Kingdom Hearts has been out for a couple of weeks. I haven't been able to find it ANYWHERE. A N Y W H E R E!!!
I'm obsessed with the music. I love the cutscenes I've seen so far. The gameplay looks awesome. Everyone I know who has played it has loved it, and 99/100 of the internet community loves it too (Cept the whiny morons who can't get over the camera-thing).
If you haven't bought this game because you have something against Disney, or against Square, GET OVER IT AND BUY IT! All these billions of people can't be wrong!
(The 1-star rating is for the fact that I only get to see it through other people. I never get to play it myself cause none of the rental places ever have it in, and I haven't enough money to purchase it... not that they're findable for purchase either...)
Visually stunning with poor gameplay.

I love RPG's and I love Disney. What could be better. Well, i bought this when it 1st came out and played it for several days when I got to a point in the game where I was supposed to do ______ ?
I have no idea and that's the problem. I had been to every available world back and forth and looked in every room, cave, nook whatever. I couldn't find anything else to do. so, i would quit and come back later with a fresh view. nothing. I couldn't find anything else to do and the story wouldn't progress. There was no help at all from the game and eventually i got bored with it and used the gameshark to pass it and move on. But, i had no interest in the game after that and never finished it. Shame.
Oh boy...you should rent it first.

I bought Kingdom Hearts thinking it was going to be a traditional RPG game. This is not so. It reminds me a lot of the Bouncer as the fighting systems are both like a street fighter game... I personally think the game is O.K. The fighting system gets tiring real quick, and the worlds get boring quick since you keep going from one place you've seen to another one you've seen so often.
On the good side, I found the voices to fit the FF characters pretty well, and the graphics were kool. I just don't know why they couldn't have all been the ages they were in their respective games. Also, I wish they would let you have some FF people on your team to fight with. Oh well. Oh yeah, the music is nice at first, but after a while it gets old, but then again, that's nothing new really.
So, if you like street fighter games, disney characters, and don't mind the FF characters being sidekicks you can't play with, then you will probably like this game a lot...
it's just barely ok...

...pretty package, lousy content. there is the usual square trademark melodrama, camera that acts like a kid hyped up on sugar, 70% of dialogue is text only, elevator music, [poor story line] and excitement of visiting same town over and over again. now the realtime battle system sure sounds good until you play 'em. no strategy of anysort is required since you cant see whats going on screen (camera goes round and round...). all you will be doing is pound the attack button until the slow mo-stop blurred snap shot of your last blow...
Kingdom Hearts tour???!!!what a weird review...!!!!

This ridiculous pastiche of two marketing juggernauts -- Disney and Final Fantasy -- is a perfect example of how Hollywood will ruin the video game industry. Is this what passes for creativity now? There was barely any attempt to combine the two in any sensible way. The dialog between self-important FF folk and the most idiotic of the Disney crew (i.e. Goofy) is like being on drugs -- really bad drugs. The battles are tedious. The gummi ship sequences are dull as dishwater. The camera angles are literally nauseating. Watching the auxilliary characters in your party jump around like drunken spiders would be unintentionally amusing, if they didn't get in your way when you are trying to kill the incessant stream of boring baddies. But the worst part is the music. It is so insipid (particularly the Traverse Town theme) it is enough to make you turn the game off -- or at least the sound. I played about half this game and got too bored to finish it.
A woman's Point of view....

In my time as a video gamer I have played a number of rpg and final fantasy games. I would consider myself an experienced player. I bought this game as my first playstation 2 game (I had already played and owned many playstation one games - many of which were final fantasy, rpg, and action/adventure games) - I almost imediately fell in love with it. The graphics and interactive-ability were abselutely astounding. It was a completely new style of gaming too. Never before had I seen such a combination of hands on fighting and rpg. I was awestruck and delighted. The plot was catchy and not overplayed, and most of the characters were like-able. Yet as the game progressed and especaily towards the end I became deeply offened by the role of the female characters in the game. There is not one single strong female character in this entire game. The princess that you are required to save do no fighting whatsoever and usualy faint or are capruted five seconds after you meet them. The villaness - malificent is pretty cool until she falls vicitm to her superior male villan's power. -_-. All in all I was completely outraged and disapointed by the end of this game. The characters became un-believable and at many points un-likable. For all it's good sides this game has some serrious issues...I myself could never respect any game that protrayed women so poorly.

