Geo-Mod...the future?

Having not played this game, I have no true conception of Geo-Mod's capibilities. I know only of what has been shared through Amazon. My concern is this: Is Geo-Mod the future of gaming? This programming to me seems revolutionary as well as technologically superior to anything I've ever heard of. Will we be seeing this, and only this, in the upcoming games of the decade? I sure know I'm purchasing Red Faction, if not for the storyline or gameplay, for the Geo-Mod engine.

Revolution on the F.P.S Horizon!

Being a huge fan of F.P.S, I had to purchase Red Faction. It Is simply wonderful to behold the beauty of the graphics of this game. Lots of time and effort were put into the textures and skins as well as the special effects like fog, shadows, ect. Game controls-H.U.D- was well thought of. Weapons were well thought of look and feel good to the sences.
I've played all the major F.P.S Half-Life-Thief-Deus Ex-Unreal-Gunman-System Shock2-Undying-SiN-Serious Sam-Quake-Yes, I named a few, but it's hard to find a good F.P.S in our field of study- so to speak. This is were all F.P.S are going the best (A.I) I have seen-The best voice action-best lighting-best save feature.
You know I told my wife this is the best and most realistic game I have ever played-of course she had to say yeah your on Mars!!
The only thing-some people may say is that is is sort of short. Tell them no to use the cheat-Codes and explore-you can play for hours and never realize it. Thanks for your time!!

Much Better on Playstation

Sure, the multiplayer is a million times better in the PC version than in the PS2, but like many other games that have made the switch from PC to console, or consols to PC, Red Faction PC has a lot of flaws that the PS2 version doesn't.

First, and most importantly, do not get this game if you have a laptop computer! that is unless you can figure out an easy way to configure the controls. I've been trying all day to get something I am comfortable with, and it just isn't working. I may just have to breakdown and put the game on my family computer instead... and I really didn't want to have to do that.

Second, the Geo Mod is a lot slower than the PS2 Geo Mod, sometimes you have to sit and look at a wall for a second or two before the hole decides to show up.

The final negative I have to groan about is the map generator. I thought I'd be able to make something fairly easily, like I do with TimeSplitters, but I don't understand this mapmaker one bit.
It's confusing, complicated, and not very well documented.

That is about all there is that is really bad about this system, but that first one really bugs me, since the whole reason I bought the game was so that I could take my laptop over to a friend's house and we could hook 5 or 6 computers up and play... but the controls are just too weird.

Now for the good stuff:

More characters! About twice as many characters as in the PS2 version.

More levels. Tons of levels, plus if custom levels if I can ever figure out how to use the map generator.

I say, if you have a desktop computer, or if you don't have a PS2, go ahead and get this game, because it is an excelent First Person Shooter. But if all you have is a laptop, or you don't really plan on doing too much multi-player with more than one other person, stick with the PS2.

great game

I am a big fan of FPS games and have nearly all that are available for the PC. Red Faction has great graphics and fast gameplay. My only complaint is the fact that some of the levels are almost impossible to beat, even at the easy level. Without the cheat codes I would have never made it through the final few missions. Overall I enjoyed the game. I would like to see new mods released for it.

Tierd graphics, boring plot and recycled story line. This aims high and sinks low. The game just blows.

Great game but...

This is a really great game worth all its praise. However, the storyline was a bit shallow. If you were to combine this tech. with Half-Life, you would get one hell-of-a-game!

Close but no cigar

This game is a good fps if you like starship troopers or halo but the controls are very hard at first then they click. The story seems good but is sorta un eventfull(going through 500 tunnels to save some (...) old lady that when you get there is dead) but the online play is DA BOMB the geo mod ius also fun at first then you get tired or all the holes. I like this game and if you like Metal Of Honor and Halo get this game. If not get SWAT3 to cure your fps hunger.

I ran this game on a PC that exceeded all recomendations and I still had to run the game on the lowest resolution to avoid lag. I even downloaded new drivers for my video card just for this game and it didn't help. The game does fine until you fight an opponent with an automatic weapon and then the frames per second (FPS) drops down to below one.

The idea of being able to blow holes in walls and things is a great idea and is the best part of the game, but the execution of that idea leaves you wanting. The engine seems buggy and unstable.

The single player missions force you to give up all your weapons to go undercover, and it leaves you frustrated rather than excited. I haven't played the multiplayer due to a slow internet connection, but with all the lag in single player I can't imagine that it would be worth my time.

In the end, I wanted to like this game, but just couldn't seem to do it. It had some good ideas, but ultimately failed to deliver. Better luck next time THQ.
