When you look at games you look at not only graphics but gameplay. Well Capcom the producers of the hit survival series Resident Evil are making there next installment in the series. Promised by the head of Capcom themselves to be the best, longest, most horrifying graphical game you will ever play. The Gamecube is a very small system but with great features and lots of unknown power wich is used to the limit with Resident Evil 4. The graphics stated by Nintendo,Sony,Microsoft and Capcom saying they have never seen something so beautiful and realistic and that they even admit the PS2 and Xbox couldn't handle this. When major companies say that you know this game is going to own all. Now besides the graphics what about the story, controls, and features the game has. Well you are Leon S. Kenedy from Resident Evil 2 back to have some more fun with zombies now called villagers. At E3 when we got a chance to play RE4 we learned the T-Virus and Umbrella are gone but they still tie in with RE4's plot someway later on in the game. The new type of zombie called villagers are far more freaky when playing the game and still have traits of zombies like unbelievable strength, unhuman and very sick. Later on in the game they get more slow and diseased looking. Whenever the church bell rings attacking you or not they drop everything and slowly walk towards the church. There are several locations in the game and we got to play two diffrent areas the insane town and the dark castle wich had all new kinda of monsters and villagers Capcom soon will release information on. Theres alot more areas then just the town, and castle but nothing we have seen yet. The controls were a issue in the old Resident Evil games for some people thats why Capcom changed the controls but didn't. What I mean is alot of people liked the old controls so Capcom kept them and redid the camera angles so that it always is behind you so no more pushing forward to go back and back to go forward. Sound is so amazing in this game that you think you were in the village or castle wherever you are it doesn't matter the sound will be right with you. Now for some features. No more aiming just straight, up, or down aim wherever you want with the new aiming system allowing you to shoot the head of the villager every time, the leg or arm. You can hit the A button to jump in and out of windows to get away along with shoving and hitting the villagers attacking you. The reality of this game was truly amazing to everyone at E3 this year when we saw what will happen in actual gameplay. Leon ran into a house while serveral villagers screamed and moaned outside in a foreign language. They started to break the windows, bust open the doors and chuck things into the house. All the sudden a chainsaw started outside and the windows on the second floor of the house you could hear were broken by villagers rushing in. Leon jumped through the window and turned only to be met with the chainsaw man who smashed the chainsaw into Leons chest and just starred at Leons eyes from about 1 inch away. The gore is so high that it beats any other game because the blood from the chainsaw hitting Leon started flying everywhere and drenched Leon along with the crazed villager. I will leave everything else upto you to find out but for now pre- order Resident Evil 4 and start being infected.

It has been a long time in coming, but Resident Evil 4 is finally in the hands of gamers. As the third RE game made for GameCube, RE4 contributes more than its share of innovations the series desperately needed. From the amazing visuals and the stirring soundtrack to the startling yet pragmatic storyline, RE4 is everything a survival/horror title should be. Now if only more developers saw the capabilities of the GC console the way Capcom did, it's possible that the system's fate would have been a completely different story today. But in the meantime, RE4 is Capcom's crowning achievement and as if this writing it can only be found on GameCube.
You play as Leon Kennedy, hired by the U.S. government to rescue the President's daughter in Europe. With the absolute absence of Umbrella's presence, you'll uncover the secrets taking place there as well meet new friends and foes. What differentiates this game from the other Resident Evil titles is purely one thing: action. Like a roller coaster ride that seems endless, the game has little room for breaks and you'll be spending a lot more time keeping enemies off your back. As one may have guessed, there are no zombies in this RE. It may turn off gamers who are used to the previous games and the action may grow tiresome one boss battle after another, but it does give the series the new direction it deserves.
Like Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0 before it, the visuals of RE4 contain some of the best seen in a console game. Hats off to Capcom once more for creating another gem. The static pre-rendered backgrounds are now replaced with full 3D environments, allowing the player to roam freely with a newly implemented third person viewpoint. Capcom made excellent use of the GC hardware, with amazing fire, water and fog effects, detailed areas to explore ranging from villages to castles and some of the most memorable monsters yet. Although the fresh gameplay scheme may take time getting used to, RE veterans and non-veterans alike should be able to get a grasp on the controls quite easily.
New gameplay additions include buying and selling weapons and ammunition with the help of money you collect throughout the game as well as upgrading items. Interactive cutscenes and quick button responses also accent this action-oriented title. Those who think this can't possibly be Resident Evil will be happy to know that not all the RE traditions have been forgotten. The typewriter is still here, as well as the herbs and the fact that you still cannot strafe or move during times of attack or reloading. At its heart, it is still very much in fact a Resident Evil game and one that could draw in players who aren't fans of the series. It's truly one of the best GameCube games available and a great way to start off this new year of gaming.

