If you love Star Wars stay away.....
It used to be a great game with lots of SW content but SOE have done their usual thing of "it's not broken so we'll fix it"
There is no content for players after a few days playing time, SOE promise to fix but never deliver.
The life has gone from the game.
Lots of folk are currently leaving this remnant of a game.
see the FORUMs on the main SWG site.
Game is ruined..stay away!

First off...dont believe these 5 star posters here.
Its funny how they say the following
1 - It's a vocal minority - WRONG - look at the swg forums and other game review sites...there are thousands of angry people
2 - It's just the "Vets" - WRONG - yes vet Jedi got screwed in the sence that all their work was for not...but simply put this new game style sucks and the "iconic" professions are boring.
3 - The new Game is MORE "Star Warsy" - WRONG - there is no new content for anyone past beginner. There is nothing "star warsy" about spazzing out and clicking a mouse. There is nothing "star warsy" about the new targeting system. Face it...you are stuck killing the same old crap as before. First Rills, then Banthas, then squills, then Pikets and quenkers.
Here is my idea about the NGE
1 - Its full of bugs. They are everywhere..and I mean everywhere.
Just a random sample - can't master pilot, can't see pilot XP, legacy quests are bugged, Jedi quests are bugged, Mustafar is bugged, snare specials are bugged...and so on and so on. Want to learn more? Go to the swg forums
2 - Targeting sucks...alot. Perhaps the Devs will change it. In fact Smeadley wrote a forum post acknowledging this to be 1 of 2 major problems. Want to learn more? Look up Smed's posts in the forums...see 1000s of responses from the vocal minority hating the NGE
3 - Professions are borked nor balanced. Medic is god..and Jedi sucks and all ranged profs are just about the same. Ever play World of Warcraft? Blizzard gives you "talent points" starting at level 10. What about SWG? NOPERS...That means every Jedi is identical to every other Jedi....oh and according to the developer Lord-pall...Commandos get hosed again!!! As now everyone gets a flamethrower! but don't count on 1 now...as all commando weapons are disabled
Summary - This game might work if they fix the crap they pushed at us..but for the moment, it's horrid..but again...if you want to learn more...go to [...]
Sony Online Entertainment has extremely poor quality

Sony Online Entertainment has extremely poor quality.
It is very unfortunate because I am a fan a Star Wars since I first saw the movie in the 1970's.
Sony ONline Entertainment is selling a 3 year Beta. The game is extremely unbalanced. Two Reasons Why. Firslty, There is only one profession that can succeed in Player versus Enemy and Player versus Player. That is the Jedi Profession. Secondly, no new players can ever reach the title of "Elder" Jedi. Elder Jedi have 5% better defense and 5% better offense than any new Jedi can ever reach. So to Summarazie the unbalance issue; only Jedi can PvP and PvE at the best level. They can out heal the healing class, they can run away from every class, they can go invisible and they can slow the movement of all the other classes.
The other areas of extremely poor quality are the almost complete rejection of the game dynamic changes Sony Has made. Sony tried to make a Frame Per Second Game. This means you must have the cursor over your target to use an action. But it is not it is a hybrid. Non Player Characters can shoot through walls and floors. There is no skill in evading. The other major problem is that the action specials frequently fail. For example if you try to heal. Your screen will show the action as working, but the server may not register the action. Since the server does not heal you, you end up with a timer coolddown in which you can not heal again. This famous bug has been around since Nov 15th.
The final major issue is rubberbanding. Frequently, if you are traveling you will warp back,it is repeatable. It happens in comabt when you are evading. So you will run away, and end up in the middle of the enemies.
As a Final Summary. As a New Player You can never equal and Elder Jedi. The simple command of action does not work, Movement is sporadic.
There are numerous other major problems with the game. Just do a trial download and read the forums. I 100% do not recomend a new player invest their time to be a forever second class. This failed project of Sony's will one day be studied in University of how not to manage an online game.
Not worth it.

