i work in game stores in the uk and this was just sent to my store ready for launch so i decided to try it out. and it is excellent! its a 1 player version of the mmo star wars galaxies! i dont play the online version but i did try it out for a month with a 14 day free trial about a year ago. this starter kit is the same as the online one but 10 times better graphics and lots more npcs to make up all the missing players. there are some npcs that sell items that in the mmo version can only be created by other palyers. also you get 5 charecters to play so you can creat items for yourslef if you wish and you get to try out most of the professions. the other cool new feature is the henchmen system, the same as in guild wars, you can hire people from cantinas to form a npc group to help you with difficult missions. i recomend this to all who love swg and role play!

most of the negative reviews are from cry babies

don't listen to the wimps that are pouting about swg being broken. if they'd have given it a chance and actually played it some before quitting they'd understand that it's still very fun.

Star Wars Galaxies

Ever since i was the age of 3, I've wanted to live in the Star Wars galaxy, even now at ten times that i still occasionally dream of flying my own Xwing. So when i found out Star Wars Galaxies was being developed, that's all i needed. By the time the game released i was deep into the Dev forums talking design and debates with various other Community members. Till that day that i first stepped in Star Wars.

Since then, its had its ups and down. I've had pure Star Wars moments, like defending a little known city of Dearic from Imperials, I've flown X-Wings to take down a Star Destroyer, I've battle for planets, or fought to protect my home city. I gone though foggy corridors on the Avatar station, and I've had epic confrontations with an army of battle droids.

I was in Star Wars, as i dreamed about when i was a kid, and i still am.

While i evolved in SWG, so did the game. We went from a game where you had to run every where to vehicles with multiple-passagers. Ive visited Tatoonie, and the forest moon of Endor. I've set foot on the wookiee's homeworld and braved the heat of Mustafar.

So what does this mean to someone looking to join the galaxy. Its Star Wars, and with the new NGE, even more so. From the start you feel like you've entered your own Star Wars story. Firefights, escaping an exploding space station, the well known sound of a certain golden droid. Pure Star Wars, its moments like that (and others I've briefly mentioned) that make the game enjoyable.

My guildmate said it best, so I'm going to quote him

--------------
-We have character models that allow us to make our avatars skinny or fat. Tall or short. We have some very good control over the facial customization. We can re-model ourselves with player assistance any time we like.

-We have player created clothing that is pretty good in terms of customization. We pick colors. We can layer them. We can mix armor and clothing. Cripes, we can even color armor.

-We have many player controlled structures that we can place in the environment to create player cities, if the terrain allows.

-We can freely decorate these houses up to their storage limits with nearly every item in the game save the very rare few that can only be in your top inventory or the bank. And these items can be moved in 3 dimensional space for stunning and creative decorations.

-Your spaceships can be decorated as well!

-Crafting of items follow an intricate but understandable system that uses an interconnected system of resources, subcomponents, and manufactured subcomponents. The hunting for resources with the right statistics and then mining them was sometimes better excitement than fighting for the crafter.

-The game elements like speeder bikes and starships are complete and total items of immersion, not to mention functional and fun. Remember your first ride on a swoop after having to run from Dearic to Tsarin time after time after time? Oh yeah. And you can customize those using paint kits too. Just like your droids. And your starships.

This list can go on and on. The point is that the SWG engine is top notch. Even after years of it being in service, the graphics are awesome and there are no other games out there that offer anywhere near the complete level of character customization and interface options.
---------------

That and so much more.

Veteran players are understandably upset, the game they knew was changed. But that doesn't mean the game isn't fun or enjoyable to new players (and in some cases older ones).

Don't let anyone else tell you what to think, try it for yourself.

Sour grapes

These bad reviews are generated by a sadly very vocal minority of old players that are unhappy with the changes.

I myself have been playing for a long time now and belive the change is exactly what this game needs to replace the old and bug ridden coding that caused so many problems of the past.

The new and fresh games engine will alow for bigger and better content. I look forward to the future of SWG.

Don't listen to the disgruntled players

This is a great game. Many players are upset that the game got pulled out from under them and radically changed. The bottom line is that the game needed something to spruce it up and the latest changes did just that. The game is more fun now than it had been in the past. I am far more addicted to it now than I had been before. This coming from a player that started on day 1.

