Crazy Taxi

This game is just plain poor. There are so many bad things about this game it is hard to know where to begin. The worst part about the game is the voices and the music. At first, they are cool, but as you play it more, the music just gets more and more annoying and as you get more and more frustrated trying to execute absolutely impossible 'crazy' manuevers that are absolutely necesssary to play the game well. Meanwhile, the voices, mind you in some annoying 'SoCal' accent, repeatedly tell you you 'suck' while you inevitably fail to execute the precision button pushing needed to accomplish any of the game's objectives. The language the game uses towards you is downright offensive. In the arcade, where the game is from, I can see it working to badger someone to toss a few more quarters in to get back at the game but without the constraints of quarters, I found myself having the desperate urge to smash the game disc.

In other words, there are a billion better things to do with your $50 than to buy this game. For instance, checking out Amazon's tool section, buying a cheap drill, and making that proverbial hole in your head.

Crazy Taxi...ummmm...Save your money

Game was great for an hour. With the top limit of a 10 minute game no matter how well your doing. Lets face it racing around crashing into anything and everything gets a bit boring fast...I think Crazy Taxi needs to be put in the garage and taken out when you need to entertain a group of 11 year olds. What is really bad is the graphics are wonderful but the objective of the game is simplistic and overall unsatisfying. Dream Cast has a great potentential, do yourself a favor and pass on this one, unless your under 13.

Boring in 10 minutes

This games graphics are possibly the best I have ever seen. Unfortunately good graphics dont make a good game. This one dimensional game loses interest after ten minutes. There is no real goal except for the mini games. If you like depth in a game, dont get this.

No way

This game starts of exciting and ends really boring. There is no goal and all you do is keep driving around and around to the same places. Simple solution - keep your money and buy Midtown Madness 2 when released. It will be much better.

The most one dimensional game ever

No game has ever been able to create boredom so quickly as this one-dimensional piece of garbage.

for a contrast, check out how this entire game is encompased (and better done) in a very small side-mission in GTA3

This is a terrible game. It's a good idea with a poor execution. The game might sound fun, but it isn't. The steering is too fast, the controls are awful, and there isn't enough variety.

The steering is too fast. Whenever you turn, you turn too far, and so you futilely try to correct. Basically, you NEVER follow the path you want, and you swerve NONSTOP as you keep overcorrecting. Trust me, all I play is driving games, and I am not some sort of novice. A racing wheel might help.

As in all Sega Dreamcast driving games, the accelerator is the right-side trigger, and the brake is the left-side trigger. The controls cannot be reconfigured as they can be with PlayStations and Nintendos. The steering stick on the controller has too much resistance and isn't grippy enough. You can't really keep the stick partially turned without turning it all the way or not at all. I never got used to the controls after weeks of play.

There are only two different cities in which you can play, and there are only three drivers. How about at least four cities and five drivers?

The graphics are great.

NOT WORTH IT

I bought Crazy Taxi two days ago and already returned it. I thought it would be fun to play the role as a taxi driver in a big city. Instead I found a very frustrating game with absolutely no single player game. Instead you can play for about 60secs, 3min, 5min, or 10min. In the 60 second game you try your best to end up ranking 52nd and getting a class D liscense. Oh did I mention you also get laughed at by ranking last against no one! I got tired of Crazy Taxi after i played it for about 20 minutes. I returned that day and got NHL2k. If you are not interested in the racing and just want to have fun driving around this game is still not for you. It was repetitive and too difficult.

Am I the only one that finds this game boring?

While I agree with the other reviews that Crazy Taxi has excellent visual appeal, I find the game gets old very quickly. How many times can you drive variations on the same person to KFC? I think the game could have used some additional features. First, your taxi should be able to sustain damage. There is no penalty for driving head-on into a semi other than a slight delay. Second, the taxi should have an ejection seat to get rid of unwanted fares. Many of the fares are picked up on accident when arriving at a destination. Finally, there should be cities other than the San Francisco knockoff. The repetition in this game was very disappointing. While I don't think Crazy Taxi is a terrible game, I would simply suggest you play the game before you buy it. I bought this game without playing it first and was very disappointed; I hope this review prevents the same from happening to you.

Pick people up and drive them through an impressively rendered city to a limited number of destinations. Along the way you can chase people off the sidewalk, bang into cars, dodge traffic and even drive across the bottom of the ocean, but so what? You can't shift except to put it in forward and reverse. The car acts as though the wheels were under the center. There's no power sliding around corners. People always get out of the way on time. Some of the roll overs look realistic, but there's no real damage. You almost never get up to speed as there are so many obstacles and sharp turns. The cars all handle about the same.

This is the kind of feel good game. It all takes place on a bright summer day. The convertible taxi's go bombing around with their tops down, but I get a little stressed with all the rush rush and the traffic. I just don't feel like this is that much fun. It's stressful and tedious. People say this is a racing game, but it really isn't. It's a driving game, sort of a fake driving game and I think it's best suited for an arcade where the glitzy graphics can pull people in for a couple of rides and then let them get on with their lives. Playing it for more than a few minutes just shows you how little it has to offer. I don't think they even have different views and I'm sick of this town, San Francisco.

If you want a decent racing game, get Need for Speed for PSX or even Ridge Racer. At least RR had powerslides.

Oh yeah. The music sucks and the chatter gets old even faster than the game.
