Review based on Demo

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 10 / 15

I have been playing the demo and this review is based only on it, since this game will not be released until February, although I now live in Japan, so ill get it a bit sooner.

So far the game is amazing. The graphics are on par if not greater than the REmake or Zero. The demo takes place on a foggy looking day, and the atmosphere may not be as spooky as the night with zombies, but don`t worry that all changes. The enemy here is much smarter making the strategy different then any other RE game, in that you actually have to be smart about your shooting because they can duck and they will charge you in masses. The other great thing is when you do get a shot off they stumble, not like the zombie who keeps charging until you put enough slugs in it to fall over.

The camera being behind you is a new feature that I enjoyed. It still makes things a bit eery in that your following Leon and get his perspective.

I can`t judge much on story yet as the demo doesn`t go to far into detail but it is RE and it is Capcom, so Im going to put my money on the fact that there will be many twists and Im sure Umbrella will eventually show up somewhere in the game as well. As for all the die hard RE fans out there who are complaining because there doesnt seem to be any zombies last time I checked zombies were the rejects of the virus, basically a failed side effect so you`d figure after 6 years they`d improve upon their viruses and make some new types of monsters, Im sure there will be plenty for you to bite on...Just give the game a chance and remember every story has to move forward eventually otherwise it just becomes a joke, how can a company such as umbrella have so much power but cant figure out how to improve its products, or someone else doing it for them.

So until the full game comes out this is something to look forward to. It is intense and the new features such as breaking through doors, windows...and no real loading time is amazing. Overall I have a feeling this will be an amazing adventure for any gamer RE fan or not.

the first resident evil game i ever played was code veronica. it was horrible and i hated it. the controls just to move around were realllly annoying and the combat was awkward. after that i lost intrest in resident evil games. then i played eternal darkness which was supposed to be better than any resident evil, well, it was better than code veronica but still only "okay". then while one day in ebgames a worker told me that this resident evil 4 was a "10 out of 10 game". i took his word for it and i`m glad. i got to the second stage (chapter 1-2) and found myself dying, but i had no idea what i was doing, so i bought the strategy guide which helped alot. i had just been doing things wrong, not collecting all the items in areas because of fear, and having bad aim and running out of ammo. but even so, the first play through of this game was VERY enjoyable for me, but i died alot, like 30 times during my first play through, and it took me about 24 hours. the secong time i beat it, i needed no book and i beat it in 12 hours with 9 deaths. this game has alot of suprises in it and its very unique, graphics are amazing especially for the cube, sound is great, playablility and replayability are outstanding. and take this all from a 16 yr old girl. i highly recommend this game to anyone(atleast 13.).

One of the most anticipated games ever to hit the cube is Resident Evil 4. It took me 44 hours to beat it the first time. it was my first resident evil game and i am impressed. the gameplay was phenomenal, and the gore was enough to make it realistic without being excessive. The Game is incredibly difficult and offers a challenge to anyone, but be warned, you'll need a stomach of iron to make it through this game alive.

Boy was I ever hoping that the Resident Evil 2 movie was going to have Leon Kennedy in it. But to my dismay it did not. But I'm hoping, again, that the 3rd Resident Evil movie will!! Anyways, got off topic. One of the main reasons I got a gamecube was so I could replay all the old Resident Evil games all over again. Some may think it's a crazy move, but I do not regret it at all. Lets break the review down in catagories:

Graphics 5/5
One of the most important aspects of any video game is to use the platforms graphical abilities to its fullest. Resident Evil games, when on the PSone, were state of the art in this area. One of the reason it drew such a huge following. Resident Evil 4 does not disappoint at all. There is enough detail here to almost make your stomach ache. From explosions, to even the Leon character himself, it all looks flawless. On a downside, there are a lot of re-used enemies. Which is understandable. Since we don't have blood-soaked mindless zombies running around, it was a lot harder to create a vast parasite insane villager template.

Story Line 4/5
The first 4 Resident Evil games(including 0) were all based upon the evil Umbrella Corp and T-Virus outbreak. Resident Evil 4, however, does not fall under the same backdrop. Instead they descided to go with a completely different approach. Now I know some people are in total arms over this, but you'll have to admit, the T-Virus story really was starting to smell a little old. We do have a story that is somewhat similar though, just with a little more twist involved. I believe the whole Presidents Daughter plot is a rather laughable plause however. And Ashley is nothing more than a thorn in your side throughout the entire game, but it does make for more strategy while going around and blowing up Villagers and Monks. The main plot/storyline is writen not too badly. But hey, I wasn't expecting Oscar material here. So lets move on.

