the best action RPG game ever made

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 0

at first i was very sceptical about this game. i mean, disney and square? why would both of them team up to make a video game? it wasn't until i saw a lot of previews for it and actually played the game myself that i totally changed my point of view. the graphics are amazing and the gameplay is very unique and very original. it's also pretty easy to get used to. the storyline has to be one of the best ever created by square. about the only flaw that this game has is the out of control camera angles. the camera sometimes doesn't stay the way you want it to and it jumps around alot making it slightly difficult to defeat the enemies. but who cares about a crazy camera anyways. :) i just have to say that i absolutely adore this game [i have beaten it 3 times already and counting...] and that every RPG fan and/or disney fan, not to mention fans of square :), should add kingdom hearts to their video game collection.

Ok, I originally hated this game from day one, before I played it. But once I played it I actually kind of like it now.
I've never liked disney much, but I am a hardcore square fan, and I do like the final fantasy characters.
The disney characters are not overly sickly [weak], and the game has a somewhat more complex storyline than I originally thought. Envolving many worlds being one and such.
But it plays extremley well, has very VERY nice animation and voice acting (except for lance bass doing sephiroth - that is truly an insult).
All in all it's very good but still not as good as most of square's other non-ff side projects like Chrono Trigger/Cross, Legend of Mana, or Mario RPG.

Disney meets Final Fantasy

Above all this game is very cute and worth your money. The cast of characters range from Goofy, Donald, Mickey, Peter Pan, and even The Little Mermaid. All of the Disney classic movies are involved in this wonderful game. If there was a ten star rating then I would give this little beauty ten stars.

Gameplay - 10/10
It's a little bit different to the previous final fantasy games - instead of choosing a range of actions and watching the characters go through the actions, you are the one actually moving the main character around. You are the one jumping from platform to platform or swimming to the other side of a river, etc. It's pretty much real time gameplay. You mainly use the analog sticks and the buttons. Commands are a bit to get used to but once you figure it out - it's easy.

Storyline - 10 /10
You start out of the young boy named Sora and your two friends: Rikku and Kari, are lost to you when your world vanishes. Next thing you know you end up having Goofy and Donald join your team. From then on you are searching for Kari and Rikku. I would continue on about the storyline but I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't played it.

Characters: 10/10
Who can't love Goofy carrying a shield and yelling "Garsh." or magic wielding Donald - getting into an argument with Sora. You even have the Dalmations, Winnie the Pooh and his pals, Peter Pan and all of the characters in his world, and so many more.

Above all this game is good for children too. It doesn't have any bad language or violence in it. Enjoy.

This game is very enjoyable. I have two small children and they love to watch me play. My son is 7 and he tries to play it's a little dificult for him to figure out where to go, so he needs help. So this game may not be suitable for children just learning to read and understand what they are reading.

This game, while simple in it's storyline shows us the depth and power of Disney matched with Square/Enix. First Square and Enix merge, effectively bringing together the makers of two of the largest RPG's of all time (Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy). Now, we have the perfect pairing of wit, humor, heart and pure Square story. Based in many of the worlds from Disney Legends, your character Sora is a superb study in dynamic role playing. The chains you can get going in Sora's attacks are amazing. The extra battles in the sky over London and in the Hercules Arena are outstanding. To learn this battle style, you must have wits of steel and thumbs of Orchaleum.

The battle against Sephiroth, one of the best known villians from the Final Fantasy series is awesome. I never did beat Sephiroth but the battle was intense and I had him beaten to his knees several times.

The bottom line is the sequel will be amazing as it revisits many of the same worlds and reinvents itself. This game essentially creates a new genre, blending a soulful cast with characters from Disney lore. The underpinning story is not to be missed, be sure you get the extended ending by following the Brady Games guide.

The summons are a bit hard to leverage but Tinker Bell comes in handy in some of the tougher battles. 360 degree rotating battles with the Shadow King in the sky above London and the final villian will thrill and captivate audiences of all ages. The secrets hidden in the game are rightly difficult to find and awe inspiring in their execution.

A good stepping stone for a new franchise.

Kingdom Hearts sure was something when it was first announced. The second SquareSoft fanboys heard there was going to be "basically Final Fantasy with Disney characters", they flipped out. And I mean, really flipped out. The thought of Squall or Auron teaming up with Mickey Mouse and Pluto didn't exactly sound like a good idea. But as the game's development progressed, it looked better, and it became obvious that it wasn't going to be "just Final Fantasy for kids". And thank god for that. While I originally gave Kingdom Hearts 3 stars when I first reviewed it in 2002, I've changed my mind during a recent replay, getting myself used to everything again in preperation for KH2. Sure, the story is simple for the most part, and doesn't truely pick up until the GBA sequel, but it's the fun that matters, and KH is full of it. Add in the charm that the Disney characters bring, and you've got a very good game.

