This is a high calibur game. It requires previous knowledge of role-playing games. Also strategy games. They both blend beautifully in this game. This game isn't just for little kids.
Wow! I'm impressed.

I would love nothing more than to give this game a...negative review. Square and Disney? No way I don't think so. But alas, they had to go and make a great game. To be honest this is one of the best games I've played in a long time. The characters are well done, fleshed out, and believable. Yes I know I just said Donald and Goofy are believable but with a little imagination they are. Plus its kind of cool watching them [fight]. The story also well done. It flowed nicely, carrying you from one point to another (with brief detours for mini-games and side quests), but you don't feel rushed. The graphics are beautiful, but not so indepth that they become the focus (see FFX), the characters also have voices, but only during key parts, and grunts and cries during battle. So anyway lets review: fabulous story, wonderful time-honored characters, great graphics. Got it? Now on to the cons.
I hate the camera work. No other way to put it. It spins out of control, you're constantly blocked by trees, poles, buildings, etc. But trust me look past this detail you don't want to miss this game. Other cons include how often you have to jump from ledge to ledge, lily pad to lily pad. You get the point. This possibly is my own failing as it takes me around 10-15 tries everytime. Perhaps I'm just not skilled enough at the act of jumping. Swimming also took some getting used to, but it really wasn't all that difficult except during the boss fights.
Oh and by the way my personal opinion? Wonderland [disappoints]! I hate that place, but it was oh so true to the Disney movie, so I can't really complain.
Anyway bottom line excellent game. Buy it now. I mean right now! Go! Buy it already!
P.S. Buy the Brady Games Strategy guide (very helpful)
There's not much I can really say, except...

That although I had some difficulty getting it when it first came out, I find this game to be the best Disney-related product I have ever seen, and the fifth-best video game I have ever played. This game pulls on the heartstrings of Nostalgia (which for me, means the Nightmare Before Christmas segment,) and strums a delightful tune with them about a special young boy who journeys across the multiverse in an attempt to save worlds from "The Heartless," one of the best bad-guy concepts I have ever encountered.
Although even a child would understand the basic good-vs-evil premise, when looked at by an adult, one can see there's so much of a deeper meaning to it. I've played it five times, and I'm still discovering new things about its story and characters.
This game is simply a masterpiece that might even make some of the movies it references obsolete, given time. It's not up to the level of, for example, Chrono Trigger, but good enough to merit the five-star rating...
Yet... there is much unsolved... many things undone...
When I play the game, there is a tiny nagging sensation of something not quite finished. I feel almost as though the game didn't quite do everything there was to be done. Some of these flaws I can define pretty well. The game would have been more fun if the different worlds hadn't been so segmented, Sora obviously hasn't finished his quest yet, etc... Still, they're making a second one, and hopefully, that will clear up a lot of these issues. If it doesn't, however, this game will not be any less spectacular by itself. I truly enjoyed it, and if you've ever been a kid, I suspect you will too.
Disappointment for hard-core FF fans

before everything else, i just want to say that if you're a real final fantasy fan, then get this game to add to your collection. however, be prepared to be disappointed. i was really looking forward to playing this game, but it all went downhill the moment i took it out of the amazon.com box and looked at the cover. first of all, it's predominantly disney; i was expecting a nice, even distribution of characters from disney and final fantasy. second, the battle system was really disappointing as i'm a huge fan of final fantasy's turn-based battles. the battle system here is more like the one in zelda and legend of mana. third, the graphics were not as good as ffx's, so it was pretty hard to get down to a lower level of graphics quality. fifth, the camera angles makes me seasick, and i keep slipping off the damn platforms. these are stuff that i never had problems with in final fantasy games...this is a great videogame, but it's not up to par with the final fantasy games.
Totaly AWSOME

Kingdom Hearts had an arduous task to undertake if it were to become a major title in the echelon of Squaresoft games. Many gamers "bombed it" before it even reached the story boards, and after Final Fantasy X there was a question of weather Squaresoft's new brain child would be able to top such a gaming masterpiece. In addition when the concept of merging Disney characters with Final Fantasy characters was announced Squaresoft received a lot of "flack". The theme of the game, as well as character choices seemed to be a cause for concern with many gamers, however any doubts that existed towards Kingdom Hearts' quality as a gaming experience were soon laid to rest when the game was released. Squaresoft fans were treated to a new type of RPG, with a story line that rivaled that of any Final Fantasy title. Merging the framework of a classic RPG with an action adventure game, Squaresoft had managed to innovate and create a game that was unlike anything anyone had ever seen before. The battles in the game were conducted in a real time action environment, however still holding true to the RPG style of attack as players had a choice of physical attacks, magic attacks, or summons. As with any RPG leveling up was quintessential for the progression of the game. With each new level, characters increased in strength, defense, attack, and magic. In addition, new abilities could only be learned through the process of leveling up, for example (like the Final Fantasy titles) cure upgrades to cura, which in turn upgrades to curaga. The game proved to be both challenging and addicting as player soon became lost in this merged world of Disney and Squaresoft.
This is a title that any self-respecting gamer should have in their collection. Addicting and challenging, a complex storyline, a fantastically phenomenal battle system, with superior sound, and graphics that only Squaresoft could deliver, Kingdom Hearts stands as a masterpiece, as well as a unique gamming experience, and has achieved greatness, as well as a place in Squaresoft's collection of masterpiece titles.
Not bad but spare us the video!

