The negative reviews here are mainly from veteran players who are mad at SOE's changes to the game and are spamming this (and every other game review site) with negative comments in the hope of discouraging new players from buying the game and thus ruining the game for all.
As a veteran player myself since beta, the game has come a long way. Yes they have completely changed it from what it 'was' years ago, but new players will not know the difference. They will get a good Star Wars MMO that is graphically stunning and the sound quality is first rate. There is plenty of content to do (and contrary to what everyone else is saying, you can level up past 30... I have done it).
I run 5 accounts, 3 of them crafters and there is plenty crafting to do in the game. They have simplified some of the frustrating complexity from before and really made it more fun for the crafter. You can still plant your harvesters and survey for resources. You can still craft weapons, armor, structures, clothing, etc. This is not the 'end of the world' for crafters as the whiners would like you to believe. It is FUN.
I have not yet had any problems with in-game CSRs. All my requests have been answered to my liking and were even helpful on occasion. (You do get alot of 'We know about that issue, but sorry there is nothing we can do about that now'.) However, it's not like the CSRs are deliberately trying to ignore you like some posters have suggested.
Finally, I have seen reviews here from people who complained about having to go through a tutorial and starting out with low end gear at level 1 and working their way up. That's what an MMO is. It is not about instant gratification (you are not going to get a lightsaber to start as a Jedi and it will take some time and effort to get your 'first generation' training saber). If you want that kind of instant gratification, then indeed go play KOTOR or Star Wars Battlefront, etc. MMOs are not for you. But if you want a rich, dynamic world with lots to do and character progression, etc., this is the game you want.
I highly suggest you try the game out. If you like it, make your own decision and don't necessarily rely on the spamming of negative reviews by players who have had their 'Jedi' nerfed or their gameplay nerfed. It's not about a nerf for you, the new player, it's about your Star Wars experience from the start.

I started playing Star Wars Galaxies in July of 2003 (released at the end of June 2003) and I've hated it and loved it. In November 2005, Sony and Lucasarts overhauled the combat system. I personally became disenchanted when the previous combat upgrade was released this year - but the recent 'NGE' changes are awesome. I highly recommend anyone who has played this game start a new character and play the legacy quests!! The new legacy quests involve you in the Star Wars universe like they have never before!! Yes, Sony and Lucasarts made some mistakes, but the NGE is here and it makes the game so much fun!! The new combat and questing systems are so much fun and breathe new life into Star Wars!! Don't pay attention to the negative reviews that the petulant and vindictive "uber" grinding MMO whiners are posting. Instead, try Star Wars Galaxies, create a new character and judge for yourself how much fun it is!!
Regards,
Todd Harrison

Yeah I agree there. Blizzard's Quality Assurance Department is really good at squashing bugs, the game has so few bugs you'd think it was a console. But SWG is still better, despite having a few bugs. They're not severe, the game is very much playable.
You can't make player cities in WoW or deck out your house. Some of what people come up with in Star Wars Galaxies as far as their own customization and design goes, simply stunning, and amazing. You can run for government in SWG and have your own player city, like I said. Also the crafting in SWG is the best out of any game ever made, the design is just, brilliant! Crafting items in WoW is generic, and everyone else can do the same. In Star Wars Galaxies you can be competitive with higher quality goods and prices. You can place NPC shopkeepers in your house, and deck it out to look like a Safeway if you want. Its fully customizable! I see vendors wearing Imperial Uniforms selling stormtrooper armor to Imperials for example. Character customization is also way better. Everyone looks the same in WoW. In Star Wars Galaxies the characters look as diverse as their personalities. You can make your character look fat and bald and go to the cantina in your underwear and look totally ridiculous if you want to. If you have creativity and imagination, you're set! That's the thing, in Star Wars Galaxies your character, everything you do can stand out from the rest.
The combat system has been revamped completely, there might be less professions now but it is fairly balanced. Combat is fast, and fun paced! With previous versions of the game all you had to do was fire off your most high damaging special over and over. Now it takes skill, as you have to use a variety of tactics, skills, and equipment to prevail. Nothing like seeing a squad of stormtroopers patrolling Theed, Naboo, taking down rebel insurgents.
Player events really make Star Wars Galaxies stand out. Often times they are event coordinator supported, and will feature never before seen elements. From a hunt, to a massive battle between the Rebellion and the Empire, to a series of cleverly done role playing events, the players of SWG organize some of the most fun gatherings I've witnessed.
Certain elements in WoW are done well, and certain elements in SWG are done well. But in the end, SWG still topples it. Besides, I like the sci-fi atmosphere better by far.
ignore the negative reviews and try it yourself.