Gameplay 5/5
Ok, Resident Evil controls have always been a harmful virus in themselves. As we can recall, controlling on the PSone, and even the remakes were not an easy thing. They were stiff and the menues were really unpleasant. But since the overall gameplay has now changed to an Over-The-Shoulder perspective, the controller scheme also has changed, and it's for the better. Aiming is now done with a laser guided beam. Your items can now be managed more easier. And the map system has more important information on it. And don't forget the 180 degree turn is back! Very nice!! Also the machanics of the enemies are different as well. Now there is more stressful situations in Resident Evil 4 to make your fingernails really raw. Being trapped in buildings while being surrounded. Also having to protected Ashley is also a new factor. All in all it does play differently, but it's still feels like Resident Evil.
And finally, Resident Evil 4 almost plays more like a first person shooter that an adventure-style game. Therefore the action is more apparent and instense. Which is great!! More enemies to blast is what I've been waiting for.

Music/Sound 5/5
Traditional Resident Evil games have always been praised for their actual lack of music. Where the ingame silence and/or ambient sounds have always been more of a favorite approach than have a corny musical score blasting in the background. Resident Evil 4 is really no different. Ambient effects and sounds are the majority here. Only in certain situations will a background music take over. Mostly when fighting villagers or monks. The music that does play does sound good. As for the sound effects, who can't love the sound of a pistol being reloaded, or a shotgun being pumped? I know it makes my mouth water. :)

Overall 5/5
All in all, Resident Evil 4, even though it is a different approach, does warrant a definate purchase. Whether you will buy a Game Cube souly for the pure enjoyment of this game or not, is ulimately up to you though. There is a beacon of hope for PS2 owners though. Capcom has finally decided to release Resident Evil 4 for the PS2!!! But as good as the PS2 is, I'm doubtful it will be able to look as good, or run as smoothly as it does on the Game Cube. But I suppose we'll wait and see when it's released in November of this year.
Also, once you have completed the game, there are many other bonuses and features you can play though as well, increasing the replay value. Which is great!! So go and play this game, and do it NOW.

Resident Evil 4 happens to be one of the largest games ever developed. If you are looking to play survival horror, then RE4 is the new scream queen. RE4 breaks from convention like no other game has done to date. This is a huge leap from the traditional Resident Evil that we knew. No longer is there the Metal Gear Solid style running around a room with set camera angles. Instead we are given true 3D with a twist - a semi-first person third person integration that has never been done before. U.S. agent Leon Kennedy has been tasked to look into the abduction of the President's daughter and his investigation has led him to a mysterious location in Europe. As Leon encounters unimaginable horrors, he must find out what is behind the terror. RE4 boasts three huge level designs - a village, a castle and an island. Each level contains a vast network of areas that are all unique gaming environments including farms, valley camps, water works, kitchens, tunnels, cemeteries, storage areas, waterways, lakes with monsters, caves, churches, foyers, prisons, sewers, mazes, dinning halls, servant's quarters, hives, clock towers, mine entrances, furnaces, ruins, cathedrals and radiation labs. Several memorable scenes include laser grids like in the movie of the same name, a chopper shootout and a radiation lab with mutated monsters that can regenerate damaged tissue. RE4 has roughly seven hundred and fifty monsters to defeat with numerous boss guys, puzzles to solve and pieces to collect, including money that you can steal from the local village goons and spend on buying weapons and upgrades from a mystery hooded salesman that can be found near the various typewriter checkpoints. Like "God of War" and "Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy" RE4 uses mini-games (button combinations to perform unique moves at specific intervals) even during the cut sequences. It has an approximate playing time of 17 and half hours at the minimum. The way the gun is controlled makes aiming less than steady and so accuracy is hard to obtain without lots of practice. This is a good thing because it means that when a hoard of villagers are making their way towards you it is hard to get the kind of headshot placement that you need and so the blast reactions of the zombies ranges from toppling over, being blown aside, catching fire and of course, loosing their brains when you eventually get that headshot on target. It terms of headshots, RE4 redefines it. It must be seen to be believed. Also when a zombie is on the ground you can close in and perform a round the house kick that can crack open a few craniums. You can shoot down boulders from a cliff to crush bosses or blow up booby traps or a truck loaded with dynamite to take out a village lane cram packed with zombies. RE4 is quite graphically gory. Where previous entries in the series required you to actually perform hard manoeuvres like climbing ladders or jumping gaps these are instead replaced by action sequence and so make the game more fluid from start to finish and thus more enjoyable. The load times have been significantly reduced from the almost unbearable waiting periods that Resident Evil: Outbreak turned up with. It is hard though to say that Resident Evil has ever died. Capcom have always delivered. RE4 is maybe the best instalment in the whole series... if not one of best games ever made. 3D survival horror is here to stay.

