The latest "upgrade" that SOE calls it's "Combat Upgrade" falls way short of any meager expectations. The patch itself was pushed out early in order to capitalize on the upcomming release of EP3 and to coincide with an expansion called "Rage of the Woookies."

The number of bugs and inbalances introduced by this so called "upgrade" has just ruined the game. The SOE group wants it's current customers to play test the game for them. It would not be so bad if they were paying us to do this; but, instead, we pay them. I have cancelled my subscription for this game for the time being. I have hope they will soon realize what they have done to alienate their cutomer base and will make appropriate changes.

Bugs, exploits, and more bugs

Do yourself a favour and avoid this bug ridden game for at least a year. Why a year? By then most of the glaring exploits will be handled.

If you want to fly a spaceship in an MMO, try Eve Online. If you want to play in the Star Wars Universe, try any other LucasArts product.

Spend your Money Elsewhere.

I am a Star Wars fan and had been a subscriber to Galaxies since 6/26/03. Today my account prepaid for 1 year officially expired.

There are a few issues for you people interested in buying into Jump To Lightspeed.

The first negative is you will need to buy Galaxies and setup an actual account to play the expansion. This means you are buying the ground issues that have already been hit on in other reviews. You will suffer through those issues even if your only desire is to play the space combat role. Ships require credits, to get credits you have to do the ground combat, and they require maintainence from usage once again tying you to the ground system. DO NOT TAKE THIS LIGHTLY. It takes many, many days of ingame time just to get good enough to make any money ingame. The economy is extremely out of balance for new players joining. Before you ever get to fly that X-wing fighter you dreamed about you will suffer through extremely long and boring "grinding" sessions where you repeat the same activity over and over again.

The second issue has to do with the fact that I do not expect this to be a better all around star wars flight simulator then what already exists on other gaming platforms. In fact because skill trees are used to determine your skill I think it will severely hamper you from fighting and using your superior hand eye coordination. It will turn into a grind to get "XP" so you can do a special loop that avoids 90% of all attacks. You will spam the same combination attacks and it will be just as inferior to every game that has combat systems out today. Play Battlefield Vietam or 1942 if you want online combat. Also take note that a similar game for star wars is coming out where the soul focus is fighting like BF 1942. If fighting and flying is your game do not bother with this.

Roleplaying? If your a roleplayer good luck. Jedi are always OOC on Tempest. Few ingame events occur and the promised monthly story arcs have been suspended.

Graphically its a beautiful game, and most players are fabulous. Potential is there. Wait another year till they work out the bugs.

Die all SWG JTL haters!

Ok lads, now loadsa people have been screwed by what they expected from SOE in the original SWG. But, I've got Beta by the way!, this is a great game. It isnt perfect, but is any game? The graphics are some of the best i have eva seen in a flight simulator/space simulator. It reminds me greatly of Xwing alliance, which was brilliance. I'm a privateer but my friend is a rebel pilot, so we see most of the good ships. Missions are rewarding, fun and involving although tediously repetitive sometimes. I do pride myself on being an awesome pilot, so I am at an advantage, but for those sad saps who had to rely on RPG skills aka the pc doing the work! I can say, learn to fly well or dont buy this game.

When it comes down to it, we have been given something to help us get involved in the Star Wars universe. If ou aren't a Star Wars fan and bought the game only to complain about it, then you are a ba*****!!! Any true fans of Star Wars will know that the Star Wars universe is a place of problems, rewards, scandals and great beauty! So enjoy this game before the evil gits who hate it shut it down!

I'm not supposed to say this, but anyone interested in whether the decimator and firespray and the Nova Courier are in the game, I'm not gona tell you! Joking, they are! but only at master!

A worthy addition

Considering I've been playing the ground game, Empire Divided for 5 month's already, this is well worth considering for purchase. I mean what is Starwars without the Millenium Falcon or TIE fighters. I've played the BETA version and I give this expansion a 2 thumbs up.

Same Boring Grind.... In Space

JTLS is the same game that exists on the ground. Non-emmersive, pointless grinding. You can master pilot in ONE WEEK. After that, its just like on the ground. "What should I do? There's no high-end content." (besides PvP, which isnt for everyone)

Yes, there is a Star Destroyer which is very cool, but the bottom line is that JTLS is not enough to save Star Wars Galaxies. They are far too focused on short-term profits, and fail to realize that the long-term gains of releasing a completed, and mostly bug-free product (like WoW) outweigh the short-term profits of releasing an expansion on an already broken game.

SOE keeps lying

Hi, I have been playing SWG since July 14th. Lately I have been very angry at SOE. They just announced that they were going to use our monthly fees that are SUPPOSED to fix the main SWG game to pay for the development of JTL! This is totally unfair! I pay the subscription fees so they fix bugs in the main game which have been in the game ever since launch!

They have continuaaly lied to us. During beta they said that speeders and player cities would come with the game when the game launched. The player cities and speeders didn't come out until a few moths AFTER launch.

Remember the hat that imperial officers wore in the star wars movies? Well guess what, it's in the game but we haven't been able to wear it since launch! Just before they diverted our subscription fees to JTL they devoted the past two publishes to the jedi. So instead of the jedi being rare like they are supposed to be during the main game's timeframe, there are jedi running around all over the place killing declared faction players.

Do not buy JTL because SOE screwed us by making the swg subscribers pay for development AND pay for the expansion! So that means the players have to pay almost twice the price!

sorry

I may have done this twice but I am not sure. Anyway. This game is makeing the original into a big stink pickle. SInce you have to buy the origianl to play this one I would advise against it. Sometime next year when the game gets fixed you may want to try it. But given the current SWG track recored expect JTL to be ubnbalanced and full of promises that may someday eventually get fixed.

Just wanted to correct some misconceptions

1) The GCW revamp will NOT be another expansion. It will be in a publish (probably after the CR) after JTS. This is *as of this writing*. The CRM has made some comments that lead me to believe they are going to rethink the decision about the scheduling of JTL and the CR

2) Everyone who buys JTL will receive a "starter ship". You will not need to scrounge for cash before getting into space; you will be able to get into space as soon as you can get yourself to a Starport

Other than that, I don't have much to add. This is probably the most complex MMORPG ever made, and the expectations were very high. This game has tremendous potential, but as others have said it won't be realized for another 12 months or so. Pick it up in late 2005 and see what you think! :)

This game is a expansion to a broke core experiance. Developers at SOE are more interested in making a profit off this than fixing the game it is meant to enhance.

If you are interested in the details visit the SOE SWG Forums and read what the players have said.