You play as Sora, a boy who has strange dreams. In fact, that's where you start playing. Choosing between a sword, a scepter or a shield, you learn the basics of combat, and begin to fight what will be your main enemy in the game- the Heartless. Shadow creatures that attack you at nearly all times. After waking up, we find out that Sora lives on a small island with his friends Kairi and Riku. They have dreams of leaving the island to see what else is out there, and set forth to do this very soon. When that day comes though, the Heartless attack. Sora fights back with a wooden sword, but it's no use, and he's pretty much a goner. But then he recieves the Keyblade, and the tables are turned. He makes it out of there just in time, and ends up in a new place. At the same time, on a different planet, King Mickey has gone missing. That's right, Mickey Mouse is a king. His Captain of the Knights and Head Wizard, Goofy and Donald, are out to find him in their Gummi Ship. They're also out looking for the Keyblade holder, and end up with Sora. From there on, they have to search for Mickey, defeat the Heartless, and restore worlds that are about to be destroyed or consumed by darkness. All of the worlds are Disney-related, which leads to a lot of diversity in the gameplay. Also, a few Final Fantasy characters, mostly the ones from the PlayStation games, are here as well. Some are rivals and some are friends that'll help you out. It's all very cool, and I don't see why some people still refuse to play this because of the Disney element.

Gameplay isn't turnbased- it's all action. You can run, jump, roll, glide, and attack in any environment, giving you more than just the "defend" option in tough fights. You can also assign three magic spells to a button for faster access to the more useful spells. Regardless of how good you are in this game, it's still bothersome to go through the Magic menu just to use Gravity or Cure in the middle of a boss fight. Why do that when you can assign them so you're not a sitting duck? As you level up, you'll also gain special attacks. In all honesty, 2/3 of them aren't useful, but they look cool. Sure, they deal tons of damage, but I prefer to save my MP for healing. Some of these attacks have you tossing your Keyblade like a boomerang and taking out long range foes, while others (like the more useful ones) are massive combo attacks that kill off your average Heartless with one move. What's more, when you get certain items, you can summon a few Disney greats into battle...and Mushu too. Genie launches dozens of magic attacks at enemies, Simba charges up for a huge roar, Bambi helps out by spreading HP and MP spheres all around for a few minutes, Dumbo lets you ride and spray enemies down with his trunk (as dirty as that sounds), and Tinkerbell...well, I still don't know what she really does. I've been told that she acts as Phoenix from the FF series, but I've yet to get anything like that to happen. Then again, there weren't many times I needed her assistance, especially with Bambi's help. Mushu is basically Dumbo, but shoots fire instead. Donald and Goofy have decent AI for the most part, and you can program their attack patterns like if you want them to use regular attacks frequently and special attacks rarely/only in an emergency, as well as using items. Something useful that isn't mentioned on most sites is that when you target an enemy, you can hit the triangle button to have them attack the target. And in most worlds, you can get the protagonist from its movie to join you in place of Donald or Goofy. Aladdin, Peter Pan, Ariel, Jack, Beast, and Tarzan will help you out, especially if you have them in place of Goofy. Finally, there's a decent amount of replay in KH. Also included is a Winnie the Pooh world, entirely optional, but essential to getting a secret movie if you play the game on Expert mode (slightly improved enemy AI and you take 1.5 times as much damage as you do on Normal). Finding 99 Dalmation puppies is another side-quest that'll cost you a few hours of searching, as is getting every item made in the Moogle Synthesis shop. It's also the only way to get the Ultima Weapon for Sora- making one of everything they offer. This is where most of the extra hours will come in- where I can normally beat the game in about 13 hours, my best file comes in at 22 hours after getting the Ultima Weapon and everything else required for the bonus movie.

For its time, KH looked fantastic for the most part. The in-game graphics were good: not better than Final Fantasy X quality-wise, but a hell of a lot more was happening on the screen, while managing to stay at a steady 30 frames per second most of the time. But then there's the topic of the cut scenes. Half of them are done with the basic in-game graphics, and others are enhanced. What this means is that the average ones have Sora's mouth moving while his facial expression remains disinterested. The other half of scenes were redone for the American version since we have new voice actors, and this way, experssions would match the way the characters talk. I just wish this had been done for 100% of the time- it seems lazy. As for the voice acting and soundtrack, it's almost excellent. The Final Fantasy characters that previously never talked sound like normal people, not mere characters, which is a breath of fresh air. The funniest part about the voice acting for the FF characters is that Lance Bass from N'Sync plays Sephiroth. This caused people to go suicidal (which should've went through since they're lame enough to worship an overrated villain from a horrible game), despite Sephiroth having maybe 5 lines of dialogue, 1 line of which is a grunt from when he's hit. Sadly, Genie isn't voiced by Robin Williams. I don't get why he wouldn't do this project, but he's voiced by the half-assed guy who did Genie's voice in Return of Jafar and the Aladdin cartoon series. That's right, the voice of Homer Simpson is Genie again...and he sounds just like Homer, only always yelling no matter how serious the situation is. Also, Eddie Murphy's not here to voice Mushu, which is understandable for two reasons: he currently only lends his skills things sure to fail, and Mushu only has one line of dialogue: "I AM MUSHU!". That's it. The soundtrack's all good, as most world themes are well-known scores from their respective movies, but some do get old. Atlantica and Halloween Town have one main theme that plays constantly, and you may end up muting it and cranking up some different music. And then there's the main theme of the game, "Simple and Clean" by Utada Hikaru. I never liked this song, mostly because of how she sings it- very forced. Some call it beautiful, and swear by this song, but when it's the only song in the game, and has 3 variations, there's a problem.

