Difficult, a little flawed, but a fantastic game in the end.

Before I say anything else, please understand that Jak II is HARD. The original game is like taking candy from a baby compared to this game. When I bought Jak II, I didn't expect it to be as difficult as it is, and therefore I became a lot more frustrated with certain missions than I would have been had I known of the high difficulty.

That being said, Jak II is a fantastic game. It combines platformer, action and racing elements with next to no flaws. The plot is fantastic, throwing in several twists to keep you going through the game. Many elements of Grand Theft Auto have been thrown into the mix, the most obvious is the style of obtaining missions. Haven City is large and you will get missions from several people scattered across the city. Weapons have been thrown in as well, which adds quite a nice action element to the game and will keep you on your toes throughout the missions you undertake while on foot. A few racing and flying missions like those found in the original Jak & Daxter are here as well.

As far as flaws are concerned, Jak II does have its share. While the majority of the missions are difficult, some of them are a little too easy. Flying around the city is a real pain at times, for there are really no landmarks that will help you find your way, so you'll be looking at the mini-map most of the time. Unfortunately, if you don't glance at the screen once in a while, you'll hit one of the many--MANY--other flying ships in the sky (or, if you're skimming across the ground, one of the many pedestrians on the streets). Doing so will either cause you to take damage or alert the guards to your presence which can become quite an annoyance at times. And did I mention that the ships drive like boats? Ugh.

Jak II also seems to have no vsync whatsoever. Vsync is an option most developers use in their games to keep the framerate consistent with the refresh rate of the television or monitor. When vsync is not enabled, the monitor or TV screen may try to play "catch up" with the picture the PS2 is sending it, producing what can best be described as a visual effect that looks like a large image loading in a web browser on a slow connection.

Aside from those two flaws in the game design, Jak II is great game and any fan of the original game and looking to reveal more of the Jak & Daxter storyline should absolutely pick this one up. Just remember that Jak II is hard, or you might be disappointed.

I bought this game yesterday.

Graphics 10/10
The graphics are very smooth and there isn't any choppy frame rate. And another amazing thing is that there are no loading times, even with these amazing graphics.

Sound 9/10
Solid sound, and great music that fits the game perfectly. A little repetitive

Gameplay 10/10
The targeting system usually consists of laser sight which is pretty good. Also with GTA out they used the same idea of stealing cars in this case hover cars. There are many missions you won't be able to put the control down. I played into the early morning.

Value 10/10
The game is now only 20 BUCKS and no wonder it's a greatest hit.

Also if you like Ratchet and Clank you'll like this game to, and vice versa.

BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jak 2 is the best game ever! Aside from the characters, the story and plot is completely different from the first Jak(for the better). This isn't one of those games that is so easy and short you beat it in 2 hours; this is the kind of game that has many, many missions but doesn't get boring and isn't to difficult. The missions are all different even if they're in the same place every now and then. Most missions will take place outside of the city. When you're in the city you'll be going to a place to recieve a reward or get a new mission.
Here is a list of the best things in/about this game.
1. While in the city you can take any zoomer that is being driven or just take a parked one.
2. In the city there is a police force called the krimzon guard. If you do something to make an officer mad the city goes on high alert and all the guards start chasing you and shooting at you.
3. Throughout the game you get 4 rad guns.
4. The plot is realistic and thickens as time goes on.
5. In the city you have a map with the icons of your destinations on it so you won't get lost.
6. In the begining of the story Jak is experimented on with dark eco enabling him to transform into Dark Jak.
GET THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forget the first one and...

...get this one. This game rocks. The Precursor Legasy would score an generous 0.5 from me while THIS ONE gets 10! Jak packs his bags and says goodbye to the boredom of Sandover Village and enters the glamourus Haven City. Tons of locations and about 5 bosses. The first one had... 3. So what? This one might be an continuation from J&D:The Precursor Legasy but like... So what? The first one sucked. And for your reading pleasure, I am going to SPOIL THE END FOR YOU! MWUHUHUHHAHAHA!!!

