Only one thing to say, "Instant Travel Vehicle"

That is the whole reason I bought this kit, I wanted the Instant Travel Vehicle. Honestly, this game is not that spectacular. It does have it's moments, and the very fact that you really get to explore the Star Wars Universe speaks for itself, but it can be downright tedious to play. Hence the reason I wanted the Instant Travel Vehicle, which you can only get by buying this Starter Kit, it does help to speed up your progress.

Star Wars Galaxies -- a n00b jumping on board

Star Wars Galaxies has so much going on for it that it can become overwhelming for a new player. The introduction now has direct interaction with four signature SW characters, which is a HUGE step up from the last version of the game where you had to play for months before you could interact with them. Many of the complicated, user-unfriendly professions are gone, replaced with an easily understandable and attainable profession set. You can actually start out as a Jedi rather than wait weeks upon weeks to maybe get there.

The graphics are okay at best. Compared to other online community games, it feels behind the times with its jerky character movement.

Though there have been improvments from the archaic profession track, the game doesn't feel intuitive. You really have to dig in there and spend a lot of time asking questions from other players. Everyone knows that doing so automatically marks you as a n00b, placing yourself out there for internet ridicule and scorn. If you care about such things, you may want to join with a friend and play together. Otherwise, don't be thin-skinned and you'll eventually find a few good players who are willing to help you out.

While this is a vast improvement, it can still use some TLC from the developers.

I bought this kit JUST to get the instant travel vehicle. Been playing it over 3 years... I guess with anything, it gets old after a while. A new player would have fun with this for many months. I suppose, played in moderation, this game would be fun forever. Good graphics and nearly endless amount of things to do.

This is the Best MMO Ever

I played this game when it was first realeased and played for only a few months. At that time there were allot of bugs and the professions were'nt very fleshed out. I recently downloaded the trial version and found that I love this game now. I have a droid engineer and I have to say the crafting in this game is the best of any mmo. I also have a jedi that's very fun to play and the legacy quests are great. I think this game has gone through so many updates that has become one of the best MMO's out there.

Dont listen to the nerdy Vets

First off, regarding the vets, you do have a right to complain. SOE spit on the hours upon hours of your life spent doing things the hard way in the past with constant neglection of the game and with the erasing of classes and this new NGE. However, stop complaining because most of you ditched for WOW as soon as it came out; you were never Star Wars fans who happened to be into an MMo, you re simply MMO players looking for something new.

SOE knows that they need to compete with WOW because if they kept up theyre old ways, the entire playing community would be swallowed up by WOW as they still continued to undermine SWG's ability to grow with their constant whining on forums and on Amazon. This is the reason why i hadnt purchased the game up till this point.

The NGE changed all that. Before, i wouldnt get SWG because it seemed to generic, and WOW was a perfect alternative. SWG had the theme, WOW had everything else to perfection, EXCEPT combat. The NGE, along with the Jump to lightspeed expansion included in this product turned Combat in SWG's favor. Instead of nerdy turn based style fighting, later to become the WOW clone in the short lived CU, we get a Morrowind style action MMO. That was the deciding factor, and it will be for many people who look into the game, although there is no way it will grow now that the internet is so against the game. The action is unpoished but fun, the game laggy and buggy but incredibly immersive and Star Wars-like. I'd take it 10x over the amazingly smooth and kiddie "fan-ta-c" world of WOW any day.

Please don't pay attention to the other reviewers

Please, people looking at this game for the first time, don't be distracted by the few people that didn't like the new changes to the game. This game is an extremely fun FFSish adventure game. There is a ton of stuff you can do.. exotic locations to explore, even meet some people from the movies. You can choose one of 9 classes, which are: Spy, Bounty Hunter, Medic, Jedi, Commando, Officer, Entertainer and Trader. Politition and Pilot are both alpha classes. You can create your own city or guild, join the Rebels or Imperials (or just stay neutral), particpate in the Galactic Civil War. Also SWG has the best crafting system in any online game. There is something for everyone. Also the community is great.

