This game is so good it's beyond words. When I play it, I forget I am playing a game, I am Leon Kennedy. When the chainsaw villager sawed my head off, I jumped off the couch and jumped up and down in fright. When i'm not playing this game, I sit there and think about it. The play control, storyline, graphics and replayability and difficulty levels is 100% perfect. Every owner of a Gamecube should have this game in their collection, whether you don't like Resident Evil or not. I don't even like the Resident Evil games because of the play control, but this is not even like Resident Evil. It's a whole new experience. There are so many varied enemies, weapons, and even ways to die, so far i've been stabbed, shot, crushed, beaten to a pulp, decapitated, blown up, stomped on, eaten, drowned, set on fire, cut into several pieces, and bitten to death. Seriously, buy this game now!

WE NEED MORE GAMES OF THIS QUALITY !!!

Resident Evil 4 is definitely the best action game ever created. Developed by the same team that created the original Devil May Cry which, was possibly the best action game on the market at the time. This team of game developers should be touted and, praised as Gods of the gaming world.
Resident Evil 4 goes above all expectations for what a video game should be on all levels. The graphics are unmatched. The gameplay is is addictive and, this game is remarkably long for a game that is so finely tuned. The voice acting is above average and, the cut-scenes are long enough to develop the story line but, are relatively short. Which, is a plus for someone like Me who doesn't like watching video games as much as playing them. This game also has incredible replay value. After, you beat the game the first time You'll want to start playing it over immediatly with all the goodies that you accuired the first time around. Plus, there are multiple mini-games to unlock that are a blast to play. This is more than just a must own for any mature gamer. This game is an instant classic.

One of the Best Console Games Available

I've never been a fan of the Resident Evil series so I can't provide the "this Resident Evil is better than that one" assessment, therefore my opinion is not as subjective. I can say, however, that RE4 is truly one of the best console games I've ever played-- definitely on the top 5 list for the Gamecube.

Playability is a 5. I found myself disappointed after I had beat the game, not because it was short (it took me some considerable time to do), but because I was done and I wanted to play more. It honestly is that great of a game, I've even started playing it again.

Graphics are top-notch and the atmoshphere created suits the mood of the story perfectly. When "El Gigante" is pulled out you'll find yourself right beside the character, Leon, in disbelief that you know need to take out this monstrosity. This game takes you in and along for the ride in entirety.

My only complaint is this game does not have subtitles and/or captions during clip scenes. There are many players out there like myself who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and it is incredibly frustrating when captions are not provided in games. About 25% of the American population has a hearing deficiency, that's 25% of the market the company is turning away and losing profits from. Captions and Subtitles should be mandatory.

Other than that one complaint this is an excellent game and a definite must-own.

Where was this filmed? Oh, this is a GAME?!?!?!?

Resident Evil. One of the most popular game series ever. Well, forget everything you know about Resident Evil, because Resident Evil 4 is here, and it is completely different. In the best possible, though. The aiming system in 4 is a lot better and more precise than before, and the graphics...oh, the GRAPHICS...they look like something out of a horror movie. Which brings me to my next point. This game definitely deserved the M rating, as it is one of the most explicitly violent and brutal video games I have ever seen. Also, though it isn't stated on the case, the game contains some language too. So, basically, this is the greatest game I have ever played, but it is NOT for anyone younger than 13 at least.

One of the best gamecube games!

First of all, this is the only Resident Evil game I've played. I don't know what the other games are like, but I'm sure they're fun. This has to be one of the most incredible games in history. It is hard to believe the graphics can be this good on the gamecube. The storyline is very interesting and makes you want to play constantly. The game is mildly long and has some scary parts. NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!!! The chainsaw villagers creep me out, especially the chainsaw-carrying women. In short, this is one of the best games ever. I consider it to be one of the fab four for the gamecube with Super Smash Bros. Melee, Metroid Prime, and The Wind Waker being the others. BUY THIS GAME!!! You will not regret it.

Believe the Hype! Survival Horror Begins Again!

This episode marks the beginning of a bold, new gameplay method for the Resident Evil series. RE4 is very fun, and most of the new game modifications are excellent. RE4 will please those gamers that are familiar with the series. Most importantly, the game should hook brand new players to the franchise.

Completing the main story unlocks the bonus missions. I'm going to have to rent the Playstation 2 edition of the game when it comes out later this year. (Only the Nintendo Gamecube is available now.) The bonus missions of RE have always been tough, but these missions are near impossible. That's because there is no set patterns for enemies, creatures can easily attack from behind, and dodging / countering attacks can be though. I'll need to use my Code Breaker with my PS2 if I ever hope to win the bonus missions.

Winning the bonus missions unlock special weapons. The good news is, you carry your weapons from the previous main story over to the next round of gaming. Thus, you don't have to win the bonus missions to get an easier main story experience.

Beating the main game also unlocks alternate clothing: Leon's RPD uniform, with Ashley in "pop diva" clothes (think Ms. Spears), and Ada in her bonus mission clothing. An infinite rocket launcher becomes available, but it costs 1,000,000.

