The gameplay and graphics are interesting, Squaresoft has set the standard when it comes to background and character designs. Of course, all of that means nothing since you are fighting along side Disney characters. I wanted to like this game, I really did, but I just felt stupid when Donald Duck and Goofy comes to your aide. If Squaresoft wanted to make a cross over game, why not use the Star Wars Universe? Or Lord of The Rings? Or even the Marvel comics and DC universe. Playing Kingdom Hearts just felt plain wrong, and the game is a rental at best.
Really 2.5 stars...

The gameplay is enjoyable to a point, but... if you heard that nagging little voice in the back of your head saying to you, "Square... and DISNEY?", heed it. It is an unholy pairing which, in the end, drains from the game its possible greatness and drags it down to the level of insipid commercial stupidity. You are fighting side by side with the noble knight... GOOFY! And DONALD DUCK! These are such well-known commercial icons that any sense of otherworldliness or removal from the here and now is completely shattered. They may as well have made the shops into 7-11s and had the cast eat Reeces Pieces to restore health. *Blech!* The Disney world is not about imagination, it is an entity in and of itself. Heck, you can actually GO there! It's in Florida! I really can't comprehend how this did not contaminate the game completely for any of the (professional) reviewers I have read. And this is without even getting into the uninspired music and the totally USELESS and INFANTILE Gummi ship sequences. Or the pain inflicted by the SAPPY Winnie the Pooh level. Kingdom Hearts takes out the cerebral aspect of a good RPG and replaces it with button mashing. This product cannot even hold the SHADOW of a candle to Final Fantasy X but, due to its unfortunate success, Square is sure to make another. THAT one I will at least know better than to purchase. So much for trusting the critics. Definitely not recommended if you are over 12 years of age. Quite a disappointment.

Kingdom Hearts truthfully, as everyone says, looks like pathetic Disney wannabe game with cruddy graphics and all that fun stuff. But it wasn't. First, I am huge on the Japanese culture, the awesome names, odd clothing, the language, the music...everything. So when i head Hikaru Utada's songs for KH l & ll.. I just died. I found it amazing Simple and Clean was lively, and fun. And with the PlanitB Remix, in Japanese, it only made it better. Then with Passion and Sanctuary, in Japanese. It all sounds great! I love the graphics, and sounds effects. The voice actors did an awesome job. And overall the storyline was amazing.
Also, I really, really despise Final Fantasy. All of them. Its confusing and crazy and slow. This is fast beat and you have more control. KH and KH II are so much better than FF. sorry to all who love it but, thats my opinion.
Many people say that they have funny clothes, but everyone in fantasy games has funny clothes. Plus, I Kairi's beach look, is tre-cute. Riku has a odd mix of yellow and navy, not to bad with the criss-cross belts.. And Sora has probably one of the most complex outfits of them all. With the chains and crowns and zippers and hearts.
I have heard people say that the whole storyline is confusing on Destiny Islands, and its really not. Some people wonder where all the adults are. And if you listen to the cutscene before going to find Riku, you hear Sora's mother call him to dinner, but he is gone. And the other things is the the island they are on is the Main Island, there are other small ones in the ocean, but people don't notice this.
The names are also was awesome, Kingdom Hearts, Keyblade, Heartless... It all ties together and the plot is nicely rounded.
I recommend this to everybody.
Not understandable.

The gameplay is ok, but the point of the game is really pathetic. They never explain HOW the things happen in this game.
This kid lives on an island with a few friends. Any parents? Who knows. Suddenly at night the islnd gets invaded by these weird black things and the kid is the only one woke up to all that racket! Then a huge key appears in his hand. What?! And he actually fights with a key?! Then the whole island gets sucked up into this ball that seems to be absorbing everything. And the kid actually survives and ends up in this town? And all he thinks about is two of about 10 friends living on that long gone island. They never explain what happened to the other people! Later on, one of the two "friends" that he thinks about turns against him! And Donald and Goofy joins him. Donald and Goofy. How harmful can they be?! They actualy fight?! Some of the bosses in this game are super hard-and what's even worse Riku the guy who turned against him even help the super hard bosses beat you! I really hate Riku!!
This game is really stupid an i suggest if you really want a fun RPG game try Final Fantasy X or maybe Harvest Moon. Square, what were you thinking when you made this game?

