Hardly anyone's mentioned the fact that this game requires you to read every single thing in order to understand what's going on!! I don't know about you, but I thought video games were made so that people could relax ... not strain your eyes in order to read every single frickin thing the townspeople have to say. It's absolutely ridiculous!! I don't like reading textbooks, so why would they think I'd like to read 200 million pages of dialogue, in which half of it is probably useless anyways. Not to mention the 20 million things you can ask the townspeople about. Little secret? Little rumor? Someone specific? Specific location? I don't know what half of those mean, let alone where to start!! I don't know how this got game of the year award ... maybe because it was 2002, and games like Knight of the Old Republic still hadn't come out yet ... but I see hardly any value to it (...). I bought the game once, decided I didn't like it because you can't see your character when you fight, then bought it again to give it another try ... found out that you can change the character viewpoint, but it causes you to move around clumsily instead (since the game's really made for 1st person view) ... got even more frustrated, and turned the game off. When I think of RPG's, I think Final Fantasy, etc. This game doesn't even come close and was quite a disappointment.
Some people are just stupid

First I like to say that i've only been playing the game for about a week now so I still don't know alot about the game. But what I do know is that this game is the shi*!..Why are some people complaining that the worlds are too big..Sure it's a long as walk and you could get lost easily but come on,What other game has that kind of freedom to just roam where ever you want.also, I think the creators of morrow wind tried to make the game as realistic as possible I.E stealing anything you want. But come on now,Complaining that if you carry to much stuff you cant move And I also bet your stupid ass tried to sell the stuff you stole back to the barter...I'm Not saying this games for everyone
But if you like games like lineage(who does),World of warcraft,Evercrack.....Then you should check out this game,Or if you've everplayed Kings field on the Playstation I Recommend this game to you also...Bottom line,The load time are a LIL too long...Every time you die good 1-1/2 minute load time..But for how big the game is and MINOR 2-4 sec when opening a door I think It's worth the wait,Although sometimes fustrating..so far for me this games a 5/5
Good Game

It has been years ago since I played Arena on my PC. I loved that game and was heart broken when about half the way through the game my character got stuck in a wall in a dungeon (bringing tears to my eyes just thinking about it). I more less just gave up.
Now that it has been years later I have gotten a XBOX and saw Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (Game of the Year). I was re-excited about the saga to be played again. I read the many great reviews here at Amazon and was a little weary on buying it due to lock ups that people have complained about. I went ahead and went for it! I was amazed of how much more stuff you could do than what I played in those Arena days. Yes the game does lock up from time to time, but I believe the game it self out weighs the lock up. I would have given it the full five stars if it weren't for the lock up issue. The loading time I can deal with. All and all I highly recommend it as a must have game for your XBOX collection.
Lets see.. greatest role playing game EVER? Yes.

Most games you can rent, this one you MUST buy! By far one of the the most intricate RPGs ever. With a completely free environment, and a great storyline, this game kicks... You can follow a fairly involving storyline or go off on your own and build up your skills. The graphics are great, the soundtrack gets a bit annoying after 200+ hours of gameplay... See, the beauty of this game is that you can play as long as you want. You will most likely never finish all the missions anyway. One major downfalls of this game is that your productivity level outside the world of xbox will be at approximately 0%. If you like to get into the games you play, this is the one to do it with. A multi-variable character creation setup, you can have many different possibilities of characters. There are several different classes of characters, which all have different strenghs and weaknesses, which makes the game different every time you play it. Replay value is 5 stars. It can get kind of slow if you're just trying to raise your skills, but that is easily overshadowed by the unreal environments, multitudes of missions that you have to do, guilds that you can join. You are totally free to do whatever you want in this game... you can be part of the thieves guild, or and assasin in the Morag Tong, or you can just walk around and do whatever you feel like. The many cities in this game are huge and offer many stores with many different products... I can go on for at least another hour, but I still wouldnt describe how great this game is, just buy it and see for yourself. Anyway, this game is great and I love it. I think you will too.
okay could be better

if you like games with awesome background graphics this would be a great one but, the characters on this game remind me of playstation graphics.the game is pretty detailed with what the characters have to say like a guard talks to you about joining the imperial legion and a villager talks about local problems. another thing, the loading takes like five minutes be prepared to wait before playing.the weapons that you get on Morowind are incredible from hammers to longswords and even magic weapons.all in all this game is a great buy and I'm sure fables gonna be even better.
Possibly the greatest RPG ever!