Here are my positive, negative, and perplexing reviews. After that, I've scored key game factors on a scale of 0.0 to 5.0, with 5.0 being the highest.

POSITIVES
--No penalties for using first aid spray, multiple saves, or game time length.
--Various purchasable / sellable weapons, especially the rocket launcher.
--Several stages use the same gameplay mechanic in different ways.
--Very little backtracking, and puzzles aren't too hard.
--Combat knife has more practical applications, and it can be used on the fly.
--Characters remain in alternate clothing during cut scenes.

NEGATIVES
--Enemies can easily attack from the side or rear.
--Firepower upgrades seem to have little effect on the guns' performances. (The other upgrade types are useful.) Scopes for weapons are unnecessary (excluding the infrared rifle scope).
--Camera control (when not aiming) is limited.
--Button dodging during monster fights can be difficult. No strafing.

PREPLEXING
--Can not reload in weapon inventory, only during gameplay.
--Can not purchase ammo, only sell them (probably because enemies drop ammo).
--Stage with Ashley is surprisingly very brief.
--Villagers' heads don't always explode via "classic" single-shotgun-blast-to-the-noggin method.
--Ada Wong's dress is not something a woman would wear for combat.
--Why didn't the President send an agent that speaks Spanish?

SCORING
Graphics: 5.0 / Top notch environments. Alternate costumes in cut-scenes.

Sound: 5.0 / Music sets the moods perfectly. Creepy noises. Good voice acting. I've been told that the translation of the villagers is very scary.

Gameplay: 4.5 / Enemies attacking from off camera is thrilling, yet annoying. Inventory management can be time consuming.

Control: 4.0 / Weapon upgrades too expensive for such minor improvements. Dodging can be tough. Why is the c-stick camera so limited?

Fun Factor: 4.5 / Those bonus missions are too difficult. The shooting gallery stages are pleasantly challenging.

Replay Value: 5.0 / Replying the main game earns more money. You can try out new weapons. Winning the bonus missions unlock special weapons. The million dollar rocket launcher is a tasty carrot.

Overall Rating: 4.5

-LSDangerous
NOTE: I purchased the COLLECTOR'S EDITION of the game, which costs $10 more than the standard release. The game comes in a custom red metal case. The special edition includes a mini-comic about the Resident Evil mythology. It also contains a matted graphic print with certificate of authenticity.

God bless you Capcom

Incredible, amazing, put simply....You must play Resident Evil 4! It is not only THE best RE game ever, but it's simply one of the all time best game to come out this year. Resident Evil 4 is totally new and has Evolved. Unlike the rest of the RE series this one has NO ZOMBIES...YES!!! Finally, Capcom is starting to think. Capcom did an amazing job with this masterpiece. The game has no slow downs, no messy framerate, just raw flawless fun. Resident Evil 4 shines on one of the most succesful parts of the game and that is the gameplay. I won't go into detailed except that the controlls in this are just plain good. The new "No camera angles" is great and now we just see from our hero's back as he tries to save the Presidents daughter from these "things".

The games Visuals are just simply amazing. Everything from Leon to Ashley all the way to the boss battles. It's just incredible. The games visuals unlike most games never get messy or glitched up or nothing like that...In other words...Capcom did an excellent job bringing the breathtaking visuals to the Nintendo Gamecube. The new ability to buy Weapons and upgrades from merchants is a big help and is not a hard task to do in the game. Scattered through out the game is Pestas(money)and you need em' to get those weapons, you can also find valuables that can be sold to the Merchant for some good price. Besides the breathtaking visuals, level desighn and Weapons system, did I mention that these have some of the most incredible boss battles in a game? Some of the most memerable bosses are in this game and are just as good if not better then MGS3's bosses. From fighting the giant Sea monster all the way to El Giante. Some boss battles will have your mouth drop in awe...In other words...Capcom knew what they were doing..

Does the game live up to the hype?...YES. Unlike overrated halo 2 and GTA this game acctually lived up to it's hype(will for the RE gamers like me atleast)and is my pick of 05' game of the year! The game is not only Game of the Year Material but it IS one of the best games ever created...And it's a shame that this is only GC exclusive for a year...sigh : (

Lets just get to it

The good
-Amazing visuals
-real time cutscenes look great
-Some of the best Boss battles and some very hardcore ones too.
-20+ hours of pure terror and suspence(it took me about 23 hours to beat)
-Spanning a great number of 2 discs.
-The new weapons in this game are incredible
-The new ability to make your inventory bigger, buying weapons, upgrading ect is just another reason why this is such an amazing original game
-I agree with Gamespot...this is one of the greatest action horror games ever..

