Coming from someone who has waited years for this game and stood out in the cold until midnight with about 100 other diehard fans Smash Bros. Brawl is everything it was promised to be. It wont disappoint melee veterans who were skeptical on the new game play; and it definitely won't disappoint newcomers. The character roster is amazing and diverse. There is a character fitting every type of skill someone could want. The events are fun and there are tons of them. The trophies page is huge. So there are countless hours to be spent collecting them. There are a few drawbacks that will take some getting used to if you are a veteran but they are minor. Here's the lowdown.
Pros.
- Huge character roster.
- Has a pick up and play style but can still be hard to master if your serious about it.
- Very good graphics compared to the old super smash (duh it came out in 2001)
- There is actually a story mode this time around.
- You can spend an entire party playing this game with so many people!
Cons.
- The characters seem to be more evenly matched.
- It is slightly slower paced then melee which was lightning fast.
- No more Roy?!?!?! (Thats a personal one that most people wouldn't care about :p)
All in all its a great game that most people that own a wii will have by the end of the month. If your looking for hours of fun this game will definitely provide it. Highly recommended. And just a little advice. If you want to get really good at these games, go to a midnight release. You haven't seen nerdy until youv'e been to one. cheers.

Super Smash Bros. Melee quickly became a hit, making many huge improvements over its prececessory. There were more characters, better graphics, and all around more to do. But people still wanted more. Some of the moves could have used tightening up. More attention could have been paid to the single player modes, and more characters were always welcome.
Cue Brawl.
Huge, several-hour-long single player campaign is here along with the return of "Classic" mode where you go pick a character and fight several battles one after another. The Stadium matches with Target Test and Multi-Man Melee have returned with an additional "Boss Battle" mode unlockable after beating the main Adventure Mode, the Subspace Emissary.
Speaking of the Subspace Emissary--wow. It does get repetative near the end, but it's great to watch all of Nintendo's finest in glorious Wii graphics interact and fight through to the conspirator at the top. And Master Hand, the main boss of previous "Smash Bros." games, finally has his motives revealed.
Versus Mode, the main focus of Smash Bros. is largely the same with some tune-ups and small improvements. But it was great before and it's greater now.
New additions are a stage-creator, small previews of the game's characters' shining moments in their own games, an improvement on the Coin Lottery used for attaining Trophies in "Melee" and of course, at long last, Wi-Fi capabilities.
As for new characters: Meta Knight and King Dedede have made it from Kirby's universe. Ike comes to replace Roy from the land of Fire Emblem. Dr. Mario has been removed for being mostly pointless and a power suit-less "Zero Suit" Samus has joined at long last. Solid Snake, the legendary soldier from the spectacular Metal Gear Solid franchise made a surprising appearance along with Sega's speediest hedgehog, Sonic. All the characters, new and old, control flawlessly and fighting feels more gritty and visceral compared to the somewhat "floaty" actions in Melee.
And of course is the addition of the "Smash Balls" that, when borken, envoke tremendous power in whoever broke them, adding a new dynamic to gameplay.
I could go on about this for a long time, but I'll try to sum it up. If you liked either of the previous Smash Bros. games, you'll absolutely love this. If you've never played one, there's no better place to start than here. I played it for about eight hours on release yesterday and probably at least six today. It's that addictive! This is, without a doubt, the best game right now to own on the Wii.
Pick it up (if you can find it.) You won't regret it.

To start out, I love this game. Its one of the few games on the Wii that I have played that make the system almost worth getting(anyone who thinks that Super Mario Galaxy makes the Wii worth it should go replay it. Worst game I have ever played). Brawls replayability makes it perfect for large groups of people to enjoy hours of play.
Now you are probably wondering about the title to this review, "6 years apparently wasn't enough". For how fun this game is, some of the things that did make you wonder what the developers were doing all this time. Let's start with the online system. Some genius at Nintendo decided back in the day that Nintendo game consoles would use something call friend codes. These numbers have to be given to people who you want to play with online. There is a major flaw with this. If your code get reset you now have to give a new code to anyone you want to play with, and then get there code in. The second major problem with playing Brawl online is that there is no match making. All this time and delays they couldn't make a decent online system.
The character choice in Brawl is very disappointing. Very few of the newly introduced characters were decent(Ike, Meta Knight, Sonic), and a lot of the old characters were ruined(Ganondorf especially). Olimar, R.O.B., and Snake add nothing to the game.
The last problem with Brawl is sub space emmissary. Sub Space Emmissary gets old really quickly. Boss battles come from other boss battles with different characters(go battle the Purple dragon again and tell me thats not Master Hand).
Overall, this game is great. Just stick to Brawl mode. The rest of the game is not worth it.
Great game...

This game really is very awesome. I have yet to play online against someone. The servers that host this game as bogged down big time. This is my only complaint. Hurry and fix this issue Nintendo!
Must have for all Wii owners!

