Geatest Expectation

Please read this link. This will give you some ideas what's going on in the world of SWG. This shows how they value more their money then the core internal of SWG.

JTL is the icing on the cake. The core game is in the ground combat. Everything was pushed back.

SWG is a good game, but it's mostly based on hope. A lot of players have envisioned it to be one of the greatest, but it seems the developers don't really care what the customers think (or the people at the high end don't really care forcing them to do things).

Definately Fun , But Buy it on Sale if possible

Alot of the problems that are being mentioned in the previous reviews deal mainly with Player Versus Player combat. You can be a Master Combat Class profession and when fighting against other Combat Professions (Combat Medic in particular) prepare to be slaughtered. (This is in PvP)

(That's what makes that aspect of the game unfun for many)

Player Versus Environment (Other NPC (Non Player Characters) Is fun, and is challenging up to a point. I've been playing since Nov 2003 and still find the game fun. (I am a Master Commando) Content is there if you look for it (there are tons of websites that detail all the missions you can take and the rewards)

Bottom Line I'll be staying with the game and will be buying the space expansion. The same people on the forums that are screaming about delaying SPACE are the same people that screamed about not having SPACE in the first place.

Definately pay as you go, paying no more than 3 months in advance.

Also remember that until this expansion comes out (In October 2004) then any review will be about the core game.

A great many people find the game fun, but your fun will only last for so long. I just hope the Space Expansion is worth the wait.

Customer Service for me has always been good. Any issues I've had were resolved promptly by the CSR.

Hi, i have been Beta testing this game it is a very good expansion, there are a few thibks they could work on such as letting rebels use the the ship similar to the millenium falcoln, but besides that and a few other things it is pretty good and space travel is pretty smooth. i say if you own star wars galaxies this is a must buy.

You should play the beta before dissing...

I have been playing the beta of Jump to Lightspeed for several months now, and I like it. It is not perfect, but it is alot of fun. I see great potential, once the original and JTL are together. The spaceships are fun to fly, and space itself is beautifully rendered.

This game has potential - and that's all it ever will have.

The original title that this expansion pack gets stacked onto, Star Wars Galaxies, continues to have some basic problems with professions - problems that have existed since SWG's launch. And the Development Team seems not at all motivated to correct long-standing issues.

Jump to Lightspeed (JTL) has seen a lot of Development work, so much so that SWG (or as it's commonly referred to now, "the ground game") has been nearly forsaken so that work can be done on Jump to Lightspeed. A lot of important and necessary changes to SWG have been pushed aside, or back in the schedule, due to Jump to Lightspeed. Important and needed changes, like a major combat system overhaul (so one person, alone, can't go out and kill about anything in the game with relative ease), have been pushed back again and again.

Or what about Smugglers, like our good friend Han Solo? Shouldn't a Smuggler in this game...I don't know, smuggle something? Well, they don't. And it sure doesn't look like they'll actually be doing any smuggling anytime soon. They've remained in their current state since Launch in mid 2003, and after multiple attempts by the Dev team to make their lives difficult, they finally succeeded by screwing up Smugglers' crafting/item modifying process. Oh, and they still haven't fixed that - nevermind the fact that they said they wouldn't screw up the Smugglers' crafting/item modification process on several occasions. They even had a "mistaken" note about the change going Live, then said it wouldn't, then they just slipped the change in a month later anyways. Nice work, Devs. Very shady.

What has this to do with JTL specifically, you may ask? Since it's been said that JTL will be integrated with SWG, it's more than obvious that JTL players will inevitably be involved in the "ground game" regardless of how much they try not to be. Given that SWG is still bug-ridden and has broken professions that remain since Launch day in 2003, does this bode well for JTL? Will things be as broken for it, one year on? I would say yes. Will the broken things be major pieces of the game, like professions? I would say yes, given that's how SWG has existed for over a year now.

The Development Team has promised lots of work done on SWG once JTL is released - highly, highly optimistic, given their track record of bugs in this game.

I would imagine that the Development Team for this game - rather than having one bug-ridden and development-intensive game - will very soon have TWO bug-ridden and development-intensive games to fix up. If they couldn't do it right with just one, how will they handle TWO at the same time...don't think so.