The bad
-Extreamly addictive...I couldnt let go of the controller for days until
-Only Gamecube exclusive for about 9 months...dang..Hopefully It won't be ablt to play it on Ps2... : )

Word of a warning to you, this game is extreamly addictive and it will you pull you in. Atleast for me it was...I couldn't let go of the controller, I even spend my whole weds from 3pm(when I got the game)all the way to 11pm....yes this game is extreamly addictive...Just a warning to you

Overall Capcom pulled it off, they hit the big, they..they...They made one of the best games ever made is what I can tell you. Resident Evil4 was at one point a tiring but Capcom told us in the beginning of the time REZero came out that RE4 would be a totally new RE game and they were right, new weapons, new story, flawless amazing gameplay and visuals, jaw dropping Boss battles, and the return of an old character. Lets put it this way...RE4 is absolutley flawless...a masterpiece and that is why I am giving this game a

5 out of 5 stars...

My pick of
Best Game of 05'...so far it is...

Lates

Now they're just showing off.

First off all, I know I'm only 16 and this is an M rated title. I don't care. I'm not the type of person who's going to go to school packin a shotgun cause I think that the whole school's a bunch of "non zombies". So anything Joseph Liberman says about gamers, is bull.

With that, Resident Evil 4 is an absolutely wonderful game. I'll start off with the basic premise. You play as Leon S. Kennedy, an American Agent who six years prior to the events of RE4 (which take place in 2004), survived the destruction of Raccoon City. Leon has been training as an agent to guard the President's daugher, and she just happens to have been kidnapped. So it's up to Leon to find her. But along the way, he hits a snag. The village he stumbles across is filled with crazed people, who attack him brutally and ruthlessly. They aren't zombies, like he's familiar with... so what are they?

The biggest difference between this game an all other RE games is the camera. Normally you had a stationary camera, which had an angle that changed when you walked into a different part of the room. But in this game, the camera is over Leon's shoulder, allowing you to see what's directly ahead of you. Only problem, no side or back view, but that just adds to the thrill.

Another big difference is the enemies. These are not zombies. Zombies were slow, stupid, and did nothing very interesting. These villagers, called the "Los Ganados", are cunning, quick, and do things that you might not expect. Like blow fire. Or decapitate you with a chainsaw.

I would also like to digress on the graphics a bit. This game is NOT for the light hearted. On several occasions, Leon will be mauled, bitten, crushed, strangled, decapitated, and cut in half several times over the course of this game. There is lots of blood, gore and some bodily fluids that look slightly out of place. If you feel sick at the sight of blood, do not get this game.

With that, the graphics in the game are gorgeous. Much better than any game I've seen (Yes, even Halo 2). The rain and water effects are amazing and same for fire, and yes, gore effects are very well made. Your characters have lots of detail, and during a certain event, Leon gets a scar on his cheek. This scar stays from then on in the game. That's impressive.

The gameplay has been renovated quite well. Instead of run, see, shoot. It's See, Run, Shoot occasionally. The enemies have a high level of intelligence, and will dodge your shots, surround you, and throw weapons, such as axes at you. And that's just the basic enemies. But you can aim you gun with a very well built laser sight. Aiming for the head can kill them instantly, while aiming for the legs can cause them to fall over. Certain events require you to dodge, or run, or kick, and that can be used via the Action buttons that appear on screen at the right time. It's glorious.

The story is wonderful. Six years since Raccoon City's Nuclear sterilization, the US Government basically shut down Umbrella, crashing their stock prices and such. They are as good as gone. The new forces in the game are powerful, intelligent and malicious. It fits well by giving a message about Bioterrorism during this day and age. I won't spoil anything after the premise however, it's too good to do so.

Overall, Resident Evil 4 has not only recreated the Resident Evil Series, but has set a new Standard for the Survival Horror Genre of games. Resident Evil 4 is fun, challenging, and most importantly, absolutely terrifying. Just wait till you meet the Regenerators. That's scary.

Best game ever. PERIOD.

I'm actually 14 but didn't feel like filling out the info. Anyway, in Resident Evil 4, you play as Leon Scott Kennedy, who you may remember as the star of RE2. The president's daughter, Ashley Graham, has been kidnapped and Secret Service agent Leon has been assigned to locate and rescue her. His search leads him to a small rural town in southern Spain, where the villagers are less than pleased to meet him. Apparently, they are controlled by parasites called Las Plagas, who are in turn controlled by Los Illuminados, the leaders of the strange cult. Your search for the missing teen leads you through a sprawling village, a massive lake, a monstrous castle and a desolate island. Along the way, you will meet many people, including the thought dead Ada Wong, new friend Luis Sera and cult leader Osmund Saddler. There are countless items and treasures, almost all of which you can use or sell to a merchant you meet in the game(about one per half hour). Leon can then use the pesetas(currency) to buy items, such as better weapons and a protectivbe vest, or upgrade the weapons he already has. The game is fast-paced and very hard. I consider myself a decent gamer and it took me about 15 hours just to beat the main game once. There are also tons of miny-games, including Assignment Ada, in which you infiltrate the island to recover 5 Plaga Samples, and The Mercenaries, a timed game where you kill as many Ganados(the main, most basic enemy) as you can. I think, however that this game is appropriate for any aged gamer that wants to play a masterpiece. If there is one thing wrong, I would say no co-op in the main game. Still, not a big deal. Resident Evil 4 is truly the greatest game ever created, and well worth the long wait from Capcom.