A very nice game with a huge potential for future expansions

I have been playing this game for more then 2 years already and I still think this is a great game ! I agree that it has seen many changes already since it was first released but that is because the MMO public is changing. When the game was first released the game was all about grinding (doing the same thing over and over again to gain levels). Now with the last 2 expansion packs and the new recent updates they have made the game 100 times more user-friendly : lots of cool quests to do, worlds to explore and easier profession advancements (a clear road forward). It is true that there are still some minor bugs, but that is always the case when such a big update is done. Within a few weeks almost all bugs will be gone because the developers are working hard to get them out. Jedi has indeed become a starter profession, but it is only one of the 9 starter professions (like commando, officer, medic, bounty hunter, smuggler...) It is absolutely not true that 90% are Jedi, I see all kind of professions when I walk around in a city ! Lots of people enjoy being able to play another profession than Jedi because this is one of the few star wars games in which you actually can play another profession than jedi in the star wars world ! I for example like playing a stormtrooper. I sometimes even lead a whole squad of them against a rebel base ! This is the only game out there in which you can do this kind of stuff ! The latest update was intended to change the game in a way so that not only hardcore gamers would feel at home but that also gamers that can only play a couple of hours a day can have fun (like in World of warcraft or everquest 2 (a game made by the same company who made this star wars game)) I suggest you don't listen too much to the opinions of players who have quit this game and are now trying to destroy it just because they don't like the easier gameplay (less grinding) Just try it out (I think there is a free trial on the fileplanet website that you can download) and make your own opinion of the game. I will be playing this game forever because it is the best star wars game around and it gets better with every expansion pack !

still a good game

hello, this game is not as bad as the others are making out, they are upset that it has been changed since the times when it was played by them, it is still a great game and im sure any one would get many hours of enjoyment, for any ages or sex, it is all round still a good game.
espeicially for fans of starwars and mmorpg

Bitter old veterans want to destroy Star Wars

Thats why they are posting the bad reviews. Not because the game is bad, which it isnt. Its better. The veterans of swg have never been satisified, Just check any other previouse SWG games on amazon. The veterans love to complain.

This new game is 100% better. Its more exciting, quest driven, and content packed. it seemes like every other day SOE is putting more patches in with updates, fixes, and additiona items for people to have and play with. They are trying to turn this train wreak fo a game around, and I personally think they are doing the right thing!

ANYONE WHO LIKES STAR WARS SHOULD GET THIS GAME!

Dont listen to the nerdy Vets

First off, regarding the vets, you do have a right to complain. SOE spit on the hours upon hours of your life spent doing things the hard way in the past with constant neglection of the game and with the erasing of classes and this new NGE. However, stop complaining because most of you ditched for WOW as soon as it came out; you were never Star Wars fans who happened to be into an MMo, you re simply MMO players looking for something new.

SOE knows that they need to compete with WOW because if they kept up theyre old ways, the entire playing community would be swallowed up by WOW as they still continued to undermine SWG's ability to grow with their constant whining on forums and on Amazon. This is the reason why i hadnt purchased the game up till this point.

The NGE changed all that. Before, i wouldnt get SWG because it seemed to generic, and WOW was a perfect alternative. SWG had the theme, WOW had everything else to perfection, EXCEPT combat. The NGE, along with the Jump to lightspeed expansion included in this product turned Combat in SWG's favor. Instead of nerdy turn based style fighting, later to become the WOW clone in the short lived CU, we get a Morrowind style action MMO. That was the deciding factor, and it will be for many people who look into the game, although there is no way it will grow now that the internet is so against the game. The action is unpoished but fun, the game laggy and buggy but incredibly immersive and Star Wars-like. I'd take it 10x over the amazingly smooth and kiddie "fan-ta-c" world of WOW any day.

even more fun than before

Star wars galaxies has just gotten a whole lot more fun in my opinion.the game has progressed from a simple point and click into an involved gaming experience.where you once just sat back, the new combat and quests actually immerse you into the world by forcing you to be aware of your surroundings.you are now able to feel a part of your character by actually accomplishing quests instead of a faceless and boring grind of thoughtless creatures.sure there are bugs to work-same as any other game, but contrary to what some people are saying,i never had any sort of problem that could not be fixed and i always received assistance.i have played this game since pre cu and complainers will always be present since some feel the world revolves around them.this has become a game where people of all ages can start in and enjoy themselves.
