Best Brawler, Ever.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl, is the highly anticipated sequel to the Gamecube's Hit, Super Smash Bros. Melee. I'll be honest. I checked the daily updates at smashbros.com, and read everything about this game. Even with that being said, this isn't just a great game; it's a great experience. My best friend lives across town, and she can't come over all the time to play. So, we use the WiFi. Sure, the friends code syste, is annoying, but it's very simple once you have established a WiFi connection, and have their code. Afterwards, there's nothing to it.
More elemental things:
Graphics: Beautiful, better than Twilight Princess, but worse than Super Mario Galaxy.
Soundtrack: Amazing. The number of tracks is staggering, and finding new songs (scattered throughout levels as CDs) is fun and involving.
Story Mode: Fun, and surprising. Much better than Melee's.
Notes: The amount of characters is incredible, and the amount of stages is equally incredible. Seeing certain characters in the story mode blew me away.
I really loved this game, and the more people you have increases it. I'd say that the single player is 5 star, and each additional person you have makes the game better than anything else, ever. You'll play this for years.

Great game of course, but using a Game Cube controller is a lot easier or even the class controller. I thought if this is your first time then you can get used to the wii and nunjucks, but you're just even more confused. Because this game is clearly not meant for the wii, but for normal console where you need a controller.

We just hooked up 4 game Cube controllers and sit really close to the TV......

Fun

The new characters, music, levels, etc. are all wonderful, and it's easy to spend hours upon hours brawling with friends or a computer opponent. My only small complaint is that, in many aspects, this game lacks a lot of the innovation I had expected from a sequel to SSB Melee. SSBB is sort of like new polish on an old game (which might be perfectly fine for many people). I wonder whether SSBB will have the same lasting appeal as SSBM, or whether people will tire of it faster.
Regardless, I'm having a lot of fun with this game at the moment. Even though it lacks some innovation, SSBB is still a superb game that's worth every penny I spent.

Truely the most inclusive Nintendo game ever released to date. It includes 313 songs, over 35 character including ones that can morph into other characters, more than 25 levels, the option for you to make custom levels, hundreds of collectible virtual stickers, hundreds more trophies and poses from various characters of Nintendo and 3rd party characters such as Sonic and Snake. WHY are you even reading a review, just buy the game already! It will keep you busy for well over 150 hours.

So much to do!

Yes, Nintendo delayed the release for this game (it's not the first time). But the wait is over, and believe me - the game lives up to the hype. Smash Bros. Brawl features a list of characters and stages much larger than any previous game in the Smash Bros. line. Of course, in addition to the characters available from the beginning, there are many unlockable characters as well.

But there's more than just characters and stages. If you're really into videogame soundtracks like me, then you'll have fun just listening to the music from Brawl. The game includes awesome arrangements of music from almost every conceivable Nintendo game from Animal Crossing to Zelda, including such franchises as Mario, Star Fox, Kid Icarus, and even Tetris. Brawl starts with much of this music from the beginning. But there are many more pieces that can be unlocked (probably numbering near a hundred.)

Brawl is mainly a fighting game designed for multiple players (human or computer). When I first heard of a new single-player mode of play I expected it to just be a little extra that they tacked onto the game - but I was wrong! The single-player adventure mode, known as the Subspace Emissary, could be a great game by itself. Especially if you like the old-fashioned side-scrolling games of NES and Super NES days.

The graphics of the game are better than most of the other current games for Wii. It actually amazes me, what with all the features, unlockables, and modes of play, that they were able to fit everything into one game disc.

Only one minor complaint: The Wii Remote is not very good for this game. The control styles that involve the remote or the remote & nunchuk are very hard to get used to. However, you can also play this game using the Classic controller add-on, and you can even use a GameCube controller if you prefer!

So if you're like me and have been into Smash Bros. since the original Nintendo64 release, you'll be excited with all the new additions and expansions to this third installment in the series. If you're new to Smash Bros. and are just now getting into it, this is the best place to start. It's definitely worth the wait.

Super Smash Bros is A HIT with my boys!!!

I am rating this game a winner because it hit big with both of my boys. I have an eleven year old and a five year old and they equally enjoy playing this game. My older son enjoys battling his friends in head to head competition (battles) as well as the CPU... While my younger son prefers to do battle with the CPU. They both love to play this game equally and opt to play it often (as I allow of course). This game offers a wide variety of characters to choose from and pair up with in various battle modes. Great game! --No disappointment here :)...

The most awesome fan service of a game ever.

This game is one of the best I've ever played. I'm willing to admit that part of the reasoning behind it is the nostalgia factor. However, even if you remove the nostalgia, its a pretty fun game with some of the best graphics the Wii has seen so far.

The graphics are fantastic, and are actually pretty realistic. This game brings up the same issue Super Mario Galaxy brought up, I don't think I want any game including Mario or Kirby to look much more realistic, or it just wouldn't feel right. There's some pretty good textures here, and a very solid frame rate. I have never noticed any slowdown, not even in the game's craziest moments. The graphics, while not the best you're going to see in gaming, are very solid, do their job, and are some of the best the Wii offers.

