I have liked Naughty Dog ever since their ancient PC game Keef the Thief. I like console platformers, and had a great time with the recent Ratchet & Clank.
Jak 2, though, left me very underwhelmed. It is chock-full of unrealized and nonsensical gameplay ideas. Everyone talks about the big hub town as if it were even remotely clever. It might be...if there were anything there worth exploring. It is huge and empty, and simply serves as a ten-minute commute between missions, utterly void of gameplay.
Not that the missions are overall worth rushing to. Their creativity is about par for the genre, but their difficulty oscillates wildly. Expect to yawn your way through most of the missions, until you encounter the ones which cause broken controllers.
There's one early on where you must flee a tank. Unfortunately, the camera is stuck in the tank's point of view. This must've seemed like a really great idea to someone, but it shouldn't have gotten past the design phase. Expect to have to try the tank thing thirty or so times, simply due to the horrible perspective.
Ratchet & Clank was far superior. Jak 2 has excellent environmental visuals, but that's about it. I returned it without regrets.
too bad

what is so good about jak 2 it is the very definition of an annoying repetetive game. its got super difficulty insanely hard missions and it just flat out isent so fun to play. the graphics in this game arent very good. and the game just has this mission designed gameplay where if you get hit you have to go all the way back and do the same crap. if you wanna have fun get rachet and clank going commando. insomniac is really kicking the hell out of naughty dog. on the other hand if you wanna be punished and torchered endlessely for little tiny mistakes get jak 2. this game is one of the most porly executed sad unplayable and frustrating games ive ever played. yeah the cut scenes are funny but thats about all the praize i can give this game. it looks like naughty dog wanted to have its game vigoursly presented to grend theft auto fans. this game is no more than a rehash of grend theft auto with jak and daxter inside it. and it most definetly would not appeal to fans of the first. or fans looking for a fun enjoyable expereince without having there heads clobbered off for mistakes. only good for hardcore gamers and drunks. otherwise rent it.
What happened to Jak?

I bought this game for my daughter's 7th birthday, because we had both enjoyed playing Jak & Daxter together. I was in for a rather unpleasant surprise.
The first game was very funny and cool, very different. Daxter was a little wise guy, and Jak the silent type. There was no offensive language, no excessive violence. Jak II was much different.
It is rated T for Teen, but it really IMO deserves an M rating because of the offensive language and violence. (In the first few minutes of the introduction, we hear the words "Remind me not to get you p**sed off!" from cute little Daxter!)
My daughter and I did not play it for long, because it was too difficult; and also, the scenery was too dark and depressing.
I suppose Naughty Dog was trying to appeal to an older audience, but what they did was ruin a good idea. I probably won't be getting any more of the Jak products after this.
Jak 2 is not a 1 star game!!!

Iknow some people that said that Jak 2 is too hard...well its not! I mean if you just try you'll beat the game easily. Oh yeah sure some parts of the game is challenging but that's the fun of it! For example:if you can't get past the 1st level, then you must be a retard or your not trying!!! Honestly! HTF do you not beat the 1st level!? Anyway, those frigin kangaroos....

My 10-year-old loved Jak & Daxter. This sequel has been a big disappointment. It's rated T instead of E and he's uncomfortable with the dark, more sinister story line, which includes imprisonment and torture. Read up on this before buying for younger gamers.
good idea to rent before you buy

For anyone who has played the original Jak and Daxter know that Jak II is a very different game. It's MUCH darker and much harder too. A reviewer in a game mag reported that 'Jak II requires excellence in players'. If you want a game that you can play and enjoy while you're playing it, get Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando. If you want a game that will easily frustrate you, get Jak II. Both are rated 'T', but as far as I'm concerned Jak II has it for a more logical reason w/it's realistic guns and bad language compared to Ratchets cartoon-type guns and no bad language. I may try Jak II, but I'm definately buying Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando! Maybe one day gaming companies will realize that not all gamers like games like GTA!

I really enjoyed Jak and Daxter for its simple platform gameplay but decently hard missions. This game was very different from that game and I was glad. One of the things that drew me to this game was how I heard that it was so hard and I wanted a challenge. During the course of the game there were maybe 5-6 missions that I wanted to throw the controller through the screen but that is what makes Jak II so fun, when you finally beat those parts you are filled with pride. While the first one was very light and kid oriented this one is darker and has a few curse words but nothing that they don't say on television so your kids can play it but if you don't like them hearing the a word and h word don't let them play it. This game borrows heavily from the Grand Theft Auto series since the whole game is played in this mode; drive to the boss and get the mission, go to the mission and complete it, go back to the boss to get a new one. There are also places around the city to play mini-games. One thing that drove me (and from reading a lot of reviews) was the traffic in the city and the controls of the cars. It left little room for error when driving all the way across the city on timed missions, but once again the difficulty was part of the fun for me. If you get frustrated easily then you probably don't want to play this game but if you are looking for a decently challenging game then this is one for you.
PATIENCE!!!!

Alright everyone...in my opinion...this has to be one of the best platformers I have ever played. This game has everything!!!and i mean everything from racing to memory challenges. Basically this game is sort of like GTA where you go to these places to get missions but the missions are different and very clever. One of the best missions is when you have to use your hoverboard to prevent these bombs from exploding...man my palms were clammy and controller was wet after I played that mission. Now I agree with everyone that this game is difficult...but it's not impossible; it just takes some patience; man, with even the frustrating ones like the bomb/hoverboard mission, they are so much fun and entertaining; there is this one mission however that was not necessary at all and not that interesting. it's when you have to run away from millions of these police thingys while there are these gun radars that shoot at you, that one was boarder line impossible, but the more i tried it the more strategies you think of...I cannot tell you enough how strongly I encourage you to get this game...it gets an A+++!!!Oh yeah, by the way...for all you guyz saying these things about how this videogame has bad words...come on you guys have a little humor and oh yeah check the label...it's a teen rating!!!So if you're one of those parents worried about that kind of stuff, check the label, it even gives you the reason why it got a teen label; i don't know wha the big deal is anyway; even PG rated movies have bad words and nobody seems to care about it...you all seriously need to take a chill pill!!

Jak and Daxter was a great game, and then Sony made Jak II. Jak II is much different from Jak and Daxter. It's frustatring. For instance, when you try to beat the clock to the racing stadium. The game is fun with stealing cars, shooting, doing tasks, but is hard. Better rent it before u buy it
The hardest game ever

I loved the first Jak so I was excited that this one was coming out, but after TRYING to play the game, I found this to be one of the hardest games I have ever played. It takes hours to beat one mission, only to go onto another impossible mission. I was going to buy this game for my 10 year old niece, who loved the first one, but after playing it myself, she would never get anywhere on it. I'm probably not the best game player in the world, but I'm fairly decent and I have never gotten so frustrated with a game that I NEVER want to play it again, until this game. IF YOU GET FRUSTRATED EASILY WITH A GAME, DON'T BUY THIS ONE!!!