Give me a break. I admit that PS2 has some solid hits, but this is by far not one of them. Since when do Final Fantasy and disney go together? This game is pretty dumb, not worth the money. There are some solid RPG's. But this is kids play. I beat this game in one day and returned it. It is by far the worst game. But I'll tell you some great games.
1. Ratchet and clank, the best game you can imagine.
2. Oni is pretty good too, if you're into shooterts and fighting combat.
3. Simpsons road rage. Totally worth it. Hilarious and good.
4. Rayman arena. An awesome character in an awesome party game.
5. The Sims should be solid.
But that's not all. And first, Ratchet and Clank, buy RIGHT AWAY. It's not A game. It's THE game.
BAD GAME KIDS!

This game is horrible, Sora is prehaps the cheekyest character in vidio game history, and Goofy and donald are very, very annoying. Also the cutscenes are way too long and are unskippable, and the story sounds like it was made up by a two year old. Now, to the game play; the "heartless" (the enemies in the game) are fun to fight in the begining of the game, but the battles get boring and repetative later on, and the later bosses may be too hard for your a younger gamer. goofy & donald's AI is incredibly stupid and are better used as sheilds rather than fighting partners. Also magic is too easily used up. Overall I only gave this game one star if it hadent been for the Final Fantasy cameos.
crappy game!

The premise, while novel, isn't as well developed as it could be. Past the initial leap, Sora doesn't seem too intrigued or elated to be world-hopping though it has been his fondest wish for as long as he can remember (besides getting closer to Kairi)and what's stranger is that he nor the inhabitants of the Disney themed parrallel dimensions don't freak out when they meet Donald Duck or Goofy the dog as both the title character and the humans did in Howard the Duck the movie even though they've never seen talking animals before(with the exception of Alice and Belle).Even Kairi's absence shouldn't detract from the effect by that much. The Final Fantasy character relations are completely inaccurate or outright wrong, leading me to believe that they were dropped into the roles which any character at all could have filled by staffers who had only read of Cloud or Squall or perhaps seen someone playing games featuring them, even Ergheiz. Even in the colliseum, Cloud and Sephiroth use moves never even hinted at in FF7 while ignoring the enmity between them. I wouldn't have been surprised if Cloud asked, "What's a Sephiroth? The lead guitarist in a hair/glam rock band?" Why exactly does Cloud have a single wing like Sephiroth? The whole "Sephiroth Clone" thing was a ruse by Seph to get the weak-minded Cloud to do his bidding as per standard BadGuy protocol.Read the runes, foolish mortal! Anyway, that isn't important nor is the fairly routine battle against the 'Darkness' without the whole "not all Darkness is bad, not all Light is good" philosophy of Grandia 2. What else should one expect from Disney (or even SquareSoft minus the XenoSaga team)? The gameplay experience is all important here and much like other recent SquareSoft/Square-Enix releases it really delivers the goods. If there is an ability that a Disney character had that you ever wanted to use, it might be here and if not, wait for the sequel. The same goes for meeting your favorite Disney stars and fighting alongside them. I'd have prefered the Disney TV characters from DuckTales, DarkWing Duck, TailSpin and best of all, Gargoyles, but the second part probably deals extensively with exploring the TV characters and Square-Enix worlds. If not, that's unfortunate. The gameplay itself is somewhere between Phantasy Star Online and Super Mario 64/SunShine, party-based combat and menu use on the fly but lots of platforming and special abilities that aid in traversing the terrain but with Disney-esque twists. Why settle for a wingcap with temporary flight when you can fly free while fighting side-by-side with Peter Pan against Captain Hook and the Heartless (No pirates.Drag.)or on a magic carpet with Aladdin or vine swinging and tree-surfing with Tarzan. The team ups are worth the price of admission alone...which now is signifigantly less than I got it for. That having been said, the repetitive hack-slash-spell casting game play gets tiresome after a while without the banter between live human teammates that online RPGs provide(well, the internet connection, servers and other players provide it)but that's why there's a save system. Play some now, save the rest for later. The graphics aren't up to snuff with Final Fantasy:Crystal Cronicles but in their own way equal to its system mates, favoring large colorful exaggeratedly expressive character features and nicely modeled interactive environments with certain objects being excessively flat and unconvincing(just check out the WonderLand stage's bowls though that may be an intentional distortion to match the theme. Some resident possibly just painted it on the wall.)rather than going for life-like visuals. The spell effects are no better or worse than the usual multiplayer RPG but topped by FF:CC on the GC, but that's not a fair comparison anyway.I might as well compare SteamBoat Willie to The Lion King or 101 Dalmations to Finding Nemo.It only costs as much as a Disney DVD and it beats the red shorts with white buttons off of most of them so get it. It's magical.
