This is a fun summer game or anytime of the year game really. I bought this game two yrs ago and I must say it still is my favorite fps game. Ofcourse Medal of Honor series is my favorite aswell. There's not much to add to what past reviewers have already said about this amazing game. It's just flat out a good solid game.

Addicting!

Help! I can't stop playing this game. Perhaps if I had experienced any of the technical difficulties described in other reviews I would be on the road to recovery,,,BUT NO...I had to find a game that keeps me up all night because I can't put it down. If you have a preference for single player (haven't tried mult-player, not my thing) first person shooters and an addictive nature, this game may lead you to ruin. It certainly measures up to all of my personal favorites like Wolfenstein, Postal, and Red Faction.

One of the better ones...

This is a very FUN game. Big huge colorfull map. People who rate this 1 or 2 or morons that can't get the game to play. Upgrade your vid card. Unload some of that porn and free up some hard drive space. This game rocks!

Better on PC than on Xbox 360- Still the Best There Is!

This game plays better on my 2.3ghz, 1g, Radeon 9550 graphics card. This game is bad-2-the-bone. Graphics are still better than anything including call of duty 4 on my xbox 360. The game play is addictive. In fact after playing cod4 on my 360 I still have time for a couple minutes of Far Cry. Nothing beats the precision of using a mouse. I also have Far Cry "Instincts" and "Predator" for 360 but its no comparison. My 5 year old PC with the amped up Graphics card and and 7 year old 17" LCD is better.

Good entrtainment hours of fun but can get confusing at times even when clues are provided, cheat sheet is needed for this game in order to finish to the end of the chapters but overall good fun, I would not recommend this to anyone that is teenage or young adult

WARNING - will install starforce malware on your computer

the game is fun and the price is great. but installing drivers on the users computer is poor judgement by ubisoft. i cannot return it as it has been opened. there is nothing in the EULA to warn of this. this DRM-crudware is all the reason i need to never purchase from ubisoft again. which is sad, because the game itself is alright. these sort of practices should not be tolerated by consumers. be upfront with your consumers ubisoft!

Not bad, not bad at all

Just like with Doom 3 and to some extent Half Life 2, you should upgrade to good graphics card before playing this - (Geforce 6600GT or better).

2004 belonged to Half Life 2 and Doom 3. Or so it was until Far Cry hit the scene from out of nowhere. These three game defined the year FPSwise. I think Doom 3 was the better game with Far Cry and Half Life 2 splitting second place.

Pros.
- The graphics, most of the time, are great.
- The sniper rifle. The zoom, the satisfaction of taking out an enemiy from 300-400 feet leaving the chap next to him none the wiser
- The intensity when there are bad guys nearby, but you cant see them
- Immersive gameplay
- Fantastic AI

Cons
- The game has been called non-linear. Its not. Games like Boiling Point, Gothic 2 (best game ever) and Morrowind, are. Far Cry tries to give the impression og being non-linear, but combat helicopters will take you out if you try to wander off to far, impassable chasms and steep hills and mountains limit you and force you back on the "right route". The non-linearity refers to the numerous way of approaching the enemy. This is not a big deal though.
- The enemies have incredible eyesight and hearing. Crouching in a shrub 200 feet away from a bad guy still makes him go: whos there? and then firing upon you.
- The though guy image of protagonist and the pretty girlie he is trying to rescue, is a bit American action B-movieesque. Luckily this happens only in the cut scenes.

To summarize:
Great game. Buy.

This is a pretty game. However, it is comparable to a Chopped sirloin on sourdough with sesame and pomme frites - in other words, a fancy version of a Happy Meal (hamburger and fries). It is an elegant effort but nothing new. The AI is standard. Any game that I must repeatedly re-play after each death until I have mastered the play sequence isn't interesting. It is repetitive. It is repetitive.it was advertised as groundbreaking or somthing. i disagree wholehartedly. it is playing the level untill you know where every single bad-guy is, and then taking them out with inaccurate wepons and constant reloading before they shoot you back. not fun at all. buy battlefield vietnam instead

The first great FPS of '04...

This will be an amazing game if the demo available on the internet is any indication. The new engine that CryTek has developed will certainly rival the Source engine of Valve's Half-Life 2 and any other for that matter. It is capable of amazingly detailed and colorful graphics and advanced physics and AI that will knock your socks off. And PLEASE, if you do anything, don't listen to the below reviewer who bad-mouth NVidia's cards or the one that says the game "runs like a dog" on his ultra-powerful machine. I mean, I have a NVidia GeForce 4 128Mb card, a 1.7GHz CPU, 512Mb Ram, and the game runs so well that I have no complaints whatsoever. Sure, I don't run it on the highest resolution, but on 800x600 it runs like a dream and is the most fun I have had with a demo. If you are a fan of First Person Shooters, do yourself the favor of investing in this title. Download the demo first, if you like, and see how it runs on your machine if you doubt my review. Also keep in mind that as development proceeds and the release date draws nearer, the game is constantly being optimized to run smoother no matter what sort of machine you have. To sum this up, this title will set the new high watermark for FPS that the rest(Doom3,HL2, and STALKER, in particular) will have to try to best. Its also great if you want a vacation sim that surrounds and completely immerses you in the ambient splendor of the tropics--its beautiful enough to just walk around the island and explore the jungle and wander the beaches, observing ambient wildlife like parrots, seagulls, various tropical fish, wild pigs, etc--but provides you with a great deal of adventure as well. I am a fan of both and will most definitely be getting this game upon its release.
