If you've read all the above reviews you've already heard from most of the whiney children who are upset because THEY are not emperor palpatine. This game is pretty good. Does it have problems? Sure and roughly every month they address at least some of them. Can the game be boring? Sure, if you feel a need to get to some "top level" really fast then don't know what to do you'll get bored. Have the Devs been exercising a secret conspiracy group with the sole goal of shafting the players? Not a chance. While every player wishes they knew everything before it was done in a game this size that is not going to happen. The devs only problem is that they have been a little too eager to listen to the complainers and have brought on some rather hard to address imbalances. If you want to play a game set in the Star Wars universe, with tons of other people who share your same interest in Star Wars and if you are not going to get your undies in a knot because some tiny detail is not the way you think it should be, you'll love this game. I've been playing it since March of 2003 (1st day of beta 3) and I'll be getting the JTL expansion. Will it be perfect? Probably not. Will I have fun? You had better belive it!

SWG is not a fun game, like all mmorpgs it shares a fatal flaw, the inability to keep people having fun, or have fun in the first place. This is after paying say a year of your savings, as I did, on a game where the developers lie, and the bugs multiply.
This game is a lie to everyone who ever played it, I hate that it destroys the Star Wars galaxy continuity and gameplay that I love. This game had the capacity to become great, but it never will be unfortunately, I feel sorry for anyone who plays this game.
Im personally never playing another MMORPG for several years after this evil game...
Save your life, time, money, and self-respect and dont buy anything to do with this game.
I played it for a year, and after combat rebalance fiasco, thousands of bugs, random crashes, broken pVp, broken pve. Im jus fed up with SOE. Please don't buy this unholy game that is a disgrace to video gaming.
Do NOT waste your time or money on this game.

I got an invitation to play the Beta several weeks ago. And all I have to say is, watch out. This is a horrible expansion and the grinds are just as bad if not worse than the core game SWG.
I alway said, if JtLS wasn't any good, I was gonna cancel my SWG accounts. Well, as of 10/7/04, I did just that. Both accounts are cancelled and I'm better off because of it.
SWG was bad enough and everyone hoped JtLS was going to save the game. It will not. You will be HIGHLY dissapointed in the grind and the lame "missions" the NPC's send you on. It's really very pathetic.
I find it to be hilarious yet expected that they plan on releasing this game on 10/26/04 and as of today, 10/8/04 it's a buggy piece of junk. REALLY buggy.
So, here's my fair warning, "YOU WILL GET A BUGGY, BORING AND POINTLESS GAME WHEN YOU PURCHASE THIS".
Just remember, you were warned.
A SERIOUS WARNING about SWG and SOE from a WEEK ONE VETERAN!

Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided
*Sigh* Where to begin...
This game could be better named:
"Star Wars Galaxies: A Development Team Vs. A Player base".
Never in all my life, have I seen a company alienate so many people in pursuit of the almighty dollar. It's truly sickening. I WAS a 20-month veteran of the game, I had been playing since week one (I've canceled my account and will NEVER do business with SOE again!).
PLEASE, READ ON...
In the beginning...
This game was alright; it was fun, it was unique, and it was totally bug-ridden and unbalanced. Over the course of the last 20 months, the SOE Dev team have made us promise after promise to do certain things to fix and enhance this game. They in fact did very little, if anything at all. They milked us. They exploited the "Star Wars" name to make a buck. They made promise after promise after promise... and never delivered squat. Don't believe me? Just ask any "Smuggler" in the game for their opinion.
They strung us along and led us to believe that the "fixes" to the game were right around the corner! Instead, they were hard at work on an "Expansion Pack" to sell us! And then once again "promised us" that the fixes we've all been waiting for were the next big thing waiting for us, "just hang on, this game is going to be great!" They promised us that they were going to do this "Combat Upgrade" and do it right, and it "wouldn't be released until it's ready!"
We all had a lot of hope, we thought that they had finally figure out that they had totally screwed up and were trying to make amends with a player base on the brink of total collapse. God, how wrong we all were...
Well, much to everyone's surprise, they made the announcement that the long awaited "CU" would be coming out along with the "Rage of the Wookiees" expansion pack! Uhhhmmm... did I miss something somewhere? The alpha test for the "CU" was supposed to begin in January, it never happened. Beta testing began in April, 4 whole weeks before it was supposed to go to live! We all rolled up our sleeves and dove in. I think after the first week or so, the sad realization of what was happening to our game begun to sink in...
They went and copy/pasted EQ2 code into the SWG game so they could "streamline" their operation by having ONE DEV TEAM WORK ON BOTH SWG AND EQ2!!!
The CU was supposed to go live on May 5th. SOE decided to push it to live a whole 2 weeks sooner than that. Honestly, with all the bugs that were still in beta, and now in live, beta could have gone on another 4-6 months! I guess they figured they could milk us all a little more and dump this beta on the live servers and let us pay to test it. Why am I not surprised?
The CU itself is unplayable. It has become Everquest in space, or "EverStar Galaxies QuestWars" as we call it. There are just too many things to list. I'm sure a lot of other reviews here go into much more detail.
As you all can imagine, the player community was totally enraged! We went to the SWG Forum boards to voice our concerns. The only response we ever got back from SOE was THOUSANDS of deleted threads and players banned from the forums. Facing futility, a large portion of the player base has left the game, permanently this time.
This is just not how you do business. I personally will NEVER deal with Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) EVER again. I DO NOT pay MY HARD EARNED MONEY to be lied to, deceived, ignored, strung along, censored, and banned for voicing my concerns. I do not pay money to folks who treat me, a PAYING CUSTOMER, in this fashion.
Star Wars Galaxies is dead. Servers are emptying. People are moving on to other games where folks know how to appreciate their patrons. If you are a fan of Star Wars, and this is the only reason I ever started playing this game to begin with, you will be sadly disappointed!
SWG is nothing more than an exploit of a title, a milk machine. I for one, am tired of being milked.
You have been warned!

