People should play the game before they review it.

This game is a lot of fun. It actually enhances the original game and gives reason to go back to playing on the ground. Of course you don't have to play the ground game to immediately jump into space combat. Right after I installed it I launched into space and ran my first mission to destroy 3 tie fighters (go rebels!).

I don't care if combat on the ground is balanced or not, or if my profession is broken. For now I will fly around blasting tie fighters out of the sky while they fix the stuff on ground.

I can join my friends in their non combat space yacht, man the turret while my friend flies his Ywing, and hopefully have a huge ship with an interior as soon as I can afford one (by the way you can make money in space, you don't have to go hunt on the ground for cash). Don't listen to what these people "assume" the game is like, listen to people who have played... like me!

this game RULES!

This expansion pack kept me in the game longer

I have been a long time fan and regular player of Star Wars Galaxies (since game launch in 2003). That's a long time to play one game - especially for a professional adult (who actually has a life outside of work and the game) - but hey this is STAR WARS!!! I was about to quit the game (I had been playing for a long time already and thought I should try another game) but then they came out with Jump To Lightspeed. I love it! No game is ever perfect but I have to say this expansion to Star Wars Galaxies is a GREAT addition to an already great game. This game is great for young people AND adults (particularly Star Wars fans from the 70's).

Ready for release

Ok I've been playing SWG since beta and bought it on release. Yes true there were some bug some were major and MOST were minor. But If you had seen it in beta you would have put it on the shelf in a week and never touched it again. The Devs are constantly working to balance out the game. just like anything else this takes time and even the best programmer can't forsee that a change won't break something else. I plan on getting JTL on the first day. It will diffinately add to the game and I'm not going to be surprised if there is a bug or too. After all it is just so easy for someone to sit here and make a comment about how crappy a game is because of bugs. When they have never sat in the programmers seat.

Ok Bought it playing it and am loving it. Is it perfect No but no game ever is otherwise game developers wouldn't be putting out patches. So don't Knock it unless you have actually played JTL.

A must buy for space combat sim fans!

Jump to Lightspeed is virtually a game of its own. Flying starships is fun. It's like playing X-Wing Alliance or Tie Fighter, only better, as the graphics and ship models are absolutely beautiful this time. And you can play Jump to Lightspeed with only a minor interaction with the ground game since space missions and loot you get after blowing up other ships in space are more than enough to make character growth rewarding.

All in all, this expansion ins't just for existing SWG fans, but also for those who love the classic X-Wing series of space combat flight sims as flying is completely action oriented. Even if you hate the core game, this is still good, and who says you still have to play the ground game anymore if you have JtL?

Update (Oct 20)
Been playing the beta for some time now. The game is getting better and better, especially the flight controls which is more refined than it was a week ago. A lot of mission bugs have been fixed as well. And again, you don't have to interact with the ground game much if you're a pilot other than talking to your trainers to get missions and puchasing/selling stuff from/to other players, or finding someone to get rid of battle fatigue and heal your wounds; but again when in space wounds and battle fatique don't have much effect on your ability to fly. You only need to stay on the ground if you want to be a shipwright, and that's probably what you'll want to do if don't like the simulation aspect of JtL. Finally, get yourself a joystick if don't already have one.

I love this game

I love Star Wars Galaxies and the beta for Jump to lightspeed is great. I know there has been some negative reviews here but I can not name one game that is more fun then this. I play with my friends who i haven't seen in years from across the country. You can't make everyone happy in a game this HUGE, but I am one of the happy ones. Jump to lighspeed is going to be great and i can't wait until it goes live.

Excellent game, if your a Star Wars fan.

All right, if you're a Star Wars fan and you have $15 bucks to spend a month then I would recommend you buy this game.
This game is great because it puts you right in the middle of the Star Wars universe. That's it, that is why this game is great. If you want to hop on a starship and go to Endor to visit the Ewoks you can. If you want to go visit the ancient Jedi runes on Dantooine you can. If you want to go the far reaches of space to battle some of the best pilots in the galaxy (though it takes awhile time to get to that level) you can.
Now this game is not for everybody. If you like fast pace games like First Person Shooters than this game is probably not for you, but if you are a true fan of Star Wars that is willing to take some time out of your day, you will probably love this game.
However, if you are want to play this game because you like to play MMORPG, this game isn't for you. Play Everquest or Final Fantasy and stop bashing this game.

BEST GAME EVER MADE!!

If you notice, most of the bad reviews here were made by people angry that SWG went through a revamp or Combat Upgrade. However, the original game was a patched up Frankenstein. The only way to set things right and get it back on track was to tear it down and rebuild it. Lets face it, the original game was always labeled a "big flop" in the gaming community. It took them two years to write a new verison and publish it. It is actually a smart move to re-launch then to fix a bad game. Most of the very angry people are those who stayed with the bad game and put a lot of time into their characters, only to have a new game forced upon them. I can understand that anger. However, I thought the original game sucked and left after six months. I have since returned after the CU and see that SWG is now on the right track and "fixed" like it always should have been. So, yes, many people will leave from anger or fear of change. However, more will join, and a few more will come back. I talked to a couple of newbies last night who got the game after watching Episode III and they absolutely love it. You see, they don't have the baggage of someone who started 2 years ago and see the game for what it was intended to be.

Understand why the people here are angry, and rightly so. But, also understand the new game is very good if taken not as an upgrade to the old, but as its own game.

Great Game. A good improvement for SWG

I find this expansion great. It is one of the things that was missing from SWG. I recommend it.

Considdering that the CU didn't particularly affect space all that much (just added reticles over everything and smaller groups), I shall focus on JTL itself.

In JTL there are three pilot professions that cost 0 skill points to go into, though you can only be in one pilot profession at a time. They are the Privateer, Alliance Pilot, and Imperial Navy Pilot. Each Prof. gives access to different ships and droid programs. Don't worry, while you can't use other prof.'s ships, you can have them burn disks for you to use other their droid programs, which are extremely helpful in fulfilling your pilot career. There is also the Shipwright Profession, a crafting prof. that's all about making ship parts (including Chassis). This game also gives more of a use for the Droid Engineers as ships can use Nav Computers or Astromechs for droid programs.

You outfit your ship with components that you either loot of of enemies or buy at vendors. I won't go into too much detail on this aspect, but there are ways to make looted items better (just ask your local Shipwright). The trick to outfitting your ship is that you are limited by how much Mass your chassis can hold, and everything has to be balanced around this. It's actually quite fun to try to find the perfect combination of component stats to fit onto your pretty low mass TIE ships (heehee, yup, Imperial here). Anyways, I think it's fun, and if you like starfighter simulations, this one is pretty decent (especially since you can customize your ship's appearance and it's parts loadout).

As a side-note, with the recent Expansion Rage of the Wookiees, they introduce several new ships to pilot, amoung them are Anakin's Jedi Starfighter (Eta-2 Actis Interceptor), the ARC-170, and other interesting bits (Imperial Guard Interceptor, Heavy X-Wing, etc.). Yes, you can only get and use these ships with RotW, because the quests (yes quests) to get them are in Kashyyyk space/on Kashyyyk itself. So, have fun!