I just completed this game, and right now I am in a state of shock. This might just be my brain trying to accept all the blood and guts that have been spewed at it, but I still find it necessary to write a review. Throught 19 hours in the past three days, I have shot, hacked, burned, and pissed my pants through hordes of "zombies" This game is incredible, the realism in it has me trying to figure out what is real and what isn't. Capcom has created an alternate universe of terror and entertainment. I have never felt so pleased with myself for beating a game, and I want to play it again. So, i know i've been rambling, so ill leave it at this, Resident Evil 4 is and amazing experience that will grab on to you and not let go even after your finished. One more thing, THIS GAME IS NOT FOR ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 17! it is the most terrifying and violent game i have ever played, so I hope little Timmy doesn't find this under the christmas tree!
An excellent game for fans of just about any genre

First off, I would like to say that this is one of the most addictive games I have played in quite some time. There is nothing that is capable of tearing the XBOX controller and Halo 2 out of my hands quite like RE4. Capcom has apparently decided to revamp the Resident Evil series a little bit for this installment and I think that it was one of the best decisions they have made in a long time. The first thing that you will probably notice is the change in the view point that is given when you are aiming at an enemy. In previous Resident Evil games, aiming was tedious and running out of ammo was fairly common due to this dubious chore. In RE4 you are given an over the shoulder view with a laser site that is very easy to use. The next thing that you will notice is that this game relies less on scare tactics than previous games in the series and the action has risen tremendously. Diehard fans of the old series will appreciate the game's use of music (which is somewhat frightening on its own) to inspire fear in the player. The sound is amazing and the graphics are beautiful (as beautiful as blood splattered landscapes can be, that is). The bosses in the game are challenging, but not to the point of aggravating. Fans of the series will also like the fact that the bosses are just as disturbing and intimidating as they have been in the past. The game is packed with action from moments after the first cutscene comes to its conclusion and the introduction of new enemies and guns throughout the game keeps the game fresh and makes you want to continue playing into the wee hours of the morning. The dodge sequences are far from innovative but are integrated into the game very well and add some spice to the mix. Capcom has struck gold with this game and Nintendo will surely profit from the exclusivity that they will have for quite some time. This game is excellent, I would go so far as to say the best on the Cube. Anyone with a Gamecube should pick this game up immediately, don't wait until November for the PS2 version to come out. Personally, I think a Gamecube is worth owning if for no game other than this one.
Resident Evil still thrives in this refreshing new entry.