Recently, Dancers and Musicians had a new Entertainer Quest put in the game - which the Development team never bothered to notify the playerbase about. A new dance and new song were given to the Musicians and Dancers for the first time since Launch. The new dance has a broken base step (between special moves for the dance) which is broken. Forum posts regarding the broken dance were ignored. The broken dance went into the game anyways. The original date of release for the new dance and song came and went, without it ending up in the game, and without word as to when it would show up in the game. 3 weeks later, with still no word, the Quest showed up in the game and the dance was still broken. What kind of service is that for $15 per month? Why was valuable input from the playing population ignored and why was there zero communication from the Devs regarding this - to the point where they couldn't even be bothered to tell players this new content was in the game at all? Most Entertainers now have no idea they can get a new song or dance.

My advice, wait about a year or two and see if this game is still around before plunking down the dough to start all this up. Jump to Lightspeed, by then, will probably have a lot more to offer, and will probably be a totally different game than it will be when it's released now. Given the Dev Team of this game's history, don't expect much before at LEAST a year goes by. Even then, consider waiting another year.

Worst MMORPG on the planet.

I will try to be forthright and succinct with this review, as I've already wasted enough time playing this sorry excuse for a game.

Truths that the 'fan boys' refuse to acknowledge or share:

(1) - The Combat Rebalance is not solely about PvP, and was never defined as being anything other that it is: a 'fix' for the flaws inherent in the fundamental design of the game. This rebalance was supposed to bring back into 'balance' all manner of things: armor, buffs, chef foods, spices, weapon certifications, creature/mob strength, etc. Anyone who tells you that the Combat Rebalance was only about the PvP game obviously hasn't been following the game very long. The PvE game is not even a challenge currently, due to the massive imbalances inherent with the poorly designed combat system. Only an ardent SWG fan who has never played any other (better) MMORPG's would ever find combat in this game stimulating, engaging, or fun. Most of the time, you can walk away from your keyboard in the middle of combat, go make a sandwich, come back ten minutes later, and not skip a beat: this game is about as challenging as Pong.

(2) Lies and Mismanagement - The developers clearly lied to their player-base in regard to the scheduling of the Combat Rebalance. Initially, the combat rebalance was announced around Publish 6, with the declaration that changes would occur over the next couple of months. At that time, the Creature Handler profession was 'nerfed', new weapon certifications were added, etc. It was only AFTER a couple of months had passed that the dev's announced they were going to push the rebalance back to publish 10. Many people were upset about this (especially Creature Handlers, who had been weakened since the previous November), but people resolved to stick with the game.

After a few more months passed, it was finally announced that the Combat Rebalance wasn't going to happen at all until after JTL (which means next year), and then the developer's promptly claimed that never promised anything at all (even though Creature Handlers were 'nerfed' last November, Jedi dev's talked considerably about saber multipliers in preparation for the rebalance, new weapon certs were put in game, etc.)

The main problem, however, is this: The developers FAILED to inform their gaming public of the combat rebalance schedule changes until well into July of this year (and only because they wre forced to), clearly indicating that they wanted to keep people playing by 'stringing them along' with false promises. The truth, of course, is that SOE moved their developers to working on the JTL expansion, instead of fixing the hopelessly broken core game. Most of the people who were ready to quit in December of 2003 were only playing because of the promised Combat Rebalance. After the truth was found out, however, these people (most of them Community Leaders) promptly left the game in disgust.

After being with a game for a full year--a year of constant back-peddling and empty promises--these people had no choice left. They were a 'calculated loss' for SOE's management team, nothing more.

(3) No Content - This game has no content worth your time. It's one giant 'grind-fest' with absolutely no purpose aside from hoarding millions of credits. Instead of working on the fundamental flaws with the game (lack of content, combat balance, economy balance, etc.) the dev's continue to add worthless, lackluster, uncreative 'content' that no one ever wanted in the first place. (Again, if you have not played any better MMORPG's, you may not see the obvious lack of depth in this game.)

There apparent re-vamping of the Jedi profession--a revamp that no one asked to be so needlessly complex or elaborate--has shoved all other players (the majority, non-Jedi players) to the curb. Unless you are playing a Jedi character, the current state of the game is abysmal. Jedi characters rule everything in this game currently. Thus, the only players who have gained anything over the last year are the holo-ginders: the very players responsible for ruining the game's economy, immersion, and GCW in the first place.

Without a doubt, this is the worst MMORPG on the face of the planet. SWG may have had potential, but ultimately its inept design and poorly constructed advancement system has buckled under the weight of so much abuse. This game has nothing of interest for the seasoned MMORPG'er. More than that, though, you have to feel sorry for all of the rabid SWG fans who continue to play this game: (1) Because they are misguidedly hopeful, and (2) because this is their first MMORPG game experience, many of them just don't know how 'broken' and ridiculous this game truly is.