With massive worlds and an in-depth story The Elder Scrolls 3:Morrowind is possibly the best RPG in the market. You can interact with anybody and almost anything, and make spells, potions, and customize your inventory with weapons, clothes, and magic. The graphics could have been done a little bit better for a game that was made in 2003, but overall this game desevers attention from everyone and a must have in any video game library.
Challenging, but awesome!

This game was a gift to my son, who is 25 and usually beats Xbox games in the first few days of owning them. It has taken a couple of years of work, and my son Frank still has not completed this game. He loves it and so do I. I am 46, female, and enjoy this game for all of its challenges, and boy does it have some! Thanks for creating such a great game.
Perfection for an RPG

This is worth buying for any RPG player (they have first and third, but first is better). Biggest map I've seen on any RPG ever. For the people who give this bad reviews because the combat system is bad, the sound is bad, it's buggy, bad graphics, bad dialogue, "...fable is soooooooooooooooo much better.", and that you need to read, they all suck. They're all lazy. They're lazy because: "Oh no! Reading? In a video game? I'd rather die!" I am not a reader; I play video games, or an instrument or something. But that doesn't matter! If you're squinting, adjust the picture. The screen I play on is somewhere around 17"-20", and it's not high-def, flat-screen, or anything, and I see fine.
"The graphics aren't good." The graphics are great for two reasons: It hard to make an open-ended RPG have amazing graphics (take WoW, Everquest 1 or 2, Guild Wars, etc.), and because it came out in 2002 for the Xbox. The PC version came out first, and they didn't change the graphics.
"It's too buggy." See above (it's a large, open-ended RPG, or it could be your Xbox).
"The dialogue is bad." So? Deal. It's not that bad when you don't listen to it.
"The sound is repetitive and bad." Are you kidding? The music is awesome! I play in the school orchestra, and I know how hard it is to make something sound good. Also, the music isn't supposed to be in-your-face, and blaring (which is one of the problems in Far Cry: Instincts). I do agree that some of the sound effects can get annoying, but you get used to it if you'd TRY.
"I can't hit anything!" I will agree that the combat system doesn't make sense, that you should be able to hit people every time if you're aiming at them, and that you should be able to have a block button, but they've fixed that in TES IV: Oblivion. Again, TRY it for longer than 10 minutes, or two hours; try it for a couple days.
"fable is soooooooooooooooo much better." ...?
Are you insane?! Fable is not anywhere close to Morrowind, especially GOTY edition. Fable is good, but it's too comical, linear, not enough weapons, armor and items, and an impossible amount of what stuff you can carry. I mean, you can carry an infinite number of items, but you can only carry one of the same weapon or piece of armor? Oh, and if you say KOTOR is better, don't make me laugh. I stopped playing because the combat system is the worst I've seen in any game. Apparentely they changed it in KOTOR 2.
To summarize: It rocks, whiners suck, it's better than KOTOR and Fable.
Flame on, whiners.
Gonna be really good!

Morrowind was a huge hit on XBOX but two expansion packs plus patches fixing bugs and adding some additions and such was for PC and morrowind GOTY will have all of that and you can continue any save from morrowind! And then you should trade in morrowind or give it to a friend who can't afford it. Sound worth it too me! This game comes out on October 17th, 2003! Roll on, Morrowind GOTY!
absolutly amazing