Resident Evil has grown infamous for help starting the Survival Horror genre of video games. Over the years each installment has added something new to the series while continuing to make each game progressively creepier. With the onslaught of Konami's Silent Hill series (which I also love), it was high time Capcom created another Resident Evil game. Although I did appreciate the remake of the original (which was less corny and scarier than the original PSX version) and the prequel Resident Evil Zero, I had still craved for a "new" installment. Resident Evil 2 was my favorite game in the series and we already got to see more of Claire in "Code Veronica," but I couldn't help but yearn for a game explaining what happened to Ada, why Wesker was still alive, and what had become of Leon. And while all those questions weren't answered, what we got is in my eyes one of the most refreshing new games in the series. Resident Evil is still Resident Evil, but with a lot of changes and probably the creepiest and most insane it's ever achieved. It's like the creators wanted to add a little bit of Silent Hill influence into the formula.
You play as Leon Kennedy from RE2, six years after the events in that game (yes, the first RE game to NOT take place in 1998!). He's now a CIA agent in search of the President's daughter, who was kidnapped and brought to some remote place in Europe. What he finds is a crazy village filled with possessed people who aren't "quite" zombies and a mysterious cult called the Los Illuminados, led by Lord Saddler. Leon also meets Luiz, a renegade who apparently worked for Saddler but cured the infection in his body (both Leon and the President's daughter, Ashley, have been infected with the new virus). This new virus is a morphing of the virus presented in Resident Evil Zero in which the host no longer decays and is still one smart cookie (oh yes, and one of the villains, he's sort of the "NeoTyrant" of this game). He must get her out safely before they use her as a "sacrifice" in which she would return fully infected to the United States, causing a worldwide infection and possible World War. Ada's also back, and she's after the new virus sample (and in case you hadn't played Code Veronica, Wesker is somehow still alive and trying to bring Umbrella back). That's pretty much the summation of the story, which is actually a pretty good one.
I can't really say much negative about this game. Capcom did it right, and here I was concerned that they would mess up like with Mega Man X. But no, not only did they make it scarier with the environment, they also made the enemies a LOT smarter. The zombies here will run at you yelling satanic curses in Spanish and we also run into some enemies that will fill your screen. At one point you fight El Gigante, a large Troll-like creature that was probably rejected from Lord of the Rings (haha), and at another you fight two simultaneously. And another boss you fight is a giant fish/sea monster thing. The list goes on and on. Capcom also put the camera behind Leon's shoulder so the camera view changes as you move, similar to Silent Hill. While I don't knock the originals for their set camera angles, I found this device much easier to work with in this type of game. Another aspect of the game that you MUST remember is to NEVER put your controller down during a cut scene. At times during cut scenes (and in particular, a knife fight towards the end), you have to press L+R or A+B simultaenously to avoid getting hurt or even killed.
You also don't automatically target like the originals; this one uses laser sighting on all your weapons. Speaking of weapons, there are various weapons in this game you can buy and customize (You'll love the shotgun in this game, especially upgraded). The game also utilizes a buying/selling system in which you upgrade your weapons and also buy new weapons along the way. A first for Resident Evil.
After completing the game, you can play a sidequest as Ada, in which she obtains some samples for Wesker, and a Mercenaries game which is like in RE2. I had found many pleasing reviews from most people and magazines and I am grateful to see that. This game adds a lot of new elements to the franchise, but also holds onto the elements that have made Resident Evil so enjoyable. This game is the most INSANE Resident Evil game yet, and is certainly a worthy addition to the legacy.
You CAN finish without a walkthrough

I was a complete newbie to the Resident Evil series until I bought the original and Zero for Nintendo Gamecube. I kept hearing the term "survival horror" being tossed around quite a bit and that does seem to describe these games. However, for RESIDENT EVIL 4, I feel a better label is "survival action."
There are no zombies, demons, hauntings, or other undead shennanigans going on here. Instead of an evil corporation releasing a virus to kill then reanimate blood thirsty corpses, a cult is using prehistoric parasites to take over the world. Eggs are injected into a human host, then the creatures take over the host. Upon maturity, the creature will emerge and the host will die permanently.
As for the game itself, graphics are great, sound is great, gameplay is great, story is great so far (haven't finished yet). The first notable changes are that your character can carry a lot more loot around with him. Forget 6 or 8 or even 20 blocks of inventory, you START with WAY more than that. And you will need it. There are more enemies, but they are all beatable. No situation is too dire, although challenging scenarios make take a few attempts.
Speaking of taking multiple attempts, in addition to saving at typewriters (no ribbon hunting necessary), at certain places inbetween locations or events, a checkpoint is created for your current game, so no need to go all the way back to a previous saved game each time.
You are a one-man war armed to the teeth, but DEFENSE is also beefed up. Stun enemies, and you can spin kick them away. Enemies corner you in a room? Leap out the window. Trapped in the corral? Hop the fence. Can't keep an eye on the girl and fight at the same time? Tell her to hide. Afraid of crows from the first game? Ignore them here and move on! (but they usually carry stuff with them)
This game is neither too hard or too easy. Seriously, if you don't know what to do at certain places, try the first thing you think of. Then the second. And third. Eventually, you WILL discover how to win.
Purists may not appreciate all the changes done to the format, but I don't care. This game fits in with the rest of the series like Die Another Day fit in with the James Bonds, like Aliens followed Alien, like Lethal Weapon 4; it breaks its mold and casts its own.
Can't wait to finish and start ALL over again

