EXCELLENT!

I own Jak 2 and I absolutely love it. People say that it is too hard, and I agree that the game is hard, but Jak 2 is the type of game that will make you throw your controllers around the room in fustration but then check your missions list to see what will make you lose your next night's sleep. Jak 2 is awesome. It has by far the best visuals of any PlayStation 2 game. They are stunning. The controls are excellent and the voice-overs are as good as a movie. My only complaint is the fact that you have to drive around in your air-cars through the giant city too many times. That got a little fustrating. Overall, despite its few letdowns, Jak 2 is an awesome game. I recommend it for all gamers looking for a challenge. I can't wait to get my hands on Jak 3 when it comes out later this year.

Im surprised I actually got the time to write this review. Because I haven't really been able to do much of anything, all because of Jak II. This sequel to Jak & Daxter is so good, so deep, that it's become one of the most addicting games for me.

Jak II takes place right after the first Jak & Daxter. But Jak II has a completely different angle than the original. Unlike the first funny Jak & Daxter where it was all fun and games, Jak II is serious, dark, and somewhat grim. But, don't worry Jak & Daxter fans, the comedy that you loved from the first one is all here in the second installment.

The story starts out like this: You were thrown into a different world where they arrest Jak and begin expirements on him. Two years after the constant beating and expirements on Jak, Daxter comes to rescue. After rescuing Jak and escaping the prison, Jak is cought by the police... But this time Jak isn't going down without a fight, turns out the expirements they conducted on him changed him into "Dark Jak." After ripping the officers to shreds you are then given a job by a ex-soldier named Toren. That's when the story unfolds and your sucked into the game even more.

First off, the gameplay is almost the same as the first Jak & Daxter but it uses an almost identical engine to the Grand Theft Auto series. You get to steal cars, wreck the cars, take on missions or "jobs," and you can even get chased by the police. While it is identical in gameplay of Grand Theft Auto it's still reminicent of the original Jak & Daxter.

The different missions you take on from your various employers are fun and they are never the same as previous missions. So the game never feels repetitive which greatly helps the replay value because it keeps you wanting more. While most of the missions are difficult, they are certainly enjoyable. You start out comepleting small tasks for your employers, for instance, in your first job you have to steal a flag from a tower. When you show that you can do the small jobs, you move up to harder jobs.

After comepleting some missions you recieve weapons and gadgets as a payment. For example you might get a new gun or a new hoverboard. My personal favorite gadget is the hoverboard because you get to do some pretty cool tricks while shooting your weapons.

The graphics in Jak II are stunning. My oh my, they are stunning. Right when you jump into the game you will notice that. The most beautiful level is the forest area. The grass, the trees, the dirt, the water... All perfect. I found my self just walking in the forest and throwing it into first person mode to get a good look at the area. The visual effects are wonderful as well. The dark eco being absorbed from Jak is so awesome to look at, because power begins to surge off of his body and light starts to shoot out from him.

The sound was great, but for some reason the voice acting was a little sketchy. For instance, in some parts of the game the voice acting was very low in volume and then it got loud all of the sudden. So I sat there on some of the story parts turning the volume on my TV up and down. While there was that problem with the voice acting, the voices themselves were done perfectly. I especially love Jak's voice because he didn't speak in the last Jak & Daxter, so it was sort of a treat to hear him talk. Did I mention he even... Curses? Yeah, this time Jak is angry and on the edge so you might hear him spit out a couple of... "words"... But don't worry, this game still holds a "Teen" ESRB rating.

The control of the game is simple, so it isn't that hard to master. It's very reminicent of the last game so players of the first Jak will feel right at home. The control of the vehicles are great as well, everything feels right in place and where it should be.

In short, this game is great. So great that I would say this game has to be one of the top games of the year. So do yourself a favor and go pickup a copy. I assure you, this game is nothing short of a masterpeice.

Hit
+ Perfect control
+ Great gameplay
+ Jaw dropping graphics
+ Great sound and voice acting
+ Awesome and driving storyline
+ Innovative and dark turn for the series

Miss
_ Voice acting has a wierd volume problem

Ok, I get sick of the pantywaists crying about how hard this game is and how frustrated they're getting and blah blah blah. Yes, it is a difficult game. It will take time (probably alot of time) to beat it. I've had the thing for a year and I finally just got around to completing it! But I can't think of a game I have ever played and beaten that didn't have its difficult and frustrating parts. All games are like that.