Beats WoW by a looooong shot
- Grinding isn't horrible
- Doesn't take an hour to travel somewhere
- Community is better
- More things to participate in
- Player vs. Player combat is more enjoyable and more readily available

On a side note: I don't work for amazon or anything, I just really like this game and saw all the bad reviews.

If you enjoy Star Wars and MMORPGs - you'll love this game

I've been playing Star Wars Galaxies since it opened in June of 2003 and have not been able to put it down ever since. With three characters playing different professions from the Star Wars Universe I find the game fully immersive in everything the Star Wars francise has to offer. With the Jump to Lightspeed [Space], Rage of the Wookiees [Kashyyyk], and Trials of Obi-Wan [EP3 Planet of Mustafar] expansions you'll find plenty of excitement. If your ready for all that coupled with stunning graphics, a beautiful game, and a great community then this games for you... *****5 Stars SOE/LA*****

The other point of view from loyal players, such as myselft.

Okay, NGE, was a bad idea. But they, pretty much redeamed themselves with these Chapter publishes they have here. Now, the pvp is hotter than ever. When Restuss became a hot pvp city, my mouth dropped. Players I hadn't seen in a while came back. Everyone is really impressed with the intensity of some of the conflicts. The expertise is also a great add on. My Jedi, Tohee on Kauri, is very powerful for a toon I created just to learn how to play the nge game. There is so much you can do in this game. It is like I live a second life online. I cannot tell you how that helps me escape after a long day at work. I am so glad that it is not just a ground game either. Being Star Wars, the Jump to Lightspeed really appeals to me since I like games like Ace Combat 5 where you can fly around and pull g forces. The npcs now are smart and able to use special abilities just like players. The Emperor's Hand, that spawns in Restuss, is no joke. No one player can beat her trying to get her lightsaber schematic, which is the best in the game. You are doing this all at the same time watching out for players of the other faction who could show up at any moment to come and kill you. Sure, there are some annoying bugs, like the broken spawn point in Restuss, with all the Stormtroopers and Urban Assault Troopers quadruple spawned on top of each other. (which is usually an instant incapacitation, followed by a player that usually dbs (death blows) you. I love this game. And I will enjoy it more the additional chapters come out giving every profession the experitise system. The next thing they have to fix, is space is too calm from a pvp stand point unless you go to deep space or kessel which is usually hard to get to unless you are close to becoming a master pilot. These are all little things that are annoying but in the end don't really hurt the game.

Thank you.

Okay let me just say I played this game at launch when it was first released. It was so bad I quit and havent played it for nearly 2 years. I decided to give it a try with the new starter pack, after all it is only $20 and the first month is free.. what did I have to lose?

Well having played the firt 30 levels as a Bounty Hunter I feel at last the game is starting to live up to it's potential. I had a blast playing through the quest chain that you start with. The game places you at the start on a space station were you will stay for your first 10 levels or so. Then you are transported to tatooine were the quests continue. You will work for han solo, jabba and then decide weather to side with the Empire or rebellon.

The graphics and sound are very good and almost on par with newer games like wow and guild wars, overall there are still some lag isses and broken quests which is why I gave it a 4 instead of 5. Given a few updates this wll be one of the best on-line games out now.

In closing let me just say that the ppl that are giving this negative reviews are not reviewing the game as it is today but protesting over the fact that the old (terrible) game doesn't exist anymore. They are angry over the fact that ppl can take a Jadi or Bounty hunter to start instead of "earning" one. What they fail to see it that the game was not at all fun for most ppl and we have lives outside of on-line gaming so we can't dedicated 20 hours a day tobecome a Jedi in 6 months. That is just not fun and to me rather silly. So go try the game for a month and if you don't like it simply cancel your account. I'll bet you will stay...

After playing the game under much sufferance over the past few weeks I have grown accustom to the changes and suffice it to say, I like it - in fact i prefer the game to the pre-publish 25 issue.

The only downside is that you are forced to seek out groups rather than go it alone otherwise you die all the time.

The combination of being able to craft and fight is sorely missed in the NGE but maybe Sony will revise this notion for P26?

No more major changes those Sony, for heaven's sake!!!
