Too Much To Say, Not Enough Time

I was pleasantly surprised by this game! I bummed it off a buddy for $10 and I can really say that it was one of the best (video game) purchases I've ever made. I got it with Halo, so you can guess where my priorities were, but the roles of the game were soon flipped when I realized how addictive Morrowind was. I'm the sort of gamer who loves to be able to get neck deep in storylines and, while this game isn't a game that focuses on extravogent storylines, the control over this game is really in the hands of the gamer. Within the first 10 minutes you're given choices that will change certain points of the game. You pretty much get to build your character from the ground up.... or at least from the neck up.

Again, the storyline isn't exactly award winning, but it's interesting enough that you'll soon find yourself spending hours on end completing quests (just for the main plot) to see what happens next. There are practically NO cutscenes, but everything stays active as long as you read what other people tell you. If you don't, you'll find yourself frustrated because you don't know what to do and your journal isn't giving you enough to go on. So, reading skills are great, but I found that the reading wasn't so bad as it kept you interested and didn't drag on forever.

Sometimes you'll feel like you're just a messenger boy, but you always have to option of cutting someone's head off or making the wrong person mad to make things fun again. Hey, if they attack you then you can kill them and loot their body and no one will question it. How great is that?!

There are a few major problems that can get gamers ticking. Like the flawed combat system, which will leave beginners overwhelmed because they're getting killed by common rats. But, faithful gamers, there's light at the end of the tunnel! Just reach level 30 and I promise that everything will be better! *snickers* Oh yeah, and just remember: if you kill the wrong person you can mess the entire storyline up... that's not good.

There are TONS of stuff to do and HOURS upon HOURS of sidequests (cults, clans, guilds, people's problems) and searching to do. I spent an entire afternoon just cruising around the continent of Morrowind (which is, what... 16 square miles I think they said?) looking for sunken ships and caves. This little game pretty much took over my life for 8 months. That's how into it I got. Most people won't spend the hours I spent on it, but if you're willing to put at least 30 hours into it (just to get started) then I promise it will take over your life as well. Enjoy! Go buy it now!!

Love it!

This game is so immersing! There are so many things to see and do that you could spend YEARS of your life trying to find it all! It has great graphics and a storyline that keeps you interested. I have started over playing this game a couple times because I forgot where exactly I was in a previous game. Definite 5 star replay value.

What Killed Me Were the Load Times

Morrowind is an incredible game, but it really loses its flair on the XBOX.

Don't get me wrong, this game will probably be the best RPG you ever will pick up in a long time. But when you play this game on the XBOX, you are treated to horrid load times. The game takes over 3 minutes to just load initially. You have to load every area you go into, and if you die, you have to load the game 3 more minutes. You spend more time looking at the load screen than you will actually playing.

After getting frustrated with the load times, and sometimes having it freeze on the XBOX, I gave up and bought a PC version of MW.
I kept hearing that this game would take forever to load on the PC, but it took less than 6 seconds overall. My computer isn't beefy either. The graphics engine is much improved from the XBOX, and since you're using a mouse (which is what the game is inteded to use with), the interfaces are a breeze to go through.

In terms of the gameplay, you wont find another text-heavy, total immersion game such as this. Rather than leave a long winded review on what I thought of the mechanics, I encourage you to read others reviews. They pretty much sum up exactly how I felt while playing this game. THis is a must have if you enjoy RPGs; it's that good. Just don't buy it for the XBOX. You will get a reduced graphics engine, and incredibly long load times.

Too much to take in!!!!!!!!

This game is awesome. You start on a prison ship docked at a town named Seyda Neen or something. You create your name first. Then you go up on land and tell this guard your race and gender. Most of the races I've never heard of.The game proves its creativity by not offering humans. Most of the races dont represent humans,so be creative.

Next you head into a building and pick your class. The classes determine which attributes your are stronger with.Or you can create your class(you pick your attributes.)Then you pick the sign your born under. This just gives you more spells you can use pretty much.Thats right spells. You have magic.

After that your on your own.You should give the ring the game tells you to find in a bucket in the begining to a guy named Fargoth. If you have good medium or heavey armor skills,go buy some armor at the tradehouse. And always buy a sword or weapon because the daggers terrible.

For people who need money,go into someones house and kill the owner. Then steal everything in the house/hut/cave etc. Then sell it all.I know, its a bad habit. But it works.By the way,you kill the person because if people catch you stealing, they start to kill YOU.

This game offers a HUGE world to explore.Im still exploring. For beginers,I suggest not trying to kill guards or anything on Solstheim exept for wolves.

