I wanted to like this game. I haven't had much fun in the FPS arena since Doom, so I was ready to have some. First, I like the modeled fatigue, the engagement ranges, and the terrain in general. What I didn't like are the figures, they look horrible up close!, I didn't like the radar homing tanks and APC's that zero in on your location after one shot from 400 yards, on the tactical slope, under bushes. Secondly, I couldn't quite figure out what the squad leader was yelling, and who is #2, etc. But the two biggest dissapointments are:
Multiplayer, one of the reasons I bought it, seems to be in a beta form still. So many features don't function, and joining, hosting and starting a game is problematic.
Control Layout, I hate freakin' mouses! and that's pretty much it unless you want to try and monkey about with the bleedin' keyboard. The control set up menu lists joystick, but it doesn't seem to work beyond the hat switch changing views. Geez, would it be too much to include joystick support? That way, I could program the stick/throttle/rudder set up so I wouldn't have to be typing like crazy on the keyboard at the same time I'm swiping around the mouse/trackball/thumbwheel.
Anyway, it does seem to have some depth, but the enemy AI, never fails to notice you, even 200 meters away, low-crawling through dense undergrowth. I give it three, behind the four stars I gave CFS2, that missed for the poor AI and multiplayer options.
Great game, worth every penny...

Well, I am of course and American so I just received my copy less than a couple days ago. My first impression was awe. The games realism is outstanding. It's attention to vehicle, infantry, and overall military subjective matter is fantastic. Commanding an entire squad of troops from commanding a tank to keeping their head down while sneaking into enemy territory is amazingly easy while having options for complexity. The scenery on Everon is great. Having a shootout with the enemy in a dense forest (bullets whizzing by, deflection by the trees) was overwhelming. If your considering purchasing this title, you have no need to think any further... buy it. You won't regret this one.
I have also played online and while it can be a bit frustrating (figuring out who ...you are, who's on your team, where you are if you're lost), it's no more frustrating that it would be in real-life war looking down a scope wondering if it's a enemy troop's head peeking around the corner or your own team's.
OH, and my 4 star rating is due to the documentation. It's not the best, and for a realistic combat-sim I would've liked to have seen more historical data (weapon logistics, how they were utilized in reality, etc.). Beyond this, no complaints!
Its got everything

This is it, the greatest war game in the history of games. It has everything from realistic gameplay to good graphices. Weapons, fellow soldiers and enemies are all realsitic in everyway. Thats not all though it has great multyplayer and has a campaign editor for limitless hours of fun.
Awesome game, but takes some patience

Very good game. Takes some patience, don't play it like it is Quake or Unreal Tournament. It is pretty hard you get killed a lot. I was about to throw this game away because on like the 5th or 6th mission, you are on your own in the forest, and I kept getting killed, then I finally got past that stage, and it made me better, and the game is flowing now. Graphics are really good, not great, but the game is sooo good at making you feel there. I was sweating, and my heart was pounding. Very engrossing. The only problem is the ability to save only once per mission, you can get around that by deleting the save file. (gamespot has this on the hints) Overall, I would recommend this for anyone. Especially with the current events, I like to pretend that the Russians are .... I hear that there is a vietnam mod being worked on, as well as an add on for playing as the russians. BUY THIS GAME

The game is fantastic as for the idea and implementation,
but techically it has two seriuos drawbacks:
1. It crashes on some single missions (blue screen or even reboot sequence starts on it's own).
2. Sound - group leader commands are doubled sometimes, sounds direction may be indictinctive sometimes and there are loud distortions from time to time.
Generally it's quite heavy, but it's fun even not in the largest resolutions.
Reality level is very high. And I mean not the how the houses look, but characters behaviour, how you see the enemy, weapons performance. For instance you have to reload you weapon deliberatly when your magazine is empty, the game doesn't do it for you and you may get stuck in front of enemy pulling your trigger over empty mag if you don't keep in mind you ammo situation.
Highly recommended.

This is an important game for any fan of the first person shoot-'em-up genre. It can keep you up half the night, so be careful. Totally realistic and interesting. Graphics are different, but really cool. I have nothing but good things to say about it except for 2 things:
1. One shot by the enemy and your dead. I guess I'm not used to that, being a fan of Half-Life and Quake where you take as many hits as Jackie Chan an keep on fighting.
2. You can only save the game once per mission, so if you get killed you have to go back and play the whole thing either from where you saved, or from the beginning, and it get's monotonous.
But don't let that get you down. This game rules.
GREAT game! Especialy for action gamers!

I downloaded the first demo for this game and fell in love with it. After completeing the first mission about 50 times in the demo, I baught it and now its all i play, its very challenging and also fun enough to where you dont want to quit even in the toughest parts! Its worth every cent. Its a great steup up from the Tom Clancy Series. Go on and buy it, you'll like it.
One of the Best....

I have all of the Rainbox six games and I thought I would give this one a try. I am running 98SE, 1.4 gig Athlon, 512 DDR, Sound Blaster 5.1 live and Nvidia Mx400 64meg tv out card. I also have cambridge soundworks fps2000 digital sound w/sub. This is one of the best games I have ever played. The graphics are superb. You can actually see and hear the rain (with EAX). Thunder etc.. The game runs better with more of the "goodies" like I mentioned above, but will run on less(of course). I recommend this game to anyone into 1st person shootem up/tactical games. You have the ability to Drive vehicles and fly choppers, command squads etc. If you can think of it you can do it in this game. This game is so much fun(Difficult/Hard, The AI seems to sense your where abouts - I recommend stealth whenever possible) that you may end of running late for work or school when you start playing!

I have always enjoyed playing Rogue Spear, and other close quarter battle sims. I also enjoyed playing the command sims(Close Combat). In Flashpoint, it is like the two were merged together. It is like Close Combat, in the sense that you have the ability to move entire platoons and command vehicles. It is like Rogue Spear(not quite as good),you can fight man to man. It accels in the command mode. The interface may seem overwhelming at first, but once you learn it, you will love it. Flashpoint gives you the ability to give very specific commands, like ordering your men to shoot just one person, or go to an exact point. With Rogue Spear you don't have the ability to give specific commands. The only major area that Flashpoint lacks in is Close-Quarters-Combat. You can only enter certain buildings and your weapons are not geared for CQC. Overall Flashpoint is a good game if you enjoy the Close Combat style gaming.
The best combat simulation game I've ever played

You can have two different feelings about this game:
You like it very very much or you really hate it.
I like it very much, but I can imagine there are a lot of people who don't. The reason why there are so many people who dislike it is the extreme difficulty of the game. One bullet is enough to kill you and one grenade can be enough to kill your whole squad.
The multiplayer possibilities are also fantastic and exciting.
With this game, you are really close to war and I guarantee you don't want to come closer!
