The best football game ever to come out

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 5

I just got my PS2 yesterday and one of the games I brought is Madden 2001. Up till now I thought that NFL Gameday was the best football game I have ever played. Madden 2001 blows Gameday out of the water by far. The graphics are so lifelike and the detail of the game are far better then I ever thought they would be. The graphics during a play looks like you are watching tv, and the closeups after the play are even better. This is just the beginning of the talk about Madden 2001 for PS2, there are so many other things that make this the best football game ever to be released. This is a must have for the playstation 2.

Best Sports Game for PS2

Let me start by saying the more I play the game the better it gets, which is very unusual for a sports game, but I still keep discovering little nuances. I played football and this game is too realistic. Everything from lining up to kick the ball to the manner in which players make a tackle. There are only a flew flaws, such as it is difficult to defend the pass and the safeties are never deep enough. Besides that the game is unbelievable. It has around 5 skill levels and I have yet to figure out how to beat the computer on All-Madden mode, but All-Pro is competitive. The levels below these two are much too easy. I need to adjust the quarters for 7 minutes for realistic stats. There is no need to rent the game, if you are a football fan and you want a realistic game, this is the game to buy. It is not like NFL Blitz (which I hate), its strength is realism. The detail of the game is great. And the playbook varies based on the team. I just wish the defensive playbook would also vary. Which reminds me of another flaw, is that it is difficult to get a sack against the computer. But another great part of the game is that when you hit the quarterback as he releases the pass the pass either floats or is thrown short. The defensive backs are a little to quick in the game. Your receiver could be wide open but a DB can come from 10 yards away and get there to break up the pass. I can see if it were Deon Sanders or something, but nearly everyone DB can get there. One last flaw is that most throws you cannot lead your receiver to catch it on stride. You can be doing a fade or some other deep pass and he has the DB beat but the quaterback throws it were the player is at instead of 5 yards in front of him. However, the positives far outweigh all the negatives. I really pointed out every flaw of the game, but I don't have the time nor the space to go over the positives. Just trust me and buy if it if you enjoy realistic sport games. One last note to EA Sports: What's up with the crowd? You created a great game with unbelievable detail, and you almost ruin it with the cartoon block figures you call a crowd. How about a few signs and some more detailed fans. I expect better from you, it is kind of disgusting that you just passed over it like that. Also how about making the celebrations specific to the team. For example, the Broncos should do the Mile High Salute. One last BIG thing, please for the sake of God give Madden about a thousand more lines, he repeats himself the whole game.

How do people review stuff before it comes out?

I'm sure this is going to be a great game(I pre-ordered a copy) but how do these people know seemingly everything about the game beforehand? It's not out yet!!

The Best Madden Ever

This Madden is Greatest in all of the land I've not been this excited since the old Sega (Joe Montana Football Days)...Nothing can compare to the realistic nature of this game. It looks like you are actually watching one with tickers and all. If you like Football, this is a must have for any sports freak. Can't wait till NCAA 2002 comes out for PS2.

No Defense

I am a big-time football gamer and this game is terrific. I am a little frustrated though at the inability to play defense. Typical games are shoot-outs. A balance of offense and defense is essential in football games. This one lacks that. The graphics are phenomenal and the game is fun, but defensive minded football gamers will be disappointed.

Awsome Game!

I haven't always been a big fan of football games but this one has got me hooked. The graphics are amazing. Gameplay is smooth and very realistic. One major improvment from past Madden games is the ability to rush the ball against the computer and actually gain positive yardage! Of course the commentary gets repetative but every now and then Madden will say something new about a player or team.

The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is because of the OBVIOUS, what I like to call, "computer cheat factor". Anyone who's played sports games knows what I'm talking about. When the computer throws for 300 yards and scores 21 points in the FIRST HALF while you can't do anything but throw interceptions and fumble the ball! It's not all the time but every so many games it seems You are going to lose no matter what. That's just kind of annoying.

Over all though, AWSOME GAME!

Best game out so far!

Let me start off by saying, if you're not a football fan, don't...what am I saying? I don't care if you HATE sports. BUY THIS GAME!!!! The graphics are AMAZING! "It's the little things that kill." That quote stands true for this game. For example, when it's cold outside and you can see the players' breath or when you "ask the coach" and you can view the QB struggling to hear what he has to say. That's just the look of the game.

Now it's time for the feel baby! It's obvious that games are primarily bought for two reasons: look and feel. Well, you know how it looks, but you may not quite know how it feels. Well, let me just tell you then. This game is smooth as HELL!!!! Everything about it is perfect. And the AI is very strong. It's definitely not that easy to score on the computer (depending on the level of play).

All in all, I must say that this game gets 10 STARS! I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.....wait! Yes I do. One small problem. Everyone's eyes look stoned. But, hey, that's pretty funny, so I see that as a bonus. So anyway, once again, BUY THIS GAME!!!!!

Not Bad, But not great

I must admit that expectations were extremely high before playing this game. I have owned a Dreamcast for a year, but was really anticipating the PS2 and love the Madden Series. This game has a lot of flaws. The graphics are good at certain times, but the close ups show the players and they look silly (big, buggy eyes). THe game play is so, so and has more the feel of the first NFL2k game on DC. NFL2K1 for Dreamcast is far and away the best football game ever made. What a disappointment this game was, and really the system for that matter. DC prices are low, so buy one and if you want a DVD player, buy one separartely. This game seems like it was put together in a rush so it could be out when the system was released.

Yes only three stars and here's why.

You know I've read review after review about this game and I like the Madden series usually. I've only played games on a pc before acquiring my PS2 so my expectations were a little ambitious with this title, here's my feelings on it. Graphics of on play players and detail unmatched, great and almost flawless. My problem comes from a couple of different areas, gameplay (unrealistic) and audio. The problem I have with gameplay is the unrealistic scoring and catches that are made on both sides of the ball. I have just finished my first two games of a season (although) I have played more games than that, and I scored over 70 points in each game while holding my opponents to under 60. COME ON how realistic is that? Ever watch a game on Sunday where the score ended up 70 something to 60 something, I haven't. Ever see a game with over 900 yards passing, I have in Madden. Very unrealistic. The problem I have with the audio is that the phrases that Madden says are the same 10 or so phrases and they get repeated and repeated and repeated throughout the game, very annoying. They could have done a better job with the audio. I was very disappointed with the entire package of this game, especially after reading all of the great reviews out there about this game. If this game is one for you and you purchase it, don't play full 15 minute quarters, three reasons number one, there is no saving in mid game (which I'm used to on the pc), two Madden's sayings get annoying, and three the score will be way too high.
