I just got a preview copy of this game and it is great. The characters look terrific for the PS2 and the combat system is awesome.

Gandalf is by far the coolest character to play.

The combat in this version vs the Xbox version is way better; its more cooler looking and more fun.

This is a great game!

Tech TV gave this 2 out of 5

Overall, "Fellowship" has a rushed and incomplete feel to it. Very little of Tolkien's trademark atmosphere is present in the game, and none of the environments truly feel like a living world at all. Key sequences are diminished by cut corners or perhaps technical limitations, such as the Council of Elrond scene. Apparently there were only so many character models to go around, as the council consists solely of the nine members of the Fellowship and Elrond.

Stunning graphics and combat

I was so excited when I played this game, it has a very smooth and easy to control combat system. The context-sensitive attacks are really fun to pull off. Frodo starts out a bit slow, but then Aragorn and Gandalf are really good, and the game really REALLY picks up from there! Later I realized that Frodo's gameplay consists more of stealth and sneaking around. You can use his rocks to distract enemies it's really fun. The lighting and details are above average for the PS2, definitely.

This game is fun. The characters are some of the best I have seen on the PS2 and combat is very fun. It kind of reminds me of Ominusha meets Maximo.

The story is fairly well told. The last too levels of the game are great. You get to play with Gimli, Legolas and Boromir. The trolls are really cool!

Buy this game if you like fun action/adventure in a Tolkien world.

The Lord Of The Rings The Fellowship Of The Ring is an awsome game for the Playstation2. The graphics are great and the movement of the game is not hard at all to control. The orcs and trolls are fun to fight in this game. The storyline in the game goes along very well with the book "The Fellowship Of The Ring By J.R.R. Tolkien." Tom Bombadil will appear in this game which is great! Considering he was an important character in the book. The Fellowship Of The Ring Video Game goes more by Tolkiens first book than in the movie trilogy.

Awesome, once you get past the beginning

A great addition to the fantasy world! The story is amazing--if you have read the book, it stays true, while if you have only seen the film, you are in for a pleasant surprise (wait until the Barrow Downs). Somwehat awkward in combat, since the camera doesn't follow you always and much of the movement is based on turning the camera... but easy to get accustomed to. The initial board, where Frodo must sneak past the Dark Riders is...tedious at best. Far too difficult, until you get a handle on it, than it should be. Must have saved and loaded a hundred times without exaggeration. A clear flaw. BUT once past, the game picks up speed and becomes an amazing adventure. Just enough NPC interraction and character switching to make it interesting. The switch from Frodo to Aragorn is welcome and signals the beginning of the action part of the game. Five stars overall, despite the (small) shortcomings, a fabulous game.

The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring was a wonderful idea. Black Label games has a good reputation and their game the Thing seems to be one of the reasons why. This game however is a definite pass. You start the game as Frodo which would be fine except that you aren't given any real sense of what to do. There is no map of the shire so all the quests you need to perform mean that you have to wander around to complete them rather than going straight to where you need to go. Also the load screens are many and take a VERY LONG TIME to get through. Maybe a mini game during them would help... I've heard that there are more errors and problems in the Xbox version so I decided to leave the game at the fact that they should have taken more time with this one. The game's graphics are not what they should be. The cut scenes are more what the graphics should be. Gandalf has been rendered very poorly in this game. The game could have been SO MUCH MORE. Hopefully the Two Towers which comes out on Thrusday will be better.
