I have a library that covers over 30 Dreamcast games, and I would have to say that this one impresses me the most. This adventure brings any gamer closer to realism than she or he has ever been. Dialogues do not have to be read, but they are heard; and you feel like a third party member eavesdropping on a conversation every time the main character engages in one. The graphics are not the only reason why I am impressed so much, but the fact that it spans all genres is incredible! If you like fighting games, there instances where you can beat up some thugs; or if you like racing you can hop on a motorcycle and burn rubber. Feel like gambling or playing pool, it is there; and if you want to go back to some classic Sega Master System games you can. This is a must buy because it is the best game of its type that has ever been created, and it is the most revolutionary for all of its attention to detail. This game is a must buy for any gamer.

if you are a gamer that like to play games that uses a real world enviroment and like the idea to see around and think what you going to find is what you are specting then this is the game for you. Shenmue uses a great F.R.E.E world enviroment that make you interact with almost anything in the game, the grafics are amazing and with a rich detail, the story line make you keep playing for hous and hours and hours. Altought I think this game is for older people who, knows what going on in the game and the story line, young kids may find this game boring for the reazon of been asking people all over the town to find a clue for the next step on the game, but that doesnt't meand that they can't play this game, I recomend this game for people who likes to spend hours on front of a tv playing. I hope the socond part be as good as this one.
The start of a great series (and the best game I've played)

I was amazed from the very beginning. breath taking graphics fluent motion and great sound. the largest assortment of interactive characters then any other game (around 300+). Along with the top notch visuals and sound, Shenmue told a great story as well. Revenge, honor, and love are all mixed into this great game. I recommend this game to anyone. And no lie, once you begin to play you will not be able to stop till your done. Can't wait till the next one comes out. Hours of great realistic game play, almost begin to wonder witch life is yours.

The plot is pretty good and it can be slow be it won't go too quick either and with 3 cd's it will take u a while, but boy will it be worth it. This is my 3 time through and it is still a great game and a must have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shenmue is the game that really got me back into gaming. How is this possible? It does something no one has been able to do correctly until now---create a living virtual world that is not only interactive, but open ended enough to allow plenty of freedom for the player. I made the decision to buy an XBOX on launch day partly due to the fact that ShenmueII would be available for it...again, something I've never done before for ANY gaming system!
I had purchased many DC games before Shenmue as was thoroughly disappointed or bored with them. When I bought Shenmue, I found myself so engrossed in this epic game that the hours would pass by without me even consciously knowing it...something no game was able to do for me since the 16-bit days. For that alone the game ranks very highly.
Anyway, you've heard me rant about how I love Shenmue, but what's it about and how does it play? The game is about a young Japanese man who's father is killed by a mysterious man. The young man (Ryo) takes it upon himself to avenge his father's death and herein is the beginning of this awesome adventure. The game is similar to a role playing game in that you build skills, solve some minor puzzles and do LOTS of questioning of townsfolk and so on to get to the bottom of the mystery. Along the way you'll have the opportunity to not only focus on the quest and your physical martial arts training, but thanks to the open-endedness of the game, you can also play and have fun whether by playing actual arcade and parlor games, gambling in the casino, visting bars, or shopping for stuff and building your collection of toys! It all takes place in a third person point of view similar to Tomb Raider, but with incredible graphics and without the horrible control. Basically, you can do and see whatever you want. Some minor rules such as time of day and some physical boundaries exist, but nothing too restricting!
If you don't have this game yet and own a DC, you must play it now. If you have an XBOX, be sure to buy SHENMUE II when it's released this fall!

Although this game has been released for a while, and I have played this like a year ago, it is still an extrodanry game. I love the little town and how you can talk to any person at all. Also I love the GTE and free battles. I also liked the storyline. That is what drew me into the world that Ryo Hazuki lives in. The music goes from cheery(in the daytime) to almost unnerving (in the nighttime). Also the different array of moves that Ryo learns is awesome because there are just so many! I highly recommened this game to owners of Dreamcast's.
Okay game.

I'm somewhat dissapointed. The ending is bad. There has better be a sequel for an ending this bad. Navigating around is sometimes tricky. And the acting! Ouggghh! Saying the acting in this game is top notch is just like saying kissing a cobra is smart!
But here are good stuff... Graet graphics, nice characters, and fun games.
GOODIES: EVERYTHING EXCEPT BELOW BADDIES: BAD ENDING; POOR NAVIGATION; HORRIBLE ACTING FINAL: B THIS GAME NEARLY PUNCHED ITSELF IN THE GUT.
Not for the impatient action junkie

Shenmue is a great game and a must have for Dreamcast owners.
This game isn't for quick-pace action lovers. It has a slow pace and involves a lot of detective work.
Fights don't happen as much until the 3rd disc.
The voice overs are horrible, but sometimes good.
The controls take a while to get used to.
The music is great.
The Graphics are amazing. Nothing can compare to this.
The enviroments are spectacular. You can do pretty much anything you want ...play arcade games, drink soda, go to bed, talk to people, call people, ride the bus, etc.
Anyways, like I said, buy the game immediately unless you don't like this type of game.
read this review it will help you for the future!...

This is the best game on any system and Shenmue 2 is sold on ebay.com so go get it there but it's on a bid so it can cost 5.00 or 500.00 it doesnt matter. the bid has a due date also ...and bid on Shenmue 2 even though it isnt in the english language i still beat the game in 4 days. not a waste of money. Shenmue leaves you waiting also though. ...they say that Yu Suzuki is making 16 chapters to the awsome novel. get them all so you know what happens in each one. Shenmue 2 is the last game on sega dreamcast so it is very rare. check your bid everyday and you will win Shenmue 2. i have it on sega dreamcast. the words are in the hong kong language and its longer than the first. beware of the third cd though. it is the logest and the hardest because you gotts make mega bucks quickly or you will be playing the game forever. i stay up all night playing it so thats why i beat it so soon. otherwise it is an awsome game worth more than 10 stars! get this game and if not...BEWARE!...
