Lots of flaws, but worthwhile

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 2

I'm the type of gamer who likes to explore and find little nooks and crannies that the developers tucked away. I also like to find multiple ways to solve puzzles.
Now, unfortunately, Kingdom Hearts has neither of these things. That doesn't mean it isn't worth playing, though!

Cons first:
- No real exploring (no cool hidden places that enhance the story but don't necessarily need to be visited)
- Only one way to solve various puzzles (even if you have the ability to jump really high, you may still have to do such-and-such to make the object fall down to you)
- Some levels VERY repetitive (Tarzan level is ridiculous - there's basically two areas and you go back and forth via an annoying vine system)
- Story is NOT interactive (meaning, it stays the same no matter what you do)
- Some levels have areas with nothing in them (or nothing until you've "triggered" the action in a different area) - what's the point?

That's a lot! Amazingly, however, I still enjoyed it. :)

Pros:
- Fun to play with Disney characters - they used the Disney voices!
- Interesting and believable main character (Sora) - you do come to care about his story
- Very beautiful
- Fighting and magic system is easy to use

Now if it seems like my pros outweigh the cons, you'd be right. But you know what? It was still FUN. I continued to play, even while grumbling a bit, because I did want to see the worlds and what would happen next. I wouldn't have paid full price for it, but now that it's a Greatest Hits, it's well worth the money - I've got over 40 hours in! So yes, do get it, but don't expect it to be the Be All, End All of games.

The best of Disney and Final Fantasy

I'll admit that when I first heard about Kingdom Hearts, I thought it was going to be a [weak] Disney game. Filled with kids, lollypops, and corny jokes. But after playing it, I would have to say it's one of my favorite games I ever played. It takes the dynamic story telling, and characters of a final fantasy game, with the beautiful animation of a Disney movie. The people at Square really did their homework on the differnet Disney worlds and Characters. As soon as you see the Genie in action you'll know what I mean. The new battle system is a bonus too. It really keeps you on your feet. Plus they got a lot of the original voice cast for the Disney characters. If you're a final fantasy, Disney, or just a fan of great games, play Kingdom Hearts. Oh, and if you're still not convinced, then wait untill you see the Nightmare Before Christmas world. It is amazing how they captured the pure essense of the actual movie. Enjoy!

More ups then downs

Its a weird concept. Disney meets Square! But, in execution, from the lush graphics, to the top notch story, to the well done voice acting, it turns into one of the best games ever for the ps2. Like top 10 best. Sora, Riku and Kiri, all live on this island, one of many worlds throughout the galaxy. The three have dreams of one day leaving the island, to meet new people, and to see new worlds. They hope they will always be friends, and be together. Sorta like they're family. Sora and Riku have a "Special relationship", which i suppose is a way of saying they are in love with each other, but don't really know it. How do you say? Well, though they never say they "love" each other, in the game, there is this fruit, that, when shared with another, bounds the two forever; Sora wants to share this fruit with Kiri, and although i don't remember, i think in the ending they do. Speaking of the ending...the ending is one of the most moving endings to any game ever, and its mostly because of Simple and Clean, written and Sung beautifully by Utada Hikaru. When Kiri sees the drawing that she and Sora made of them sharing the fruit, and she bursts into tears, i did to. Youtube it, you won't regret it. Gameplay is a tad bit annoying, thanks to the camera. Voice acting is well done, thanks to a few Hollywood stars, and both disney and Square characters, from Donald to Aries, are recreated beautifully.

Overall, while fun isn't 5 star, the overall game is. You will not regret picking up this game!

One of the Best Games Ever

I unlike a lot of other people did not buy this game when it first came out. My initial thought was what was Squar thinking. I was thinking this could be nothing more than a childs game. It wasnt until I talked to a number of other people, right before KH2 came out did i finaly listen to all those people and spend the $20 to get the game, (as was the price of the game by then,) and low and behold, by the time I finished watching just the opening scene I was hooked. I played that game for what seemed like hours on in, (it was really only a very long weekend.) But that game became so addicting I immediatly went out and bought the second one the day it came out. The story line was on par with that of Final Fantasy X, and Final Fantasy VII, my two favorit games in the world. I would recomend this game to anyone with even the slightes bit of imagination. If you can even dare to dream you will instantly love this game as I did. It was well worth the price, and my only regret is that i did not buy it sooner.

This game is alot of fun. I enjoyed it except one thing in the game that I despised. There is a winnie the pooh mini game that has to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen or played. While it is very funny I could have done without it.