I think it's important for people to understand that most if not all of the negative posts are from long time players who are mad the game has changed and they are no longer super powerful. I have been on since the original beta but I was never a hardcore gamer. I found this new version of the game to be the most fun. It's more like the movies then ever before and the action and adventure is great.
If you are unsure about the game, ignore these posts. You can try the game yourself for 10 days and decide (just go to their official site to download). Make up your own mind; don't let a lot of bitter vet players decide for you.

I started playing SWG about 1 month after it's release. It was great with so many professions to choose from and the ability to have a different character than any other on the server. Now you are limited to 9 professions which have no diversity at all. I just recently started playing again. It is entertaining and fairly fun. It would be better if the servers were as populated as they once were though. The one constant in this game though is that it is bug ridden. More quests don't work than do and that's definately not a good thing for a game that's been out for 3+ years. They're customer service is non-existant as well. If you're a Star Wars fan I recommend it but if you just want a good, fun MMORPG you probably should look elsewhere.

I've probebly read tons of revews saying how bad the game is or how horrible it has become since NGE, but I say, "At least give it a chance."
Right now i am playing the 10-day trial version of the game and it is fun, granted it would be funner if I had a better computer but thats not the point. If you going to let other people tell you what to do, then why do anything at all. You don't have to try it, but if you consitering the game or even looking at it and your curious about it, why not download the trial version and see if you like it.

Thats why they are posting the bad reviews. Not because the game is bad, which it isnt. Its better. The veterans of swg have never been satisified, Just check any other previouse SWG games on amazon. The veterans love to complain.
This new game is 100% better. Its more exciting, quest driven, and content packed. it seemes like every other day SOE is putting more patches in with updates, fixes, and additiona items for people to have and play with. They are trying to turn this train wreak fo a game around, and I personally think they are doing the right thing!
ANYONE WHO LIKES STAR WARS SHOULD GET THIS GAME!

Alot of people are angry about the rescent changes and I wouldn't put it past some to post here many times just to get back at SOE. However, I have given all the changes a chance and stayed with Star Wars Galaxies for over 2 years. The game is still very entertaining and exciting! Don't listen to all the negeative post here and just try it for yourself. Yes, there are bugs, I have played other online games and they to have bugs. SOE is constantly making changes and correcting bugs that arise. This is by far the best online game I have ever played and believe it will continue to be the best!
I have grew up with Star Wars and don't believe you will ever find another game that brings you as close to living the fantasy as this one!
Look me up in the game if I can help you get started! Kadar in the Ahazi galaxy!

I can't believe the negative reviews for this game, it's quite simply fantastic!
The graphics are stellar, voice work by original Star Wars characters, and once you get out of the new player area (which was very awesome) you are met with an ENORMOUS and rich set of worlds to explore. I've spent countless hours since I've bought the game just exploring all the worlds out there and I cannot believe the level of detail.
While a little light on actual profession development, I was astounded at the level of character personalization (easily on par with games like COV and dramatically exceeding WoW), I was astounded at the sheer volume of rich dungeons scattered around the galaxy.
Furthermore, combat is much more fun that anything I've experienced in other MMOs and I really felt like I was in a Star Wars game the first time I tried to shoot a gungan and he started taking cover and shooting back at me!
The icing on the cake of course is the space section of the game. A complete and rich ground MMO with more features than half the MMOs out there, a Star Wars them AND a complete and fun space based MMO game as well???
Maybe there really is a disgruntled fanbase out there, but the reasons why they are disgruntled don't justify this game's rating. I can't wait to get home and play more. There's just so much to do.