Pros:
- Immense Game
- First Class Level Designs
- Headshots
- Story
- Multiple Characters

Cons:
- None

I just started to play this game and found it extremely addictive and completely immersive. With levels so real and crisp its definately only for the mature audience. Though some of you parents may think 'A mature person would play a game like this?', its more for the experience and storyline then the absence of any kind of moral worldviews besides the point that you can shoot anything and everytihng and see a cloud of blood. Sounding citical? I may be, but look at the stars i gave this title. The LOTR titles didn't even get 5 stars from me and they were critically acclaimed even by movie reviewers. This game has a phenomenal style of storytelling and always had me attempting to anticipate the next segment of frightening, on-the-edge action. With every new turn and every chainsaw rip, i found myself sitting extremely close to the television. Enemies of both human and relatively non-human type with the odd animal here and there, RE4 certainly has its tolerable diversity and surprises in both enemy appearance and activities. Again, this game is most definately not for anyone under seventeen, and some of you might think you (or your child) doesn't need to take advice from me or the small black and white box in the corner of the game box but trust me (and it) this time. Yeah you may have played RE before and the whole zombified enemies thing may be getting a little dry but rest assured, RE4's enemies aren't zombies, the action is so different its almost reality, and the fealing of complete helplessness (even when you have a pump shotgun in your hand) is so extreme, you WILL find yourself dreading the next open door even though your continually pushing the thumbstick forward. RE4 deserves, and warrants, all the hype that preceded it. The graphics are superb, fitting even for an xbox title, and the control is spot-on. The voice acting is worthy of cinematic awards and the sound allows for (for those who have it) Dolby Digital Pro-Logic II, for those who don't know what that is...basically, any game (or movie) that sounds as real as possible, has this effect. Portrayed in widescreen (Whether you have a widescreen TV or not), the environment is almost irresistable and full of lush and beautiful realism full of incredible particle effects...and ontop of that...the fire (a big critical flaw in many, many games- even HALO) lookes INCREDIBLE. The first time i released the pin on an incindiary grenade, i saw the flames and stared wide-eyed with my father watching it lip up over the wood and spread like...well...wildfire. :) So...to review...lol. RE4...awesome. Concept-Recreate the thrills and chills of the first RE game and impliment fresh action by making the enemies so realistic and reacting with the most superb AI rarely seen in any title. Graphics-10. Sound-10. Replayability...so far-8(events are expected, though there are some differences, but the fun-factor is still above most titles). Overall Entertainment Value-9.5

This is what video games are all about....believe the hype!

I had lost faith in my Gamecube and Nintendo before this game hit. It renewed it and then some...and then some more. RE 4 is a seriously intriguing, fun, amazing, gorgeous, smart game. It's the closest thing to a Hollywood blockbuster I've seen in a long time.

I've been a big fan of the RE series ever since 1996 when the first one dropped on PS1. Things were starting to get old after the 3rd one. Then the remakes came out which had the best graphics I've ever seen. Well, forget Halo, forget DOOM 3, forget any other console game you've ever played. RE 4 is the overall best looking console game of all time. My friend wouldn't believe me when I said that, especially since it's a Gamecube title. I mean, come on...Xbox and and even PS2 can whip up better looking games usually. He shut his mouth when I showed it to him. You can tell Capcom put a TON of work and love into this title graphically. Little things like Leon's hair, flickering fires, water reflections, reloading animations, weather effects (wait till it starts raining), so many others to list. The art direction is astounding too. No two places will look the same. It's just one piece of eye candy after another and it never gets old. The lighting is also so good and is used to maximum spook effect. All in all, an 11 out of 10 for graphics.