I will tell you the main reason to buy this game. . .

You get to fight Sephroth from Final Fantasy VII in the cup tournament and I have to say that in that fight I have never cursed so much in my entire life. If anything buy the game for that.

Wonderful Game!

After I got my PS2 for Christmas, and a few other games for it, my sister said, "Let's get Kingdom Hearts!" Now, me, not knowing what it is, asks her. "It's like Final Fantasy and Disney," Is her reply.
Disney, in a video game?? I laughed. "Sounds like a kiddy-game."
Boy, was I wrong.
Kingdom Hearts follows the story of Sora, a boy who lives happily on Destiny Islands with his friends Riku and Kairi. When he is chosen as the Keyblade weilder and his home is swallowed by darkness, he is flung into Disney's Donald and Goofy, who are trying to find him when their king disappears. Sora, Goofy and Donald then travel to many different Disney worlds, such as Agrabah, Atlantica, and the Deep Jungle, to find the "heart" of each world.
Now, the villains of this story are the heartless. Being controlled by the evil Maleficent, they seek a heart. They pretty much swarm around you, as Sora, and attempt to, well... kill you.
The gameplay of this game is pretty simple. You learn abilities, equip them, use them. You fight with the keyblade, and some magic spells you can put into a "shortcut." You can also, in different worlds, have other Disney characters join your party and fight alongside you, such as Ariel, and Jack Skellington.
The graphics are STUNNING, with 3-D landscapes and characters, and smoothly-moving cutscenes. The music is amazing. It describes the world or the emotions being described at that moment perfectly.
There are many hidden things, and I find that searching every nook and cranny of the room can be quite useful.
Really, the only thing that disappointed me was the camera angles. They were pretty terrible.
Overall, though, this is one of the best games I've ever played.

Kingdom Hearts Is challenging & fun!

As adventures go, this one is both interesting and fun! The strategies aren't so difficult that the average gamer cannot figure them out!
What I liked about it was It uses both Disney characters and Final Fantasy characters. it had me stuck in a couple of places, but even I managed to figure out how to go on!
You should love it. It is also something that children should like. Some moderate violence (no blood or gore).
THIS GAME IS AIMED AT YOUNGER AUDIENCES....But adults should like it too!

Square Enix and Disney make a great team!

This game is one of my all time favorites. The story is awesome, the graphics are gorgeous, and the game never gets dull. Although it may seem like a "kids" game it is actually quite challenging even for me- a 16 year old, so dont worry about it being too easy. Disney includes worlds based off some of their movies such as The Nightmare before Christmas, Aladdin, and Tarzan. All in all i would give this game an A.

Correction to "great game but......." by TJ "Hard Rocker Tom"

I don't think that TJ "Hard Rocker Tom" ever played the game, so i would ignore any of his reviews. "Rikku" is the Al Bhed girl from FFX who DOES NOT feature in Kingdom Hearts. "Riku", on the other hand, is a friend of Sora's, and is a BOY!!! Kingdom hearts is an incredible game, The live action fighting is SO much better than the boring turn based stuff in FFX. Although the cutscenes aren't quite as pretty as some of the stuff in FFX (with the exception of the intro), I still loved the story. It's really cute and i loved the fact that everything is kept so clean. I would highly recommend watching the secret ending - the preview to KH2. Release all 101 dalmatians and there you have it - KH "Deep Dive". Very cool.

More classic Square RPG, with Disney?

I know what I thought when Square first announced Kingdom Hearts, why on earth are you colaborating with Disney, it's going to be awful. Reviews leading up to the game were positive though, and as a massive Squaresoft fan, I ended up buying the game on release date, it turned out to be a great decision.

It struck me straight away that this was definetely a Square game, rather than a disney game, in fact this is probably the only good computer game to ever carry the Disney name. You play as Sora, who is taken away from his own world, and joins forces with Donald & Goofy (just bear with it) to defeat the heartless overunning the world. If you are familiar with any Disney films you will recognise most of the areas and characters instantly. Personally I dont really care for the Disney aspects, but aside from that the game plays like a dream anyway. There is plenty to see and do outside of the main plot as well, a favourite being the colosseum, where amongst other secret bosses, Sephiroth makes an apperance. I won't spoil plot details, but trust me this game is great, another Square classic, and I am still awaitng the sequel which is long overdue.

Ignore any ideas you may have about the Disney license, if your into good RPG's just buy it, and see for yourself how great this is, classic.
