Operation: Flashpoint is a game like no other. Never in my long life as a gamer have I had an experience like I have had with this game.
THe immersion is amazing. Open expances of the three massive islands, combined with incredible individual story lines makes this the most memorable and satisfying game I have ever played. No joke there. Ghost Recon got a 5/5 for gameplay mechanics, realism, replay, and the breathtakining visuals. This gets a 5/5 for story, gameplay, variety, immersion, replay, and the most accurate depiction of men at war since, well I cant even think of something to compare to this.
The flaws are very minor, such as being able to kill with an mp5 from any distance, and the occasionalterrain glitch while flying by in an Abrams, but for what you get, you cannot even notice these little errors.
The story is wonderful. No FMV, instead, just live in-game cutscenes move the story along, and boy does it move. As you follow the character's transitions from a green GI ready to go home, a specialist demolitions and recon expert (not sure if they called him a SEAL or not), or a helicopter or plane pilot making dropoffs and search and destroy missions, everyone is unique, and you can see the development they go through as you control them.
I grew attached as playing as Lt. Armstrong, the 'main' character in the game, and by far the most fun to play as. The vehicle and covert missions are quite enjoyable too, but none match the tenseness and heart pounding battles that you will face as Lt. Armstrong.
There are other very fun games out there, and Im not bashing them at all because Ghost Recon or the Rainbow 6 series are a couple of my favorite real-time wargames ever made. But this, this is in a catagory all to itself, and it gets my absolute highest recommendation.

The game has been very fun and intense to play. The main problem I have is with patches for upgrading the game. I think the problem is with my motherboard. If you use Windows 2000 and have a motherboard with a Via KT133 chipset, make sure you patch your chipset correctly. I cannot install patches because files were damaged during the game installation due to my chipset. Some levels crash during game play because of this problem.
no problems w/ my system

I have read many of the reviews that talk about poor resolution and other graphics problems. I have a P4 1.5 ghz w/256k and a 32mb GC. This by far the best FPS I have ever played! The only fault I see, is the difficulty with some of the vehicles, specifically the tanks, the are very hard to command. As for the aircraft, I have a sidewinder joy-stick that makes stealling a chopper so much fun!!!Will enjoy this game for a long time to come, if your system is fast, this game is a must!!!!!
Great Game

Operation Flashpoint is definitely one of the best games i've played. the only cons (besides the difficulty) is that it's a pain to fly a chopper or a plane with a mouse (though i think there is now joystick support) and the graphics are a bit blocky, but considering the size of the game world, it's not that bad
An engrossing game that gives hours of gameplay

When I look for a PC Game to add to my collection, one of the first criteria is that the game must provide hours of entertainment. Operation Flashpoint does not fail in this respect. The main storyline is well thought out and draws you into the plot. And when I just need a break from the main campaign, I set off on a single-player mission.
The game play is good. The graphics are a bit blocky and I have problems trying to fly helicpoters, but I am confident that as I get used to the interface, these problems will become more less frustrating.
(...) I had no problems installing or playing the game. I have a 700mhz Athlon processor with 384mb of ram and a Stealth S540 video card. In over 30 hours of gameplay, I've only managed to crash the game once (and that was when trying to start a new mission - so I didn't lose anything).
Overall, an excellent game that I plan on enjoying for the next few months.

This game is like going on a blind date. Your friends tell you that she is cute. You talk to her on the phone, and she seems really nice. Then you pick her up, and she's a dog. Shallow, well maybe, but still true. It is a major letdown.
This game was the same for me.
1. Graphics are not up to par with current titles in the same genre.
2. The radio comms are horrible. I can't listen to them for very long before I shut down the game.
3. The voice acting (and scripting) is LAME.
My final verdict. I should have checked out the demo. And as for my last blind date, I should have demanded a photo.
Someday I will learn.

This game has all the ideas of what i want in a wartime fps game. The ability to fight with team mates in tanks, choppers, gunboats, jeeps... but the sad thing is the graphics are horrible; They made a horrible attempt at placing real faces on player models... the result is scotch taped on looking face.
The second thing is the vehicles that would be the best part is far from it. Sure i had a good time when i got the chopper off the ground along with a another player online handleing the guns... but most of the time when you play multiplayer the other team usually trashes all the vehicles and you end up having to run for 10 minutes just to make it to the other base who also has thier vehicles busted and it becomes stupidly distant bases.
Another thing with the vehicles, the slightest touch with a tree, building causes the car to be wrecked. A little too sensetive.
And the worst thing about this game is... GameSpy, trying to get a game going is horrible, joining games waiting for the host to launch the game only to find out 20 minutes later that he isn't even at his/her computer. Also, there is no on-screen compass on the game screen, u have to keep switching to the map which takes up the entire screen.
All-in-all:
Graphics: jaggy even on a g2 and a radeon 64ddr
Gameplay: Fustrating online play
Sounds: sounds were average
Fun Factor: it has it's moments when things go right, but when there is another game out there where you can jump in the action mid game... why wait 20 minutes in a lobby to start a new game that maybe wont last 10 minutes.
Way too Buggy

I was quite excited about Operation Flashpoint after playing the demo. It seemed the most realistic portrayl of warfare yet on the PC HOWEVER, after a failed installation I went to various websites attempting to find a soloution. I read through 30 pages of people expressing problems with the patches, installation, textures and various other features of the game. I am sure that for those of you who can install it, it will be nice however, check out the...to see what the people who have problems are saying. I would not recommend a purchase of this game until you can be certain the bugs are fixed.
THE DEMO IS AWESOME ALONE!!

I was surprised by the inteeligent AI, it is better than half-life. When pinned they will call support to flank you. Also, you can fly and drive many different vehicles, 3 in the demo. In the demo you must ambush a group of Russians (why are they always the bad guy?). Two minutes ago I figured out that there are 3 outcomes (that I know of...) 1. blitz them and its over in 5 minutes 2. attack slowly and beat everyone before moving on (this leads to enemy heavy armor coming and this forces you to take an ill fated helecopter trip.) 3. wait until the armor comes and then do a fighting retreat back to your base. Remember that this is just the DEMO!! I replayed it over and over and i am still having fun with it. There are different classes for enemy and friendly AI alike. If you are injured you can call a medic and if you are pinned down you can hide and call for support. My favorite thing to do is steal a jeep from the enemy drive over a few enemies and then drive 5-10 meters in front of a group of enemies. I swerve the car so I can get out and hide on one side. Then I shoot and throw grenades over the car. It is so much fun! You must also rely on unit cohesion to reach certain objectives. Basically, this will probably be the best FPS and strategy game for a long time, BUY IT!
