I hate this game. I played it at my friends house. It was one piece of crap. It was realy cheasey. They changed Squall's name to Leon because of meeting the King Mickey. That is just plain old sad.

I tried so hard to get into this game. I love RPGs and especially the Final Fantasy series, along with dungeon crawlers (such as Dark Cloud and Zelda). This game bored me so incredibly with its easy button pressing and redundant music whenever I was walking or fighting (the cutscene music is excellent). The gameplay is seriously lacking in the FF strategy and Zelda variety, being a simplified version of a dungeon crawler. This is not for RPG veterans. It will offer them no challenge and just put them to sleep. I recommend this to the younger gamers who have not played any (or many) RPGs. If you are not a part of this crowd, steer clear.

I had a bad feeling something like this would happen. After playing through Final Fantasy X, I realized that the characters were annoying and childish. Now, with the release of Kingdom Hearts, we see where Squaresoft is heading. They are targeting a much younger audience now (5-13 years old), and as such, Square has turned away from making good role-playing games that require thought and skill to master. Kingdom Hearts is an OK Disney animated movie, with some RPG-style battles using magic (almost exactly like that annoying Pokemon/DragonBall Z/ etc..) I rented it, and was quite annoyed with the fact that Disney characters keep appearing. From the reviews I have read, it seems that everyone loves this game. I think many of these reviewers have never played a true RPG, like the ones that were very popular from 1988-1994. I suggest people avoid this game, simply because it is just another Disney product, very watered down and predictable.

Unusually violent for a "E" rated game (who comes up with these ratings???). The main character Sora frequently must repeatedly pummel the evil Heartless characters with a key or sheild to advance through various stages. He is joined later in the game, and much to my dismay, by popular Disney characters, like Goofy and Donald Duck, participating in the beatings. I never thought I'd live to see the day when Goofy would be trying to beat the poop out of something. The violence comes to a climax at one point where Sora commits ritualistic suicide by ramming a key into his heart to save his little girlfriend.
I think the next time Disney partners with someone to make a video game, they should at least attempt to keep it on this side of carnage. A major disappointment!!!

I just couldn't get into this game. I found the controls touchy and the menus confusing. The story was odd and I couldn't seem to get into the characters. I know it is Disney with a twist and that many seem to love it and I tried but it was not compelling to me.
Square, Why?

I love Squaresoft. They make some of the best RPG's, and RPG's are the greatest games. Square has made such greats as the Final Fantasy games, Chrono Cross, and Vagrant Story just to name a few. But it seems that Square is going to sell its soul for a quick buck.
Kingdom Hearts is a poor excuse of a game. Why would anyone put Disney characters in a game that is not made by Disney? Just to make a lot of money. People who buy this game are giving into greedy companies.
Disney ruins Kingdom Hearts, it could have been so good. People say that adding Disney characters makes it better. How? If adding Disney characters to a non-Disney game is good, why not add other little kids characters? Barney, Big Bird, Spongebob? Do you want them to pollute your next Square "masterpiece"? Many people say this is a Final Fantasy game, but in fact it is a Disney game with Final Fantasy characters as "side-kicks".
Why, Square? Why have you chosen to do this. Oh wait, I know! To overflow you wallets with cash! Disney has ruined this game as it has ruined everyday lives. Disney is just stupid. Can you imagine fighting alongside Goofy? Let's hope this is not a start of a trend. But I know it is. So many people will give into this .... What has this world come to?
Fine for Kids, Mediocre for serious gamers

When I first saw a commercial for Kingdom Hearts, I was sold. I love Disney characters, even though they've had a lot of stinkers recently (hunchback anyone?). Regardless, I thought the skills of outstanding game design from Square and the storytelling of Disney would combine to be a great game. While the game certainly contains some impressive elements, particularly graphical, the game falls short of expectations. First is the battle construct. It's great for kids who love mashing buttons, but for those who prefer a more delicate touch, it's dissapointing. I would have prefered a turn based combat system, something Square does quite well. I probably would have been more accepting of the current system if the character could see what he is hitting. Alas, the game camera wigs out way too often when he is near walls, which it very often, considering that the size of each room in very small. Putting it on manual helps, but it only solves half of the problems. The Gummi ship is another problem I have. Granted, I was on Normal (which must be Easy because there are only 2 difficulty settings), but it honestly is the most boring part of the game. If you hold down the fire button and move once or twice, you get through levels no problem. A very weak "game in game" concept. The storyline is fine, and it's really fun to see which disney character you'll meet next, but it's fairly dissapointing to do nothing but replay each disney movie, even with the overarching storyline. Now for the good news. Maleficient is outstanding as the main baddie, and the conflict between Riku and Sora was a touch of Square genius. The graphics are amazing, with each world vividly colorful and explorable. In particular, Boss battles and summon spells really steal the show. Still though, it's hard to accept Goofy and Donald as your party members. I would have prefered to be Square characters saving Disney characters, instead of the mix. They did do a good job of maintaining the voices of the characters from the movies (I think). Robin Williams (Genie) was not available, but they did get his TV show voice, Dan Castanella, as well as Danny Devito as Phil for Hercules, and other voices that sound dead on stand ins if they aren't the originals. Haley Joel Osment as Sora is fine, but I still have a hard time with Sora looking so asexual, and Osment's voice sounds high enough to cause uncertainty. Menu control is also elementary, as to not confuse the younger players, but could be made a bit more intricate. The health meter is also a bit confusing, as you do not know just how many more hits you can take before healing, but that's a minor problem. To sum up, Kingdom Hearts is great if you're 10 years old and love Disney movies. If you're 20, you're going to have issues. You can't beat it in a week, so don't bother renting. Buy this game used if you want to at all.

Kingdom Hearts is incredible! The fighting style is great, the graphics are pretty good, the characters are amazing, and so on. Now, I know that this game is a product of Disney, and that you expect it to be very kiddy, but don't shy away, it's for all ages. As most know, it was also produced by Squaresoft, the makers of the Final Fantasy series. Really, to reject this game would be to miss out on a great time. BUY KINGDOM HEARTS!
