What the other people have said is true. The ground game has many problems and the promised fixes are as yet to come after thay were said to be in the works as of Dec 2003 (the combat system fixes for example).
With a basic part of the game like the combat system, that effects all players, in need of a complete overhaul SOE decided to overhaul the Jedi instead (who are only a small part of the player population).
In order for you to play Jump To Lightspeed you HAVE to play the ground game so even though few of us went to the convention and played JTL we can say that JTL will not be very fun because of the problems with the ground game.
I don't know if there is or will be problems with JTL but im sure there will be. SOEs ablity to run and fix this game is very low and so I will leave SWG and will not buy JTL. Mabe one day thay will get it right but as for now im staying away.
If you like real RPGs you'll Love this game if not...

First off the Suposed LIE about the Combate Balance. SOE anounced the "schedule" Back in Dec that is true. However it a) Specificly Said this Pub 7 Droid Invation, Pub 8 Droids Rebuilt, Pub 9 Jedi Revamp Part 1, Pub 10 Jedi Revamp part 2, Pub. 11 combate Balance, Pub 12 GCW. Now assuming that they ALL get/got out on time AND Knowing that Pub 7 was released in Mid-Feb. with an aproximetly 6 week Dev time Between Publishs that would put the Combate Balance right in the MIDDLE of October. Now explane to me how the Devs are going to beable to bacily launch 2 massivly Game Changing enhancements AT THE SAME TIME. They Can't so they pick the one that people where complaining about longest LACK OF SPACE ACTION.(this was a Grip sence launch). As for the MYTH that the Jedi Revamp is 2 publishs for a SMALL percentage of the population that is Pantently untrue. First off Pub 10 has NO repeat NO effect on CURRENT jedi in the least it just totally changes the meothod of Normal Players reaching the goal of becoming a Jedi. So it infact effects ALL Players BUT Jedi(assuming everyone wants to be a jedi I certanly don't) It also will end a process that has virually ruined the Player Based Economey HOLO-GRINDING it is this practous that Drove up the price of materials and there for drove up the price of end products. It also lead to the destuction of long time crafters though price wars by HoloGringers looking for just enough money for there next prof.
Both these things effect every member of the population. Lastly while yes Pub 9 was almost totally for the Jedi it was neasacry for Pub 10 to work. Most of the negitive coments about Pubs 9 and 10 are from Faild HoloGrinders because they think they did all that work for nothing.
In closing the price for SWG and JTL Combined is $40.00. Thats 2 games in one and was the origanl price of SWG. Now, will JTL be the greatest game ever or even good I have No Idea I have not played it as have NONE of the Negitives here. That is why I am only rating the "ground componat" of this game wich is one that I have gotton over a years enjoyment out of. BTW I use to buy about 1 new game a month at $40 each I bought 4 in the past year KOTOR, Rise of Nations, Jedi Acadamy, and City of Heros. so this game has infact saved me about 15-20 dollors a month over the past year AND kept me from buying some really Crappy Games that I have a tendincy to get sukered into buying.
I gave this game a fair chance but..

I started playing SWG in early november 2003, mostly b/c alot of people i knew were playing it. it was teh first MMORPG ive had ever tried. It was actually very fun for the first couple of months that i played.
However, during this time the devs tried to fix some of the bugs in the game and almost every patch solved 1 or 2 bugs but introduced 3 or 4 new bugs. Combine this with the fact that there is a sizable number of players that, over time, have learned to use exploits and known bugs to gain an edge over other players. This lead to a few players to be able to dominate PvP (this has rescently be somewhat replaced by the devs with jedi, a class specifically designed by teh devs to allow a few power gamers to dominate everyone else aka god class when played right)so its almost pointless and when any player( i mean anyone that mastered a combat profession) can solo all but maby 4 creatures in teh game ( and jedi can usually solo those 4 too) PvE becomes boring very fast.
This leads me to where i am in the game now, i log in occasionaly and sit in a city tring to come up with something to do in the game other than just chating with my friends. This is why i and most of my friends are canciling our accounts to play City or Heros, i never like comic books but it such a fun game i play anyway and it has show me how much fun a well run and designed MMORPG can be.
To those that just want to play JTL and not the ground game i say this, i read most of what teh devs have said about JTL. From what they have said, which could all be lies considering the devs history with the info they give to the players, you will have to spend a few hours in combat in teh ground game for every hour you play in space to pay for maintence, new ships, etc. And thats not including the 2-3 weeks you will need to grind out a profession so you can run missions and another week or so to run the mission to get a ship depending what the players want to charge you.
JTL is a nice addition - 3 stars

