I really, really wanted to like this game. I got a good ways into the game, with much teeth grinding, but finally ended up trading it in. The thing is, you need the reflexes of a god to get anywhere in the game. The rolling long jump is a good example of this. If you have to perform this move within an extremely short period of time, and you don't pull it off perfectly, you're screwed. I also found the hover bikes to be nearly impossible to control. I personally don't like vehicles to fishtail all over the place when I have to get from point A to Point B as fast as possible. Also, I hate time limits! And escort missions! I like to take as long as I need to complete an objective. I don't like to be rushed.
On the plus side, the level design is awesome, and the characters are very likeable. I also liked the weaponry that Jak gets to use. I just wish it weren't so hard. But, if you think you've got the reflexes of the mighty Zeus, then go ahead and buy the game. But, everyone else may want to rent it first.
Terribly disappointing

I bought this game because I had played the first one, and it was fun, funny, and had the right level of challenge. I was looking forward to another cool action/platforming adventure. But that was NOT what I got.
From the very beginning, the lighthearted, madcap-cartoon tone of the first game is lost. Instead, characters are constantly angry, scowling, and generally put you in a bad mood. I hated Jak's new personality. I would rather him be a "mute" than this "angry young man" type.
In the first game, once you entered an environment, you could wander freely, grabbing Power Cells in any order that you wanted to. Not so in Jak II. Instead, you are given "missions". Now, mission-based gameplay is a pet peeve of mine, since I'm used to games where you figure out your objective on your own, so it may not bother people who are used to this type of thing. It does, however, make ME angry.
If the missions themselves were good, this wouldn't matter, but they're not. They're lame and repetitive to a fault. Shoot this...shoot that...beat this time...what happened to the creative objectives of the first Jak and Daxter?
The most grevious issue to me, however, is the controls. In the previous game, the simple platforming and combat let me concentrate freely on my goals. Here, you must use unwieldy guns and vehicles. What is this, Grand Theft Auto? With the vehicles, I was constantly crashing into things. Then the guards would come after me and shoot at me (yet another GTA copy). With the guns, targeting was terribly slow and clunky. I found it easier to just rush the enemy and punch it, which kind of took away the strategy.
I was just so disappointed with this game. After the fun I had with Jak and Daxter, I thought I would have another great series to play. Sadly, I was wrong.
Awesome...... BUT HARD!!!

If you've gone in a Blockbuster, and noticed a game called Jak II, and
you've never played it. Rent it, this game is three years old and may not
be as popular as before, but now that the PS2 is retired, or not yet... t-
his game is one of the best games they've EVER come out with.
Yes, this game is pretty hard, by I've beat it twice and my goodness, it
ain't THAT hard, folks. If you'd have patience enough and hold those obsc-
enities (did I spell that right?) in your mouth. You'd have a better poss-
ibility of beating Onin's game or defeating Erol in the last race. Or eve-
n killing the Metal Head Leader! Yes, but I find the game... not too hard
nor too easy. It's predecessor is now one of the ALL-time classic of the
PS2 until GTA crashed it with unnecessary profanity, crimes against civil-
ization and this ought to be your answer to Grand Theft Auto... it has st-
reet crime, the Krimezone Guards are the police and a corrupt dictator of
the glorious Haven City.
This game is wonderful and if you've played the Precursor Legacy, you'll
know that we've explored every part of the island Jak, Daxter, Samos, and
Keira lived on.
So now, you'll be amazed by what you find in this special game. And one
tip.... don't skip the movies, no matter if some are silent and no one ta-
lks, don't skip 'em, some secrets are in those movies.
One of the wierdest PS2 Games I have ever Played!

I think this game sucks because I like the way the characters, and the graphics, and landscape design. But the only part of the game I don't like is the storyline because basically in the beginningyou meet this old man and you play many missions in the game and you fight some guy name the baron on some levels and at the end you actually fight the old man who was currently the leader of the metal head army in the game. So I think this game sucks because of the storyline, So If you are looking for a better game to play on the PS2 for the Holiday season! I suggest you not to (by all means) buy this game! I give this game a 2 out of 5!

I think Jak 2 is a really good game. It is best that kids 10 and up play it though, because there are bad words and suggestive themes. I have almost beat the game, and it is very cool.
THIS IS AN EXACT COPY OF GTA!!!!!!!!!!

Where is the innovation people, where is the innovation! People liked GTA because it gave players freedom to do whatever they wanted. Jak 2 copies that perfectly and that's why all the innovation goes down the toilet! The freedom concept is fun but what people don't realize is that if everyone copies it, it will get old and ALL games will suck because every game is the same! I understand putting some aspects of GTA in a game but all Jak 2 is, is an animated version of GTA! That pisses me off. Jak 2 also has a few fundamental problems. Instead of copying GTA they could have put in a strafing like in Ratchet & Clank. This way you can shoot and dodge at the same time. Also, the on screen map of Jak 2 is the worst I've ever seen. To get a decent map you have to pause the game every time! What the hell is that? The map turns with you every time so getting lost is the easiest thing in the world. If they fixed these problems maybe I wouldn't want to break the controller with my bear hands every five minutes. The game gets old fast and you gotta admit it, for a main character Jak kinda sucks too,(his goatee is really stupid, when you get the chance to take it off do it) why can't he be cool like Dante or Snake. The only thing that I really, really liked about Jak 2 is Daxter. He's so damn funny! I laughed my ass off!! The game is solid but it's weakneses overshadow it's strenghs. You don't really need this game. I give Jak 2 2 stars.
Oh My Gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jak II is a incredible game! It is a big improvement from the boring Jak and Daxter #1. The graphics are incredible and the gameplay is unexplainable. You get cool guns later on during the game and a jet board. You can hijack people's hovercrafts and Kill the krimson guards.
But that's not the point of the game. Jak and Daxter get trapped in a rift gate and get thrown into Haven City. He is experimented on with dark eco, and that's how he is able to turn into Dark Jak. Haven City is really a prison cell but it's a city. Daxter still has an addiction to hot babes, so you'll see a lot of that in the game. In general this is a great creation and a must have game.
HMMMMM...... YEAH!!!
