Sure you can beat this game into the ground, or you can go play another game where you beat up mobs to make the next lvl just to beat up mobs to make the next lvl, just to beat up mobs to make the next lvl.
Well I for one have played alot of mmorpg games and have settled on the buggy swg and jtl, because there is more to do than just beat up mobs to make it to the next lvl. You can tame critters as pets, and explore the worlds of swg, or jump on a swoop and take off across the planet on a mission, or jump in your ship and fly missions, or, if your a veteran you can jump in your flying yacht with your friends and take in the beautiful scenery of space.
Let me tell you that there is not a game out there that can match the things available to craft, or the way the avatars can change professions anytime you want, or even change your looks, or stats anytime you feel like it. The people that say there is nothing to do must like bashing mobs to lvl up, and then going to the next area to bash mobs to go to.... you guessed it the next area to rinse and repeat. If you want your avatar to always look the way you created it, and you want to only bash mobs like a robot to move to the next lvl then swg/jtl is not for you.
But if you like to be able to change everything about your avatar any time you want, and have a zillion things to do besides bashing mobs to make the next lvl, and like the idea of owning your own, or several spaceships, then swg/jtl is the game to get. I will bet you that you will never sit with 20 to 40 people fighting over an npc that drops one leet item you and all the other people needs for quest.

I've been playing this game for around 6 months now.
Whats fun? Dang near everything about it. Whats not fun? Dang near everything about it. LOL The game is constantly changing to satisfy this group of people or that group of people. Some players think that one proffesion is going to be the be all and should be able to kill anything or anyone. Not true. What makes the game really fun however is the comradery amongst friends....even better if they are real life friends playing by your side in the game.
If you buy the game planning on being a Jedi.....maybe Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is for you. Being a Jedi in this game takes months and months of boring xping. The Jedi in the game are generally hated by all....whether Light or Dark. This problem was really inflated when the dev's made it so that the Jedi needed to kill real players in order to achieve higher levels and of course there are many good people out there...but then again there are those rather undesirables who eventually did everything in there power to find a way to force you into combat with them and there large goon squads just for some xp.
PvP in the game is presently kind of unbalanced to a degree but a good thinker can work around some stuff and still do good in pvp. However there are some parts of it that are just wrong and until the Dev's fix it....people will continue to exploit some stuff and ruin fun for a lot of people. If your a Pvper and want to play this game....don't expect to see even odds on a regular basis.
This is my first online RPG so I cannot say if it is better then others or worse....I do like the fact that you can be competetive in pvp or pve in just a few months of play, unlike some other games where you can xp up to god like levels and beat up on anyone else who hasn't xp'd for a year straight. In SWG there main goal I believe was to have a Yin and Yang system to PvP. There will never be a god like level for anyone.... It is more like...one proffesion does better against another....and that proffesion has one that can beat it...etc. etc.
PvE There are tons of missions and special goals to achieve in the game.....but remember there are a lot of others trying to do these same special goals and at times you can wait and wait for hours for a rare creature to show up...just to have another group of people kill it and get the super duper loot items from it.
Another bonus to the game...
They can kill you all they want....but they can never take your stuff. Unlike some other games.

Most of the previous reviews have covered what is wrong.
There are glaring bugs and broken in-game systems that have not been addressed over the past year. They range from the annoying like warping up to 150 meters away when you dismount a vehicle, to game-breaking such as major balance issues between the professions.
The community has been in a unproar becaues of a recent announcement that fixes which have been promised to the community for months and months will be pushed back indefinately to develop jump to lightspeed. They feel like their monthly subscription fee is paying for the development of JTL because all of the core game devs are working on it instead of the ground game.
This game has enormous potential but gross mismanagement of resources and wrong prioritization of issues is wearing on the subscribers.
To cite an example....despite the fact there are glaring game-breaking bugs, the devs decided to revamp the Image Designer profession...a functional profession with only minor issues and largely unplayed by most. Meanwhile the Smuggler profession (a core star wars icon) sits waiting completely broken.
Don't mistake the negative reviews as people being malicious to self-serve themselves. The negative reviews are posted by people who truely want SWG to work and be the awesome game it has the potential to be. They are doing this to get the devs attention and make things happen for the benefit of the game.
My advice? Don't buy it-yet. Keep an eye out though because if the management of dev resources improves from where it has been, this game could be sitting at the top of the MMO heap someday.
Right now they have a lot of ground to make up for though.
DEVS PLEASE DON'T LET THIS GAME GO THE WAY OF EARTH AND BEYOND.

Tragically, SOE have taken such a promising liscense and viciously borked it.
The basic game structures still do not work. The $15 you pay per month for support and development of the online world has been trickled away to fund a new *commercial* product. Given that, we've paid for it already, and it should be free.
This is a nice shiny hubcap on a broken shopping trolley.