Anyway, here's what I really have to say about Jak II: It's true, you might get a little ticked off on certain missions. I was stuck on the "Collect cargo in port" and "Destroy 5 Hellcat cruisers" missions for a loooong time. But you just really have to have patience and figure out exactly what you need to do to move on. There is such a variety of missions and things to do in the game, you'll never get bored with repetition. And the weapons are pretty cool. One reviewer on here was complaining about how it takes the gun too long to reload. Yeah, if you only have the shotgun. Later on you get the rifle, machine gun, and Peacemaker (which obliterates several enemies at once with electric shock). You really have to get good at all areas of this game to beat it: avoiding cops, dodging hits, using the weapons, the hoverboard, stadium racing, timed events, etc. The Dark Jak option is very cool; it's like unleashing the Hulk, and you only wish he could stick around a little longer so you could play with his devasting power more. For those of you concerned with the "T" rating: the violence here is about like Ratchet and Clank. There is a bit of language and some more mature humor in parts, but they're only really in the cut scenes (so you can skip them if you really want to). The end battle in this game is alot like the finale of "Aliens." Pretty sweet.

All in all, this a very cool, challenging game. I guarantee that you will have problems with it and be probably be tempted to smash your console in frustration at some point. But after you finally fire that last victorious shot, you will sit back, let out a deep sigh, and say, "Well, I guess that wasn't so bad. . . . Where's Jak 3?"

This Game has it all!

I am a very avid RPG fan, but it isn't often that I am truly impressed like I was with JakII. I played the first one and I loved the attention to detail and the humor so naturally I wanted to try out the second. Now, usually what holds with movies holds true with video games, sequels SUCK.
I was truly pleased to find an exception here. There are a lot of different activities ... blasting away metal heads, solving puzzles, zoomer races. The missions are a good mix of these and it helps to keep you interested.
One of the things I love about the game is the humor, Daxter playing "whack the metal head" was a scream!I wish a lot of companies would take a hint from Naughty Dog and mix things up!

Nothing like the first one, once you are in a level you have to stay there until you defeat it (which may take a while. You spend most of your time in the air driving your flying car finding someone to talk to. Too much air traffic. Some levels are really hard while others are way too easy. I am about 60 percent through and can't wait to finish it so I can dump it!

Jak's okay, but don't get your hopes up that this is going to be a great game. The engine is pretty good, the graphics aren't great and let me say a one word phrase, "rental." This game just does not have the replayability factor, although you also wont solve it in one day like some platform games such as VooDoo Vince. The game is okay, just not great!

I got this game for my nephew to play and every once in awhile I caught myself playing it too. It is a very exciting and addictive game. At first I couldn't understand why they would put in so many races or time trials. But when you get deeper in the game you realize that the races and the time trials help build your skills. The time trials also gets you familiar with the terrain and makes you think alot more. This game is great if you want to spend some time thinking through the missions.

The characters are great and the story line is impressive. A great sequel.

I am part of the small minority that didnt think Jak & Daxter was anything special. Jak 2 is much different. Closer to R&C than to Jak 1, this game has had me hooked for months. The story is so much better, very much because Jak can now talk. The dark future of Haven City is so much better than than the sunny island in Jak1. The dark, dreary mood mixed with guns, hover bikes, and evil bad guys just blows the original out of the water. Truly, this is infinatly better than most any game I have ever played. This game is just as good as Halo, GTA, MGS, and Ratchet and Clank. Buy it now! Jak2 is number1

Lisen this game is so much better than jak and daxter the graphics are better the characters are cool and its not a game that you can beat in 2 or 3 days it its fun and hard to beat but its worth it because after u beat a mission u ussually get a weapon upgrade. Another thing i think is cool about this game is that u can ride hovercrafts whenever you want and shoot while your on it, jak and daxter u cant u can only get hover crafts rarley. This game is kinda like grand theft auto but its a really good game.THIS IS A MUST BUY I RECOMEND THAT YOU BUY IT ITS DA BEST GAME IVE EVER PLAYED IN MY LIFE