This game is indeed a milestone in gaming and worty of the
Game of the Year Award!!! Many reaons why, the graphics
were great, controls are improved, tougher enemies and
bosses and the whole new storyline with Leon Kennedy
and Ada Wong.
For $30.00 this game surely delivers the bang and then
some. The game boasts breaktaking visuals and indeed
it delivers. It promises tougher enemies and bosses and
it delivered that too. The Ganados were tough but some
of the other new enemies like the Regenerators, and the
El Gigantes are simply hideous and over the top!! Wow.
The plot involves Leon Kennedy , last seen from Resident
Evil Gaiden being recruited to save the President's own
daughter. Leon accepts but doesn't quite know what he's
getting himself into. As Leon you do come equipped with
every punishable ammo equipment in sight. Still the action
is always intense and you never see anything coming.
The sounds in the game are bonechilling, and the
overall look of the game leaves you inspired and satisfied.
"Te Voy A Matar" (I am gonna to kill you) sound echoes
from the enemies leave you terrifiedl.
No suprise then we see some of Leon's former friends,
Jack Krauser, Ada Wong make surprise appearences but
that's not surprising. I also loved the whole new plot
instead of the standard Umbrella zombie romp. This is
the best game on the Gamecube.

First off, let me say that I am 44 years old and this is my first time writing a review of anything. I've owned Resident Evil 4 for 1 year now. I bought it (for $20.00). That was the best $20.00 I've ever spent in my life because this is the best game I've ever played in my life. Still 1 year later I'm having fun with it. I've completed all the levels. I've gotten all the upgraded weapons. I've completed all of the Mercenary levels and the level with Ada. I now have in my arsenal the canon blaster gun, the automatic sniper gun, and the rocket launcher--all with unlimited ammunition. And, yet, I still play on. This game is so immersive. It is addictive. Plan on staying up past midnight on many nights and playing this game while everyone else is asleep.
It is such a rewarding feeling completing certain levels of this game. Hats off to the engineers and artists who designed this brilliant horror interactive story.
As much as I'd like to buy the Wii (which is currently unavailable everywhere I look) this game keeps me in gaming heaven. I don't mind so much going without the Wii, since I have Resident Evil 4--all is well with my world.
Dave R.
P.S. I can't imagine this game on the Wii. I think it would be physically exhausting to play.

I said to myself before this game came out, " I don't know how this game can be better than Resident Evil 2." That game was amazing, especially for it's time. It was and is a classic. A few years go by and the series continues to kick ass, albeit never attaing RE 2 proportions. The remake for gamecube blew my mind, the graphics...wow. RE 0 was a great entry, but not as good as the remake. Then I hear about a new entry to the series, RE 4. I was naturally very excited. A new Resident Evil! Awesome! Who cares if they haven't changed the gameplay formula since 1996? Man was I sorely mistaken! Before it came out there wasn't too many things being revealed about it, which didnt bother me. I knew it was going to be a little bit different, thats all. Playing RE 4 compared to any other game in the series is like night and day. First of all, THE GRAPHICS! O my god, did my gamecube all of a sudden become a high-end computer? They are truly amazing. Capcom, as always captured the atmosphere of the game perfectly. This is the best looking Gamecube title right now, and will probably stay that way. There are entirely new enemies in the game, and you need to watch yourself around them. These guys know their stuff. My favorite enemies have got to be the monks in the castle area. They are so errie! Also, the boss battles are some of the best in any video game I've ever played, hands down. They're ingenious. Everything is perfect on the audio side as well. The sounds of the various weapons are all dead on, not to mention the moaning and groaning of enemies. The weapon selection is surprisingly robust, but the series has always had a good selection of weapons. Overall, the only fault I can find with this game is the fact that at some point, about 18-20 hours, you beat the game. I didn't want the game to end. It was too good to end. Oh well, there's tons of replay value to this game, from the two mini-games to unlocking special weapons, hell, just playing the game though three or four more times. The only thing I dont have yet is that damn Hand Cannon, which I want dearly. If you have a Gamecube and don't have this game, what the hell is the matter with you! Buy this game right now!

