but I will say that Capcom did a wonderful job devoloping this game around the OpenGL Gamecube graphics processor. I've never seen better flames in any game, yup, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow(PC) included.
I was waiting so long to play Half-Life 2(PC) and even got Doom 3(PC) to kill some time but after playing both Half-Life 2 and Resident Evil 4 I've gotta say that I'm so glad that I've got my Gamecube. My girlfriend on the other hand has not heard from me since it came out on Jan 11.

best game ever and will always be 4ever

i dont know where to start with this game. it is so unbelievable.i think this is capcom's greatest game ever and no matter how many times i beat the game it never gets old. i know that when resident evil 5 comes out its will be mad crazy and i hope they never release a resident evil game on the XBOX cause it will blow. i am not saying that the XBOX sucks its just that i dont think it would look good.even if the XBOX has high graphics. i think all future resident evil games should be released on the Game Cube. thank you everbody for your time to read my review

I had never been interested in the Resident Evil franchise, mostly because they never got even good reviews and it always looked a bit stupid. Back in mid-2004, however, I started reading some article in Nintendo Power about the game. I got excited about it, especially the amazing visuals.
After I waited about eight grueling months for the game, I finally popped it in my Cube to try it out. It is the best game I have ever played. I never thought Capcom was capable of a game of this caliber, but I was definitely wrong. Resident Evil 4 is just completely awesome in nearly every category.

The graphics, in my opinion, are the best console graphics to date. Maybe even the best ever, though I think Half Life 2 gives it a tough fight. Each villager, which there are many of, is 5,000 polygons and the game never had a framerate problem for me. That may not sound impressive, but MGS3's Snake is roughly 7,000 polygons and there's one of them. There's about a hundred villagers in RE4.

The music definitely sets the mood, creppy tunes that will immerse you even more in the game. Voice acting is even good, though there is definitely better voice acting out there. Half Life 2's or Halo 2's is better.

Controls are greatly, greatly improved from the other games in this franchise. In RE0, it was difficult to move around but in RE4 it's a breeze. The B button serves as a "dash" button which you'll probably almost always be using, while the A button serves as the "action button". For example, you can go up to a window in an upstairs building and the A button will appear and in big letters "JUMP OUT WINDOW". This is very simple and is a great new addition to Resident Evil.

When you're walking around in a creepy castle and a cultist grabs your neck, you know the gameplay is great. Though it isn't quite as scary as the past games, it still has the creep factor.

My only complaints about this game are two:

1. Some of the phrases in the game are cheesy.
2. A strafe ability would be nice, but this isn't very big.

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games ever created, the best to me. This game is a solid 20 hours of story, then many unlockables: professional mode, secret weapons, secret costumes, a new title screen, and two awesome minigames. With the longevity, great unlockables, and awesome gameplay, visuals, sound, and controls Resident Evil 4 is as near a perfect game as I've seen in a very long time.

It's coming out on the PS2 later but I'm feel that the graphics will really be downgraded because the PS2 is an older system and is not as powerful as the GCN. Resident Evil 4 is a must buy, if you don't have a GCN you need to buy a GCN and this game. Don't miss out on the best game this generation.
