I realized in the first couple of ratings is that Shemnue is a GREAT game to some people as opposed to A HORRIBLE game that no one should get to other people. Well "Their OPINIONS!" and my opinion is that the game is great. It is a great game full of adventure, rpg, fighting, and more and is really fun. The only reason I gave it a 4 was because in the third cd the game froze and erased my files which got my angry. But I didn't get as angry as i would for any other game (except <3Final Fantasy 7<3) because It was a great game and I don't really care playing it over again. In the long run this game is awesome.

There are too many games on the Sega Dreamcast that seem as though they were designed for the Super Nintendo. Shenmue has made clear what the Dreamcast is capable of. This game is very close to real life via the details that a player can explore. The player assumes the role of Ryo Hazuki, a Japanese teen who witnessed the murder of his Father--a martial arts sensei--at the hands of a powerful stranger. The openning movie alone takes just about five minutes to introduce you to the world of Shenmue, a world that you will have the liberty to explore as you see fit. As the story progresses in 1986 Japan, Ryo must solve puzzles by speaking to the citizens of the small towns nearby. There are a myriad of people to speak to and clues to find. Ultimately, your goal is to discover who your father's killer was, and exact revenge. Ryo--a martial arts student/high school student--will fight his way through secretive henchmen, and street punks to accomplish this goal. The story is also elevated through "Magic Time and Wheather." Time in the world of Shenmue travels one minute for every two seconds in real life. A player can literally watch an entire day go by before their eyes. Wheather changes as well from suny, to cloudy, to rainy, or even snowy. This virtual world is unique to each player and never the same. Details are so fine that a player can call the operator for local wheather, or practice and perfect martial arts techniques, or search every inch of a house. This game is worth it for anyone with the patience to live in a life-like world and take role playing to a new level. If anything, this game is very close to "Matrix"
almost perfect

While the game is near perfect it had two down sides in my opinion. 1.For moving Ryo you had to use the directional pad instead of the preferable joystick. 2.You do not get to avenge your fathers murderer (Lan Di). Instead you are forced to anticipate the arrival of Shenmue-Chapter 2. All in all it should be a contestant for game of the year(thats only on dreamcast though). The best game of 2000 was The Sims, which won Game Of the Year.
Best Game Ever?

This game is so awsome I don't know where to begin. First of all you can do anything you want to like buy a coke or play Hang On at the video arcade. The graphics are the best of any game I've played. The best part is that you can get a job where you operate a forklift to lift crates for some cash. If you have a Dreamcast this is a must buy! If you don't have a Dreamcast buy one just for this game.
Excellent!!

This game is like no other. This game is a mix of RPG and fighting. It's about a guy named Ryo Hazuki avenging his father's death. You see a fighting master named Lan Di kills Ryo's father. The game is very detailed and is cool. Anyone should get it.(watch out for Shenmue 2 coming out for X-Box November 1st.
Fabulous game!! off the hook... sorta.. :)

This game is really amazing... I hit disk three in 3 days. I was completely sucked in. But there are a few draw backs. There are a lot of load times..Everytime you walk into a store or your home etc.. The game has to load the next environment. This in turn causes a lot of waiting around. This can be annoying. The moves taught to you by random people are hard to catch at first.. But the game is pretty much idiot friendly. But you advance at your pace so more cerebral players are not really affected by this. But overall this game will captivate you.. It is quite amazing. The graphics are great, the game engine smooth and fast, you have realistic relationships, and you do have control..mostly anyway..it will suck you in, I should know..three days straight .. I have built a coffee table homage to the dreamcast gods (3 days worth of drink cans--etc etc..)
The only other bad thing about this game is...sadly enough.. Shenmue 2 was only released overseas... Shenmue 2 in America is only released on Xbox (from what I can tell) Which I will never feed the Microsoft gods.. so I will have to hope I can get the overseas version for DC. (So if you have it... e-mail me.)

This game is the best game i have ever played. You get caught up in the adventure, and you dont want to put down the controller. You have to buy this game if you own a Dreamcast, or if you dont have one, buy a Dreamcast and get this game.

Shenmue is far the best game on Sega Dreamcast so far. No other game even compares to the Shenmue ledgend. Enter the world of Ryo Hazuki as you start of in Japan and find a black car in front of your house. The next thing you know you see Ine-san lying on the ground. You walk up to the dojo and Fuku-san flies out of the door. Then the next thing you know there you have company. A man stands in the dojo demanding a mirror but Ryo's father refuses. Lan Di escapes with the mirror and leaves your father dead. Go throughout the world of Japan and meet many people like The MadAngels, Master Chen, Nazomi-san, Chai, Charly and a whole bunch of sailors that you get to fight at night. Follow in the foot steps of Ryo Hazuki's ledgend, the quest to find Lan Di and defeat him once and for all! What awaits you, nowbody knows...