I've played SWG, on and off, since release in August '03, it was fun until around December(a new record for a mmorg for me).
JTL: Controls seems ok, haven't tried using a controller. Works pretty smoothly in space. Missions in space are pretty simple, nothing fantastic. Haven't mastered a pilot prof yet, or tried to pvp in space, but seems like there could be alot of fun waiting. Simpler than the ground game in that there's only 3 space professions, but still variables from loot and player crafted ship components.
I mentioned that I've played awhile, and of course been waiting, patiently, for the combat balance for the ground game since Dec. '03. Imo, it is purely bad management that has put it off so long.
Another problem I have with the game is the lack of players. I don't think there's as many playing as there were at start, the ones left are really spread out now, player cities, space, ect. Not too bad once you know where to go.
I rated the game 4 stars cause I have had alot of fun playing (at release anyway), but 2 stars overall because the total lack of balance, or even a honest attempt to balance gameplay so far. Why? I don't know.
Great game for people who are into star wars

The previous game SWG AN EMPIRE DEVIDED was fund with cons and pros.
Cons:Bad lag, ncp's killing you in the begining, and hard to get enough xp to do pvp.
Pros:If you have friends that play the game or are in search of a game if u turn them on the game is fun because you can help eachother (trust me i turned 2 people on and another person plays w/me and we all help eachother and it is fun), also meeting new people is nice and they can help you, then the proffesions are really cool to try and give really cool perks.
Now SWG JTL has quite diffrent game play when you launch into space. I have not experienced much lag and the new space driven stories are quite fun. Also it is cool to get the thrill of out runnung a ship and blasting into hyper space.
I recomend this game for people who like to play roleplaying games, people who like the star wars universe, and people who just like playing games.
i give the games a 8.5 out of 10
if you get turned onto the game and want someone to chill with someone in the game im
Came Itrakama
and I play on the
INTREPID server
Thanks for reading my review

I'll admit, yes there are bugs, and there are quite a few at that, but it doesn't stop me from having a good time while playing the game. The devs are not completely ignoring what the customers want either. For instance, the new Jedi system being implemented. The old way of grinding professions did start to get boring, and the devs recognized the problem, thus changing the system to a mission based system. They've also given more of a purpose for being a Jedi, with the new Ranking system. I've been playing for 8 months now, and I still enjoy playing and look forward to new updates.
You've also got to take into account that the devs not only have to try to fix bugs, but publish new updates for new stuff as well as continuing the story line. I played Earth & Beyond starting back in its Beta days, and that was worst in my opinion. The storyline didn't move along hardly at all, and when it did, I think it jumped to far ahead. That game has already declared that it is going down in the September time frame and will be no more.
I also find it strange how no reviews were given here about SWG (NOT This Expansion) for a good month after the first one and all of a sudden, BAM, 9 new reviews shredding SWG to pieces.
I am looking forward especially to this upcoming expansion as SOE and Lucas Arts is finally putting the "Star" in Star Wars Galaxies. I've always like flight sims and using a joystick to control a craft, so this will definitely re-spark my interest in the game.
And on a last note, I'd rather spend my money here then on another World War II game like Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor, etc, and there expansions. They are all fun, but you can only play soldier for so long. This is also the best MMORPG that I've come across.
Anyway, as I stated before, even with its many bugs, I still enjoy and recommend this game.
SWG-A long time ago in a galaxy full of disappointment......

