This game is good, but not as good as Counter-Strike. The graphics are good, as is the sound. The difficulty is BAD, the enemy is very smart, hidding everywhere! That is what makes the game realistics though. Single player is fun, multiplayer sucks for now, few rooms and poor players await you in cyberspace. All in all, a good but not great game.

If you want an addiction to a video game, this one will do it. I agree that there are some REAL frustrating aspects to the game, most of which have already been mentioned.
The game is a lot of fun and very challenging. If they could have improved a few of the "problems" before the game release I would not have to use so much profane language. Perhaps "they" will develop a patch.
The one save feature is BS. Get used to idea that your squad (team)is really stupid. Watch as they walk into machine gun fire, die and make it impossible for you win.
There were no strategy instructions (just the Field Manual) that came with the game, so some of the episodes are impossible to win. The Gold Upgrade has the Strategy Guide. This will make the game(s) more enjoyable and will give you an idea of what the objective is behind each episode.
Welcome to the the new era in military simulations

WARNING! This game is not intended for pathetic arcade gamers who have not yet developed patience. This game is for the gamers who desire life-like scenarios and are required to think fast on the fly and then execute that thought. Of course it isn't easy and the one save per mission will rub that in, but it will effectively teach you to learn your lessons quick and to be more conservative when deciding upon your course of action.
Like many other games in this genre, most players will walk away with some new knowledge. After playing this game for more than three months, I noticed that some of game's aspects are embedded into my mind. On many missions, whether your are a private or officer, you will find yourself calling out to warn your comrades of inbound UAZ, BMP, T-75, and T-80 attacks. One day while I was watching the war in Afghanistan when I noticed a tank. Within an instant I called T-75. From the tank's silhouette I was able to distinguish a T-75 from T80. I think that speaks a lot for the graphics and the games ability to convey real military units. In sum, Operation Flashpoint has more to offer than any other game in the genre. If you liked Rainbow six and the first two Delta force series than BUY THIS GAME!
Outstanding...but make sure to get the patches

Pros:
Fantastic gameplay
Excellent AI
Very Realistic
Intriguing story
All-around addicting
Cons:
Needs the patches to play decently!
Blocky graphics
Mediocre sound and voice acting
Cheezy music
...but the pros vastly outweigh the cons...
This is a simulation, not an arcade game. It needs to be treated as such. It is very ambituous. It is very, very fun. Highly recommended....this is one of the treasures of 2001 games business.
amazing!

I've been looking for a game like this for a LONG time. Consider it like Delta Force except not ... After reading mixed reviews I finally decidedto buy it and I am glad I did. The magnitude of it is mind boggling and the graphics are incredible. Multiplayer rocks, but the really nice thing is that this is a terrific game for those who yearn to play CS or WWII online but don't have a fast enough connection. If you've been looking for a realistic combat sim that's simple to learn and tough to master then stop reading and BUY THIS GAME! It'll be on my hard drive for awhile! =)
Makes you want to wear a flakjacket when you play it

In the first-person view, this is one of the most engrossing games I have ever played. I have the sense that I am inside the game rather than watching it. You have 360 degree free-range of the entire field of action. I have not yet played the campaign, but the senarios are varied -- play a sniper, a helicopter pilot, a Delta Force operative, a ground troup, tank commander, etc. In all, you also have the option for 3rd-person view.
The AI does not reposition the enemy when a senario is replayed and the enemy often does not spot you quickly. This may well be the result of the "cadet" level I am playing as I learn the game.
The positives of this game far outweigh the negatives. If you are a fan of wargames, you will love this one!!
Great game, but needs work.

Ok, where to start.. I only gave this game 2 stars instead of 5 because it is much like a beta version. The game, although awesome, really pisses me off. Europe has only v1.0 and v1.1 so good luck trying to play with anyone from over there. I havent played the game that much other than the multiplayer aspect of it. I guess that I was looking for a WWII online type of game, and got it to some extent. The multiplayer is poor, but it works sometimes. I have a P3 1ghz, 256 ram and a 2mbit cable connection. The game lags for me when in any vechile other than a small car. If they keep working on this game, and give us a couple of patches..I think that this game will be worthy of 5 Stars.

Man, despite some of the complaints of control issues there has'nt been any game that has been as emersive in any shape or form.
Right off the bat you go into boot camp with a squad of npc's. Than your shipped off to war. The gun fights are dizzying you can hear the bullets flying all around you and you squad members are dropping like flies everywhere!
From the rumble of tanks that you can drive or have driven over you to the rocket fire comming over head from supporting helicopters the feel is WAR.
My favorite attribute of the game is the freedom to go anywhere in the 100sq km+ maps and do anything! Sure there are mission objectives that must be completed but why not go over to the next enemy occupied town take out all the enemy personel and steal thier helicopter? or thier tanks? or even both?? You can fly and drive anything!!! Or just blow it all up and go by foot. The choice is yours!!! In this Game War Rules!!!!
Operation Flashpoint delivers the goods!

Operation Flashpoint is by far the best and most realistic combat sim out there. It is more realistic than Ghost Recon or any of its predicessors but does lack one thing that those games have...exceptional graphics. Operation Flashpoint lacks alot in the graphics area as well as in gameplay speed due to the small install. However, I believe it is worth buying and you really do feel as if you are a marine in action. Just can't wait for Operation Flashpoint 2.
Overblown

I wanted to like this game. I haven't had much fun in the FPS arena since Doom, so I was ready to have some. First, I like the modeled fatigue, the engagement ranges, and the terrain in general. What I didn't like are the figures, they look horrible up close!, I didn't like the radar homing tanks and APC's that zero in on your location after one shot from 400 yards, on the tactical slope, under bushes. Secondly, I couldn't quite figure out what the squad leader was yelling, and who is #2, etc. But the two biggest dissapointments are:
Multiplayer, one of the reasons I bought it, seems to be in a beta form still. So many features don't function, and joining, hosting and starting a game is problematic.
Control Layout, I hate freakin' mouses! and that's pretty much it unless you want to try and monkey about with the bleedin' keyboard. The control set up menu lists joystick, but it doesn't seem to work beyond the hat switch changing views. Geez, would it be too much to include joystick support? That way, I could program the stick/throttle/rudder set up so I wouldn't have to be typing like crazy on the keyboard at the same time I'm swiping around the mouse/trackball/thumbwheel.
Anyway, it does seem to have some depth, but the enemy AI, never fails to notice you, even 200 meters away, low-crawling through dense undergrowth. I give it three, behind the four stars I gave CFS2, that missed for the poor AI and multiplayer options.
