Morrowind- #1 RPG Game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 5

If you're a RPG lover than The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition (GOTY) is a must have. Nine playable races, a wide arsenal of weapons, armor, and spells, large maps, stunning graphics, what doesn't this game have. You have a wide variety of classes and if you don't like the options, then you can make your own class. This game is packed with every thing a RPG gamer would want.

Clarifying some points...

Well, I agree with ninety percent of the people here who say that it's a great game... in fact, it's really the only reason to own an xbox. Let's face it, sony and nintendo have the majority of good games. Anyway, let me clarify a few points made by some of the other people-
Long load times: Only when starting a new game or loading a save, either of which takes a little over 60 seconds. In-game load times are brief and rarely more than a second.
Stability issues/freezing: depends on which version of the game you have. The original release of the game will quite literally start locking up about every twenty minutes once you put about 30-50 hours onto a save. This problem was fixed in the GOTY version and I've only had it freeze twice in the countless hours I've logged (and both times were caused by a glitch in one of the assassin guild missions, not from instability issues).
Weak/no plot: baseless, if anything there are too many plots and sub-plots to keep track of, both in the main storyline(s) and among the guild houses. The main storyline starts out a bit slow but is well worth the trouble.
Too much text/extraneous text: it's a motherf***ing rpg, what did you expect?
Imbalanced Character levelling: unfortunately, or fortunately if you like to cheat, the rules that underline the character creation and levelling tends to incourage abuse and the creation of unstoppable power characters. This is not entirely a bad thing but it tends to suck some of the fun out of playing when none of the monsters or brigands in the game can possibly hurt you in any way, also, by the time you reach level 25-40 your character will have become an unstoppable god-like being even without abusing the system. Bethesda has said that they've fixed this problem in the upcoming Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion game.
Insufficient Quest Journal: it COULD use an option to sort by completed/pending quests but it does have the option to search by specific keywords, which works well enough as long as you don't take on too many quests at a time.

A great RPG, if you have TIME!

This game is essential for anyone who considers oneself a real fan of RPG (role playing games). It compacts real time, weather and many many different quests so that the user will absolutely never play the same game twice. Don't get me wrong - it has it's drawbacks like cheesy graphics here and there. Or the fight sequences, giving the user ALL the control isn't always the best thing. I love Final Fantasy Games, but as a fan this is not that alley way. For hard core RPG fans it is crucial to check this out. Definately those who own an Xbox should rent it and make a character. Decide for a bit of money by renting whether you should slap the full amount down to buy it. But believe you won't regret it, since it easily has over a hundred hours of game play! And that is just with one character. If you need strict direction, you may get lost with too many choices. But if you love the freedom a game has never had like this before - this may be the right RPG for you.

This game can keep you behind the TV screen for literally hundreds of hours until that one fateful day whan you realized that the Xbox freezing up has reached the point where you really cant proceed in the gameplay. There is really nothing worse than having to hang it up after so many hours of truely wonderful gameplay never having seen the end.

bugs!

i have played the game of the year xbox edition for a little over an hour now, it has seriously crashed twice ( game totally freezes, had to reboot the xbox), i just turned it off in frustration.even worse is the eternal loading times (feels like close to five minutes to reload after you die) and the slowdown problems (game stutters constantly). i put about 40 hours into the original xbox morrowind and i didnt have any problems like this with it, this is very disappointing....

don't start this unless you have a lot of time

very rarly do i find a game that consumes me...very rarly do i find a game that has me thinking about it during the day,or builds anticipation till the next time i can play.
this game is not for everyone...this game is for the types of people who looked for every package in grand theft auto, who like to look in every nook and cranny of a game.its all about exploring and then being rewarded for your efforts.
if you like to buy a game and beat it in a week so you can trade it in...then this game is not for you.
role playing games have bored me to tears since final fantasy 7.(which i had to force myself to finish)
they usually have great eye-candy...decent story and thats it...
most of the time i would rather read the story in a book than kill 70 more bushes until i get enough hit points to further the story along.with morrowind the story is perceived rather than told...you could go through this a hundred times and it would be different..
this is a go anywhere do anything type of game...similar to grand theft auto.
you can explore on your own or you can do missions,
there is an underlying story so that if you followed all the main missions you could beat this in roughly 40 hours...i have played for weeks at a time and not even been concerned with the main missions.
the biggest flaw with this game is that it is so engrossing that your almost afraid to start it up again because it will eat up all your time..

This game rocks!!!