Im going to begin my review as saying this, I had great hope for SWG and played it until August last month. I really believed in the devs and that in the end they could make the game as good as promised, but I ran out of hope and the game is only getting worse. I remember 3 years ago spending all night scrounging through rumors for official videos posted onto warcry or something to see pics of SWG. I had great love for the game, but even that will run out when you realize you've been conned out of a 150$. I mean I really loved SWG I had such great hope for it, and if you were to look back before games release, they promised the community, simply loads and loads of features, which they never fulfilled. The game now is in a state of unrest, anarchy, and mad people.
Pvp-utterly broken beyond repair-This I can guarantee.
Patches-each one makes the game more broken than before, many patches released in smaller packets are fixes for the main patch. In all I'd say that the game is in a spiral of destruction, people are quiting left and right, if you look on the forum boards you'll see 5-10 and increasing reviews about people leaving and complaining, and I can't blame them. Others have been waiting for JTL and is only reason they've stuck around.
Devs-They have publicly said that those who post on forums are dummies and publicly insulted the community.
JTL-I guarantee you'll spend half a year before you can get enough money to go into space, and you'll spend 3 hours on the ground for every 1 hour you spend in space. This expansion itself will be filled with bugs, and bugs just like it's predecessor.
The devs even gave free ships to veterans of the game so that they'd stick around and not leave the game. Also if you look at the game itself, interior programming, and designing, it's all designed to do one thing, inside and out, to keep you playing as long as possible on some pointless task, or task with purpose to get your money.
The game is fun and does not make you feel starwarsy, if you want star wars feel, play like Battlefront, or KOTOR.
Afterall Jedi rule the game now in pvp, and it currently takes a 100 players to beat one jedi, at higher levels. Jedi will kill any pvper they see for pvp points so that they can gain levels as jedi.
And of course the devs will keep promising that they'll fix all of it, which they won't, they've had over a year now and game is still broken, only getting more broken with time. My adivce is this please, please stay away from this game, it took 150$ out of my own pocket and took a year of my life away from me. This game seriously made me almost ban myself from ever picking up another lucasarts game ever again.... if not for KOTOR....I'd seriously have done it.
Plz, stay away from this game, let it sink to it's cursed fate, I will never ever play this game again.... Too many bad memories, too many friends I had that now are gone.....I beg you don't let this haunt your lives for the next several years, as Im sure it will scar mine.....
Thankx for listening-
Traes Shadow-

Jump to Lightspeed is virtually a game of its own. Flying starships is fun. It's like playing X-Wing Alliance or Tie Fighter, only better, as the graphics and ship models are absolutely beautiful this time. And you can play Jump to Lightspeed with only a minor interaction with the ground game since space missions and loot you get after blowing up other ships in space are more than enough to make character growth rewarding.
All in all, this expansion ins't just for existing SWG fans, but also for those who love the classic X-Wing series of space combat flight sims as flying is completely action oriented. Even if you hate the core game, this is still good, and who says you still have to play the ground game anymore if you have JtL?
Update (Oct 20)
Been playing the beta for some time now. The game is getting better and better, especially the flight controls which is more refined than it was a week ago. A lot of mission bugs have been fixed as well. And again, you don't have to interact with the ground game much if you're a pilot other than talking to your trainers to get missions and puchasing/selling stuff from/to other players, or finding someone to get rid of battle fatigue and heal your wounds; but again when in space wounds and battle fatique don't have much effect on your ability to fly. You only need to stay on the ground if you want to be a shipwright, and that's probably what you'll want to do if don't like the simulation aspect of JtL. Finally, get yourself a joystick if don't already have one.
great,challenging game

I'm reading some recent bad reviews about this game and I can't understand all the whining. This is not your run through and shoot em up kind of game. If your into that kind of game you may find this one boring. If your 14 or of limited patience go some where else for fun. This is a challenging and difficult game at times but engaging, well done and complex. You wont be playing it for a couple weekends but for many months. The complexity of the game means there will be bugs. Those of you expecting perfection need to get a clue. Those who want everything for free need to grow up. This is entertainment and in my opinion damn good entertainment for those of us that enjoy a challenge. Remember this is a product that needs to make a profit for the creators otherwise we will not be playing. As for customer service, I havn't had a problem yet, can't comment either way yet. Again this game is complex and dynamic, you have to learn skills to survive and you have to earn a living. Thing break and wear out, and they all cost money. If you want unlimited bullets and easily learned skills go dust off your copy of Duke Nukem and quit whinning about a great game.

Please, for your own sake do not start throwing your money to Sony for this crappy game. SWG has been out for over a year now and it should frankly still be in beta. Content is horrible, the game is still buggy (for every 'fix' they break 2 more things...), you will only become addicted to this crappy game and end up throwing 15 buucks a month to them. Also, YOU WILL NEVER BE A JEDI! They advertize jedi, but it will be impossible to even try the padawan trials until you've given them your money for at least 4 months straight. After you get there, it just goes downhill as they continue to break the damn game...