The sound is not lacking either. RE games are known for their bad voice acting but this time it's more professional. There's still some hamminess involved but it's appropriate. The dialog is intentionally funny at times too but not enough to pull you out of the serious darkness and spookiness of the game. Enemies shout at you in Spanish, saying things like "There he is!" and "Kill him!" "Death is life" chants some of the cloaked nut jobs. There are no moaning zombies in RE 4. Shrieking enemies, pounding beasts, slithering creatures all add to the surrealism and are done perfectly. The sound of a hatchet wizzing by your head definately makes you turn around and take notice. Just wait till the chainsaw dude shows up hehe.

Control is a big issue here. While not perfect, RE 4 has come a long way from the first one. A quick 180 turn can be done with ease and trust me you'll need it a lot. There's no straffing but it just doesn't fit with the game and it would detract from the suspense of not knowing what's around you. In real life you can't be aware of all things around you and it's the same here. Sometimes I wish you could move the aiming target around a little faster but I guess it only adds to the suspense/survival aspects. And like others have said, mapping weapon changes to the D-pad would have been nice but it's such a minor things. Even guiding Ashley around with you is easy and fun. Overall, the control is smooth, responsive and uncomplicated.

Ok so the most important thing really is how does RE 4 play? Like a dream baby, like a dream. You're not just wandering around shooting and blowing things up mindlessly. Sure, that's at least half the fun but there's more. Puzzles make a return but they are there for a reason and not just for the sake of having a rediculous puzzle. Also, during many cinematics and even during gameplay you will have to stay on your toes and push two buttons together to evade something or assist Leon or he will die. This really cannot be understated...it's a small thing but really adds to the game because it pulls you into the experience that much more.

RE 4 even has an RPG element in it's weapon and inventory system. You can level up any weapon in four categories. But you have to make choices. There's a lot of money to be collected and spent but you have to decide which weapons you wanna carry and of those which upgrades you want to make. Each weapon has it's own edge but you really can't carry around all of them and expect to get far. You have to manage your inventory strategically too as there are many items to be had but there's hardly ever a time when you find yourself completely out of inventory space.

The developers constantly put the player in new situations, new terrain, new ways to use your weapons. Just when you think you've seen the coolest thing ever they throw another one at you and say "Enjoy the ride" Some games have two or three of those moments but RE 4 is a rare title in which it seems the whole game is a series of "HOLY **** THAT WAS AWSOME!" moments.

The average gamer can finish this in 20-25 hrs. Good length for a game like this. Replay value is surprisingly high as you unlock two new modes upon first completion as well as higher difficulty levels. And you can play through using a different weapons set so it adds a new spin on the next go round. Add to that a cool shooting gallery minigame you can stop by at certain save points in the game. Here you can collect extras by getting a high enough score. Awsome.

The most astounding thing about the game is how it pulls you into it's world. It just oozes atmosphere from every crevice and corner. The environments, characters and bosses fights are genuinely amazing and well-crafted. There are definately some scary moments but mostly it's about suspense rather than cheap thrills. Slight spoiler here...when you first encounter a Regenerator lumbering down the flickering corridor, breathing like a half rabid dog, you WILL run the other direction and you WILL get goose bumps up and down your spine!

Don't be fooled by past RE games. RE 4 is first and foremost an action title and the action comes in spades. The survival horror theme permeates throughout but is not the focus. Sometimes you will be forced to retreat and regroup but generally you will be shooting first and asking questions later. If you have a Cube and don't own this game then you are doing yourself and the gaming community a disservice. Like Halo, it's a system seller. It does so many things right and brings them all together to create one of the, if not THE best, games ever. If the Gamecube will be remembered for only one title, this is it. Believe the hype, experience this game NOW.

Words will never suffice how much I completely fell in love with this game. The thing is that I have never played a Resident Evil game in my life and I have never desired to play one just until about a month ago, that's how long I've been wanting to get a hold of this game. Until I read a review of it in Game Informer who gave it a 10/10 and said it was phenominal. So I finally gave into the hype and tried desperately to get my greedy video game-addicted hands on it. The tricky part was that the only consoles I had was an Xbox and Playstation 2. And much to my delight they released a Playstation 2 version. Although every time i tried to rent it it was always out. So i borrowed by friends Gamecube to get that version.

Although when I first got this game I was not instantly in awe like every one else said. I was actually extremely frustrated by how hard I thought it was. But that was before I found out how to actually run and do that 180 degree instant turn around. Yeah I know that's pretty pathetic, but I really have barely ever played with a gamecube controller. So when I finally got the hang of it I started loving this grotesque, gory, blood spattered romp through the spanish village.