-WARNING: SPOILER ALERT!!!-
At the beginning of JakII: Renegade, you meet an old man namer... err... Kor. Remember that creature from the RiftGate? That was KOR! Kor is also the final boss in the game and he is the leader of the Metal Heads that Baron Praxis talks to before you confront him for the first time.
-SPOILER ENDED-

Here is a rundown on this games features:

Pros.
Ace weaponry.
Play as both Jak and Daxter.
Really good graphics.
Great music.
Cool SFX.
Terrific voice acting.
Jak SPEAKS!
Unlike the first one, there is HUMOR. Haw haw...
Lots of colorful characters you will meet.
About 5 bosses.
Tons of new locaitions.
Most of the missions are FUN!
GTA-ish missions.
No fishing level. YAY!

Cons:
Sometimes too hard.
You can only play as Daxter on 1 level.
Repeative enemies.
Only 4 guns. (Why, Naughty Dog? WHY?)

Here is a rundown on some of my favourite levels:
Haven City
Pumping Station
Dead Town
Strip Mine
Haven Stadium

Here are a couple of secrets:
Look for Precursor Orbs. They are now rare artifacs and you get CHEATS *cash register sound* for 'em.
Look for a Ratchet & Clank2: Going Commando poster somewhere. Looks like Naugthy Dog repaid Insomniac Games the favour of splashing an JakII poster on Megapolis and Damosel in Ratchet2.

Graphics: 10
Sound: 9.5
Gameplay: 8.6
Replay Value: 9.5
Overall: 9.9

Final Verdict:
Just buy it now. Nuff said.

Alot different than the first.....

Jak 2 maybe disapointing for people hoping its like the first. The game has a completely different feel than Jak and Daxter. It isn't for the whole family. Its too mature and frustrating for kids up to about 12. In this game your in a futuristic city and you get a gun. With that being said the graphics are incredible, the gameplay is still good, and the story is really good. Playing a second time definetly wont be as fun and exciting as the first time. So if you were only wanting to get this game because you thought it be great for the whole family or think its just like the first,......... you might want to rent this one first. Besides that I totally recommend Jak 2. : )

breathtaking game

this is one of the most fun games ever made. it picks up where the first one left off. after going trough an icosphere jak and daxter land in a city. jak is then arrested sent to a torchure room and sits there for 2 years until daxter rescues him. the city you go to is dark more serious than the first. anyone who thought the first was too childish should definitely get this. the game is mature and dark. its cool you can steal veichles like gta at any time by simply pressing the triangle button. you get also beat up pedestrians on the ground. but be careful beat up one infront of the red troopers and it will sent off an alarm. jak can also get sweet guns. the scatter gun the blaster the vulcan fury and the peacemaker. later in the game you get a wicked hoverboard. and you candrive that thing aroundthe city it is quite a blast to use. another thing underrated mech levels the mech suit levels were suprizingly fun. hop in that machine and destroy the metalheads the perenial bad guys in the game. theres skating rounds awesome fun missions. you get unlimited freedom get to do sweet things all the time. its fun you should get the game. im about 60 percent trough it and i still havent thrown the controller down in frustration. bottom line is this game is a blast an apseloute ride from begineing to end. jak can talk too hes awesome i mean that guy is so hip and with it. this game is great and it should get the attetionit deserves. oh and by the way this game dosent have bad graphics you just gotta play it like 2o percent or more trough. this game has way better graphics thanthe original game.it just dosent look good at first because the first place youreat is a dirty city. but youll soon travel to forests vistas oceans beaches caves beautifal outdoor and indoor envirorements. just get this game you wont be disappointed. i thought rachet and clank going commando was one of the best. but this game blows rachet and clank going commando or just about any other action game clean out of the water. itsa great title get it and then wait for jak 3 to come out.

