Waste of time and money

The first Jak & Daxter game I found to be stressfull and difficult in sections. This one is all over. More racing, more endless running back and forth across huge zones. The worst part is having to repeat the whole zone if you die instead of letting you go back to a safe point. I got so frustrated with all the racing, bumping into things and other cars that I simply put the controller down and walked away from the game less than 1/2 the way through it. I have not gone back to it. It's been collecting dust the last three months. A total waste of money.

One of the best games on the market.

This is one hell of a game. For some reason, after the original Jak and Daxter game was released, all the hype for the sequels seemed to die down. This makes no sense because Jak II and III are leaps and bounds above Jak and Daxter. In Jak II, Naughty Dog takes the adventure element we love so much and adds to it an arsenal of truly kick-ass weapons. Throw in a GTA-stlye ability to hijack any vehicle you see, and a free-roaming aspect and you have one of the best games ever. Its loads of fun to steal a gunship out from under the Crimson Guard (the city police) and fly through the extensive city environment, blowing the living crap out of everything (and everyone) in sight. The controls are top-notch, allowing you to jump in the air, kick a guard in the face, dive down on another one, fists first and then drive a three-shot-burst from your rifle into his chest. Possibly the only bad thing about Jak is that he moves slower than Fat Albert dipped in cement waist-high in pea soup. Luckily, there seems to be a surplus of vehicles in Haven City that you can steal, er, borrow to outrun your enemies. Another feature that makes this game worth buying is the remarkable storyline. The cutscenes (all 60+ minutes of them) feel more like a Spielberg movie than in-game cinematics. You actually feel a connection with the characters as the story advances and the plot thickens. As I mentioned before, there are over an hour of cutscenes throughout the game, so you know that this is not one of those games you dish out 50 bucks for and breeze through in an afternoon. I rented this game for 10 days and only got about 75% through the story. This is a challenging, engaging, and very long game. There's enough variety to ensure that it does not become repetitive and the developers have done a great job with racing, shooting, protecting, and the like. Hands-down the best installment of the Jak series and in my opinion, the best action-adventure game on the market today. Buy it! It's well worth the money.

Ugh... Horrible

I loved the first Jak and Daxter almost as much as I loved Ratchet and Clank. I had watched several trailers on this game and thought it did look a little gloomy, but still filled with action and with many more new things to do. I was massively dissapointed.

This game does that dumb "time travel" thing, which always gets messed up. There are endless possibilites and theories on time and these just make my head spin. Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter were both sunny, bright games. I guess Naughty Dog got tired of this, because in this game the setting is so boring everytime I even try to play this game I put the control down after 5 minutes. Everything looks the same, so navigating is extremely hard. This game is as trashy as GTA, copying the map, killing random people, and stealing cars. I don't find any of these fun, and I usually feel like it's wrong to play this game. Do some people find this fun? I don't understand. Finding all the precursor orbs is near impossible without a guide, and I'm most certainly not going out to spend more money on more worthless trash. Wow! If you get all the orbs you can make Jak have a big head or play the game on an even harder level. Who cares? Also the terrible music, if you can call it music, is basically the same two notes over and over again in different octaves. Dom Dom Dom Dom Dom Dom Dom Dom Dum Dum Dum Dum Dum Dum Dum Dum ect. ect.

Another thing is the boring storyline. The whole game is just people telling Jak he's no good and sending him (umm.. you) on stupid little missions that don't have any point. After you feel as though you actually accomplished something (which is very rare) it's "Whoops! Now you have to do an even harder version because something didn't work. Time to go kill more things!" Incredibly boring. Also, the dumb little jobs you're sent on often take hours due to the fact 1) There are so many places to fall of the edge it's not even fun to laugh at someone else 2) Everything is so dark and looks the same you don't know where you are at times 3) You constantly have to go back to the very beginning each time you die. I can see why you have no lives.

Naughty Dog had a nice setting with likeably characters and then for some reason completely changed this. I wish they had left poor Jak and Daxter alone and made a new game, because this has no similarities to the first one. Yes Naughty Dog, Ratchet and Clank has guns, but these guns turn enemies into chickens, ducks, and sheep. All of them are ACME style, which I absolutely love. Jak's weapons are incredibly boring and kill everything. Don't buy this one or the terrible sequel. Buy Jak and Daxter and pretend that they went home and lived happily ever after. This whole game has been deleted of my memory card and I'm almost ready to sell it. Go for Ratchet and Clank or Sly Cooper, which both have excellent sequels and are filled with fun.