The overall feeling of this game isn't the normal jump out of your seat shock moments like the other RE games. It's intead replaced by a tense nail-biting feeling. The kind of feeling where you say to yourself "I'll never get out of this alive" I said that to myself as I was locked in a massive room against about 30+ cult members with only four shots left in my shotgun and a 9mm while trying to keep a frightened teenage girl alive. The protaganist in this movie is Leon Kennedy from RE 2 (Can't say that I've played that game) Who is sent to rescue the damsel in distress who just happens to be the presidents daughter, etc. I'm sure you know the story by now. Almost as soon as he gets to the village all hell breaks loose as he finds out that all the villagers seem to be in a this big conspiracy (which I won't ruin for you). The familiar stiff and slow zombies have been replaced by crazed and possesed Spanish villagers in this game. The enemy AI is very smart and aggresive in this game, they duck out of the way of your bullets and throw axes at you. What is cool is the hit detection. If you shoot them in the leg they'll fall to the grown, shoot em' in the face and they'll clutch their face and scream in pain. By the way the enemies seem to be able to take a lot of bullets in this game, it's almost like your shooting them with a pellet gun. Guess its just to make the game more fun. Also if you shoot them in the right spot or blind them you can approach them and press A to deliver a kick to the face. The coolest thing I've seen in a game was when I shot a cult leader to his knees and ran to up and suplexed him causing his head to pop off. As you fight your way through this gorefest you'll encounter some of the most ferocious creatures ever seen in a game. Two of the main boss fights would be the Del Lago (I think that's the name) which is a huge lake monster. And the El Gigante, a hulking beast with a bad temper. I gaurantee you that you'll like the fight against the lake monster the best. Don't think your alone on this trip, two of your friends will be Luis and Ashley. Luis is a cop from Madrid who somehow got tangled up in the whole mess, he seems to pop up every once in a while throughout the game. Ashley is the presidents daugher who is on your side a lot. Ashley is very helpful and her AI is very good. She sticks to you like glue, and if you turn around to aim the gun and she's in your way then she'll duck down to give you a clear shot. Sometimes she'll give you really helpful advice to stay alive. You can even make her hide in places while you clear the path ahead. Here's a breakdown of the game.

Graphics: Perfect. The particle effects, the facial expressions, and the overall look of the game is flawless. One more reason to immerse yourself in this game.

Sound: The voice acting is damn near perfect. The sound of the villagers screaming to their comrades in Spanish is crystal clear and realistic. Not to mention all the creepy sound effects throughout the game. I have to say the women who does the voiceover for Ashley does have kind of an annyoing voice, but its not that bad. I'll let it slide cause she's so helpful in the game.

Gameplay: After about fifteeen minutes of playing you'll poppin' caps in crazed villagers with ease. I love the whole 180 degree turn around, which is a great invention and can save your life a lot of times.

So even those of you who say you don't like horror games, you have to at least play this game for like twenty minutes and still tell me you don't like survival horror games. This game will reach out and grab you by the throat and pull you into a place that you never imagined could exist and show you things that you don't wanna see, but yet you'll still be coming back for more.

A Milestone of Gaming!

Now here is a game that will define this generation of gaming for years to come. Creepy environments, sadistic villains, crisp graphics, heart-pounding music, and tight controls all add to this fast-paced game that epitomizes the word "ACTION!" I always wanted to play the other "Resident Evil" games, but just sucked at them because of their awkward controls and sort-of-dumb puzzles. But this entry is one of the most user-friendly titles we'll ever get our hands on, and understands that gameplay is the heart of a great title.

GRAPHICS
---Yes, these graphics are simply stellar! Fire has never looked so real, water effects are fantastic, and the character models look eerily like real people. Also, some of these creatures and locations are unsettling with jaw-dropping detail.

SOUND
---The weapons will get your blood racing, as will the haunting moans and battle cries of your evil foes. The music is very fitting. I don't think it's as noticeable as some critics have praised the game's musical score to be, but that's because it blends perfectly within the game's context. The voice-acting is just fine. Leon Kennedy is perfectly cast, as the voice actor gives us a tough badass who spurts lines very few protagonists should even think of uttering. The rest of the actors' are just fine. Not forced dialogue or cheesy punchlines here.