I think I've covered all the bases- Kingdom Hearts is a great experience, and something that'll hold over those waiting for the next Final Fantasy, or even next decent Square game since they're not doing so great these days. I mean, Drakengard? What the hell, Square. What the hell? And once this one's over and you check out images from the sequel, you'll definately be hooked.

THe Best Game to hit the system since.............EVER!

This game is really amazing. It has a really deep story with some comedy too. i can never stop playin. The graphics are flat out amazing and the gameitself is amazing. At first it might seem really wierd but as you progress the game gets really exiting. This game is alot better then Final Fanasy because instead of having to have to pick your move and then watch the charecter do it you can do it yourself. this game is a must buy. If you go to electronics boutiqe u can trade in three games for a new one thats what i did and it was worth ever game. If u sont want to give in games its worth every penny. GO FOR IT!!!

Kingdom Hearts rules! It's about a young boy named Sora whose home is attacked by Heartless and he is seperated from his friends Riku and Kairi. And he winds up in 'another world' called Traverse Town (which includes a slew of Final Fantasy characters Yippie!) with a weapon called the Keyblade that can destroy the Heartless. He meets up with Donald and Goofy who are searching for their King (guess who). Sora joins them to find Riku and Kairi and their journey begins. Along the way, you'll be able to go to classic Disney locations, upgrade your Keyblade with styles like the Fairy Harp and Crabclaw, fight tons of different kinds of Heartless, and control Sora and in a sense, Donald and Goofy, who follow Sora wherever he goes (Unless they're taken away for a special reason). Note that when you come into MOST Disney-themed worlds, you can switch out Donald or Goofy for a character from that world, like Peter Pan in Neverland and Jack Skellington in Halloween Town. A lot of people seem to complain about the camera. Well guess what I just CAN NOT see any problems with the camera. The gameplay is fairly easy, you just bash Heartless and Disney villians with the X button (Note: This game is only for PlayStation 2) jumping is O. That will take a little bit of time getting used to for those who favor X and triangle being jump. In conclusion this is Kingdom Hearts:

Gameplay: 9.5 Got a little repitive when trying to level up

Sound:10.0 This is seriously the best sound in any game ever. It even got it's own soundtrack!

Graphics: 9.9 The graphics are awesome ecxept that sometimes the characters face lost their 3-D touch and didn't show much expression.

Story: 10.0 Most compelling video game story ever (eagerly awaiting Kingdom Hearts 2!)

This is the best game on the planet. So get of your chair and go buy it. Like now.

Good and the weird and Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom hearts is a quest about a little boy named sora who is looking for his 2 freinds Kari and Riku. He separated from all he knows from different worlds. But wait theres disney involved to. Final Fantasy + Disney = Kingdom Hearts. The story is great but the graphics are a little uff. Sora is met by Donald and Goffy who are sent by there gals. To find King mickey. Whos office has a huge door, Anyway he gos off to find the probablem with the doors and heartless and the blablablablabla. So on Soras quest he meets with Different disney characters to join the party. The combo moves are nice and the bosses are cool. Kingdom hearts is a challenging game like all the other Final fantasy games. It is ok but not the best out there. I give a dissapointing 4 stars overall and 3 fun stars, Out of a game that could of been 5 overall. Look for the sequall in December 2005

Kingdom Hearts ROCKS!

Don't be fooled by those stupid one star reviewers! They only don't like the game because of the Disney themed worlds. The story is awesome! The graphics are tight and it's a lot of fun to play! Even with the Disney worlds. They are way more fun than it would be to visit Final Fantasy Worlds. (Although I'd like to go there in KH2). Buy this game! It's soooooooo cool. Sure there's a tiny problem with camera angles, but I really didn't have that many problems. But, don't be fooled by it's cutsey worlds. This game is really hard! I mean crazy hard! It was still good!