I'm a hardcore gamer, I've been playing games since the tender age of 2, when my brother would go to school, I would game on his NES untill he got back and kicked me off, I've been playing ever since. This is not only the greatest game I have ever played, but this is perhaps the greatest game of all time. Compared to games like half-life 2, halo 2, god of war and metal gear solid 3, I would deffinatly say this game beats them all. I bought the remake of Resident Evil for the gamecube probably a year or so before I heard about RE:4. I played and beat RE:1, it took me awhile mostly because the game is pretty scary and at times hard to play. The original plans for RE:4 were to continue RE's notorious history of being a terror inducing adventure of running and conserving ammunition. With a well timed change of heart capcom scrapped their plans and started working on what is now their finished product.
Graphics: The graphics on this game are surreal, the best I've seen on gamecube, or any of the other platforms for that matter. That's all that needs to be said, if graphics are your thing you'll get your fill with RE:4 I give the graphics a 5 out of 5
Sound Quality: The ambience, noises, and music all add to the horror and suspense of the RE series, and RE:4 deffinatly shows. The music always nails the mood of story, wether your fighting off a legion of insane villagers (thats right villagers) or sneaking into a secret military base, the music just fits. As for noises and sounds, the game offers a wide variety of them, from the sinster growling of a blood thirsty hound, or the loud chopping and buzz of a chainsaw, all of which beautifully presented to you. It makes you feel like your right there in the midst of it all.
I give the Sound Quality a 5 out of 5
Controls: Movement in this game can be a little tricky, and will definatly take some getting used to, thats the worst that I can say about controls. RE:4 scrapped the original "Auto-aim" feature that RE followed for so many years, where you can aim up down or right down the center. Instead you now control where you shoot, you can move up, down, right dead center, to the side, anywhere you want. As well as the new aiming system they have added new button combination sequences where a button combination will appear at the bottom of the screen (either A+B L+R,or randomly shake the movement stick), these button sequences are often used in boss fights to dodge attacks, or to defend yourself agaisnt certain enemies. A quick-knife feature has been added, instead of switching between your gun and your knife in combat, you can hold down the right trigger and pull out your knife without having to waste precious inventory space to hold it. Everything else (for the most part) remains the same, hold down B to run, Press A to shoot. If you've played the RE: Remake for the gamecube, or RE:0 then it should be easy to get the hang of, if not the controls will come to you after a little practice.
I give the Controls a 4 out of 5
Gameplay: Where to begin, there are so many improvments from the original RE's, I've mentioned the quick-knife, the new aiming system, and the button sequences. Another new feature is a change in camera controls. No longer are the cameras set to one position, leaving you to have to move to the end of a hallway, or the opposite end of a room to see properly, the camera will now follow you around from a good distance, allowing you to see enemies behind you, but still letting you see everything with relative ease. Along with the new aiming-system instead of shifting into a first person view, capcom has invented an "over the shoulder" view of the action. Same goes with the knife. This allows for points to aim for like head shots or leg shots. It's a better alternative for people who dont like the first person view as much. The game has no more zombies, which makes the game less terrifying and more playable than the original RE's, but still maintains some of that survival-horror charm. Enemies now drop items like ammunition and healing herbs, so there is no longer a constant need to search and conserve your ammo. This deffinatly the increases the fun of the game. A merchant has been added where you can sell random loot and use money that you find off enemies to buy weapons, healing items, assorted power-ups, and a feature called "tune-up" where you can customize your guns to hit harder, fire faster, reload faster, or hold more ammo at a time. Some guns have special upgrades once all other upgrades have been bought. Your enemies are now smarter, they will be able to run, climb, surround, and even flush you out of your hiding spot. As well as the villagers and what, you'll be faced with different enemies, like Collimilos and Novistadors.(which strangley resemble the cereberi and chimaras from RE)They've replaced zombies with "Los Plagas" play through the game and find out what they are. The boss fights are challenging, and often require more strategy than simply shoot and run to defeat. A new invetory system has been introduced, instead of cramming a few items into 6 inventory slots, you now have an attache case with upgradable sizes. It has X by X slots in it, allowing you to carry all your goodies. Item's can also be placed horizantly or verticly to allow for more space. There are now more storage containers though, so you'll have to carry everything with you. To make up for lack of storage boxes, ink ribbions have been elimated.(YES!)You can now save your game without having to carry an Ink Ribbion to type with, though you still have to save at typewriters. The amount of changes almost makes RE:4 seem like it came from a totally different series. But dont worry, each change is for the better.
I give the Gameplay a 5 out of 5
There's a lot to be said about RE:4, to put it simply it's the best game on the Gamecube, whether you agree with me or not, and anyone who has a gamecube should have this game. Everything that I can say about this game is an improvement from its predecessors. It is safe to say that Resident Evil 4 is a true masterpiece of gaming, gameing at it's finest.