Blizzard makes the best computer games in the world, period. Yes it sucks that you have to wait YEARS for them to put one out, but you know what? When that game finally comes out, it is done RIGHT!
The only reason I tolerate SWG and JTL at all is because of the Star Wars theme. If not for that, I would have been gone long ago.
This game has more potential than any other game I can think of, but it is totally wasted because SOE is at the helm. What a travesty!
Good Way to Enhance the already splendid game play

A game where you can go to different planets hunt exotic species master futuristic fantasy weapons and evn follow the ranks of your favorite star wars charecters what else is needed? As if swoops and speeders wernt enough they gave us net nerds even more to play with now if it wasnt for that thing called work, school and social life im afraid id be on this thing 24/7 I love the exspansion its great flying in that ship shooting down pirates dodgeing fire barrel roleing. Its a great concept that most flight sims are missing a good ground based piece too without that theres not much too the game and its weak but no swg blends this into a great mix that is sure to please anyone and when you get your first ship it may be slow but once you've hopped into a sooped up sweet ship its all good.
Excellent game, if your a Star Wars fan.

All right, if you're a Star Wars fan and you have $15 bucks to spend a month then I would recommend you buy this game.
This game is great because it puts you right in the middle of the Star Wars universe. That's it, that is why this game is great. If you want to hop on a starship and go to Endor to visit the Ewoks you can. If you want to go visit the ancient Jedi runes on Dantooine you can. If you want to go the far reaches of space to battle some of the best pilots in the galaxy (though it takes awhile time to get to that level) you can.
Now this game is not for everybody. If you like fast pace games like First Person Shooters than this game is probably not for you, but if you are a true fan of Star Wars that is willing to take some time out of your day, you will probably love this game.
However, if you are want to play this game because you like to play MMORPG, this game isn't for you. Play Everquest or Final Fantasy and stop bashing this game.
Viewed and Played the game......AWESOME

All i have to say is that other people are entitled to their opinions but the truth of the matter is.....most of these people that have rated the game have not actually played the game. For starters....THE EXPANSION ISNT EVEN OUT YET HOW CAN SO MANY PEOPLE REVIEW A GAME WITHOUT PLAYING THE GAME!? I am here to say that I HAVE played the game at a convention i was at not too long ago. The graphics for the game are utterly amazing. If the game was only a space flight game i would still buy it, Not to mention that it contains the extensive play area on the ground. The original game is great. Sure it can be tedious at first but really all good MMORPG's are....building your character and seeing it develop is the beauty of it. So to all these people complaining about how slow it is in the beginning they can kiss off, because i am here to say that the game rocks. Over and out.

Well JTL was released obviously to keep people interested in the Core game Starwars Galaxies after games such as World of War Craft and Ever Quest 2 were released. This was obviously a huge failure.
The game is a complete waste of time and JTL is a complete waste of money. This expansion pack might keep you interested for about one week until you reach the point where each mission takes at least an hour to complete, and is so boring you will want to cry by the end of it.
One word I can easily sum up this expansion pack with is "contentless" which seems to be the popular trait used by SOE for years. Sorry to say, I thought JTL would save SWG, but it didn't, it only made it worse. You can find me in both WoW and EQ2, but you wont find me in SWG ever again.