Even if you're not a big fighting game fan, Super Smash Bros Brawl is excellent. Playing local multiplayer with your friends or family is an absolute blast. You can create a profile name for everyone and the game will keep track of all your stats like KO's, favorite character, etc. There are tons of characters, tons of unlockables, a single player mode called the Subspace Emissary which puts all these random Nintendo characters in a story together, online support, a stage builder, and single player challenges. This is one of the deepest games I've purchased in a long time. It will easily be the top game on Wii for a while and is a must have for every Wii owner.

In anticipation for Smash Bros. I had it all planned out in perfect preperation: get all chores and homework done in advance, practice Melee for 2 weeks, get some friends pshyced up to, and wait for the Advent of fanboys, of course, Smash delivers.
Combat is a mirror to the previous installments, old vets like Samus, Link, and(of course) Mario have same movements/controles from Smash Melee. Everythings A-OK with the Gamecube's controller, but if you're a newbie and mistakingly try to play with the remote and/or nunchick, you might wanna go back to Gamestop and shell out 20 for that classic or cube controller.
Besides wonky new controle schemes, what else is new in the game are the shiny new Final Smash balls. In multiplayer, you'll see a Smash Bros. logo aimlessly float on screen, then BAM! Mindless brawling turns into a mad dash to see who can get what is potentially your character's own unique powerhouse attack. These balls allow it to be anyone's fight, but not enough to tip the tide toltally. And it adds a fresh mix into what is an already enjoyable beat-em-up title.
Single player has a campaign called the Subspace Emissary generally throws all character's into parties of 4, chasing franchise baddies and there random-as-hell minons. Mission's are genrally boring platform side scrollers, but the cutscenes range from epic to silly to well polished.
Online is the big dud. Nintendo only allows 2 min, no chatting matchs. Heck, you don't even know if your fighting COMs or people cause of no names and if a player drops out, they automatically get controlled by the Wii. Plus, it's only 1 person per console for online! What? Is this why it was delayed 3 months? For unwanted Friend Codes and non costumisable matchs? I hope not.
But Smash is known for it's unlockables, buddie-sitting-next-to-you matchs and supersaturation on everything Nintendo. Once agian, they pull it off with flying colors.
The simpler gameplay makes it more accessible for tournament play for average people like myself....

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008) - Nintendo
What a gloriously fun game this is! Forget all of the extra characters and modes and stages and all of that surfacing. More importantly, all of the ridiculously advanced techniques that were discovered in Melee have all been removed, making this a fighter that relies more on strategy and mind games than pure execution (which games like Melee and Marvel vs. Capcom 2) are. Obviously, execution is tremendously important in fighting games, but there are some games in which your execution of specific tactics is more important than actual gaming strategy. Although that might work for some, for a thinker like me, I don't like it. Thus, Smash Brawl I love because I feel that it is going back to a more traditional fighter (until extremely powerful advanced techniques are discovered in this game also). Oh, and there is also all of that extra stuffing that this game comes with. Buy it and love it!
Finally here...

Where to begin with this one. I've been waiting for this since I finished unlocking everything in Melee. Loads of new characters including Sonic the Hedgehog and Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. Other new characters include R.O.B. the Robot (yes, the same NES peripheral), Toon Link, Meta Knight, Pokemon Trainer, Lucas, Wario, and many others. New items, new stages, and new game modes are all in full supply. The story mode is incredibly well done and much longer than before, clocking in somewhere between 7 and 10 hours of play. There is very little to complain about with this game.
The flaws, and there are very few, include the WiFi support. Based on what I've gathered over the internet and from my friends, getting online to play with others requires both a very strong connection and a healthy supply of luck. And once you are online you have only 1 game type to play: 2 Minute Free-for-all. No stock, no team, NO OPTIONS AT ALL. Having the Friend Code for your friends Wii console isn't enough either, you'll need an entirely separate SSBB friend code that will be given to you the first time you sign into SSBB WiFi Mode. Nintendo would do well to learn from Microsoft's XBox Live service, it is better in EVERY way.
The only other complaint I have is really more of a personal thing. With Konami's Metal Gear Solid being thrown into the brawl, I was hoping for some Castlevania characters. Or that some other third party companies would throw their characters into the brawl. Capcom's Megaman or Dante would be excellent additions to the fight. But thats just my opinion. Here's to hoping they'll be in the next one!
In the end I give the game 5 stars because it really is great. Just because I can't play online doesn't mean I can't play with my friends just like I did on the Gamecube! The game is still the most fun I've had in a long time and has more than enough features to distract me for HUNDREDS of hours!

Big fan of the smash series. Having a blast playing Brawl. There is plenty to do on adventure mode earning all the characters and stuff before my brother gets back from college. The original controls are basically the same on the wii mote and nunchucks, allthough to throw items you must move your thumb up the wii-mote and hit side ->, which was kind of awkward at first, but one gets the hang of it I suppose. Still getting use too the move timings and different speeds.. the fighting is a bit slower so alot of the "advance techniques" I use to use are all but useless now.. final smashes are awesome though! the new characters are great, and the smashable courses are really fun. love the game overall, so 5 stars from me.
