This game is like gold mine!!!!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

Everybody knows about the Pokemon games of Red/Blue and Yellow for the GameBoy and the Pokemon cartoon show, right? In these newest games of Pokemon Gold/Silver, you will have a whole new adventure in the region of Johto!! You get to do the same things in Red/Blue/Yellow like catch wild Pokemon, buy items from Pokemon Markets and heal at Pokemon Center and many more, but there are lots of new features in these latest games for the
GameBoy Color!

1. There are over 100 new Pokemon in Gold/Silver, which adds up to 251! Of course, that doesn't mean you can find any old Pokemon like Pidgey, Rattata, Caterpie and Pikachu! You will get to meet a lot of new Pokemon, and even some familiar ones from the TV shows and the movies, like Ho-Oh, Lugia, Marill, Snubble, Togepi and Elekid! Also, there is even a new season for the Pokemon TV show where you will see all the Pokemon from Gold and Silver, which is called ''Pokemon: The Johto Journeys''. More on this new cartoon series later on!

2. You no longer have to be tired to scroll through a list of many kinds of items---You now have a backpack! The backpack has four different pockets, where four kinds of items you collect are stored! They include ''Items'', ''KeyItems'', ''Balls''
and ''TMs/HMs''. You can also let your Pokemon hold items!

3. You now have a special device called PokeGear which acts like a celluar phone of some kind! You can even upgrade it by collecting a Map Card which allows it to show you the map and a Radio Card which allows you to listen to special radio broadcasts! Also, Pokemon Trainers now have their own names!

4. Pokemon now come in genders of Male and Female! This serves as a purpose for Breeding, a new special feature in the game! You can breed Pokemon in the Daycare Center in Route 34, a place near Goldenrod City. To breed Pokemon, give the old man a male Pokemon and the old lady a female Pokemon. Come back later to find out that your Pokemon has hatched an egg! Your Pokemon will only hatch eggs if they have the same status icons and are given to the right breeders, and also if both are the opposite genders.

5. Before you start the game, you can set the clock for the game! The time will match the exact time in your clock if you set the right time. So if it's night in the real world, it would be night in the game too! At night, it is a bit dark and you can find many Pokemon you can never find in the daytime such as a new owl Pokemon called Hoothoot (Illusion Confusion)!

6. Other than new Pokemon, there are also new TMs/HMs and new moves too! In the game, you will sometimes encounter whirlpools and waterfalls which you can get past by using HM06-Whirlpool (destroys whirlpools) and HM07-Waterfall (allows you to surf up waterfalls). Cool, huh?

7. You will meet many new and old faces such as Prof. Elm (The Professor of Johto, like Prof. Oak is the Professor of Kanto. Prof. Elm gives you three starter Pokemon---the cute Fire Type Pokemon Cyndaquil (Worth a choice, as it is strong against the first gym and is my favorite!), the naughty Water-Type Pokemon Totodile (Strong but not too cool) and lastly, the adorable Grass type Pokemon, Chikorita, who is not worth a choice at all but can learn Flash and Cut!), Prof. Oak, Ash (That's right, you do get to battle Ash in the game, but his name in the game is Red!), Gary (Named Blue in the game and is also the Leader of Viridian City), Mr. Pokemon, Lance, Brock and Misty! Team Rocket even makes an appeareance in Johto, but not Jessie, James and Meowth from the cartoon!

8. Your rival is no longer Gary, but a boy with long red hair! Like Gary, he chooses a Pokemon stronger than yours. If you choose Cyndaquil, he will choose a Totodile, because Water type Pokemon are strong against Fire! Like Gary, he appears through the whole game, with many new strong Pokemon each time you battle him.

9. During the game, you might notice strange looking trees. If you talk to one of them, you will recieve a Berry! Like Potions, Berries can be used to give Pokemon their HP back too!

10. Sometimes in Berry trees, you might find Apricons (Acorns). Each acorn comes in different colors, and if you give an acorn of one color to Kurt (The man in Azalea Town who gives you the Lure Ball after you defeat Team Rocket), he will turn it into a special PokeBall! Since it will take him some time to make the PokeBall, do something else and come back later on to recieve a whole new PokeBall!

11. Lastly, The title screen and the intro is cute! The Gengar vs. Nidorino/Jigglypuff battle intro in Red/Blue is boring! I shall give that intro a 3/5! The Pokemon Yellow intro is more fun and longer, so it rates a 4/5! But, the intro is Pokemon Gold/Silver is totally the best of them all, because it features many Pokemon, not a boring Pokemon battle and it even has great music!

Being a fan of Pokemon, I'm so grateful to Game Freak for creating such a cool and funny game! I only wish the adventures in Johto were much more longer, but that takes the limit! Anyways, this game is simply the best! I also love Cyndaquil (How cute! I never knew Nintendo could make such a cute Pokemon!!!) and Hoppip too, because it looks so cute too and it even looks like my sister! Anybody who says this game sucks is a total idiot, as he has no grace to say bad words to such a wonderful game! Remember to buy it, not rent it! It's like real gold!