The soundtrack is far beyond what gamers are used to. It is massive. Not only is it massive, but is awesome too. Most of the songs are reworked classics, that any gamer loves to hear. As for the others, they're still nice to have for variety. A cool new feature is that you can select how often certain songs play on each arena. The soundtrack is amazing, and has a pretty good chance at winning that department here for Best of 2008.

Now for the game play. As much as they have added to the graphics and soundtrack, they have added even more to the game play. Not only do they have the awesome new arenas that change as you fight, but they also included some of your old favorites from Melee. There's also way more characters than before, and I am really glad they included Snake and Sonic, as they are both huge parts of my gaming history. They revamped the single player completely. Now, not only can you play through classic on various difficulties, but there's the new single player storyline, Subspace Emissary. There's no speaking in Subspace, which I consider a good thing, and its filled with funny moments, as well as cool epic ones. It lasts a good eight hours or so, and is surprisingly good for a party and/or fighting game. Subspace has helped to evolve Brawl past a party/fighting game, and really makes it a whole lot more fun to play single player than it was with Melee. When you're done with Subspace, there's still classic mode, tournament, home run, multi man brawl, boss battles, coin toss, and more. The multi player is as great as ever, and I think the super smash orb really adds tot he game play, because everyone in the room is yelling at each other in panic and fighting to get the final hit on it when it arrives. Plus all the super smash moves are pretty cool, well except for Luigi's, I'm not really sure what to think when he does that.

In short, this game will keep you entertained for hours and hours. Even if you get sick of it from playing it too much, I promise that you'll come back to it eventually. This game has some serious replay value. Forget about your harsh feelings towards the Wii, when you approach this game, just have fun with it.

The best party you threw all in one disc

Let's face it, Super Smash Bros Brawl was without a doubt one of the most heavily anticipated games of this year. With heavyweights like Metroid, Mario and Zelda, Nintendo's machine was sure generating some good momentum but those games were more for the hardcore single player whereas Brawl's strengths best come when you're amongst friends that can play. Maybe it was because of that that I was reluctant to purchase it since I always played the machine by myself with no one to really call or was not too busy. But first playing among family members, the appeal of the game/series became easy to see. The single player is fun but to best get the game's positives, bring some friends.

Story: No real story to speak of unless you take on the main single player mission which is quite long but the game's more a party game where you and up to 3 other players can battle each other or team up in certain special stages. As such, the game might not be as fun if it's just simply you although like the others in the series, the unlockables which contain trophies to new stages and characters, there's a lot to uncover within the game.

Graphics: Of course there's an upgrade from Melee with more sharper character models, flashy effects like lighting, explosions and such but when you stack it against gorgeous games like Mario Galaxy or Twilight Princess, it's not really the most prettiest Wii title but then when you're fighting enemies, you can kind of care less about whether something isn't as sharp as it should be.

Sound/Music: The music quite surprised as the game kicks off with a big cinematic intro complete with huge choirs and heavily orchestrated arrangements and throughout the game you can hear music that resembles the stage such as the Overworld Theme from Legend of Zelda to even those quirky songs with strange singing from Animal Crossing. Voice acting is just stuff like laughing, grunts and catch phrases from various fighters.

Gameplay: The game hasn't really changed from the previous incarnations as far as controls but you can decide how you want to play: the traditional Wiimote/Nunchuk combo, Wiimote sideways NES-style, the Classic Controller or a Gamecube one. The moves are still relatively similar with minor changes according to the controller. Once you get the hang of how to fight, it's just a case of choosing your fighters. And like a lot of sequels, it adds and adds though that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. With returning favorites like Link, Mario and the Ice Climbers, we also get newbies like Sonic, Snake and Zero Suit Samus. Some are incredibly fun to use (Meta Knight) while others don't really seem that exciting to use. Never did like the Fire Emblem guys in the last one and still don't.

Game modes are a-plenty from the Classic Adventure mode to the long Subspace Emissary where you can switch to different characters depending on the next "chapter" and friends can even join in on the fly so it's not just a single player or multiplayer experience right to the end. You get traditional fights to tournaments to specialty stages like survival mode and plenty more so you're bound to be busy for quite awhile. And let's not forget the most anticipated part: the online feature where you can head-to-head against people hooked up to the Net. I haven't had my Wii hooked up so I can't really give any details but it sure sounds like fun.

I'd very much recommend Brawl even if it's just you but to get the most out of it, it's best to play with someone. Who knows? Maybe your parents can turn out to be ***-kickers.

Fun for everyone

I pre-ordered this at my 9 year old son's request (and his cash). The only thing disappointing about this was waiting for it to arrive from Amazon. I thought the game would be shipped so on the 1st day available it would be at my house. We had to wait 4 days until it showed up.

Once we started playing however, all the waiting was worth it. We have 2 WII controller sets and some older Nintendo controllers. This game allows you to use both. So now we have been playing 4 people. Everyone loves it, although I get my butt kicked because I still don't understand everything your suppose to do, but the kids do.

I think this is a fun game for the family, but it is fighting so if maybe it is not perfect for younger children. The kids from 9-18 and a 40+ Dad think it is great.