GAMEPLAY
---The over-the-shoulder perspective couldn't be better. Gun combat is tight and always exciting. There is a mysterious merchant who shows up from time to time to let you sell some valuables and upgrade your weapons into effective pieces of hardware. If you think about it, there isn't much variety in the gameplay, as you basically shoot enemies and collect items. But hey, it's always great fun, and never wears thin. The boss battles are original, but aren't too tough to figure out. This is a game that throws you a little curveball, and gives you a loud cheer as you smack away a home run. This game wants to test you, and yet gives you the urge to continue the dark adventure. I do think the AI could be a little smarter about their collision with you. For example, there were a couple of times that I could just freely run by the enemies in order to gun them down from one position. But I suppose that if the AI were smarter than they are, the game wouldn't be beatable. Lastly, there are two words that I want new gamers to look forward to as they play "RE4" for the first time..."KNIFE FIGHTS!" You'll thank me later.

STORY
---Don't get me wrong...I love this game and enjoyed pretty much every minute of it! But the story is not that great to me. I mean, the President's daughter is kidnapped for what exactly? They don't really explain that very well. Ada Wong from "RE2" comes back, and inexplicably can perform outlandish acrobatics. For that matter, so can Leon as he flips out of second-story windows. I know this isn't supposed to be 100% realistic, but the physical reality that these characters inhabit can be a little too over-the-top sometimes. Also, the ending Boss Battle is awesome, but it's followed by an okay escape sequence, and a lackluster ending. This 16-hour adventure was not artificially lengthened, but has a mediocre payoff. Still, don't worry about the Story too much, because the gameplay will bring you more than enough thrills!

OVERALL
---I love this game. I think the Story isn't as good as critics and reviwers have claimed, but "Resident Evil" has always been more about the intensity and mood, not necessarily the plot. Because the action gameplay is a breakthrough in the genre, and is complemented by superb visual and audio presentation, I cannot recommend this game enough. "Super Mario Bros"..."Final Fantasy VII"..."Metal Gear Solid"..."Grand Theft Auto III"...you know what, go ahead and "Resident Evil 4" as one of those games that changed the standards to which greatness is acheived! We're gonna be talking about this one for a long time!

Talk about the reinvention of a series.

First off, I really like the Playstation 2 and its huge library of great titles. The X-box I like the best. I personally think it's the most well designed best looking system. The only problem keeping it down is its own huge library of games. I never bought the 64 and never planned on buying myself a Gamecube. But in the end I did, because damnit I'm a gamer and why not have all three systems. But really there was two reasons why I bought myself a Gamecube. 1-The Nintendo made games, Zelda, Mario, Metroid, etc. Lets face it. They consistantly make some of the greatest games out there. 2- the Resident Evil games. I was so mad when Capcom announced they were moving the series over to the cube after Code Veronica. I couldn't understand why they would do that.(besides the obvious being paid a lot of money.) And lets just say that I've gotten a lot of use out of the cube with just the resident evil games. But anyways, on to the review.

The graphics are superb, some of the best on any system or any game, which Resident Evil games usually pull off. But these graphics are better than the remake or zero. They're just incredible. The sound in the game is also top-notch. If you have surround sound like I do you'll hear every roar, bloodcurdling scream, gun shot as if you had been plopped right down into the middle of all the action. The lighting is also great and gives the game pretty of ambience. Voice-acting? There's plenty of that here, and surpringly its really good too. Past RE's have been pretty hokey and melodramatic in the story and voice-acting segments, and this game greatly improves on this. The controls are better than any past game and very responsive. The story is this RE is also really good since for the most part it ditches Umbrella and treads a different path, furthering the myth of the games. That's not to say Umbrella isn't in this game, it just takes a backseat to the real story.

The game takes place in Europe in a small Spanish village where things aren't quite right. The villagers are a little crazy, kind of like the infected in 28 days later, but not quite. They carry weapons, from sickles to axes to torches and chainsaws. Yes, good old cut your head off leaving a squirting bloody stump chainsaws. Turns out these people are infected by a disease located in this part of Europe called Las Plagas. The Presiden't daughter has been kinapped and Leon from RE 2 is looking for her. The story involves an old cult and a family with a sorrid history involving the cult. I won't say anymore than that though so I don't spoil anything.