Sony Online Entertainment's Combat Upgrade Ruined the Game!!

I just bought this game ONE month ago, having spent about $80 for the Empire Divided (starter), Jump to Lightspeed, Jump to Lightspeed Stratagy Guide & monthly subscription. After only having played a month, the company has totally made the game I purchased nothing like the game I purchased. Not only that, the conduct of Sony Online Entertainment has been totally unethical in their approach to the outrage of players towards the major bugs and errors in the "beta" that is the Combat Upgrade. While reading the forums on the Star Wars Galaxies website, I and others noticed that certain peices of the forums were being deleted/removed- mainly all of the player complaints about the game!!! Also, I and others have noticed that there have been some rather coincidentally placed glowing reviews of the Combat Upgrade on these same forums, most likely written by SOE employees themselves. I and, when I last heard, 46% of the players of Star Wars Galaxies have already canceled our accounts. My oppinion is that no one should buy this product any more since it is no longer what it used to be. I recommend looking for another online game by any other company besides Sony Online Entertainment.

Yes... We have played the game...

To those who rate this game highly, despite their lack of play, to "even out ratings" before release... Yes, we have played this game, it's called a BETA TEST, and, JTL is the same old SWG grind in space, its boring, and unless you are a current SWG player and you have a lot of time to waste, stear clear of this one!

'Combat Upgrade' has killed this game, do not buy

See other recent negative reviews here, it is all true. Note that All positive reviews were posted before 28th of April 2005.

It looks like SOE is intentionally killing this game, otherwise I just cannot explain this insanity.

I have been badly scammed by SOE. I bought SWG on 2nd of April together with JTL expansion. I paid good money for it. It has great online experience until they killed the game. I paid for the game and was able to enjoy it only for 25 days.

Luckily, I have not paid for annual subscription. There are reports that SOE has refused to issue partial refunds even to customers which have annual subscriptions.

A few days ago Sony Online Entertainment has rolled out a so called 'Combat Update' to live server. This combat update is in fact a major downgrade which is dumbing down the combat system so much that it is just not suitable for any intelligent person over 11-15 year old. This is the essence of this action. There are also huge number of bugs, which are touted as features by SOE development team which effectively has ruined gameplay for virtually every profession in game and also causing mass cancellation of players accounts and consequently crash of player run in game economy and than inevitable death of this game.

My personal playing experience after the Combat Upgrade (CU) was horrendous. I did take effort to learn the new game, yes it is completely new game now. However, it is just not fun. What worse I have already felt in love with the game as it was before and with Star Wars universe as it was portrayed in the game before the upgrade.

They robbed me and broke my heart!!!

Most players which I have interacted with after this atrocity canceled CU are very strongly oppose this CU. You should realize that many people spent literally thousands of hours playing this game to build up their characters. It is all gone now. There are facts that complete guilds up to 50 players have disbanded and canceled their accounts. There was a word among veterans to stop helping new player in the game in any way, which in combination with lack of any decent documentation from SOE will not make new players happy, I can promise you that.

All my friends in game, all without a single exception quit the game and I do not see them online anymore. I have canceled my account as well after 3 hours of trying to play this new game.

Fact of the matter is that about 80% of testers of this Combat Downgrade were saying that this is the death of the game as we know it. SOE have chosen to ignore it and simply remove polls with these result from website. Moreover, I personally witnessed how SOE consistently were removing all negative posts from discussion forums. However, about 12000 people have already voiced their opinion about this issue on http://www.swgpetition.com/ . It is something you must read before buying this game or anything involving SOE.

Stay away from this game or any expansion or any other products where SOE is involved in any way. I personally, do not have any respect for LucasArts who is publisher of this game anymore. LucasArts seems to unable to defend its brand anymore if they allow such atrocities.

There will not be a single penny spent by my household to any products involving either SONY or LucasArts never ever again in my lifetime!!!

The game WAS good, but they've gone and Killed it

SWG was the greatest MMORPG I had ever played at first, but not so any more. First, The creators of the game Ignored what the Public wanted. Then, when they showed us what they were planning to do to the game, they ignored the public outcry. And finnaly, when they forced it upon us, they ignored and forcefully suppressed the screams of horror. The Creators of the game have destroyed the features that made SWG stand out and be special and replaced them with a nonfunctional unplayable combat system. Don't buy this game, you'll be wasting your money.