First of all u can not use a key as a weapon(even a HUGE key).
The game makes every person from final fantasy 7,9, and 10 look like a little pu**y. Cloud can kick Sora's a** any day so can Squall and them other people. The bosses in this game make a puppy look scarey. The game makes Sephiroth (One of the coolest, strongest, evilest villian from fianl fantasy) look like a turtle on his back. The summons aren't powerful, bambi, simba, tinkerbell, and some other pu**ies are a bad excuse for summons any day. (Where did Bahumet and Eden go?) The story line looks like something that came out of the blender. Mickey can't control a universe and white people can't dance i want justice ! (lol)
overrated and disappointing

alright let me get to the point right now. i did not like this game. i did not like the characters i was forced to play. the story was not at all grabbing. none of the worlds i enjoyed except for 2. the way you traveled between worlds was ridicilous. i hated the camera, it was never where it should've been , and the combat was very boring and repetitive button mashing. this is once again another sign of how sq's games have lost that magical feel. this game is just not fun. this is another case of sq slop that i wasted 50 bucks on once again, and personally i'm growing sick of it. the only ppl i can reccommend this game to are ppl who've never played an action rpg in their lives. any real hardcore rpg gamer who's been around the console block can see that this game is by far one of the worst rpg's since ff X. but now that i got that out of the way here's what i did like about this game.
1. ff cameos were very cool but they never fight with you only disney ones which is def a shame.
2. the disney worlds were brought to life pretty well, some better than others. tarzan world though is by far the worst out of em all. but the nmbxmas world wow you're in for a real treat:).
3. disney characters and voiceovers are excellent, make no mistake disney brought in the allstar cast of voices from all the disney films, very well done. the ff voices though are extremely weak, hardly any that really bring out the characters, you can see that the disney thing was very thought out and the ff cameos were slopped together.
4. fast combat action, the battle system is very quick and easily done and you can see this was def made for children the way combat is done. the camera is very bad though cause you can never see what is going on, the lockon is worthless cause enemies can still hit you while you lockon onto another one. magic is just another added goodie as well as summoning nothing really important and hardly valuable you can beat it all just by mashing your weapon the whole game.your comrades are a mixed bag, donald dies constantly, goofy is more a healer than a fighter cause his shield repels alot of damage. the side disney characters you can get are cool and are much more fun to use than donald or goofy. the only problem is that when you're not playing donald or goofy they aren't gaining levels and your side disney character is only temporary. it's a double edged sword, cause you want to have good fighters and yet your normal fighters don't grow. very bad move on sq's part.
5. the story is nothing you haven't heard before, but the children will like it for all the dif disney villains and heroes. i don't care what these so called ppl say this is def by far a kid's game(even on the expert level). the music is average only a few memborable tunes other than remixed disney tracks, be warned though some of it will get on your nerves very quick after hours of play.
(*especially the hundred acre wood*)
6. the secrets and side quests are abound in this game same as other sq rpg's. they range from ridicilous to can't wait to figure out this puzzle, and get the secret summons and fight secret characters. all and all def alot of replay if you enjoy the game. i did not.
so in closing, this is a game that i was never engrossed into, and mind you like i said the disney thing did not bother me. it was how the worlds were executed, the story, the camera, the combat, the music, the SQ characters, it was just all very poor. the kid's will love it, get them this and if they have a gamecube, star fox adv, (a game also that had it's flaws but i liked a bit more than kh).
i can tell by the reviews that some of these ppl never even really played this game, so they don't really have an opinion other than it's on ps2 it's cool. and squaresoft made it it rocks. don't believe it so easily this game can be fun but only the kids or ppl who never really played an action rpg are going to like this. casual gamers will def get into it at first but by tarzan world and all the searching in wonderland it'll be back on the shelf and off to funcoland in a week to a month. which is to be expected this is def marketed to that entry level RPG range, and that's not a bad thing but i expected more from SQ. Disney on the other hand did a bang up job with their side of things , it was SQ who def dropped the ball on this 1. i've heard a sequel is in the works i only hope they remedy the problems this one has, if so i'll pick it up. just to see the nbxmas world again, that really made me bump up this game from 2 stars to 3 stars that world is just amazing, easily the best in the game bar none and i bet hardly any disagree from a design and execution pov.
Just a prediction... "I see a winner"
