Ok if you don't have this game and you are wondering if you should, stop wondering and starting counting your money. The game is the best thing to come to dreamcast since the 2k series.
If you like games that are tough but aren't imposible to beat this is your game. If you like stupid invaders or other games that have mind puzzles you'll like it. It's not all about skill, you also need to use your head. This game is great. I am playing for the second time and still loving it.
An awsome game

Shenmue was my first game for dreamcast and so far my favorite. The only problem was the length. It is an incredibly short game but also VERY fun. I love the fact that it has an actual storline, great graphics, and you can do like everything from calling people to opening drawers and examining items. I also like the fact that depending on how you play, the game changes. When I played I got to save Nazomi from two guys but my brother never fought them. Oh, and I love the fact that the weather changes.
It will change the way you see RPG

This is by far the best game ever! There are hundrends of people you can talk to, fight, get really mad at, and feel sorry for. My friend told me not to lock myself away in my room until I beat the game...but I did it anyway. This game makes you want to keep on playing. I thing the best part about this game is that every person in the game lives there own life weather you see them or not. Another great feature and as far as I know... a completly origianal feature, is you get a job, and you can get paid or even get a raise (depending on how hard you work!) Thank you Yu Suzuki!!! For making the best game EVER!!!
Good game, but lacking in areas

THe first amazing elements that jump out at you as soon as you play this game is that Shenmue's awesome graphics and the vastness of the world you play this game in. The technology of Shenmue is simply amazing, and helps the game span many genres of video games. After playing the game I also thoroughly enjoyed its story and charectors. For the most part this game plays like an RPG, but also includes bits that are racing, fighting, and speed tapping of buttons (I really don't know what genre that would be). This combination of genres kinda hurts Shenmue because it includes them all, but truely masters none of them. Finally, my biggiest complaint is that although the game is three discs long, it is actually quite a short game to beat. I still recommend this game as a must play game for Dreamcast owners.
I Never Got Into RPGs But..

when my cousin Ben gave me the Shenmue game, i basically got hooked. ALMOST everything is realistic (i said almost because there were a few things that weren't), and the story is good. but im gonna tell you right now, i don't like the ending. if u played it before, you'll know what i mean. hopefully, there would be a Shenmue 2 to finish that dumb ending. ANYWAY, it's all good. if u like romance, fighting, history, Japanese (i'm personally not into Japanese stuff, but my sister is so i FINALLY got the -san, -sama, and all that stuff), RPG, and basically kicking butt, but the game!
the best game ever

I loved this game. The attention to detail is incredible. The seasons changing, the town folk and the citys themselves are just stunning. This isn't just a simple game, you assume the role of Ryo and play out his life for the next few months. I love this game and wholeheartedly recommend it to any gamer.
I connected with this game so closely

It was just beautiful. Not perfect by any means. You can't go to see anyone in the city, or visit. I almost wished it didn't have a driving story, but concentrated and fleshed out the town, which is what keeps me coming back, for it's unique depth. It all just feels so beautiful and full of wonder, like taking a vacation and living this adventurous life. I could put away those boxes for a long time. After awhile you'll wish there were more arcade games or pool or cards -something like that. It seems to go too fast, but what a time I had with it, I'll always want to play more... the music is incredible.
What's wrong with the game: the kitten had no reason to be in the game, it adds nothing to the story and has no payoff. The Shenmue.com site is down, so you can't trade pinball prizes or do anything of much fun... Also, if the kitten adds nothing, the stores add very little, you can't go into homes and most restaurants/buildings are purely for looks, and I never had to buy move scrolls, there were very few big fights until the end, you can ask a billion people the same question and they might all answer 'I dunno' in different ways, which is a waste of space and adds nothing to the mystery. The second disc could have put you in a new area or something but it didn't... the game is satisfying, but they chose to make it fall short of what it could have been. You're just left with the story, the job and the arcade when it comes down to it.
A Great Game...

I truley loved this game, it is one of the most compelling games that I have ever played. But I was somewhat dissapointed. While playing this game, I thought I was going to go all arond Japan and China, but you don't. You stay arond you home and the area where you start at. Sometimes Shenmue can get pretty repetitive, but it's still addictive, so be ready. I played it hours on end. Really the most dissapointing thing is the ending. When I "resolved" the problem, I was mad. You'll
find out why when you beat it. Shenmue is still one of the best games out there, so buy it if you have the chance. It is definetly worth the money.
What an excellent game!

Shenmue is an epic game, a masterpiece, a must have. Is weird as this sounds, its a combonation of Zelda and Crazy Taxi. This is a must own for Dreamcast owners. Its possibly the most realstic game ever. Get this game now!
