The Lord of the Rings: Te Fellowship of the Ring is the game that spawned all of the hype about the Loard fo the Rings games that got progressively better, The Two towers was great but the Return of the King topped it all off.
But the Fellowship of the Ring is a lot of fun too, it's just like the 2 sequels, but a little bit worse, of course it was a great start, and in fact, this game is a lot of fun, considering how loathly it seems compared to it's spawn.
In this game you can play as gandalf, and who wouldn't want to do that? You gan gain new moves and attacks, as well as be able to destroy thosands of Orks.
Overview:
Fun- 10/10 A lot of fun to kill the evil powers. And figure out this callenging game.
Graphics- 7/10 Dwarfed by it's others.
Gameplay- 9/10 a lot of fun to terminate enemies. And build up gandalf.
Difficulty- 10/10 Mentally and Physically challenging.
Overall-36/40
This game is a lot of fun to play, but I would get either Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, or Return of the king, there really isn't a reason to buy this game with all of the greater games out there.
Great for Tolkien fans

Objectively examined in light of gaming principles this game leaves a great deal to be desired. But looked at as a fan of JRRT as well as a gamer I am compelled to give FOTR a 5 star rating. The graphics (which require a 128 meg card for full expression) are a gorgeous representation of middle earth, especially the Shire. The most enjoyable aspect of the game is not gameplay but rather the music and mood and walking around the Shire. Later games in this series feature more action and swordplay but FOTR more truly captures the world feel of JRRT's creation. This game is more suited to lovers of the book than fans of the movie and perhaps should be played more in the spirit of a renactment than an open-ended adventure.
better off renting

I bought this game three days ago. I was very excited about this one. Upon playing the game, my excitement turned to disappointment. This game was horrible. Incredibly ridiculous. The graphics were bland to say the least. The game has all these little mini missions just before you really get into the adventure. How are you supposed to get past the riders. I mean this is plain dumb. One word : disappointing

I enjoyed the gameplay enough for the first level or so, up until the part where you are supposed to sneak past the Black Rider outside of Sam's house. I spent a long time trying to do it but kept being instantly killed, no matter what I tried. This kind of difficulty can be justified if it has been worked up to, but here it's much too sharp of a drop off delivered way too soon. One minute you're rounding up cuddly lost farm animals for smiley Neighbor What's-His-Face and the next you're being mercilessly bludgeoned with the icy black hand of GAME OVER.
For my taste, the graphics and visual design are a bit cartoonish, but not bad by any means. The storytelling [of the game itself as differentiated from the source material] and general gameplay are acceptable too. However, none were amazing enough to justify enduring the frustration of an hour spent trying repeatedly to sneak past that irritating Black Rider. I sold my copy to a resale shop after a few weeks.
Horrible game, avoid at all costs....

Wow, what a let down. Here's the short version.
1. Horrible control. Very awkward, especially the camera. Worst camera I've seen in a game like this in a long long long time.
2. Short/small/linear. Laughably short. I beat this game in 5 hours. No cheats, no hints,....so short, so easy, just.... laughable.
Go buy/rent Drakan the Ancients gate. Uses a similar engine (the good parts done by surreal), but just a much much much better game, in every way imaginable.
I certainly wouldn't recommend buying this, and I be hard pressed to even recommend renting it, it's not even worth the 6 bucks it cost to rent....what a let down, avoid at all costs.
Its Too Bad That There Won't Be A Sequel To This Game...

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is a fun game, in my opinion. Being a huge fan of Tolkien I must say that I love playing this game. I just love everything about it! I just can't help myself. I highly recommend this game to other hard-core Lord of the Rings fans out there.
But it is just too bad that there won't be a sequel to this game. The Lord of the Rings: The Treason of Isengard, the would-be sequel to this game was cancelled some time ago. Oh well...
That doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring game for the PS2. It is a great game!

After beating this game in one night, i realized that i had basically wasted my time. The game can be fun at times, but not often. Aragorn is fun, but he is lacking combat moves. If you're a fan of the movie as well as the book, i would recommend this game as no more than a rental. This game claims to be based off the book, but there are lots of lines, word for word, from the movie, and there are many levels and tasks that aren't in the book or the movie. Bottom line, if your looking for a good LOTR game, buy the Two Towers. It's much more fun.
** Great game for Tolkien fans! **

I am 13 years old and I got this game for Christmas. It is one of my most favorite games. It lets you explore more of Tolkien's world. This is a must for true J.R.R Tolkien fans. I know that other people are disapointed because of the attention to every single deatail (like collecting water lillies with Tom Bombadile) and it is also a very challenging game , but thats the fun of it (I wouldn't pay attention to game reviews in magazines that give this game a low rating, I would give it a try.) NOTE: this the book version of the game.* (( I would also buy the stratagey guide )) *