100 new pokemon can't be wrong

Despite its kiddy apperance, cute characters, and other features, this game is absolutely wonderful. The Pokemon RPG's have always been great games, and Gold and Silver are even better. There's very few games that offer you as many features as Pokemon does. With 250 Pokemon to catch, train, and evolve, this game can keep you engrossed for hours upon hours. Not to mention the time system is a unique feature. Where you can catch a Pidgey at night, you may be able to only catch a Hoot Hoot at night. With all the great features on this game, you should not pass it up. Do not by any means judge this game by its appearance. Buy this game, you will not regret it at all.

a great fun game except for the save problem. When u by these games used the cartridges have a limited amount or no save memory at all because of the they were made a long time back. i got this game used off of amazon but my files would not save. i called eb games about it and they said that the save memory for these gameboy games lasts about six or 7 years.he suggested i keep my gameboy on till i beat it which kinda sux. just giving u a heads up . i only have one gameboy and wanted to play other games to. this might also affect my gameboy.

This game is just great, awesome, fantastic, and exciting. When you get it, you'll never stop playing it. It's a great adventure for old or new players. Collecting all these new Pokemon and going through towns and cities, farms and lakes, caves and forests youve never seen before. The game even gets better after you defeat the Elite 5, you go to Kanto and meet Gary and get the old badges in Blue, Red, and Yellow Versions. Many things have changed in Kanto too. Trust me, get the game.

HISTORY>> As many of you know Pokemon Gold and Silver became extrmemly popular even beofre its known release in Japan! It started w/ rumors in Japna and grew from there to our local webmasters hands, ast many places .... And from there its all in the future. For many years a multitute years everybody was trying to get in touch with anybody from Japan for any kind of screenshots or upto date info on Pokemon Gold & Silver. Connects were made and stories were made. Finally It was released in Japan... The whole system got even more complicated as now Japan Rom artist started to recreate copies of of the game for Japan and American use! Now the facts were straight and everything was gathered, or was it... For now It is to enter America!

Now you know the history and heres the facts! Pokemon Gold and Silver are HUGE Upgrades from the regualr Pokemon Blue, Red, adn Yellow. Now there is over 100 brand new Pokemon, for you to train battle and Capture! These are included with new evolved Forms of older Pokemon and whole new branches of Pokemon! There are over 200 new skills and Techniques your brand new Pokemon can learn, and new items, such as the 5 in map/clock/calendar/cell phone/radio. Alos the Pokedex is now upgraded to these new Pokemon + u can rearrange your Pokedex 3 different ways! Alphabetical, Evelotion Stages, and Numbers, and theres a Slowpoke to help guide you in your Pokedex! Now there is even a brand new world Johto, and the old world which are combined by the Indigo Plateu! Theres even a brand new pokemon blocking the road like Snorlax! Now you can breed certain Pokemon to get baby pokemon! Theres a Tram Station as well. And as many know there is a realtime clock, so that way youll neve rhave to look at your regualr clock late at night when your trying to become a master, at 2 am! The only Downfall I find is that you cant transfer and pokemon form Gold and Silver to Red/Blue/Yellow. Well I should have expected this actaully. =) And lastly there are hundreds of new iems and attachable items that u can put on your pokemon! Like theres nuts that are things like Revive nut, potion nut, and so on, and letters!.

Nintendo did a great job with Gold and Silver! They were well worth the wait! From other reviews, you can see how it's played so I don't need to go into that. The graphics are excellent! One of the best things I've found is that it shows how close your pokemon is to getting to the next level. All in all, well worth the money! WHERE'S POKEMON GREEN??? *Gimme*!!

PokéMon Gold

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 4

Having thought that the first PokéMon games were of a mixed quality, a great idea let down by very poor execution. Problems plaguing the first game ranged from a complete lack of story or plot to the natty interface. The thing that really kept the first games afloat was the amazing fact that you could, from a pool of 150, assemble a team of PokéMon with different attacks and so on. This meant that it would be rare to meet someone with the exact same PokéMon and the exact same attacks.

PokéMon Gold has kept this ethos alive, adding 100 PokéMon and many new attacks, and there some real good new attacks and PokéMon. In many cases sequels to games concentrate on quantity, i.e. more characters/monsters, more guns/attacks more buildings more troops and so on. PokéMon Gold handily avoids this oft visited pitfall by adding new gameplay elements and modifying others. For example their is now day and night, several new ways to evolve PokéMon and the PokéGear, a handy device that incorporates a map, a radio, a clock and a phone. The clock is used to keeep time and is probably the least useful of the features. The radio is required to beat the game completely and the the phone is not overly useful. The map will be used most, to see where you and certain PokéMon are.

Several elements of the game have been improved. The PokéMons stat screen is now divided into a 2 parts, a normal stats screen where the PokéMons type, dimensions, gender (another new feature), status, attributes and every other peice of information related to that PokéMon can be viewed, and a moves screen where the power of the PokéMons attacks are shown as well as a small description of that attack. The interface is also much more streamlined. The PokéDex can be viewed in four different modes and descriptions are given in a small dialogue box of the items that you are carrying. Oh yeah! There are also new items such as new PokéBalls and other items. The final improvement in the interface is the ability to bypass the menu system and access a certain item simply by going to the item on the menu and selecting it for that. The item is then activated by using the select button.

Technical improvements are also present with Gold havinng better graphics and sound than the original. The music is of a good quality and many of the attack animations have been improved. There are so many new features in Gold that it would be literally impossible to describe them in the thousand words that Amazon allows, so I will leave with my final scores

Grapics:-92% Mmmm... Much improved

Sound:-93% Mmmm... Music

Gameplay:-95% Mmmm... Millions of new features Something or Other:-94% Mmmm... Many Many hours of play

Overall:-95% Mmmm... My third favourite game ever