I'm pretty much done with advice. One more thing. For people who think the loading screen takes to long, get a grip.It takes 65 seconds on my Xbox.Surley thats not to long on your time?

Enjoy the game!

Many people before me writing there reveiws have said this the greatest rpg of all time, while i have to admit this is one of the better rpg's and mabye one of the best rpg for Xbox, their are definitly better games then this. Sure their are many paths you can take to play this game but it pales in comparison to the infinate choices you make in Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.
In Arcanum you can complete the whole game without picking up a weapon; i actually have done ecaclty that with a charismatic gnome
The illustrius title for the best RPG has to be a three way tie of
-Everquest(and all its expansions, everquest 2 has me drooling with anticipation)
-Star Wars KOTOR (my personal favorite)
-City of Heroes (even though it has just recently came the number of subscribers combined with future patches will make it a fantastic game)

But i digress, this game is a great buy for any hardcore gamer, it has few noticable flaws and the pros heavily outwheigh the cons

The RPG of all time i think not, a great game that will supply you with hours of fun now that is this game

morrowind is better than world of warcraft!!!!

I had my doubts with this game. I thought this would be like a game where you suck all the way through until the end where you become GOD for the last battle and you dont get to continue playing. But this isnt like that.
I love to theive in games, so i will write about what ive done. I create my character and i head for the light house, steal 35 gold and sword, kill the owner, take their armor, and since i am an inch out of town gaurds dont care.
My other example is I have a mission to go and find town gaurd, i go in gaurd tower, find crate of armor, take it, I get caught, kill gaurd thats after me, run outside to local weapon shop, take spear and kill owner, run out, spear all guards, and run to another town.
TOTAL FREEDOM!!!!!o, and being a vampire or werewolf is sweet to.

Best RPG I have ever played! from Joe - a 12 year old

Greastest RPG I have ever played. Period. Nuff Said

First of all, you can pick a race and a class. There are many races in this game, varying from a tiger/human, a barbaric human, an orc, and a lizardman. Each race has certain strenghts and weaknesses in the game. While some excel in the magical arts, some excel more in the combat area. What race you pick is up to you.

A "class" is a sort of like a job in the gaming world. A class can be a no-good guile theif, or a powerful wizard. Here are some of the classes you can choose:

Mage
Nightblade
Warrior
Rougue
Theif
Healer
Barbarian
Monk

-and many others
All of these classes differ because they have certain skill attribute boosts. Every character you can pick starts of with a certain amount of "skill" in these skills. The class you pick boosts some of these skills. For example, a theif would boost

Sneak- sneaking ability, vital for stealing items or pickpocketing
Acrobatics-the ability to jump and move around better
Security-ability to pick locks on treasure chests

- and others

There are many ways you can determine you class too. A man can ask you questions, you can pick your class, or pick certain skills and attributes to make your strong points.

This game is so distinct because of its hugeness. You can explore the world for literally months. It is a vast world with weather and different landforms. You can never actually complete this game 100%, unless you get all the items, complete every single quest (there are so many!), side quest, explore the world, get all the weapons, armor, talk to everyone, and so on. Morrowind:Game of the Year combines all of the different Morrowinds (which include Morrowind, Morrowind:Tribunal, and Morrowind:Bloodmoon) So, all of these games give you so much new gameplay.

Besides a few minor bugs, and the graphics aren't "the best", Morrowind, in my opinion, is near perfect. Even a 12 year old loves like me loves this games. Morrowind is a different RPG.

My only problem is me starting all new files! I can never stick to one file! There are so many ways to play the game and have fun in it. All the people to interact to, all the things to collect, sell, buy, and use, make Morrowind the best with tons of reply value.

Really think of buying this game

10 stars!

Great! But could of been awsome.....

Now this game is a real trip. You start off as a prsion kept whatever on a boat to Vvardenfall and youre treated as a peice of crap by everyone. Once you've made you charcter and blah blah blah. The game gets intresting. Youre free to do whatever you want pretty much and trust me when I say it theres is plenty to do. I was a knight and joined the fighters guild and Impreial legion ( Army of Morrowind ). Now Me and my buddies spend hours doing a bunch of crap on here and we mean it when we say it its way to big! I've gotten lost in the wild for hours and hours and was bored out of my mind!

You would totally expect boundries for this game but nope.. Its all walk, kill, and keep moving over and OVER! This game is awsome though by its character creation and hours of playibity o do whatever you want. Like me and buddies we just go around stealing stuff, killing, and exploring.

Now Heres a great idea. Make a game just like this only with some boundries and durning the 21st century! It would be cool but I love this game but gets incredible boring and a huge snoorfest after a while.

a classic!