A decent offering but you are forced to watch what feels like endless video to move the game forward. You wouldn't want to play this over and over again because of this. They would have been better suited to allow a fast-forward feature. We just want to play! Save us the long, drawn out videos.

Fighting- the combat isn't as in depth as traditional gamers would expect since combat consists of dodging striking and magic. Still you may find yourself sweating when a fight gets really close.
Dificulty-This game takes awhile to get through, but isn't really that hard. I only got stuck on two occasions, once because I was new to the game and another time because I only leveld up to a minimum (and because I'm not patiant enough to sit down and put effort into winning) boss fights are only boss fights because they take longer to beat than reguler bad guys, difficulty ranges from challenging and "that was it"?
Storyline-This is where the game gets tricky, the presence of Diney
characters is what makes the game unique and somewhat enticing but at times take away from the storyline. I really can't make a solid decision on this matter. On one hand the rather deap storyline would be more deep and maybe even emotional without disney characters but then the game would lose it's uniqueness and become another adventure game, it's up to the gamer on this one.
Graphics-the graphics are pretty inconsistent, at times this game looks actuely pretty good, other times this game looks like a PS1 game. Areas arn't as large as they could be (things are closer to each other than they actualy are) But manage to creat a sense of actualy being there. One thing that makes me mad is that the final cut scene with Sora and Kari is just beutiful, movie good. After watching it I said "Why wasn't the rest of the game like that"? Seriosly the animation changes quality during cut scenes where one moment sora looks life like and the next he looks like a cardboard cut out with a movieng mouth.
Fun- another you decide, a good portion of this game is looking for what your seposed to do, but when you do the game gets enjoyable, until the next time your lost.
Charecters-Sora,Kari,Riku donald and goofy are the main characters, but i was really disapointed that Yuffie, Squal lionheart(leon) and Cloud didn't get bigger parts because I really liked those characters. Cid is basicly your mechanic and the remaining Final phantasy cast get even less screen time. The disney characters get only get screen time if your there, and after their part in the story is up they just stand there and "say" (there are only voice overs during cut scenes) about three lines on a loop. Sepheroth is only used as an optional oponent in the tournaments and that's it, which is really dum since he could have been a really good character in this game.
Soundtrack-I really have to tip my hat at the voice work and music in this game. Haley Joel Osment (the kid from the sixth sense and secondhand lions) does the voice of Sora and several other actors do the rest of the original cast. All the final phantasy characters are done by the original people who did them, same with the Disney characters. The music is good, not lord of the rings good, but better than alot of other games.
Over all- This is a fun game and is pretty good if you give it a chance. People who don't take it seriosly because of the disney characters or are mad because the Final fantasy characters have bit parts may cheat them selves out of a good game. Still traditional RPG players may not find this format fun and "serios" gamers may find it too easy. but if you are open minded you may be surprised and may actualy enjoy yourself.
Where it all Began.............

This is where it all began, since Kingdom Hearts 2 came out verybody that hasen't played the original is wandering how all of this developed. Wellllllllll this is where it all began. When I first Saw this game in 2002 I thought to My self (What da F*** this is sure to be one gay ass game). But then I got it for my brothers birthday and Since I found out there were Final Fantasy Characters in It I gave this RPG a try. And I found to love it. The main thing that attract my attention was the Theme Song in the beginning of the game "Simple & Clean" by Utada Hikaru, and then basically went off from there. Although I disliked the Disney levels Like the Alice in Wonderland and The little Mermaid, I enjoyed the story. I like the balance between light and dark moments in the game and to think the voice actor for Sora (the main character) is Haley Joal Osment. But I really Enjoyed the game, I finish the whole thing at Level 100, defeating the hardest boss in the game Sepheroth (from Final Fantasy VII), obtained the strongest weapons in the game-Ultima Weapon(Keyblade)Save the Queen(Magic Staff) & Save the King(Shield) and also unlocking the secret(alternate) ending which reveals Kngdom Hearts 2 which just came out a couple of days ago. Get this game right away u might be amazingly surprised.