Gameplay wise I'm an totally and incredibly blown away. When Capcom announced over-the-shoulder 3rd person and no zombies I almost wrote the entire series off for good. But let me tell you. Putting the camera behind the shoulder was probably the smartest move they could have ever made. It saved this series, because lets face it, things were getting a little tired and a little old. Yeah, each game was still good, but most of them were the exact same, except the characters enemies and locations. This new gameplay injects the series with new sweet adreneline that totally reinvents the game as a whole. Plus, this new feature fixes a few of the problems from past RE games. The camera problem, gone. Instead of it being predestined where the camera would be, leading to disorientation and shooting at bad guys you couldn't see, now you look where you want to look and see what you want to see. No more camera problems. Also the controls were somewhat annoying in past games. Not anymore. They work great with this new, more action orientated game, which it truly is. In this game you jump fences in escape, fly through windows to get out of trapped houses where you're surrounded, duck behind things to save yourself from thrown TNT and jump from rooftops to the ground or balconies to swinging chandeliers. There's so many actions you can do it really elevates the gameplay to some of the slickest action gaming you've ever played.

How about guns and enemies, because there's plenty of those. There is a huge array of guns in this game. Several different pistols and shotguns, as well as rocket launchers magnums rifles tmp's and mine sweepers. There's grenades bulletproof vests scope enhancements and stocks for some of the games. There's also an incredibly addicting RPG aspect put into this game that most people will love. You now meet merchants along the way that you can sell things to, buy weapons, health and treasure maps from and purchase tune-ups for your guns. You can now increase your guns attributes serveral times to make it even better, from reload speed, capacity, firepower, and how fast it shoots. And after you purchase all of the upgrades you can buy a special upgrade. This game also includes treasure that you can find and treasure maps you can use to find it. Combine treasures to make a nicer treasure and get more money when you sell it too the merchant. Most enemies usually drop either money or ammo or health too, which makes the game incredibly fast-paced. The enemies are wonderful. There's constant boss encounters that'll keep you sweating throughout the game. And they're not normal boss fights. They're the kind of fights that you only saw at the end of the other RE games. The normal enemies are crazy too, from villagers to monks and dogs as well as some really tough guys that you can only kill through special means. These guys are smart to. They formulate against, move and dodge when you aim at them. Sometimes they run and most times they just scare the crap out of you. That's one thing this game did that past RE's haven't been able to do, scare me. I about wet myself every time one of those crazy chainsaw wielding chicks came after me.

The levels are insanely well done. There's a castle, boat riding, a village and a mine and mine cart race. Mountains and a church as well as an island and an insane hedgemaze. You travel everywhere in this game and all of them are well thought, amazingly done locations. They're soaked in terrifying ambience with rain and fog. And ah, the wonderful 3D enviornments, they're so pretty.

There's a few puzzles but not many, since this is more of an action-packed game. Exploding barrels are spread throughout levels, the better to blow baddies up with. You have new actions where if you shoot a zombie in the head you can run up and push the action button to jumpkick them and any others around. Its a great way to save ammo and push a crowd back. Bad guys also react to shot points now. Shoot them in the arm and they spin around gripping it. Shoot them in the leg and they'll grab that or even fall down. In the head, they'll grab that too, or it'll shatter into beautiful red goo. Yes this game is gory, more so than past RE's, and that's great too. Cut-scenes also contain moments that are interactive, always keeping you on your toes, even when your supposed to be watching movies. Sometimes you might have to push L and R at the same time or A and B to dodge an enemies attack, which even occurs in-game.

Finally the game has lots of replay value. There's three mini games total, although one of them is in the main game as you play through. That's the shooting range, which is quite fun. There's also Mercenaries, like RE 3 where you're dropped in a level and have to blow that crap out of anything that moves in a certain amount of time. It's hard, really hard since you have to get a certain amount of point for stars to unlock the other four characters besides Leon, one of which is playable Wesker. And if you get five stars on every level with every character which is really, really difficult, you can unlock the handcannon the best gun in the game. In operation Ada you take control of Ada and look for some samples, playing through levels from the main game. It's also fun, and you unlock a tommy gun when you beat it. And whenever you go back and play through the game a second time you keep everything you had, which is really awesome.

So this game is by far the best RE I've ever played. It takes the series in a whole new wonderful direction and I can't wait for more entries into the series if they're going to be like this. The graphics, sound, gameplay and replay value are all beyond incredible. Go out and buy this game now. If you don't have a Gamecube, buy one so you can play this game. Right now, don't wait. Go.
