Disapointing...

Ugh... is all I can say to start out. First and foremost, this is not a game for the people who ABSOLUTELY LOVED the movie. This is for the book readers only. I bought this game one day with the great hope of going home and reliving the great tale. I was so disapointed when I found out what a piece of [junk] this game was. Sure, being Aragorn was great... for about a whole 5 minutes. And then, the tedius missions started to set in. Not to mention, in the beginning, it took me seven tries just to get passed the stupid Black Riders. I mean, why must it be this hard?!?! And most of all... the ending. Ugh. I won't ruin it for you avid gamers, but lets just say, it was so disapointing that I dont want to bring it up. Do not buy this game. Dont even think about it. I know that I'm going to buy the Two Towers and enjoy playing as Legolas. :)

Greatest disappointment ever for an expensive game.

This is the first game that I bought for the PS2.
I expected much more from a 2nd generation console-game.
The graphics were average.
But most of all, the game is too short. I finished the game in about four hours. The game is not challenging hard, in other words too easy.
Especially at the beginning of the game the events start happening really slowly. (get the note from the chest, bring them to bla bla) Too easy puzzles, etc.
It looks like this game was developed within a month.

I am usually not so critical, but this game doesn't get my credits... waste of money. (sorry)

IT [WASN'T HARD!]

I wouldn't even spend [$$]for this game. Three days and I beat this game. Slight challenge beating the nazgul at the end, but nothing else. Graphics are disappointing, no secret finds, no group battling, no side adventures. My 5 year old would be more challenged by this game than a teenager. Playstation should take this game off the market and produce one that is worthy of putting playstation 2 on its label.

this game []really deserves 0 stars

This game had so much potential, but didn't come near it. Gandalf was a fun character to play, but he didnt last long. I beat this game in about 3-4 hours. It was just way to easy and the controls were pretty scratchy. I would not recommend this game to anyone. Some of the graphics were pretty sweet, but it was inconsistent. I accidnetly bought this game thinking it was the 2 towers, now I dont know if I will even get that game

Mediocre game

Okay, gamers are really tough on this game. Hey, I don't blame them, it's supposed to be a top-notch game just like the Lord of the Rings movies and books. And I would have to agree with the gamers. Rent this one only if you are a true fan, and only buy this game if you're a total LOTR freak, like me. I even bought the guide. Okay enough about me...

The bad things:
-Choppy game play (the screen flashes when a lot of characters are moving around)
-If you ever watch G4-TV then you probably know about a show called Portal, this game reminds me of that show. Some of the CG characters are just plain goofy.
-The game is very restrictive; usually you must stick to the path, no exploring.
-The ringwraiths are very frustrating in the beginning of the game.
-Howard Shore did NOT compose the music for this game.
-There is no time to prepare for another level; this is a problem when you're Frodo, especially.
-You cannot wear the ring for more than a few seconds. (Well, Frodo shouldn't be wearing it anyways, so I'll let this slide. Plus, there's a cheat code that let's you wear the ring always.)
-The game feels like it's missing something; maybe they should have given you more characters to control. You know, as the game went on, I should have been able to pick and choose the characters I wanted, and maybe they could each have had an inventory that interacted with stats, so I could build them up, etc. Oh, wait that's Diablo. LOL. So, a lot more development could have gone into this game. I wanted to play as Boromir, oh well.

The good things:
-It has the Lord of the Rings written on the cover.
-It was cool getting to be inside Bag End, and walk around hobbiton, and different parts of middle-earth even though it was kinda cheesy.
-Fans of the books will kind of appreciate the parts that were missing from the films.

Finally, I think this could have been a great PS2 game, maybe an action/adventure/RPG with a multi-player online option. But, alas, it's just a wanna-be, in my LOTR collection.

It was fun while it lasted...

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is overall a good game to beat. It should really be 3 1/2 stars but not worthy of 4 stars. The hardest part of the game is escaping the dark riders at the beginning of the game. If you can conquer that then you can conquer anything else in the game b/c that part is the most frustrating. I bought the pre-owned game with high expectations...I'm a big fan of the N64 game Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In comparison, Zelda kicks you know what, but if you want to kill some hours of the day and enjoy some good visual effects go for it. I liked the game but there wasn't a variety of enemies to fight nor were there enough orcs. I was slightly disappointed, but the game stuck to the movie itself. As for difficulty rating, it would be easy for a 12 year old gamer to beat within 3-5 days or less. I beat the game in less than a day; it is a short role playing game as the main characters in alternating scenes. Don't buy it new...buy it for less at Amazon.com

I am tired of reading reviews complaining about The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring PlayStation2 game being boring! This game is not boring. I mean sure it starts out slow; but it gets pretty exciteing whenever you have to begin your quest to Rivendell. Running and hiding from the black riders; fighting off huge spiders, trolls, orcs, and more foes; And exploring the land about is NOT boring. This game is actually pretty fun.