I will admit I was a bit tied up at times with school but if possible make time. This game is roughly over a hundred hours of game play. If you are a true hard core RPG fan and you have an XBOX you will buy this game; That is an order. The class race and skills system is incredibly and undoubtably the best. From a rugged head strong Nord adventurer to a Mage with a wide spread magic system you can be just about anything. Just travelling to a city close by can take hours and quests are endless it seems. Though the battle sequences are a bit boring and take years(not literally)and are stiff action. That was the only draw back I can come up with.
The bartering in this game is very realistic aswell. Shop owners or traders only have so much monet=y and buy and sell things at jacked up prices. Most are lucky who find rich traders. There are many diffrent and beautiful scenery and surroundings. From rocky grass lands to steep jagged grey mountains and lakes that look as though they are real. This game gives you the great RPG feeling that RPG fans have awaited for.
What realy intrigues alot of people is the race and class system. You can take a series of questions that chooses your race from your answers, you can choose it yourself , or you can make your own from choosing diffrent skills that gives your character its distinct diffrences and race. I've touched up on most that there is without a story and with Tribanul and Bloodmoon well on the way there will be even more RPG fun to be had in the wide spread world of Morrowind(which is actually is only a country surrounded by about 5 other large world like countries)This game will reign suppreme amongst all the RPG games.

WORST Rpg EVER

This is the WORST Rpg I have ever played.
Cons:
Horrible graphics {Xbox is capable of soooo much more}
Horrible dialog {when you talk to people they say really dumb things.}

In order to save time i will just say that almost everything about this game sucked and if you want a fun rpg go pick up fable.

PS. the good thing about this game is that you can create male and female characters. And there is alot of free exploring. but fable is soooooooooooooooo much better.

One of the most overated games of all time!

How can this game get game of the year? I have been very disapointed with two RPG games I recently have bought Morrowind and Ultima IX. Ultima IX a game the critics pounced on and gave horrible reviews I feel was actually a better game. At least Ultima IX has a more interesting story and better quest system. I loved this game the first couple hours I played it, but after the first week my interest in the game started to diminish. In the begining I assumed it would get better later on, I assumed there would be new monsters I would face, I assumed after I explored my first dungeon that they all would look unique and be different, I was wrong. Many of the monsters seem to inherit the same look as other monsters the only thing that differentiates them is the name at the top. For instance a slave, a vampire, an npc, and your own character all can look exactly the same if say they are all dark elfs. I was very dissapointed with the vampires in this game. I was expecting to see a monster with pale skin, wearing a black cape, has fangs, and floats across the floor. Instead vampires look just like any other NPC or character of that race. I was also disapointed with the bosses in this game. In Diablo II and Baldurs Gate bosses had a unique look and actually looked fearsome, not so All the dugneons and caves in this game look like they were just cut & pasted. In Baldurs gate and Diablo II each dungeon looked different and had a unique theme with mosnters unique to that dungeon, not so in morrowind. After you have been in one dungeon you have been in all of them. I also was expecting the dungeons to have a more creepier look and really did not care for the U.S. Steel look.

Oh and the missions, well they were really fun at first, but after a while you relize they are the same fed-ex type missions. Go kill so and so and report back to me, go steal/buy something and report back to me, please escort John Doe somewhere and report back to me. I was expecting a more origional quest system implemented than simply the Everquest Fed-Ex system. After a while all this runing back and forth gets very annoying, tiring, and old.

Ok I'm gonna try to break this whole game down for ya. In the begging your just a bum with out a life, no one likes you, no one takes notice to you... but as you go along with the game you slowly get noticed as your reputation grows by joining factions, and doing quests. There are 4 types of quests... there's the main quest, side quests, guild quests, and romance quests (only do able if your a male)and please note it has nothing to do with inoproret situations. You just do favors for a girl who likes you. Any way... this game is huge literally. Your on a island and there's nothing thats stopping you from exploring! In this game your totally free to do what you want when you want. You don't have to do any of the types of questsyou could just run around killing monsters the game is never over, you always still have something to do, you can do the quests, explore tombs, explore mines, and go kill kwana warriors at an egg mine, there are so many things to do i couldn't possibly name them all.
When you first start you are in total control of everything to do about your character... You get to pick a name, species, gender, skills, and job... my character for example:
Name:Blade
Species:Dark Elf
Gender:Male
Job:Warrior
Major Skills:Heavy Armor, Short Blade, Long Blade, Athletics, and Acrobatics
Minor Skills:Achelemy, Secuirity, Block, Mercintile, and Speechcraft
Hope that cleared a bit up. Oh one last thing you get to custimize hair and face =8^).As you progress you notice that you dont need to have weapons armor and types of magic in your major and minor skills to use it it's just the higher the level it is the more effective it is. There are tones of shops in Vvanderfall (yes there are 2 v's) in which you can buy weapons, armor, scrolls, candles (great for christmas decorations(yes I got bored so i put up lights for christmas)),rings, gloves, and many other things. you can steal things or kill people, but carful if your caught you either have to go to jail or pay a fine or if your in to much trouble you have a death worrent, each crime your caught doing puts a bounty on your head. i'll update this later it's just that im lazy and am tired of typing but bottom line GET THE GAME!!!!! IT'S AWESOME!!!!!!!!
