I ordered Flashpoint as sort of an afterthought in a cyber cafe while on vacation. When I got home and fired it up I was initially really irritated. Talk about a sensitive program to install! I had to shut down everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, to get a stable installation. Once it did fire up, however, I was STUNNED! The first several missions where you are a common grunt trying to keep up were amazing! Being an infantry machinegunner in the Corps I just couldn't get enough of the M16 and M60 sight views! Picking off barely discernable enemy infantry at 200 to 300 yds was so authentic! The feeling of confusion and info overload were right on the money! Then they put me in a tank... why did they have to ruin it? The controls are the most un-intuitive that I have ever seen! What a nightmare! Trust me, the game is worth the bucks just for the infantry parts, but I have a feeling that Ghost Recon will do much better. Bottom line- worth the ducks, but irritating after being so good.

This game is perfect in every respect. Anyone who says it stumbles in vehicle gameplay is completely wrong. I have enjoyed this game and its playability is enhanced by the editor and the other customizability features.

The demo is one great demo. This game is phenominal. It comes real close to actually fighting in battle. You have amazing options and can do whatever you want. You can take the weapons of the people that you kill. You could also take vehicles and drive them around. This is one great game.
Open-ended game design!

Oh, this is a great game! The game it reminds me of most is Delta Force: Land Warrior, only with a much better A.I. and the ability to drive vehicles in your missions. My favorite part of Operation Flashpoint though has to be the great A.I. I spent four hours trying to get past the first mission, and never got frustrated doing so. You can get killed easily by being shot only once or twice, which means you will not be running and gunning. You will have to sneak and snipe, lying prone and crawling a lot through bushes and against buildings. You will use all cover available, both man-made and natural. Your enemies are also easy to kill, when you can find them. They are pretty sneaky too and will drop for cover when they spot you. Every time I got killed, I started over and adjusted my plans and tried the mission from a different angle. This game will make you think and be very careful. The tension is unbelievable! And knowing how mortal you are will make you jump out of your skin every time you hear a gunshot. Especially if it's been quiet for a while.
I gave this game five stars, even though it's not perfect, because it has achieved a lot that other five-star games have not been able to. It's the overall sense of being there that got me. The developers used their own custom engine for this, which is both good and bad. On the good side, it renders vast distances and hills like other engines could not, and, being a 'different' engine means it's unpredictable. After playing tons of Quake and Unreal-based games, a person knows the limitations of those engines and what to expect from them. It's nice playing something that feels new, even though it doesn't really look new. The graphics, while good, look sort of dated and the control is just shy of being perfect, but you have to admire the developers for not going the easy road and just licensing someone else's engine. They had specific goals when they built this game, and you can tell they did their damndest to achieve these goals. And in my opinion, they were successful.
I haven't had this much fun playing a game in a long time. Oh, and for reference, I'm running it on a two-year-old Pentium II 450 with 256 megs ram, and an NVidia TNT 1 video card with 16 megs video memory, and it runs pretty smooth at 800 x 600 resolution. The video options and resolution can be adjusted up or down to suit just about anybody though. So if you are tired of frag-fests and running and gunning and if you want a battle experience that feels real, Operation Flashpoint is the only way to go.
Run and buy the game now

This is a great game. It is realistic and not stupid like those james bond games you buy for playstation 2 were you point the crosshair at the person and their dead. In this you cant stand on a hill and snipe the whole base (like the childish delta force games), cause if the enemy sees you you either run or get cover. (one shot anywere in the head or torso and your dead, two shots in the limbs and your down.) Some [person] that formerly reviewed this game said that the missions were stupid cause you had to rendavous with other tanks and stuff, but hes wrong.
There is a few setbacks:
- You play a campain game as a guy named David Armstrong, and play as if you were him, wich is great, but then once you beat that you all the sudden are this guy named Robert Hammer who shleps around commanding tanks,(The all veicle missions arnt that fun.
- If you dont have a nice graphics card with pentium4 and at least a 2.0 processer, it doesnt work well, but you can get it for X Box this winter so dont worry

In this review i am going to focus more on how the game is not what i personally think so then you can make up your own mind if you want to get it. And in this game you can choose the first person view(delta force, r6) or the third person view(syphon filter, max payne) Quick note: if your looking for the best and most realistic fps(first person shooter) get this if you wanna make up your mind. read on... First the SINGLE PLAYER now thats the best part of this game. YOu start just like in real life and are in atraining camp, you soon go into action and you dont just start in action but you make preperations, pick up troops and drive a jeep to your squad where you take a truck into the mission zone. All that time you are a charectorandd have 100% controll. If you run to much you slow down and breath harder,if you get shot in the leg you walk slower, if you die you dont respawn thats it. The Action in cool and you depend on your squad because easy difficulty in this is like Elite in rouge spear you MUST depend on your squad. You can take weapons off enemies and take control of 100% of the veacles and when you do dont go off to far on a jagged road cause you may get a flat! The story is cool and you can surrender or rin of hide and change the way that the game goes and plays. Now for the MULTIPLAYER this is cool and youcan pilot planes, be in a boat of whatever there is in the army today-you can do that too. you neeed the following people to drive a tank(well ou dsont NEED them but this is the max)(as in real life):1.Gunner-Has complete control of the gun and reloads ect 2.C0ommander-Looks around and looks for enimies in the area to target then rports to gunner 3.Driver- Drives dugh! SO those are the MUST HAVES for a tankthere are like 30 playable veacles even civilian tractors. You can have a group of pilots, tank and infantry alll working toget her. There are the following "modes": Deathmatch 2 teams raging war(inclued Capture the flag), Co-op: a team workibg together on a mission. Overall Multiplayer is fun. Then theres the esay to use map editor. Similar to that of starcraft easyto use and you can place as much units as you want. The graphics in this game are OK and theres not to many glitches(walk on water ect)but that only happens once a while. The graphics are like max payne and vice acting is ok. This is a cool little game. I recommend you get it. This is one of(goldeneye)the best fps i have ever played.

Im..Im just proud i even played it. OF:CWC is the most realistic team based game there is. This is what started me on the genre.... and im glad it did! There is just soo much effort put into this game that you forget that you are in your house but... im not saying you will feel you're in the game because thats chessy but that its just you and the computer in a totally black room. Now.... this is a extremly team game because your commander is right when he says noone wants to be a hero.. i learned this myself... you need your team to stay alive... everybody has their own job and its just WOW... listen get this game... then get expansion(s)... then ghost recon...then that expansion(s)...then get battle field 1942 and then those expansion(s).... LISTEN, just get the game and thats a order SOLDIER!
Great game, if flawed

This game is exactly what you dreamed of having when you REALLY wanted to play soldier. Having actually served in a European army let me tell you: this is as real as it gets without having to pick up the brass, i.e. all the fun parts without any of the boring stuff (unless you count the mediocre voices in the game). I don't own the game, my company laptop only has 64 RAM which is too slow, but I have played this game for hours & hours at friends, in internet cafés, frankly anywhere I could get my hands on it. I have also checked out the updates and let me tell you, it just gets better. The StG-77 (Steyer-AUG) performs exactly like it really does, tanks (mostly) move like they really do, and you will sweat real bullets when the lead starts flying.
Most importantly, this games WIPES OUT Ghost Recon & the rest of the Big Business Boys. It's hot quality from a small company in a small ex-Warsaw Pact country that put a lot of love and care and BRAINS into it, which is better then Tom Clancy's scam artist can produce for one. I envy nothing more then those who can play the game in multiplayer mode with large set teams and good equipment. BUY IT