After playing Jak and Daxter, I could barely wait for this game. I pre-ordered it, and got it almost as soon as it got out. It far surpassed my expectations, as a hardcore video gamer.
This game is amazing. I have now beaten it over 4 times. Its absolutely addictive. For anybody who owns a system and plays games like Jak and Daxter, this game, although one of the hardest out there, presents a prime gaming experience. I do not suggest buying this game as a parent of smaller children, or if you are not willing to put in hours over some missions. Some of the missions are extremely difficult, such as the tank mission, and recovering the piece of Mar's symbol from the slums. It took me over an hour for each, and yes I got frustrated. But the difficulty justs adds another angle to Jak 2.
The world is absolutely huge, covering many zones. The new ability to steal hovercrafts also adds a fun aspect to this game. In Jak and Daxter, I specifically loved the zones on the bikes, and now you can do it all the time, and even race on them. The gameplay and weapons are also amazing. The fact that you can get 4 different guns, all for different circumstances provides fun and in some cases, difficulty. The storyline also works perfectly, unlike some sequels. I found myself, every single time I played it, willing it to continue.
Some people complain that this game is too long, but I believe that provides a prime gaming experience, (such as the final fantasy games).
The graphics of this game are great, and some of the secrets provide amusement, such as big headed jak.
This game, you should be warned, is addictive once you get into it. I played 16 hours in one day. It is incredibly fun.
I suggest this game for any gamer looking for a challenge.

excellent game purchase it

this is a great game. it begins where the first left off. jak and daxter accidentily flow trough a precursor ring. land in a futurustic metropolis. and are flushed out by crimson gaurds. daxter escapes. but his freind jak is arrested. upon going to jail. jak is expereiminted on with dark eco. when daxter finally rescues him jak is diffrent. he is angry with the world. furthermore the game lets you utilize some button combos to go trough the prizon. as soon as youre out. you come across that big city resembling grand theft auto. from there you steal cars complete objectives and veiw more of the story. one thing thats easy to see early on in jak 2 is its superb production values. the graphics are stunning. the city has a lot of personality. the story is compelling. and the voiceacting is very top notch. you will be sscrambling across the city to get to the location of your next mission. many missions are very fun and inventive. some require to you to brake pipes in a sewr or test your skill solving puzzles. while others relie on pure action. run away from a firing tank. murder somebody. save pedestrians before theyre killed by gaurds. while the action is extremely solid. the main draw of jak ii. would have to be the amazing interaction between you and the characthers. and the way the story goes along. i never expected in a million years story twists could be this exciting. im not even a fan of storylines. but youll be suprized what youll see in this game. make sure that before you play this game. realize its story is going to take several hours of your sleeptime away from you. another reason why the game is so fun to play is because its perfect controls. youll never have to fight them. ill tell you with phemoniaminal graphics. a sleeploss worthy storyline. excellent voiceacting. a surprizing vareity of gameplay. wildly fun missions. and a control system that can be operated effortlessely. this game is well worth the purchase price. this is not a grand theft auto rip off. trust me when i say this is one of the finest most engrossing and captavating games ive ever had the pleasure of playing. even if youre not into the series. give jak 2 a try. you might come away very surprized.

Awesome, just as good if not better than the first

This is really one of the most awesome games I've played in my whole life. A lot of you guys say that it's "not quite suited for the pre-teen set," but I'm a pre-teen and I think this is a great game. In this one, you get warped to a new area, infused with dark eco powers, and after two years in prison, Daxter finally rescues you. But this isn't the old Jak...he's much different...
Now Jak talks and has a huge attitude. He's out for revenge against the baron, and he's not letting down easy.

Now the "hub world," Haven City is extremely big! There's lots of places for you to explore, and now the game tells you exactly where to go, so there's no flying off track. You can carjack like any vehicle out there, but just make sure the cops don't catch you.

A lot of reviewers talk about the difficulty of the tank level. I'm 10 and I beat it in about 8 tries! Beat that.

All in all, Jak II is a terriffic game, but there is a little swearing in it, so if you're not sure, rent it. But to everyone else, I recommend you run to the store and buy it right now.

This game just blew my mind away! As soon AS I started playing it I Realized all the different characters and the more adult themed storyline. I loved it, For the first time JAK Talks. Although one thing dissapoints me, its rated T so not all Kids can experince the pleasures of this game. I really liked the new gun play, and the fact that you can drive. Naughty dog really needed another good game for ps2 besides The first Jak And Daxter game, seein in all the 4th crash bandiccot for PS2.....!