I have some friends that played this in the past that said they liked it. I guess they made a major change to the game because it is terrible. When I finally got on the planet I hardly saw anyone else, and the ones I talked to all said that they are quitting. Doesn't sound like a smart move to buy this. I would buy Battlefront II or even Knights of the Old Republic II instead.
It would be good but

Ok I loved this game at one time. I played before the combat upgrade. And Well just got back into it again. and Well as I got back in and right before I hit my highest level SOE did it again they changed it! Yeah the Jedi and bounty hunters can do new things and than guess what they changed it again. I think if SOE tried to stop being like WOW and Everquest they might have something good here. But until they stop changing game play and stop forcing people to do things they don't want to do, they are just going to keep messing up a great game. But hey even Lucas changes his movies all the time so the fan boys should be used to changes they don't like right?
Steer Clear!

Chances are what you buy will not be what you play online in a few months. This game has been completely rehashed every few months. Items and Achievments made are regularly wiped - converted poorly or not converted and useless. Lag and warping makes the combat unplayable. I love Star Wars, sadly this is not it.

I realize that alot of the veterans are annoyed with the changes. But the problem here is that they have allowed that to cloud thier judgment and are not actually PLAYING the new game which while it has some bugs and anoying things, is overall what a star wras game shoudl feel like. I am personally very much enjoying it and would like to go over a few things about it.
classes: the new classes are well defined now. its no more guesswork. bascially just pick what you want to be and follow a content path through it. right now it goes to level 30 but promises have been that It will go all the way to the end.
combat: the combat its more twichbased and kinetic feeling. You aim the gun, You pull the trigger. New specials in the game like orbital bombardment, smoke bomb to disapear, area rez, area heals, calling in a "pet" NPC to help you fight really add flavor in combat. A good group will have an officer, a medic and a spy at leats with a smuggler, bh or jedi for damage dealing and tanking.
loot: new loot is considerbly better, with clothing and loot items that match the mob you looted them from. If you kill a lvl 40 elite storm trooper you will loot the proper items, like a backpack thats lvl 40 with skill mods that match your level. or armor or skill and health buffs. the new loot is fantastic.
quests: the new quests, not couting mustafar, are pretty darn good, i played thru all of them just to get the story.
Bottom line, if your a vet you may not like the changes because most people hate change. however if oyur a new player you will love this, its the star wars game you have been wating for.

i've been playing MMOs for 10 years and i played star wars galaxies for 2 and a half of those. then the NGE came and removed everything that was interesting and unique about this game. now its just like 90% of any other MMO out there. level grind and kill loot repeat, when it used to be so much more. dont waste your time, you could have all of your hard work wiped out and rendered useless too. they completely removed 2 of my characters professions and didnt convert any of their stuff. they have no idea what they want to even do with this game anymore and they change direction everytime the wind blows. worst dev team i have ever seen in any game in my life, a real disapointment
Waste of money

The only thing good about this game was selling my jedi account for 2k+ before the CU downgrade.

First the good:
For the first 30 levels of your characters progression (to level 90), the new NGE version of the game follows a 'quest based' leveling format that is fun and engaging, but fairly linear for an MMORPG. After the first 30 levels, the game in it's NGE format is the same game everyone loved a few months ago, with the turn based combat style replaced by a point and click, real-time combat. Additionally, several professions that were loved by many people have been removed from the game so that 9 'Iconic' professions could be focused on.
The game covers an expansive, immersive world that has many quests and places to explore. If you can get into a good group( or even better a guild), this game is very enjoyable. If not, it is still fun but will take you much more time to advance.
The Bad:
This game is a virtual world, with material items to obtain, professions to master, friends to gain, and lots of land to explore. Some of the items and skills in this game take a considerable amount of time to obtain, and it is natural for people to develop an attachment to these items and skills because of the amount of time invested to obtain them. A lot of these items and skills were removed with little warning by the game's developers, and this left many people hurt and angry. You will see a lot of people exacting vengance by spreading word of how terrible this game is. On the contrary, it is a fun, engaging game.
However, the developers of this game will LIE TO YOUR FACE. They have intentionally broken professions to prepare them for a rebalance in two months, only to leave them broken for 2 years. They have promised new items and skills for professions with purchase of an expansion, then a day after the expansion is released and a lot of people bought it, they removed the professions from the game entirely. Some of the corporate practices have been downright shameful, if not illegal.
Buy this game if you want a fun, immersive Star Wars experience where you can live in the Star Wars universe.
Do not buy this game based on any promises or expectations of things to come. And remember that any items or skills you obtain are simply bits of digital code, that the developers can take from you at will.