The star wars galaxies upgrade is HORRID!!!!! They took a great, fun game... and made it into by far the single worst game i have ever played in my entire life overnight. I thought it was completely ridiculous before how it was a neverending grind of 6 months if you knew what you were doing to make padawan....then months on end from there....but at least the game was fun to play. What i didnt like before is the fact that if soe actually talked to ANY star wars fan EVER(obviously they dont give a crap what the fans think or they wouldnt have ruined the game on us).....they would find that nobody wants to be a dancer/ image designer/ wookie washing dishes for points to build his character or whatever dumb ideas they have goin on here......people played these characters because they HAD to, and had NO other choice. I would have payed 50 bucks a month to start out as a padawan because any fan of star wars wants to play a jedi right??? and not in a year from when they start after putting in 4+ hours a day. It doesnt matter now because the game is completely unplayable and ruined anyways.... and i feel sorry for anyone who is just starting out on there, as it will probabally take them 6 months to master a regular profession that they will find is completely worthless anyway....if they even stick with the game long enough to even accomplish that. My character is a master tera kasi/ master sword/ master fencer and died trying to fight 2 weaker monsters at once. the combat goes so slow it is pathetic, and horribly boring to even bother with. I saw a jedi running from a pack of huurtons (dog creature that a mid lvl character could fight no prob before) Jedi is supposed to be powerful i thought from watching the movies right? How pathetic to see them run away from weak creatures....but what do i know....maybe thats what lucas intends for them and has in the new movie huh???? The game lags horribly now because there is too many calculations and stats they are messing with now..... more stats only bog a game down and create LAGGGGGG and sure as hell doesnt make for a better game.
They say they beta tested this stupid combat upgrade and it would be cool if you could find out who the retarded morons were that said this was a good thing, and gave it the thumbs up......have they ever played anything else before , or were all of the beta testers on crack or just plain stupid, or what's up??? Im with everyone else and am cancelling my account and am going to look into some other games as anything will be better than this crap is now ..... I could go back to playing pong, and it would be a better and more exciting experience thatn playing star wars galaxies is now.
SOE/Lucas Arts: "YOU HAVE FAILED ME FOR THE LAST TIME!"

I have been playing this game since the very first beta 2. I have been involved with the beta testing of every major upgrade since then. The reason they keep offering me invites to beta is probably because I have always been diligent in reporting the myriad of bugs and play issues that this game still has--many since the very beginning.
JTL SHOULD have been released when the game was initally released, but it wasn't ready (like the rest of the game) and they needed something to get more of our money later. In its current form, JTL is a lame attempt at the X-Wing/Tie Fighter series. It is multiplayer--but very little space content.
SOE/LucasArts has had a long and notorious record of a) pushing releases to live long before they are ready. b) Making promises that are never kept. c) Not listening to their paying customers.
I've been waiting for over 2 years for the developement team to pull their heads out of their collective 45535. But they continue to push out publishes that are not only half-baked, but exactly NOT what the player base has been asking for. For the last few months--BEFORE the "Combat Upgrade (CU)"-- I had been hopeful, because they were finally pushing out smaller point releases that have fixed several of the bugs and play issues that we have been asking for for years. However, since the CU, all of that work has been flushed because all the things they fixed are no longer used or relevant to the game. And, of course, they introduced TWICE the number of NEW bugs that will take another two years to fix.
The game has now become a total grind fest and the player economy is now defunct because of all the changes made to crafting professions. In fact--a newbie will have no chance at ever becoming a crafter due to the unbearably long grind that is now necessary and the fact that crafters are so totally defenseless, they can not walk through an established city without being killed instantly by even the weakest of thugs.
If this game did not have the lure of the Star Wars license, it would have been dead long ago.
As it is, this game has turned into a sci-fi version of EQ with blasters and lots more bugs--and lots less content.
If you must attempt to play this game, I strongly urge you to first find a FREE TRIAL account, or borrow a friend's account that might still be active. That is, of course, assuming that anyone is still LEFT playing this game.
Otherwise, if you don't mind paying $15/month on top of all they charge you for all the "upgrades" just so you can be a perpetual beta tester--knock yourself out.

I've been playing Star Wars Galaxies since it was first released, but I cancelled my account a few months ago. When you first start playing it looks as if there is tons of things to do, and working on you profession is fun at first. But you soon realize it is just repetition and it becomes tedious. (ex. I was working on Becoming a Droid Engineer, you literally have to stand there hours on end clicking "yes" on pop up menus.) But by far the biggest 2 problems were lack of content, (the dev team should take notes on what the City of Heroes Devs did) and the galatic Civil war. ( which has been "broken" from the start.)
Now what does any of this have to do with Jump to Lightspeed? Well to me it just seems like the Devs are trying to get more money out of the Star Wars name then fix the problems that have been around since launch. (I wont get into the exact problems, other reviewers have already mentioned alot of them.) And because of this I can't recommend this expansion to anyone. For me it's just not worth it to pay $15 a month for a game that still has so many problems, and then pay another $30 dollars to buy an expansion to get X-wing Vs TIE fighter online. I still believe That SWG could beome quite a good game, but I'm not gonna give them my money while they sort things out. I may resubscribe in a year if the game gets fixed...but until then I'll just play X-wing Alliance.

This expansion went live today and I'm playing it right now. My gorgeous Twi'lek character is in an Imperial flightsuit and patroling space above Talus. What's not to like? My character looks amazing, and I'm having a blast as part of the clandestine Imperial group known as Black Epsilon. Missions have a fine storyline. The graphics are amazing with some of the finest space environments I have seen in any game, let alone an MMORPG. An awesome experience overall!!

This game has not even been released and I can say this to you.
Jump to LightSpeed is an expansion for the ground based game called Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. The original game is so bug ridden and unbalanced at the moment and SOE and Lucas Arts are not fixing it at all. In fact they have been lying to us, the paying customers, and are continually pushing back majorly needed bug fixes and revamps. SOE's major rebuttal to all these delays is that it is working on Jump To Light Speed and can't get around to fix the ground game. As we all know of MMORPG's, they all have major bugs at ship. The summary to my review is this.... How can SOE/LucasArts expect to maintain SWG: An Empire Divided and Jump to LightSpeed at the same time?..... They can't.
Avoid this game like the plague.
Why pay for something that wont be finished?

It is very disappointing that SOE and LA is releasing this expansion and charging people for it. The core game of Star Wars Galaxies is far from finished. Many of the professions are broken and there is very little content.
Do not waste your money on this one until other elements of the game have been fixed.