It could have been way better

After Dark Eco experiments, not only does Jak turn pure evil and seem to love it, but his mind only wants to do one thing that any superior (by superior I'm referring to the villain, Baron Praxis) would call a huge crime: revenge.
The game itself seems like a ripoff from Grand Theft Auto (i.e. stealing vehicles and killing innocents) and Ratchet and Clank (i.e. the guns). The Ratchet and Clank ripoff part ended up really badly, because the Blaster and the Vulcan Fury can't lock on to enemies.
The humor is also terrible. There's one cinematic which the camera first shows a 20's girl's face as she's speaking, then her breast. Daxter even gets himself drunk in another cinematic. Some comic relief!
You may have noticed I rated the fun two stars. This is because: a. the music is pretty good (recommended for fans of composers like Eric Serra), and b. you do get to explore interesting places (Myst fans should know what I mean).
In conclusion I think this game should be rated M and not T.

What is everyone crying about?

I dont understand why some people are saying that Jak 2 is too offensive. It says T for teen on the cover so they have been warned. also Jak 2 is alot better than the original Jak. The 1st one wat too boring and not that cool. It was too cutesy wootsy. Jak 2 has very cool weapons and the Dark Jak is a very cool added bonus. This is the best sequel to any game that i've ever seen.

Awesome game

Okay this game rox!!!! okay some people find it hard... i personally dont think so. i mean c'mon you have GUNS!!! guns rule!!!! and Dark Jak is officially THE coolest. I admit it does get a little irritating getting from place to place in Haven City but being able to hijack a random ship makes it a bit easier. However one thing that kinda irritated me was - YOU DIDNT GET TO KILL PRAXIS!!!!! *sulks* >.< ne ways it was still good and the grapics r awsome if dats how u spell it.

challenging but not unfair, pick it up!

This game is definitely harder than the first one, but it never felt unfair to me. I think all of the people complaining about the difficulty aren't taking the time to practice and learn the controls. It gets easier the more you play. Anyway, the graphics are great, the gameplay is very diverse, and it took me a good 20+ hours to finish it, and when you finish it, there are a lot of secrets to unlock. Parents be aware that it's been changed from an E rating to a T rating, as there are some mild swears in there, but nothing worse than you can see on 8pm TV.

A game worth buying!!

First and foremost, I have read almost every single review that amazon.com has placed about Jak 2: Renegade. I was quite disappointed how some people reacted to the game. Some said it was too dark and others said that it is to frustrating. I think most of the people that bought Jak 2 were expecting something easier. The point is that Jak 2 isn't easy nor is it happy and friendly. The game is darker; not exceptionally dark. I am a huge Jak fan, and will always be. The two years of waiting had finally ended and I was ready for anything. What I was happy to find was that the story had changed and the game had taken a sharp turn, but it still remained the same in the sense having a whole world to explore.
The missions aren't easy, but I'm glad about that. The first game could be finished in one day, but Jak 2 is much more challenging and longer. But what I really enjoy about Jak 2 is the freedom; not many games have the freedom to be able to explore a whole game without seeing one single loading screen.

Jak 2 is impressive and mesmerizing. It has flaws, but real Jak&Daxter-fans will enjoy it anyway.

Great Game, It is Supposed to be Hard

This game is great. It is a lot different then Precursor Legacy, but it is supposed to be. It is supposed to be for an older audiences, so a few little curses don't matter. What are you guys 10!
It may be harder, but that's a good thing. Most platformers are just mindlessly wondering around finding little things. This one doesn't do that. I spent about 15 hours to beat the game and that was 15 hours of solid gameplay. More games should be like this. Most platformers are way too short.
Its a good game. It does a real good job of re-creating a GTA atmosphere.
Anyway, you other whiny reviwers are just wosses. If you give a great game like this 3 stars just because they say a couple curse words and it is too hard. You all can just go cry to your mommies. For all of you other real gamers who want a good game that is challenging and will take you a while to beat, check out Jak 2
